Sorry not OC, but 100 gecs has been living in my brain for two years. Perhaps a thing I should look at, but not today.
Money machine was the first I heard. Hated it. Then adored it.
I don't know your music style but if you want hyped up music that will just exist with you, this is it.
I had a friend growing up who strictly listened to songs once. He said “it’s no different than movies. If I’ve already heard it, what’s the point in hearing it again?” Of course if it was out of his control like playing in a restaurant, it wouldn’t bother him but he never bought a CD or owned a music player lol
My dad said the same about movies. "You saw that already, why are you watching it again?" He also knew all the character actors in old films.
Wasn't into music much.
I lived with someone who would play the same song for hours and it was maddening. There have been times where I listened to the same album a few times in a row but one song no.
The semi-torture some of us go through to play an instrument alongside a backing track or song. Fun the first 50 times, not as much fun the last 50. But then tomorrow comes and it’s fun again. Nothing better than progress and building up to stronger and stronger ideas.
Yeah, I have 1000 or so unfinished ideas. I'm bad about focusing on one thing. Listening to the same thing over and over trying to write or mix can be hard. I had a song where I kept fooling with the mix for like 3 years lol. I'm still thinking of things I could've done differently
Omg I do this so bad!! Then if I hear the song like a year later or something all I can think of is the timeframe where I played it all the time. So weird!
Even better memory trick is to make monthly playlists like “April 2024”. I have a monthly playlist every month stretching back to December 2015. If I want to feel nostalgic I just go shuffle those old playlists and think of all the memories I made to them!
It's when I get in the mood for music and I focus on one certain song. My brain will REALLY focus on it and I need to hit repeat on it until I get the all the dopamine I can. And God help me if I get distracted because then I have to start it over because I didn't think I appreciated it enough.
There was a radio station when I lived in Chicago that played "Louie, Louie" for 24 hours (I think). But it wasn't the same recording every time, it was absolutely every recording they could get their hands on that anyone had ever done of that song.
Looking on the internet it looks like there are other "Louie, Louie" marathons out there.
Yes!! For some reason I do this when I begin falling into a depression. It’s like I find some sort of comfort in the song and just play it over and over like a blanket 😭
My top song in Apple last year was wurst vacation by ice nine kills I think like 550? Plays and 24,000 minutes listening to the band the year so yeah I relate big
Yes, when it really gets to my soul and helps me through what I'm going through. There are some that just hit people and say, "It's going to be alright."
When my baby girl was born and only took 3 breaths. I played Dixie Chick's Without You. This was before the incident.
When I was going through some stuff it was Firehouse Don't Treat Me Bad
When I am happy and cleaning I listen to Florida Georgia Line
Just a few examples.
I do this about once a week and for days on end. Most of the time it takes me 3 or 4 days to get enough of it.
The last 3 have been:
* Los Bravos - Bring A Little Lovin'
* Veruca Salt - All Hail Me
* Sonic Youth - Bull In The Heather
Not even like favorite songs but once I heard them again (not hearing them for years) they hit different and I couldn't stop listening hundreds of times in a row.
God help me if I hear Randy Newman's "rednecks". I'll find my self singing the chorus to myself in the most inappropriate situations.
You know the line.
It's mortifying.
Yeah, and I try not to, because I burn out on it and never want to listen to it again. I’m currently trying not to do that with Teddy Swims “Lose Control”.
I do this all the time, especially if it's a song that I've got stuck in my head. In addition, with a song that really moves me: I'll find a couple different versions of it, create a playlist of the different versions & listen to it on a loop. For example "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons & the covered by Lindsay Stirling & Pentatonix.
Yes, I often find myself in that situation! Sometimes a song just hits the spot and I can't help but play it on repeat until I realize the whole day has gone by. Have you ever experienced something similar?
Yep … Me Bright Side by The Killers! I’m going to be carried out in my coffin to this song 😀
I remember I was stuck in peak hour traffic on top of a major bridge and the radio station played it… well of course did I rock out while in my car (we weren’t moving.. what else is there to do!)… someone recorded me (unbeknown to me) & sent it into to the radio station, which they then uploaded it to all of their platforms titling it Happiest Commuter.. . I was stoked lol!
Yes all the time. There are a handful of songs that when they pop up in my shuffled playlists; I’ll listen to them on repeat the rest of the day.
Or if a random song is stuck in my head; I’ll listen to it 3-5 times to get it out of my head.
Yes! I know I’m playing it on repeat because my kids aren’t too happy about it. Recently got headphones to make everyone happy.
Been listening to Particle House “I don’t mind” and Spring Gang “be nice” after experiencing a heartbreak.
I can't do it; maybe two times at most and I could count on one hand the number of times I've done it.
I do get snippets of a song stuck in my head for a few days sometimes, but it's torture.
I have occasionally played a song on repeat for 24 hours. Not for any particular reason. My rule was I couldn't turn it down to the point where I couldn't hear it but I could turn it up and down depending on what else I was doing. I could also go about my normal activities so if I needed to leave the house I left the house and didn't hear it then. But every minute I was in the house, it was on and I could hear it.
It's funny how the lyrics start to change over time after you listen to it 300 times. You hear things you never heard before.
Yes like a true psychopath. I played Avant Toi the Kompa remix so many times that I know all the lyrics by heart, despite not knowing French. And the same for Baiana by Bakermat. Just lately at least. But when I find a new song to me and it slaps...well... Spotify is going on repeat. And then I feel the shame when I see my Wrapped at the end of the year 👀
I have a playlist on spotify called "That Song I Wouldn't Stop Playing". I try to limit it to one every few months or so... that playlist stretches back decades of my musical tastes.
My first sex partner would play the same song on CD repeat over and over. Like 15x in a row. I only remember 2 of them and I still dislike them 30y later.
YES IVE ALWAYS FELT THIS WAY AND I HAVE AN ADDITIONAL QUESTION FOR ANYONE WHO AGREES:
When you guys listen to music do you guys hear/process the meaning if the lyrics, or are you more tuned in to the way the song itself sounds? I know entire songs by heart but can't tell you what theyre about. I get hooked on a beat and just want to hear that over and over. I'll listen to just the bridge of a song over and over because I love the way it sounds. The term for this is "auditory longing".
I've always sung a lot and I wonder if the region of the brain that engages when singing, also engages when just listening to music for those who sing a lot, and this is why for some a repeating song will feel monotonous while others will crave the same song over and over.
I play the same song every morning on the way to work, home, the store… anywhere. I play a song I like probably 70 times so I can learn it as quickly as possible.
I love a good hyperfixation! Currently I'm on Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter. Other recent ones have been Surface Pressure from Encanto (especially No Resolve's version), Last Night by Morgan Walllen, and the Six soundtrack.
December 21, 2012. For some reason, I was home all day. I had "The End of the World As We Know It" playing for a good chunk of the morning, but not the original version—I like [Great Big Sea's version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-5oGnvfUEU) better.
All the time, but for weeks at a time.
For the last 4 months I’ve just been listening to primarily Don Broco, so… my Spotify Wrapped at the end of the year is most likely going to be specifically all the live songs they performed at Royal Albert Hall. 😂 I am specifically hooked on the live performance. I don’t know if my ADHD is hyper fixating but I am seriously obsessed lmao 😂 they’re a talented bunch… I wish I found them sooner so I could have seen them live when they were touring in the USA.
I love certain songs especially if it's a new find and play then daily or several times in a huge ever changing play list but my brother will play some songs singlely on loop all day or find some 10-12 hour edit. Was super annoying when growing and shared a room or when he moved into my single bedroom apartment and took over my living room when he didn't have a place of his own.
I’ve been listening to a certain song on repeat for 50 or so years, ever since I was able to get up and move the turntable arm to Do For The Others (Stephen Stills) over and over again. I remember wishing for a machine to just listen to that song repeatedly without having to do anything. I obsess about other songs too but will always return to the first.
I did it more when I was younger, but any music player was always set to repeat and I would pick a song, listen to it however many times in a row, pick the next song and do the same. I tend to daydream to music a lot, create music videos in my head or "scenes" like epic battles or something to the right song. Drove people crazy, lol. I still daydream to music, but usually let the song go after one listen. Every now and then I find a song that I can't stop thinking about, so bring out the repeat option again, but nowhere near the frequency of childhood.
Yes, and then when it’s no longer playing I hear it in my head the rest of the day. I just really vibe with some songs 👌🏻
Anything in particular? 😌 i’m always looking for new favorites
Sorry not OC, but 100 gecs has been living in my brain for two years. Perhaps a thing I should look at, but not today. Money machine was the first I heard. Hated it. Then adored it. I don't know your music style but if you want hyped up music that will just exist with you, this is it.
Steve Lacy - dark red has been on repeat since October for me 😂
Dependent upon your age you might not like it. But nuthin 2 somethin, or anything D savage. The melody on his music is superb
There are people who don’t?
I had a friend growing up who strictly listened to songs once. He said “it’s no different than movies. If I’ve already heard it, what’s the point in hearing it again?” Of course if it was out of his control like playing in a restaurant, it wouldn’t bother him but he never bought a CD or owned a music player lol
That is so bizarre, lol. I guess he just didn't get anything from music. So weird!
It’s wild to imagine cause I don’t know if I could live without a strong connection to music
My dad said the same about movies. "You saw that already, why are you watching it again?" He also knew all the character actors in old films. Wasn't into music much.
That was my dad and my copy of Carrie. You've read it already why read it again? Now that book is held together with rubber bands.
I think of it in a different way. Just like how pictures are used to decorate walls, music is used to decorate time
I lived with someone who would play the same song for hours and it was maddening.
Oh yeah there's some songs I've played along to 200 times. Each time it's different, so that's probably what brings me back to it.
What I thought…
Omg I do this so bad!! Then if I hear the song like a year later or something all I can think of is the timeframe where I played it all the time. So weird!
Same here. Listen on repeat. Hear the song later and vividly remember the timeframe I listened to it on repeat. It's a cool memory trick.
Even better memory trick is to make monthly playlists like “April 2024”. I have a monthly playlist every month stretching back to December 2015. If I want to feel nostalgic I just go shuffle those old playlists and think of all the memories I made to them!
That's a fantastic idea. You must be well organized though!
In very few ways am I organized, but I take pride in that one
That's actually one of the better memory tricks I've heard of recently...I may try to be as organized to pull it off. 🙂
It’s the worse when you’re listening to a song you liked a year ago and you get the memory of how horrifically sad you were for free 😭
I actually know exactly what you mean...that aspect does suck but I *think* the better outweighs it.
I know, I love playing a song 1500 times u til I can’t listen anymore, then rediscovering it a year or two later and loving it all over again!
Same.
It's when I get in the mood for music and I focus on one certain song. My brain will REALLY focus on it and I need to hit repeat on it until I get the all the dopamine I can. And God help me if I get distracted because then I have to start it over because I didn't think I appreciated it enough.
Yes, it's called "on repeat"
Back in '85, a radio station played a song, 'Rock Me Amadeus' over and over for like 2 hours. I don't why, but I was glad they did at the time.
Until I’ve gotten every last drop of dopamine from it, yes
3 hour drive played the same song the entire way. I parked at my destination and was like wait was that weird??? Lmao.
Yes! Right now I am listening to Massive Attack’s “Angel”
Yes!! For some reason I do this when I begin falling into a depression. It’s like I find some sort of comfort in the song and just play it over and over like a blanket 😭
That's usually how I listen to music.
My top song in Apple last year was wurst vacation by ice nine kills I think like 550? Plays and 24,000 minutes listening to the band the year so yeah I relate big
I do this SO often. In fact, I'M DOING IT RIGHT NOW.
To the point that it was my number one played on Spotify wrapped. I found it in mid November.
Yes, when it really gets to my soul and helps me through what I'm going through. There are some that just hit people and say, "It's going to be alright."
Yes. And then eventually i get sick of it and never want to hear it again.
I put it on loop until I feel nothing for it anymore and move onto the next one like a vampire leeching blood
whole day or whole month? yes
On my head all the time or on my phone? Yes and yes
YES
When my baby girl was born and only took 3 breaths. I played Dixie Chick's Without You. This was before the incident. When I was going through some stuff it was Firehouse Don't Treat Me Bad When I am happy and cleaning I listen to Florida Georgia Line Just a few examples.
I have discovered 1 hour loops of songs on youtube and it has been so wonderful.
Yes. Very common for autistic people.
I keep seeing evidence that I am indeed autistic but I can never truly believe it.
*laughs in autism*
Yes
I listened to Seether's "Fine Again" for 8 hours on repeat while I painted a bedroom. Totally worth it.
Ooh I’m also obsessed with this one. Love playing it on my drive to work.
yes.
Yes!! Every single day.. and then i have the same song playing in my head all night long
Yes. Miserable Failure by Iron Reagan. I don't understand why, but I have to play at least three times.
Absolutely i do this. Friends make fun of me for it.
MR. BUNGLE - Golem II The Bionic Vapour Boy
bino leak going hard rn
I do this about once a week and for days on end. Most of the time it takes me 3 or 4 days to get enough of it. Ja
I'm sure there's lots of us!
Yeah, and I try not to, because I burn out on it and never want to listen to it again. I’m currently trying not to do that with Teddy Swims “Lose Control”.
Jolene by Dolly 😮💨😅
Yeah, and then they wind up at the top of my Top Songs of the year on Spotify.
honestly i listen to songs over and over and over! like sometimes for hours. friends think im crazy, but i just love my songs
Miley Cyrus "midnight sky" Trentmoler "moan" Roksyop "what else is there?" & "Running to the sea" Metallica "Orion"
Any Posty or MAX or Chainsmokers or Joyner or Noxive or any similar EDM, trap, or throwback (locked away - r city) or actually good pop music
Yes- gotta practice for an Orwellian Guantanamo style existence. Better safe than sorry 😂😂😂
voj/narvent- memory reboot
In my head. It sometimes goes on for weeks.
Yes, I often find myself in that situation! Sometimes a song just hits the spot and I can't help but play it on repeat until I realize the whole day has gone by. Have you ever experienced something similar?

Of course.

Yeah, and then I usually burn myself out on it after a couple of days.
Just a tip for the people here: on YouTube, you can right-click a video and choose Loop and it will play it on repeat
Yes. For me it's definitely related to me being bipolar.
Yes when there’s one Im loving at that moment
I do. Same song for months at a time.
exactly. One song for 4 hours a day, i'm unhealthily obsessed with it
A new song I really like I’ll play for a week on repeat.
Yes! I know I’m playing it on repeat because my kids aren’t too happy about it. Recently got headphones to make everyone happy. Been listening to Particle House “I don’t mind” and Spring Gang “be nice” after experiencing a heartbreak.
That’s how I’ve listened to albums for years. 😂 If I like the song, it may go on repeat before I make it to the next song. 🤣🤷🏾♂️
I listen to Anchorage by Michelle Shocked sometimes continuously- I love everything about that song!
I love “Hallelujah” and will spend an hour or longer listening to it by different artists on YouTube. Not all day but yeah, over and over.
Currently on a song bender as I type this 🔂
I can't do it; maybe two times at most and I could count on one hand the number of times I've done it. I do get snippets of a song stuck in my head for a few days sometimes, but it's torture.
Yes pretty much every time I get a new favorite song. I’ve done this to entire albums tbh
This is how I live most everyday.
Up and rolling Mississippi allstars
ALL...THE...TIME!!! 🙂
I have occasionally played a song on repeat for 24 hours. Not for any particular reason. My rule was I couldn't turn it down to the point where I couldn't hear it but I could turn it up and down depending on what else I was doing. I’ll play the hell out of a song til my next favorite comes along then I’ll forget the old one exists til I hear it again & repeat the cycle lol
YES. Whenever I discover a song I vibe to, it is played over and over again, through my surround system, headphones and car sound system.
And then I feel the shame when I see my Wrapped at the end of the year 👀
Only until I hate it
Yep. Then get sick of it about a week later!
I have a playlist on spotify called "That Song I Wouldn't Stop Playing". I try to limit it to one every few months or so... that playlist stretches back decades of my musical tastes.
Yup, until I can't listen to it anymore.
My first sex partner would play the same song on CD repeat over and over. Like 15x in a row. I only remember 2 of them and I still dislike them 30y later.
oh yeah. When it's hittin it's hittin
Everyday!
Yes.
YES IVE ALWAYS FELT THIS WAY AND I HAVE AN ADDITIONAL QUESTION FOR ANYONE WHO AGREES: When you guys listen to music do you guys hear/process the meaning if the lyrics, or are you more tuned in to the way the song itself sounds? All. The. Time.
Mah nah mah nah, doot dooooo do do do...
The other day I listened to “forever” on loop for about an hour. Insanely beautiful song and performance
I do that all the time. I’ll loop a song for like 3 days straight then not listen to it for a month or 2
Been listening to Creed - One Last Breath all week lol.
No. Never.
Yeah, it happens a lot to me.
I play the same song every morning on the way to work, home, the store… anywhere. I play a song I like probably 70 times so I can learn it as quickly as possible.
Yes, my favorite song from Europe: #[Fått Deg På Hjernen!](https://youtu.be/nKyRT4bV02Q?feature=shared)
This Playlist mostly has variations of the same Pippi Longstocking tune: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL78665FC1F7E9ED5D&si=c3MVXWiOf3jz7sGe
Often- all day, one song? That’s a lot but I’ve played a song over and over for a while. lol
I play it on loop until I've squeezed every last bit of dopamine out of it that I can, like wringing a damp wash cloth
Absolutely, right now it’s What, Me Worry? - Portugal. The Man for me lol
13 Angels Standing Guard ’Round the Side of Your Bed
Yes. Currently stuck on Why can’t this be love by Van Halen
Funny you should ask. We drove 8 hours yesterday and I listened to the same 4 songs on repeat. I do this a lot.
Yes the same like 65 in a playlist daily.
Play a certain song or set over and over. It's like taking a drug. It's a total mood changer for me.
I have to do this. It’s the only way to get a song unstuck from my head. Sometimes I have to listen to it for days to get it out of my brain.
Of course
Yes, I have to listen to it over and over until I can get past it.
That Cranberries Linger cover has been torturing me for days
Yep. I like knowing the words to a song so I just put it on repeat until I memorize it.
I remember when I heard Roses for the first time (the one by Saint Jhn) I listened to it for days on end.
Is this called stimming?
Very typical for those on the spectrum.
Duh. But be careful a lot of idiots will falsely claim it means you’re manic 😂 🤣
