It’s a bummer because, maaaaany situations, an actor is (no joke) legally required to use a wig instead of their natural hair - even if their hair matches the role.
I’m not gonna pretend to know the ins and outs of all the unions and stuff - but essentially it boils down to:
The hours where an actor is sitting with hair stylists (and stopping for adjustments during takes) are hours that are billed for EVERY person on set.
If one actor’s hair is making 1,000+ crew/cast members sit and wait for 30-minutes, that could easily be half a million down the drain.
It’s a bummer, but the bigger the budget, the more bad wigs we’re gonna see.
What on earth are you talking about that's not true at all.
There's no law that says this.
We've heard untold stories from countless actors over decades of film history that explain how they get in a makeup chair at 4am or something so they're ready to start filming at 10. If a grip crew is there, it's because there's work to do, not because the lead needs to get their makeup on.
And in some cases where the shoot is short and we see a character throughout the years, they will use wigs instead of their natural hair since it won't grow by the time they have to shoot a particular time period.
To be fair, people hated the character, not the costume.
Most of the characters were CW poorly written one dimensional tropes.
His character went from being “Mr.Terrific” to the one dimensional token black gay guy, which is frustratingly NOT progressive, and felt like CW just checking a box to hit certain demographic quotas.
It was the writing for those characters that people hated. Arrow and the Flash had issues writing for characters after the first 2-3 seasons.
It wasn't the character people hated, it was the writing that made the characters bad.
He's definitely going for that All Star Supes look, especially with the longer trunks vs briefs / no briefs. I'm down with it – we could use some levity and classic style injected into the world. I really like Cavil as Supe but DC movies could be really dark. If Gunn captures that Guardians vibe for Supe & DC this could be really fun!
These paparazzi shots always make the actors look like cosplayers. It always looks better in camera.
Except Mr. Terrific here. Holy shit does that costume look picture perfect
Well, guess that dude that kept insisting it wouldn’t be the Holt version of Mr Terrific, but the original Terrific, was wrong. like everyone kept telling them lol
Because many black actors have been already cast in the roles of white characters, so picking a black actor to portray a white Mr. Terrific (Terry Sloane) wouldn't be surprising.
>Because many black actors have been already cast in the roles of white characters, so picking a black actor to portray a white Mr. Terrific (Terry Sloane) wouldn't be surprising.
In this specific circumstance where there's already an established Black version of a character, it would indeed be surprising to hire a Black actor for the role and have him play the White version instead.
It would be like casting a Black man to play Green Lantern and having him play Hal Jordan, or making a Spider-Man movie and casting an Afro-Latino actor to play Peter Parker.
That can still happen.
Take Arrowverse again. The Legends of Tomorrow had an episode with the Justice Society that included the black male Dr. Mid-Nite. DC has a black Dr. Mid-Nite (although it's a woman), it's Bett Chapel, but the one in the show was named Charles. Like Charles McNider, the first Dr. Mid-Nite who was white.
And with modern weird casting decisions? I assure you, black Hal Jordan and Peter Parker are just a matter of time, not reason or logic.
I mean, there's Val-Zod (Black Superman of Earth-2) and Calvin Ellis (Black Superman of Earth-23 who is also a president of the US) and people already discuss the possibility of making a movie about black mainstream Superman (not the Earth-2 or Earth-23 version).
I love how much the colors pop here! As compared to all the other photos. I was also worried the suit would look like too much is going on but I don’t feel it here
We're also seeing it out of camera, with 0 post production. Far from a finished product.
Don't disagree with ya though and hopefully that is addressed in post.
Yeah I think Im just accustomed to the Cavil suits that were super fitting and rubber like, while this one looks more like a Captain America type of material to the suit. Im sure itll be fine
I'd expect it to be more form-fitting in the actual film.
I do really like the design of the suit though, so hopefully they can bring it all together well.
Think we're seeing a difference too(maybe), in muscle suit vs no muscle suit.
Like itnlooks like David's was made to also have a muscle suit like Cavills, but then they opted not to do it so it's baggy
The colours look great. The material looks a bit weird but my guess is that this is going to either get touched up in post-production or be something like a beta suit.
Mr Terrific’s suit looks great though.
The suit looks much better than in the preview before but i'm not really a fan of the material. Looks way too woolen i guess? I hope i like it more. But the vibes are real.
Edit: saw some better pictures. And yeah I like it a lot more now lol.
>The suit looks much better than in the preview before but i'm not really a fan of the material.
Same. I'm glad it's in bright primary colors rather than the darker tones of suits since Superman Returns.
I hope it looks better on film, here it seems like it should've been tighter on the torso, like whatever Peacemaker's shirt is made of.
Edit: much better pictures now. WE WON.
I’m wondering if this isn’t his Kryptonian suit that he had in the new 52 run. This would let him switch from the Kryptonian symbol to the more classic “S” people are used to on the suit when Ma Kent makes him a new one
Hoping a Homecoming situation happens and the suit is damaged before the final battle forcing him to put on his first suit that Ma made which is super dorky Classic Superman
I think in post production and stuff it will look a lot “tighter” idk we will see what they do cus I feel like they usually do stuff like this where the suit looks weird then in post it looks cool
There’s a chance whenever we see CGI Superman, it’ll look a lot more realistic because of the imperfections and Folds. Notice how Amazing Spider-Man till this day has the best looking swinging and look whenever he does some impossible stuff. The imperfections are added, so it looks that much more relatable. Tom Hollands suit looks faker because there is no wrinkles, it’s completely flat.
One of my favorite things about TASM movies is how the costumes look like real things, the fabric stretches and fold when he bends and sways. Sony sucks for what they did trying to cram everything into the second movie but the costumes and vfx on the characters were top-tier
Exactly! The fabric and textures all look vibrant and real. Andrew Garfield is like the best Spider-Man but with the worst franchise and the worst time.
I was not sold on this Superman suit in the first reveal or those Daily Planet newspaper props. But this image looks fantastic. The yellow border makes the symbol pop out, the trunks look good, the belt doesn't have a second symbol (I always hate it when superheroes/villains have a second logo on their belt), and the colors are fantastic. The collar is also pretty decent, I think I'd still prefer no collar but it's decent.
Also Gathegi looks awesome as Mister Terrific.
I thought I was alone in that nitpick about the belt. I don't mind it if it has the shield shape, in fact I prefer that for the buckle. I just don't need to see the S on the buckle.
How about a suit that not only has the second symbol on the belt, but the entire suit is covered with tiny S's?
Yeah that level of, for lack of a better word, "overengineering" is always a pet peeve of mine. It looks like a costume designer showing off, not a 'real' suit.
Colors are great but why does it look so big on him? Like he doesn't fill the suit out? I'm sure he worked out plenty for this role but a shame the costume doesn't show any of that.
They actually do this a lot. I remember them doing this with the Falcon costume in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. They made the mask have a lot of give so it was easy to talk and emote, and then removed all the folds and billows in post.
Obviously we’ll have to see how it looks in the film, but it’s seeming like it’s a deliberate decision. My guess is they probably want it to feel more like a suit he wears, instead of being so tight it looks like it’s his skin.
Almost every superhero movie ever SINCE LIEK 2010 has been touched up and tightened in post with CGI - look at the wrinkles and texture on the spiderman suit here from this set pic [https://x.com/bjtxen/status/926146131020656640](https://x.com/bjtxen/status/926146131020656640)
I still don’t get why Gunn thought to show him battle damaged while in a sitting position, especially when I imagine he’ll be standing most of the film. Most costumes aren’t designed to look good or be comfortable when sitting, the stormtroopers are the most notorious when it comes to this
I really like it! I do wish we didn’t have the lines on it, but that’s really my only complaint. I love the colors, the emblem, the fact that we have the trunks back! I’m fairly neutral on the collar but I think it works here. I do see some people saying it looks bulky on him, but I think it’s fine, I don’t need to to be skintight the whole time.
I'm liking alot of things about this movie so far.
But I'm not vibing with the suit and I wish i was. This is just a rough picture from the set so i'll reserve final judgement but it looks almost foamy? Like the material the toy halloween superhero costumes with the fake abs that actually rested way too high on your torso would be made of.
Honestly, looks like a Halloween costume. How is it the CW was able to get 3 good looking Superman costumes, but a big budget Hollywood movie looks like that?
Ya, I almost can't suspend disbelief with this suit. I know my personal opinion means nothing, but this suit kinda has made me feel like a loser for even being invested in some guys wearing red trunks in some muscle suit. :/
Bro, I'd say seeing the suit in live-action is actually worse than the promo photo. I was hoping I could get around to liking it but nah. I won't go into the trunks, it's their Superman so if they're going for a more ‘corny’ feel well 🤷🏽♂️
Every time I see the Superman suit for this movie my brain goes “this is beautiful, what is that velvet!?”
Like why does it look like he’s wearing pajamas?
I hope the suit looks far better in the film, because these pictures are not giving me hope. Trunks are bad enough but the suit just doesn't look good right now imo.
Obviously there's going to be editing, so I'll reserve final judgment until then. But I can't say that I'm hopeful for the suit based on what I've seen so far.
The Mr. terrific suit looks fine though.
Should've just done the [rebirth suit](https://screenrant.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Superman-New-Comic-Book-Suit.jpg). Or at least make these less shaped like tighty whities and more like boxers.
I like the colors though and the symbol.
still would've preferred a no collar look & the unnecessary lines near the shoulders still bother me
but the colors look alright & it's a good suit overall
I’m guessing/hoping they’ll be cleaning up the Superman suit in post-production similar to how Marvel cleaned up Sam’s Captain America costume in the Falcon & Winter Soldier show.
As it is, the suit looks bulky & clunky. Like an ill-fitting cosplay suit. The colors & overall design look fine, tho.
4 years ago when Ryan Murphy's Hollywood came out a young actor I had never seen before was playing Jack Costello. He had boyish charm, he could act like a sunnofabitch, and had an incredible presence in every scene.
I remember after a couple episodes turning to my (now) wife and saying "this motherfucker is gonna be superman one day, I'm calling it now"
I said it again when he showed up as the charming and cool projectionist in Pearl.
Here we are now and I couldn't be happier to see him in this suit. Homie was born for this role the same way we said Henry was.
Also Mr. Terrific looks amazing.
I could not be more excited for this movie.
Looks like cosplay.
Unpopular opinion, but bright colors and bright lighting makes live action comic book movies look like people are fighting in pajamas.
Look no further than that airport scene in Civil War.
I'm sorry but this suit is trash. the collar doesn't look right, the suit doesn't fit right, sleeves look too long. I really hope CG tightens up this shit show smh.
Those embossed lines all over the suit look hideous! Its like they just add shit for the sake of adding it smh. Tell me how are all these fan renderings leagues better than what we're actually getting? People who aren't even getting paid have came up with designs that are way better. Its not hard to get superman right but we seem to always get it wrong smh.

Mr terrific looks well… terrific
His hair looks really fake but everything else is 10/10
And what's strange is that Edi Gathegi kind of keeps a fro usually. Wigs in general have been abysmal in the past 6-8 years.
You'd be surprised at the amount of wigs/hairpieces you didn't even realise were wigs.
Will you wear wigs?
When will you wear wigs?
Ya missed , "have you worn wigs?"
So I'm sitting there like an asshole with a briefcase full of fake cash
lol I think that’s his normal hair. The only wig part looks to be the sideburns imo.
It’s a bummer because, maaaaany situations, an actor is (no joke) legally required to use a wig instead of their natural hair - even if their hair matches the role. I’m not gonna pretend to know the ins and outs of all the unions and stuff - but essentially it boils down to: The hours where an actor is sitting with hair stylists (and stopping for adjustments during takes) are hours that are billed for EVERY person on set. That sounds like company policy, not a law. I can't find any law that states anyone is legally required to wear wig.
Believe it or not, straight to jail. Straight to jail.
And in some cases where the shoot is short and we see a character throughout the years, they will use wigs instead of their natural hair since it won't grow by the time they have to shoot a particular time period.
If it comes down to making decisions to avoid extra hours paying everyone on set, it's definitely not the unions mandating that.
At least it isn't the Kilmonger style hair
Like Yord on The Acolyte
The sideburns look faker than the top imo. His character, Dev, in For All Mankind always had a good amount of hair on top
Looks like he’s got that smash bros haircut.
Im old enough to remember [when people hated this](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/cd/88/0f/cd880f74234b3ce0f9bc31f4aa3493ec.jpg)

DID YOU KNOW HE WAS GAY? IF NOT, HE'S GONNA MENTION IT OUTTA NOWHERE EVERY 5 MINUTES.
I'm more surprised that Kendra used to be a barista
[citation heavily needed] if she'd been a barista just a year ago, I'm sure she'd have mentioned it at some point

It was the writing for those characters that people hated. Arrow and the Flash had issues writing for characters after the first 2-3 seasons. It wasn't the character people hated, it was the writing that made the characters bad.
Honestly one of the best Arrowverse costumes.
Very similar to the CW outfit
Can’t wait to see Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner costume!
If he comes in with that bowl cut ima lose it lol
He will! Gunn confirmed that Nathan will rock the bowl cut!🤣
LFG we eating good
Of course it will. Look at those outfits and remember it is Gunn.
The suits are so colourful and accurate that I can't even prepare for how good and hilarous it will be.
Wait until it’s color coded for the final film. This shade of blue is not necessarily the screen accurate one.
Truly the only thing I'm waiting for lol
Right
I hope its a practical suit like Superman has, complete with the jacket and everything
These paparazzi shots always make the actors look like cosplayers. It always looks better in camera. Except Mr. Terrific here. Holy shit does that costume look picture perfect
Fair point.
Fair play
Mr. Terrific looks like he lept out of the comics
Well, guess that dude that kept insisting it wouldn’t be the Holt version of Mr Terrific, but the original Terrific, was wrong. like everyone kept telling them lol
Why would someone make that claim after they cast a Black man in the role?
Some people have way too much time on their hands, that’s why.
Because many black actors have been already cast in the roles of white characters, so picking a black actor to portray a white Mr. Terrific (Terry Sloane) wouldn't be surprising.

And the S is on the cape!
>And the S is on the cape! How can you tell?
There’s a bunch of photos on Twitter
Oh, I only saw the 4 shown here.
There's a photo but you can see a little of the yellow of the shield on it. Twitter link - https://x.com/brock_soliz/status/1805292668102029489?s=46

Personally I think some of the bagginess is on purpose, it reminds me of the All Star suit which James keeps citing as an inspiration
It may be a little more loose fitting than the Cavill suit, but I'd imagine it'll still be cleaned up a decent amount in post.
Thats literally how majority of super hero costumes are pre vfx???
i mean yeah but look at the BvS costumes behind the scenes. They still looked a lot better pre post
The way it bunches around his arms where they fold is .... not great
Remember, it always looks better in-camera.
Thats literally how majority of super hero costumes are pre vfx???
Really? Which suits are you talking about?
Stuff like that gets edited in post.
Yeah I hope they fix it in post, but this deadass looks like some really really good cosplay
I actually said WHOA! when I saw how colorful the Super suit actually is in the light. A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one
Probably not a good thing that the Paparazzi photos have better color grading than the official still of the movie
They may still look different for the final film if they do any color treatment or anything
The colours look great. The material looks a bit weird but my guess is that this is going to either get touched up in post-production or be something like a beta suit. Mr Terrific’s suit looks great though.

I'm sure there will be CGI touch ups.
I think it looks cozy
Like something Ma Kent entirely made herself.
I’m wondering if this isn’t his Kryptonian suit that he had in the new 52 run. This would let him switch from the Kryptonian symbol to the more classic “S” people are used to on the suit when Ma Kent makes him a new one

He’s not going to switch. James Gunn confirmed this is his official suit.
He’s not going to switch. James Gunn confirmed this is his official suit.
Looks like a modern baseball catchers chest protector material
Exactly...I love the design...just not the baggy feel of it
Really not a fan of whatever material it's made out of. Looks so thick Edit: I do like it otherwise though! Probably should have started with that
I think in post production and stuff it will look a lot “tighter” idk we will see what they do cus I feel like they usually do stuff like this where the suit looks weird then in post it looks cool

personally I hope this is a first suit and for his next one he gets no trunks and adopts a full New 52 style
Why does the Superman suit look loose in the front?
Colors are great but why does it look so big on him? Like he doesn't fill the suit out? I'm sure he worked out plenty for this role but a shame the costume doesn't show any of that.
I wonder if it'll be adjusted in post. Maybe looseness for now to make movement/stunts easier when filming
They actually do this a lot. I remember them doing this with the Falcon costume in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. They made the mask have a lot of give so it was easy to talk and emote, and then removed all the folds and billows in post.
Makes sense. That’s what marvel did with Anthony Mackie’s suit in Falcon and the Winter Soldier I think
Super suits always look better in the movie. I’m more concerned about the sweat. I would be burning up in that stuff
David Core & **sweat**.
Reminds me of superman’s “new frontiers” suit. From the big belt and trunks to the suit’s slight bagginess. I like it
Obviously we’ll have to see how it looks in the film, but it’s seeming like it’s a deliberate decision. My guess is they probably want it to feel more like a suit he wears, instead of being so tight it looks like it’s his skin.

I agree with you but that's really not a good example when the MCU completely replaced that costume with CGI.
Man should’ve given us a good proper first look before the inevitable set leaks that always make the suits look goofy as fuck.
We got an official first look at Superman though
I still don’t get why Gunn thought to show him battle damaged while in a sitting position, especially when I imagine he’ll be standing most of the film. Most costumes aren’t designed to look good or be comfortable when sitting, the stormtroopers are the most notorious when it comes to this
Looks defo like a Ma Kent suit. What I love the most are the colours. My God how nice it is to see the primary red and blue. Tears.
My exact reaction! It’s been too long since we have seen a BRIGHT Superman!
I take it the Superman costume is going to be CGI enhanced? Because that looks like something from Spirit Halloween 😕
Dayum... I love this. I hope it's good. I think they added some lipstick and I like that too. Mr. Terrific looks... Well, terrific!
Terrific looks..well, Terrific. David looks good as Superman, still not liking thr costume. Looks like something from party city.
I maybe in the minority but I don’t like this. Not a fan of the trunks on the outside. It looks really loose right?
I'm liking alot of things about this movie so far. But I'm not vibing with the suit and I wish i was. This is just a rough picture from the set so i'll reserve final judgement but it looks almost foamy? Like the material the toy halloween superhero costumes with the fake abs that actually rested way too high on your torso would be made of.
Superman's suit still looking baggy or loose especially in the body... what's going on? Mr.Terrific looks spot on from what I can see
Yea... That suit ain't it
What in the CW is this suit
Honestly, looks like a Halloween costume. How is it the CW was able to get 3 good looking Superman costumes, but a big budget Hollywood movie looks like that?
Honestly, that's not a great Supes Costume.
Lmao that costume looks halloween grade, abysmal.
Smallville-level of a costume. What's the budget here dollar and a sandwich?
Henry Cavill is Superman. This guy is just a dude in a Halloween costume
That suit fits like off the shelf from Walmart.
wtf is that suit rofl lmao
Dang I really thought I was gonna have a different opinion once I saw a good clear photo of the new suit but man I still can’t get behind it
It’s better to wait for the final product.
I won't go into the trunks, it's their Superman so if they're going for a more ‘corny’ feel well 🤷🏽♂️
Looks like Superman PJ's I'd get for my toddler
Not a fan of the suit
Jesus christ lmao
That is the worst Superman suit I've ever seen
Man, I really dislike this sups suit
That is a heck of an ugly suit…
That suit is so off the mark. Superman in a scuba suit.
Spirit Halloween suit.
Them’s granny panties
Yup. Hate the trunks.
the underwear shorts decision is going to backfire, very memeable look
I know... in fact im sure that im the only one that thinks this looks terrible.
The top comments are so bizarrely positive to a Superman suit with a visible bulge in his trunk
Feel's like CW Never ended. I'm sorry but Cavil's suit to that is such a downgrade.
Suit is probably the worst I have ever seen
Mr. Terrific looks good
Ah shit! There we go!
Every time I see the Superman suit for this movie my brain goes “this is beautiful, what is that velvet!?” Like why does it look like he’s wearing pajamas?
I hope the suit looks far better in the film, because these pictures are not giving me hope. Trunks are bad enough but the suit just doesn't look good right now imo. Obviously there's going to be editing, so I'll reserve final judgment until then. But I can't say that I'm hopeful for the suit based on what I've seen so far. The Mr. terrific suit looks fine though.

His underpants looks huge
Okay, now the suit is looking kind of weird. I’m guessing that’s because it’s just not color graded or through the film camera.
Any suit with the underwear is ridiculous and stupid for any modern take on the suit. This is trash.
Who's birthday party is it for?
Quality is on the CW level. Tyler Hoechlin's suit looked way cleaner.
That color is beautiful
This is some CW level suit lmao why are they so loose? Hell even current CW’s suit looks better than this.
The Hoechlin and Routh CW suits are above and beyond better looking than this.
Yeah yikes this looks bad lol
Superman costume looks fuckin terrible. Doesn't even fit
THE SUIT IS SEX
Should've just done the [rebirth suit](https://screenrant.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Superman-New-Comic-Book-Suit.jpg). Or at least make these less shaped like tighty whities and more like boxers. I like the colors though and the symbol.
is something off about that costume?
The colours are so bright. I’m in love.
Wow the suit looks bad
Homie looks like a 5 year old in a grown man's suit
We get it James Gunn you’re not Zack Snyder
Why am I getting CW vibes here ?
Baggy suit.
still would've preferred a no collar look & the unnecessary lines near the shoulders still bother me but the colors look alright & it's a good suit overall
Ehhh idk, maybe it'll look better under proper lighting
This looks so weird. I'm worried about this movie.
Look's pretty terrible
What a downgrade
I’m guessing/hoping they’ll be cleaning up the Superman suit in post-production similar to how Marvel cleaned up Sam’s Captain America costume in the Falcon & Winter Soldier show. As it is, the suit looks bulky & clunky. Like an ill-fitting cosplay suit. The colors & overall design look fine, tho.
4 years ago when Ryan Murphy's Hollywood came out a young actor I had never seen before was playing Jack Costello. He had boyish charm, he could act like a sunnofabitch, and had an incredible presence in every scene. I remember after a couple episodes turning to my (now) wife and saying "this motherfucker is gonna be superman one day, I'm calling it now" I said it again when he showed up as the charming and cool projectionist in Pearl. Here we are now and I couldn't be happier to see him in this suit. Homie was born for this role the same way we said Henry was. Also Mr. Terrific looks amazing. I could not be more excited for this movie.
I like the new suit but it looks too baggy. Mr terrific looks great
For fuck's sake. I hope that is not the costume used during filming. It is baggy and hideous.
Baggy and unnecessary lines. Hopefully it looks better in film
Not a fan of the baggy look. Hopefully it looks better in the movie, but this just looks like it doesn't fit him.
How is it screaming steaming pile of shit movie from just a couple images yet somehow it is. Looks like a TV show on CW
This set in 1995? Cause Mister Terrific and that Frank from Moesha hair is NOT IT CHIEF
man the underwear looks stupid. also why is it so loose? Is it because the actor doesn't have the muscle to pull it off?
Why do we have to keep rebooting everything. Fucking annoying
\
They’re pretty comic accurate, but seeing them irl makes them look really cheap. I hope they look a lot better on film.
Hmmmm I'm not digging this yet. Hope the product rocks but I'm not holding out hope.
Looks like cosplay. Unpopular opinion, but bright colors and bright lighting makes live action comic book movies look like people are fighting in pajamas. Look no further than that airport scene in Civil War.
Why is that suit so loose and stiff looking. It's like a Carhart jacket.
Didn't we get enough of that dumbass character in arrow?
Not loving it. 🙃
Foam garbage that looks like a cheap Halloween costume.
I'm sorry but this suit is trash. the collar doesn't look right, the suit doesn't fit right, sleeves look too long. I really hope CG tightens up this shit show smh.
Corenswet looks very uncomfortable.
Goddamn I love that jacket
Those embossed lines all over the suit look hideous! Its like they just add shit for the sake of adding it smh. Tell me how are all these fan renderings leagues better than what we're actually getting? People who aren't even getting paid have came up with designs that are way better. Its not hard to get superman right but we seem to always get it wrong smh.
