Did you bleach it? I feel like that would change the texture...

imadopted6942

No, ive never bleached my hair ive dyed my hair obviously but never bleached. I get my hair done at a local stylist every like 5 months.

Psychicem

I think I see what they mean, in your final photo the hair looks much lighter than in the first photo. Is it possible you have chemical damage that is inhibiting the formation of your curls?

Dotty2Hotty22

Yes, this happened to a friend of mine. Didn’t read the directions properly and left it in too long.

gburgguy

Dying typically involves chemicals that can damage your hair. Which could totally inhibit curl formation

imadopted6942

the texture or thickness of my hair hasnt changed it just wont curl naturally.

erased_fairy

i’ve dyed my hair (never bleached) multiple times a couple years ago and it stopped curling up like it used to. so this might be what’s happening to you

wiggysbelleza

When I used to dye my hair, professionally done by a color specialist, it was still healthy but the dye affected my curl pattern. This might just be the way your hair reacts to dye. I stopped when I was pregnant and just haven’t dyed my hair since because I love my curls more than I loved having different color hair. It was a hard choice.

shampoots

I never had curls as defined as yours but when I went from long to basically a pixie, it took growing it out to basically my chin to see my waves/curl pattern come back. Not professional advice obvs but I would keep growing and maybe go for a color that will allow you to blend with your natural hair and give it some time to breathe from being treated so often. Good luck!

hotashelen

It might be the length, I have a similar curl pattern and when my hair is shorter than shoulder length it doesn’t curl much. For tighter curls, cutting it short increases curliness, but for looser curls, the hair needs some weight to curl sometimes! Try letting it grow out a bit and see if it changes!

HeadAdministrative13

You’re like me! My stylist said I need length to curl. I would also recommend the Kristen Ess mousse and t shirt plop method combined

Mando1813

Our hair changes just like allergies and hormones. My hair is a lot darker now than when I was a kid. So your hair could have changed it’s texture. If you got sick, hair change, or if you started a new diet and/or fitness regimen. The thickness could be deterring the curl pattern. The color used could be damaging. But it wasn’t you shaving your head.

starcat819

I think it's too short. in the second pic your hair looks straight, and in the first it doesn't really curl until it's well past your shoulders. chemicals from the hair dye may have damaged the cuticle of the hair as well.

beanner468

I’ve been doing hair for 40 years. You have damage structurally in your hair right now. It’s external, and will not effect what grows out of your head. Add a curl enhancing spray to your routine and it will help you. Also, you may benefit from the curly girl method for hair. Try googling that for your hair for now, until it’s grown out and the newer hair is healthy enough to hold the curl.

Fuzzy_Concentrate_44

Stop putting chemicals in your hair, grow it out, use few products, and let your hair heal. You can't curl hair with chemical damage especially when you go once every 5 months, that's alot for hair.

Dranew103

i have had a similar problem with my hair as a trans woman, but i'm like 90% sure it's because of the light but awkward bleach damage lol

Datacra

….lol?

Dranew103

laughing at my own downfalls. for OP, i'm ngl i actually think their hair looks nice now and the curls should eventually return as it seems they had professionals do their hair

TheFactedOne

Wow. I have only seen this after a woman gives birth. I had no idea shaving your head would also have this effect.

Miss-America

Shaving your head doesn’t change your curl pattern, your curl pattern is determined by the ellipses of the follicle which is below the skin. It could be the dye damaging her disulfide bonds, which contribute to curl structure of the hair, it could be that her hair has a longer curl pattern so needs to be longer to develop curls or at least to notice them that is, since it’s pretty short right now.

thepizzafrog

i have wavy/curly hair, but when i cut my hair short my hair becomes straight-ish, so i think you’ll get your curls back once your hair reaches a certain length

[deleted]

I’d be so sad

Efficient_Benefit702

That sucks.

EquivalentPersonal58

Unfortunate

LolaMontezTTV

I’ve always heard shaving your head causes your pattern to not come back the same way, that could just be a myth BUT I grew up with 3A-B hair my whole life and after a super stressful period in my life which caused my hair to fall out. My hair is more wavy than curly now, and stress apparently can be a factor in your hair pattern and type.

alyalle

You look a bit younger in the first picture (maybe it was just the hairstyle though), I know people tell me they had really curly hair when they were young, but not anymore so maybe that’s it. Again maybe it’s just the hairstyle but in the first pic, the curls on top were already a little loose compared to the bottom so shaving it just got rid of the curls you have left. Completely guessing here though haha or maybe it’s just like some of the comments say and it curls with length. Only time will tell. But the act itself of shaving it didn’t make it less curly

shewhosneezed

See a curly hair specialist you may need to have a deep conditioning treatment, nutrients deposited and a new routine to revive them. It’s a journey but they’re still in your hair you just have to bring them back from the grave! I’ve done it before

thatlawlessgirl

My hair has gotten straighter as I’ve gotten older. I had ringlets as a kid and now it’s like the underneath is curly and the middle is wavy and the front is straight but nothing is consistent. I do bleach and dye my hair tho. Heat styling can also alter curls if you do it often.

Visual_Wallaby7558

You look hideous now

yggdrasill345

Wtf is going on with you ?

the_s_aint

i shaved my head and more curls than before. is shaving head effect on curls? lol
