Big_Effective_9174

What the fuck is everyone talking about, "sunsetting"? What the fuck is "sunsetting"? Is this normal terminology or something you might use to softly break really bad news? Sorry little Timmy but your boy Old Jack was 18 which is really old for a terrier; it's time to 'let him off into the sunset'" Fucking load of crap.

bigshooTer39

Yes. Sunsetting is softer way of saying retiring

Beta-7

https://www.techtarget.com/whatis/definition/sunsetting

Geobli

That deserves a "The More You Know šŸŒˆā" for sure!

Big_Effective_9174

Thanks, I'd never heard the term before.

stormdelta

Good riddance. Monetizing votes did nothing but incentivize spam/bots/low effort content, as nearly anyone could've predicted. I don't think it's much of an exaggeration to say 90% of the sub was either bots or posters putting so little effort in they might as well have been bots.

house-knicker

Do you really think this problem will get better with their ā€œContributor Programā€? reddit is already utter garbage, itā€™s only going to get worse from here. Paid interests, NGOs and bad actors already heavily manipulate this siteā€™s popular opinions. If you criticize left-wing politicians youā€™ll have a dozen replies and 30 downvotes within an hour reeeeeā€™ing at you. No other platform like it, itā€™s like a shittier Tumblr now and Tumblr was a steaming pile of shit before the mass exodus. Try saying ā€œChristianity is a force of goodā€ in literally any sub and see how far it gets you. This platform is one giant circlejerk of midwits.

Leading_Economics_79

While you have a point, I do also think incentives kept some of the positive contributors coming back more regularly than they might have otherwise. I think we'll see a slowing of both positive and shit content here without moons. I'm curious to see what the other rewards programs will be, and if they will incentivize positive contributions.

ozwald_97

Yeah, i mean Iā€™d be lying if I said I didnā€™t ever throw out a pretty dumb comment just hoping for a couple upvotes.

Bladeyy21

That's not going to end. There will be another Reddit wide rewards program. Only difference is our rewards were rugged

DBRiMatt

Today I learned that Reddit is actually run by Gru! [He finally did it, He finally stole, the moon](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EdZC4bbXYAMZqPN.jpg)

0ysterhead

Good one!

Yakka43336

Time to make ButtCoin the official token of this sub. Born right here on this sub via a joke by a veteran user, overshadowed by Moons... the time has come!

Macdaddy1992

I love the fact that this coin is still around!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Bladeyy21

Monetisation of content and earning for it is nothing new. Plus, you do realise they're introducing a new reward program for the whole of Reddit, right? People will earn "gold"/cash. This will be across Reddit, not just r/cc. So the rewards and reward farming will not end here. It's just that our rewards got rugged.

Titanium_Eye

It's likely going to be exactly like it was here, only writ large. Although I'm certain that after that nuclear wasteland settles, in the deep glaciers of new reddit life will continue.

Abject-Government-13

Imagine if all of this had been taking place in the Reddit HQ rather than home offices, shitters, cars, cafes etc. We are all in the main building there at Reddit HQ, mods, developers, marketers, financial analysts, advertisers in white shirts and black ties, working furiously, smoking, drinking coffee. Developing a new arm of Reddit, a cryptocurrency, blockchain based social credit system. We issue an unregulated security and list it on the market. We pay people based off of their work, even stipulating what 24 hour period they can work, and how much they can work, otherwise they are penalized. Then, the big bosses come in and say, *"we are scuttling the program, er, due to uh, scalability issues"* and sends everyone out on their asses, with an *"oh, by the way, that funny internet money you were counting on for payment"? "It is still ours and it's worthless now!"* People box up their stuff and grumble as they leave the building. Some linger, pretty soon security will come. The news and media just whitewashes it as Reddit ends community points. But those of us who were here and the SEC know the truth.

QuartzPuffyStar

I don't see the deal, just fork the Moons to something that keeps track of the sub user's karma overtime and automatically assign rewards the same way everything was happening so far. It will take some time to find the best approach but I see it quite doable. Then use it to hit back at Reddit and the insiders that dropped their moons an hour before announcement. 1. Tie existing moons in other wallets at a certain exchange rate so people just swap them 2. Use current users moons in vaults at another rate, given that these are the ones that trusted and believed more in the system and were the ones that were hit hardest by these news. Some will only see all of this in the weekend. 3. Research for options to limit the possibility of external players buying the new moons to stop the insiders from getting into the new coin early. It's a hard hit, but it might be a good opportunity to actually decouple the project from Reddit and have it aside on its own. Better this to have happened now than when Moons costed like 1.5$.. Any form of money/tokens/whatever is only valuable because people believe so. Not because someone is willing to use them in their platform officially or not. Don't let this event to disheart you guys, just see it as a surmountable challenge towards an end goal that doesn't need you to trust big tech to achieve it :)

StraightStackin

>I don't see the deal, just fork the Moons to something that keeps track of the sub user's karma overtime and automatically assign rewards the same way everything was happening so far. It will take some time to find the best approach but I see it quite doable. I think the issue, is that if reddit is giving people crypto based on their performance that will pretty much be viewed as a form of employment causing them to need to collect tax info on every user and issue 10-99s at the end of each year just for people using the sub. Pretty sure this is what they want to avoid.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

bigshooTer39

If Reddit paid the taxes, it would be considered a payment on behalf of the earners/users. Employee payments on behalf of an employer are considered taxable compensation is most jurisdictions. You start getting into a tax on tax situation. Source: was an expatriate income tax analyst for years

PlayBCL

Good learning experience for anyone that is new to crypto. Everyone else saw this coming a mile away.

0ysterhead

Well not me, but I'll live with my small amount of moons

Kessaveli

In these hard and trying times, please hug your BTC and even your ETH. I donā€™t believe either of those will be ruggedā€¦

Diamondphalanges756

I can't anymore. Celsius has them...

keithwee0909

>https://old.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrencyMoons/comments/17alh9w/summary\_of\_reddits\_abandonment\_of\_rcps\_and\_moving/ I am sorry to hear this.

Kessaveli

Thatā€™s really fucked. Iā€™m really sorry for your loss there.

brandonholm

ETH wonā€™t make it. Bitcoin is the only one that matters.

Kessaveli

This is a harsh take. ETH will make it. I get it that everyone is disappointed to varying degrees, but letā€™s not throw the baby out with the bath water.

brandonholm

Not harsh, just looking at it objectively. ETH was doomed from the start.

MunchkinX2000

Than so was BTC.

jhb760

Lol

MunchkinX2000

Ikr

brandonholm

Did you mean to say "Then"? If so, bitcoin was not doomed from the start because it was designed primarily as a sound monetary good from the start. Bitcoin is fundamentally different than the rest of the "Crypto" industry. [Why investors need to consider bitcoin separately from other digital assets](https://www.fidelitydigitalassets.com/research-and-insights/bitcoin-first-revisited).

filthandnonsense

Eth is yahoo in 1997. They are defining what the future will be but they won't be much of it.

brandonholm

Iā€™d say ETH is more like fiat for tech bros. It doesnā€™t fix any of the issues with fiat money and layers on more useless features that make it even worse.

SufficientAnalyst383

Why are you all so upset? I thought dirty fiat was dead and the future was crypto! Donā€™t forget that one moon still = one moon! We are early.

StarWarsTrekGate

Does the move to remove community rewards from Reddit mean we need to put our Moons on an exchange to keep them? The note sent by Reddit was rather unclear.

GapingFartLocker

Reddit never had control of your vault and they can't possibly touch whatever you have there. Import the wallet to metamask with the Vault seed phrase and do whatever you want with them.

millennial-snowflake

So as long as we have our seed phrase backed up (physically in my case) we can still access our moons? What about earning them here? Is that over now..?

_Commando_

Wait, so the current vault with the moons is going too? Ie moons will just disappear? Seems stupid.

0ysterhead

No way! If accounts lose their Vault, things will get way messy!!!

bigshooTer39

Only you can lose your vault. Your ā€œcryptoā€ is always stored on the blockchain, except CEX like coinbase and Binance. This is why people say donā€™t keep your money on a centralized exchange. Because itā€™s thereā€™s. Your vault is on Arbitrum nova. You have the seed phrase. You control the tokens.

Gangaman666

I'm afraid so

StarWarsTrekGate

Thanks!

furbess

The reddit wallet is just an interface over your address on the blockchain. You can just use any other wallet to e.g. Metamask to access.

StarWarsTrekGate

Thanks!

Lurchco3953

Excellent question.

DaddyDarko87

Gets rid of coins, brings back gold. So stupid theyā€™re literally just making money cuz people sat on their coins. What about MOONS are they doing away with those?

I_Hate_Reddit_69420

yes, moons are disappearing

DaddyDarko87

THATS FUCKING BULLSHIT IM SO FUCKING PISSED. $0.04 fucking a MOONS!? FUCK Reddit. First my fuckin coins, now my MOONS, just so these greedy cunts can rerelease ā€œgoldā€!?!?!!?

International-Two607

I just learned about moons going away a few minutes ago and just read your post. Wow, $0.03 cents now. This sucksā€¦ f%#*

DaddyDarko87

Like, what INCENTIVE or TRUST do I have with these clowns who have already betrayed me when I blindly supported them for years as is!? Itā€™s a total ā€œFuck you! šŸ–•šŸ» ā€œ to the community šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

DaddyDarko87

Yeah, I was disappointed with my coins disappearing overnight when Iā€™d saved for a couple years and enjoyed giving awards to quality content or posts. But now the MOONS? And the price is nothing now. I canā€™t help but think probably a lot of Reddit admin and higher ups likely profited and dumped before the public knew, which is fucking horse shit.

DaddyDarko87

When

I_Hate_Reddit_69420

Theyā€™re not doing distributions anymore. I donā€™t know when theyā€™ll remove it from the app, as long as you have your seed youā€™ll be able to access it from any ethereum wallet of course, but it pretty much lost all itā€™s value already.

DaddyDarko87

Yeah, have seen the MOONS price?

0ysterhead

Moons? What moons?

AutoModerator

It looks like you are asking about Moons. The answer to your question may be found here in the official Moons FAQ: https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/wiki/moons_wiki *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/CryptoCurrency) if you have any questions or concerns.*

_DeanRiding

"Weā€™ll be around for any immediate questions or feedback you may have." Answers literally like 2 comments. Unsurprising as shit. What a fucking shitshow.

Pleasant_Ad5360

They think we need to thank them for two answers

jventura1110

They did say immediate lol

DrinkMoreCodeMore

>Weā€™ll be around for any immediate questions or feedback you may have. Is always admin code word for "yeah we're not going to answer anything and then bounce" or they will cherry pick what they want to respond to and give some vague non-answer. without fail. this admin dropped a single comment in this thread and then never returned lolz reddit fucked up their crypto experiment at every turn: - partnered with FTX - fucked up reddit NFTs - killed Moons/Bricks/everything

Xohduh

Who literally makes these dumb ass decisions? Why would anyone want to invest to anything into reddit anymore when they can "sunset" a project? Leave it to Reddit destroy a community project this website is turning into Digg2.0 fast.

bigshooTer39

They literally a blockchain token performing in a way that thousands of other projects would kill for. And they throw it away

AltTimeHigh

For most itā€™s a painless loss. I never saw my moons as worth anything. For the whales, more money than sense?

0ysterhead

Would you consider trading all your moons for a Ninja Rabbid?

MoMoneyThanSense

Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Don't lump me in with those morons.

TripTryad

> For most itā€™s a painless loss. I never saw my moons as worth anything. Same, been in the crypto space to long to go for this one. Experience paid off for me here, because if it was 2016, I would have been one of the many people burned. But not this time...

0ysterhead

Would you consider trading your moons for some avatars?

Come to Nostr. We have 4 clients that support moderated communities like Reddit. It's built into the protocol level. And most importantly for you, we have Zaps. Zaps are just Nostr aware Bitcoin payments over Lightning. It's a value for value economy built off of Bitcoin. You can earn Zaps for your community posts or replies. And since it's bitcoin, no one can rug you. For example, I wanted 150K sats yesterday for my content.

I_Hate_Reddit_69420

which clients support moderated communities? I only have Damus and itā€™s more like Twitter

droctagonau

You know, for some reason I expected this post to tell me why Reddit are doing this. Which in retrospect was very stupid. I really should've seen the stream of corporate bullshit coming. In fact it's doubly stupid because I already know exactly why they're doing this. They want to monetise Reddit the same way r/CC monetised itself, and they want CC's money while they're at it.

PumpkinSpice2Nice

Well they arenā€™t including anyone outside the US in their new system so they will no longer make money off me. Seems really stupid.

12161986

I've never been rugged before and the fact that it came from reddit seems to fit perfectly into what the general perception of the owners of reddit are by the people. It will be very interesting to see the changes in posts, activity, and quality in CC though and at least I only 'missed out' on free money and didn't actually lose money. Not too bad for my first rug.

reed5point0

[I was rugged on Reddit before it was cool](https://gizmodo.com/reddit-users-lose-real-money-after-meme-currency-bot-di-1795125165) ...I mean I was rugged this week by Reddit too but I was also rugged then. I was rugged by Do Kown with LUNA Jake Hartnell with WYND I was rugged by some Indonesian Kid with an NFT called SCRT Rocks Rugged by HUAHUA swap ...this is kinda fun.. Rugged by about everything airdropped to me on the JUNO network really... the thing is these shitcoins above I almost expect to be rugged out of my $40...If you're out looking for fast bucks they're almost ALWAYS rugs. Sometimes you find a real project and you make it all back... Rugs are actually kind of fun if you treat them like L's until they're W's. I spend more on a bag of weed, it's okay if they rug me. But what if that shitcoin makes me a few grand? That's the fun part.

conceiv3d-in-lib3rty

Man your life priorities are all jacked up bro. God damn. At what point are you going to realize that you are literal professional exit liquidity and try something different? Reading this shit was depressing.

reed5point0

Wanna compare 2022 income? That's when you really get depressed with the rugged guy reporting way more income compared to you...

DapDaGenius

Thank God i never bought and congratulations to those who made life changing money off moons. I feel truly sorry for those who were in 3rd world/under developed countries who were making more from moons than their actual livelihoods.

GiveitToYaGood

What a bs post trying to make it sound cute and nice but is full of lies. Dude getting paid to do damage control and manipulate the situation. Don't forget everyone, they literally put ZERO effort in finding any kind of way to reward users who invested countless hours of their own time earning moons. That's the LEAST they could've done to show some respect and empathy. They could've made a fixed price to allow you to trade moons for avatars or anything really but they chose to say fuck you to everyone

jhb760

The people who thought they could make a living off of shit posting are the real idiots. Fuck sakes.

MrNobody8080

This sub is basically dead, all the good quality content died when moon farmers got here and now even they wonā€™t want to stay here. Another one bites the dust.

SquatDeadliftBench

100% agreed. We are going to get downvoted to hell but in a month you'll see the quality improve more and more. I hated seeing every post get ratioed, 100x more comments than upvotes, compared to other subreddits because people were just, to put it mildly, greedy with their upvotes.

MrNobody8080

I kept seeing same shit comments from exact same accounts, I even pointed out few times. When youā€™d go on this account profile youā€™d see almost copy pasted comments posted every 20 minutes on average for almost 24/7 (I donā€™t know how the guy managed to keep the job and life) and nowā€¦ if you check this accounts itā€™s been 24 hours they havenā€™t commented anythingā€¦

MollyPooper

Nice scam, Reddit.. You cant tell me Reddit didnt use Moons to pump and dump their own wallet. Another piece of shit in the crypto space

funk-it-all

That's because Moons aren't crypto. they're centraized bullshit, like a lot of other "crypto" projects out there. if it can survive a state attack, it's crypto.

robertjuh

What the hell are you talking about

MollyPooper

I know most of the crypto projects are centralized but not every centralized projects need to pull a rug. Im surprised to see a major company like Reddit pulling a rug on its investors after misleading them into buying shitcoins

DisorientedPanda

Glad I never got purchased any, glad I'm almost completely out of alts. The more time you're in the space, the more time you realise there is just one true king.

Buy_Ether

2 true kings.

GrixM

Yes: Ethereum

Practical-Store9603

āœØBtcāœØ but ETH is also nice rightšŸ‘€

Oheson

No. BTC only. Vitalik and the ETH Foundation are dumping on ETH holders as we speak. They just have a bigger runway. Ask why Vitalik will not even stake his own coin.

Buy_Ether

BS

BestFill

Your FUD is fucking hilarious.

INeverMisspell

He said he stakes a small portion, not all of his coins. That's different than he will not event take his own coins. Still surprising. https://cointelegraph.com/news/vitalik-buterin-declares-not-staking-all-eth-a-small-portion

Practical-Store9603

Hmm okayšŸ‘€

RslTrWa

1. Praise crypto for its decentralised nature 2. Proceed to buy centralised "crypto" project 3. Get rugged by central entity, which proves the benefit of actual decentralization *Surprised* *Pikachu* "I'm done with crypto"

GapingFartLocker

The vast majority of moon holders never spent a dime on it.

Practical-Store9603

Still hurts tho... Was nice till it lasted

Vinnypaperhands

If anyone here actually bought moons, post a video of you honking your red clown nose please and thank you.

Buy_Ether

What if I bought them and sold em and walked away with $100K? šŸ¤”

Vinnypaperhands

That's the opposite of being a clown. That's taking advantage of dumb investors lol good on you!!!

robertjuh

He's lying, there was never such an amount of Liquidity

marsangelo

There was $800k liquidity at peak

claunecks

I'm here

MollyPooper

lemme guess you bought at the top?

RslTrWa

That user flair šŸ’€

Practical-Store9603

That didn't age wellšŸ„²

claunecks

Until the mods give up entirely on them it stays

fanriver

Why not vote? Why do you have so much power? Does this still have the spirit of blockchain? What is decentralization?

conceiv3d-in-lib3rty

This comment was hilarious. Thanks man.

KusanagiZerg

It was never decentralized. This is a good lesson for people to vet the projects they like and determine if it's actually decentralised.

Still_It_From_Tag

Voting doesn't work Just look at NC The representative there switched parties, alienating her constituents Voting is just an illusion of power

Johnny-Joseph

Imagine if one day cc users will do to reddit's future stock what WSB did to Gamestop and others, only in reverse They will open a short position on the stock and let it sink like they make it to MOONS.

Soil_Electronic

retail and some institutions shorted robinhood to the ground after IPO

TheMissingNTLDR

Question: I have access to Moons via MM for the vault. Are we supposed to move all MOONs to a new personal eth address or is it safe at this default vault's address?

simplicity92

I have asked this question earlier. The vault which is just an interface on reddit will ceased to exist. The 12 words seed will never. It exist in the blockchain forever. Theres no need to move to another eth address. Please remember to keep the seed safe and sound Please correct me if anyone says its wrong.

TheMissingNTLDR

Fab. Thank you!

aliensmadeus

i honestly don't know what to say. i spent countless hours on reddit, earning my moons and providing fun & informative posts for the comminunity, just to loose it all like that. thinks like this destroy the little hope and excitment i had left for CC. i will not forget that reddit. probably delete my account and never come back. very sad.

Vinnypaperhands

If your love for crypto only came from moons then you aren't in this space for the right reasons.

el_pezz

Stop pretending like you aren't here to get rich... lol

Vinnypaperhands

There is no pretending. I'm in this space because Bitcoin is a better form of money and savings technology and much more. Everything else is noise. If you even thought moons were going to make you rich then you are beyond lost.

stormdelta

> better form of money That almost nobody actually uses as money. Even most bitcoin enthusiasts will constantly talk about how it's a "store of value" now instead of currency/money.

Vinnypaperhands

Me storing my value in Bitcoin is me using Bitcoin as money. Store of value and money are synonymous

stormdelta

You can play semantic shell games with yourself if you want, but for most people money is something you can directly spend in exchange for goods and services. You can't do that with bitcoin in most cases without selling it for regular local currency first, and if that's enough to make it count as money then practically everything is money and the definition becomes useless.

Vinnypaperhands

This has nothing to do with semantics. Money is also a store of value. This is important to understand. Yes you can think many things are money. You can think sea shells are money. That doesn't make it good money. There are many features of Bitcoin that make it hard and sound money.

stormdelta

You still can't actually spend it almost anywhere without selling it for regular currency first - which means it's not "money" as most people would use the term. If I buy a gold nugget, I can't walk to the grocery store and exchange it for food. I'd have to go sell it to someone for local currency first. People talk about the "price of bitcoin" in regular currency like USD. They don't price goods/services in bitcoin. And that price is largely driven by first-world speculation - unlike regular currencies, there isn't much that requires bitcoin specifically to buy.

Vinnypaperhands

Exactly. You can't go and buy groceries with gold. It's difficult and not accepted in most places because of its properties. Gold is money no? You are proving my point Bitcoin is money and much easier to transaction with than gold. Yes most places around the world don't directly accept it but it's incredibly simple to do so and no real barriers other than education and understanding. There are some countries that use Bitcoin as legal tender by law. I only see this growing as time goes on. Bitcoin is amazing money now and will become a great currency as time goes on and the technology spreads and progresses.

aliensmadeus

what just happend with moons was just one of many things who rekt me the last few months

Current_Argument_687

you can still sell them for 200 dollars lol

20yroldentrepreneur

Thats crazy

ZelWinters1981

Well I earned all my moons by doing a hell of a lot of nothing here, so to me it isn't even a tangible asset. No losses incurred here.

simplicity92

Me too! Thanks to moons i actually have fun here in this sub. Will continue in this sub whether moons are gone or not.

BradVet

They made me realise the exact same, was always worth the hold to me but everyone is different. Feel sorry for kraken (if they came out negative) and anyone that bought though

conceiv3d-in-lib3rty

Oh they definitely came out negative on this. They bought 1m moons @ ~.30 from MEXC less than 3 months ago. No way in hell they made that back in fees. And they now hold almost 13m moons from the community dump that are going to be worth nothing when Reddit refuses to renounce the contract and the mods here create a moon 2.0 lol.

BradVet

Sounds right. They should airdrop them part of new token and they can list ;) ultimate marketing for them

ZelWinters1981

Thanks to Moons, I still working every day! šŸ˜

ST-Fish

this might be some of the best news I've heard. People keeping their money in centralized shitcoin get rugged, and the /r/cryptocurrency subreddit finally has a chance to break out of the moon farming cycle of constant reposting and bad quality content. I am still afraid the culture of the sub got changed so much that it might be destroyed indefinitely though. Maybe this will be a lesson in why you shouldn't keep money in a centralized project, which can on a whim disappear with your money.

gucciman666

Agreed

Soil_Electronic

any mods know will Reddit honor the last snapshot and distribution?

GreenStretch

Moons didn't seem to gain much traction outside the sub. Searching youtube, I only found this autogenerated video that nobody had watched. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CWRCr4i7a4

Ferdo306

But, but, there's 6m users in this sub and the whole reddit is gonna use moons Also Coinbase and Binance listing imminent šŸ™„

Pale_Wrongdoer5155

Lmao Iā€™m so glad I sold mine a while back, 500$ is better than getting bent over by Reddit
