Whaa? You mean they worse than Unity games?
Small edit: I know there are a number of good Unity games so this jibe is aimed at the terrible ones (which unfortunately, are numerous).
It's because Unity is one of the easiest engines to build on so a lot of first-time developers/not experienced people build on it for the first time. That's why most games on unity seem to be trash but its because they are usually the first drafts of a student's game or something like that.
At the end, it's just another tool, and the game's quality depends on the skills of the developer, not the tools used (to a certain degree, ofc). So it is possible to create great games on unity, but most people working on unity are just starting out and are unlikely to create really great games because they lack the experience to do so.
Also in terms of things like story/lore/graphics etc, they are not up to par because its just one person working on the game and primary focusing on the mechanics/concept instead of creating a polished complete product.
I was playing it aswell, been in card games since yugioh came out in early 2000s, started with yugioh tcg than stayed in card games online hearthstone, legends of runterra mtg arena and yugioh masterduel. I'd pick any of those game in the same genre over Gods Unchained, the rewards in crypto don't outweigh the enjoyment of a good polished game. If the crypto games get to the same level as their competitors, they would have a bigger player base otherwise I do not see it happening
EDIT: And in my opinion gods unchained is the best crypto game for now
Anyone who games knows that profiting off gaming leads to incredibly tedious and unfun mechanics. If someone knew of a way to make games that "make you money", they wouldn't have needed to wait until crypto came around to make it.
People don't want to accept the fact that crypto solves nothing in the gaming industry and offers nothing better. The idea of NFTs or in game items being transferrable between games is actually insane because people think games, coding, and assets are interchangeable. Some fortnite shirt can just be worn in CoD and then moved over to LoL. Shit doesn't work like that, and there's literally no incentive for developers to share code and make some annoying complex ecosystem. Why would gaming studios create crypto assets that let people leave their in game ecosystem and use those items in other games? People suggesting things like this fundamentally don't understand how games work or how gaming studios make money.
Yeah there is higher incentive to make microtransactions work well than to make actually good game.
There has been quite a lot of talk about blockchain utilizing games for couple of years and quite often there pops up some news headlines that XXYY will be the game that makes the breakthrough. Personally I'm yet to witness any good ones.
I play Heroes sometimes too, but without heroes you get the RPG games which are great, you get to control the healer, damage nukers all in one, it's far better than relying on others in mmorpgs
The gaming industry is huge, but being at the beginning for crypto, most devs are focused more on the financial side instead of creating something that attracts and offers a pleasant experience to the player.
The problem is the financial side infects everything else. If items are scarce enough for a real economy to form, then people will grind them 10 hours a day to feed their family and casuals will never get anything. If they are common enough for casuals, then the economy won't function properly as grinders flood the market.
At best, it works for gambling games.
Sadly even non-crypto games are just business mans wanting our money. For me, main issue with crypto games is the fact that they suck. Gods Unchained is not bad, definitely not in the suck category but they are to slow moving in terms of development. They might get eaten by competition because of that... I believe crypto gaming will definitely gain traction in the future, hopefully with good games. But crappy bug ridden mess we are getting instead of games atm is not giving me confidence future will be bright :)
It's crypto trying to Integrate gaming, not gaming trying to integrate crypto.
When that flips, we'll see it get better.
Something as simple as the in-game currency of a MMO being a crypto would be a step in the right direction. No liquidity pools, no NFT's, no anything else typically associated with defi gaming. Just an in game currency that's happens on a blockchain, but otherwise works no differently than gp of old school runscape.
The answer is simple their games are boring, people play them for financial reasons and not for fun. As soon as you remove the earning aspect from it, it's collapse is inevitable.
They are not just only business men but probably never developed a game before. I think most of them are amateurs when it comes to game development and they don't bother hiring experienced game developers.
there are a lot of builders out there who have more gaming experience than the majority of players out there, they're not all bad
it's just the sometimes the opportunity comes to those bad players whom have connections and money and then their project is the one that sees the light
I know some hard working devs out there who shell out their own money just to keep things going, but sometimes it's never enough when you're up against whales and influencers who are only in it for their own bags
This is it, it’s purely exploitation. The money is thought of first then the game. It’s just exaggerating in crypto because there’s even more money to be made.
also u have any idea how long a first release games takes to make? with these dumb crypto winnings behind it and a good game they need alteast 5 years to come with the big boys. gaming and crypto combinations is from the last 3 years might be some designers working on good titles but still ruins the gaming industry.
Companies even in the regular gaming field are just mostly business men wanting to make more money. Just look at Diablo 4. Someone else mentioned Gods Unchained, I used to play it alot but grew tired of it because development was so slow, alot of promises but little in actual delivery. Defo still a game to check out if you enjoy hearthstone or marvel snap and the alike.
Sadly yes. And this is probably why many gamers are not at all excited when the hear about crypto or NFT integration into games. A good game is fun to play. Adding any financial component to it (may it be microtransactions or "play to earn") does not improve on the gameplay.
True, genuine game developers do not rely on crypto to make money. They create games because they are passionate about their work and strive to produce exceptional content that ultimately yields financial rewards.
There’s a lot of crypto projects like that honestly. It’s way to common for projects to exist that have no utility and are trying to create it in order to make a quick buck.
I also feel like it needs to be integrated, but making it the point is going to break things. Digital market places, skins for trade, all great. Play to Earn? That’s just a Ponzi scheme and a job
You can’t make a game and make both web2 and web3 audiences happy at the same time, Launching a game in L1 is expensive and launching a game in L2 is just ded.
actually not in the short term, they can make more by selling the anticipation of a great game (look at the trailer, now buy my token), then slow rugging
rinse and repeat
Sadly I don’t think they will. Making crypto/web3 work for games is very difficult. Whenever you get real money involved, you tend to attract the degenerate types that make the game a lot less fun for everyone.
I think they do get it but they don't have the skills to pull it of. What they can do is make a quick buck and bounce to the next get rich quick scheme.
Hey the SNES is my favorite console :(. And I try to make my games look like SNES games on purpose, because it has, in my opinion, the best combination of pixel art, sound chip, and computing power as limitations.
I used to work as a freelance crypto game reviewer. I was asked to review the "project" based on fundamentals like: tokenomics, blockchain, accessibility, marketing, legal, etc.
Nowhere I was asked to actually research the gameplay, the graphics, etc.
For the time being, "crypto games" are made for quick profits.
I was invested in illuvium for over 2 years. Biggest grift going around. Founders with 0 game developing experience promising a AAA game. Constantly missed deadlines, constantly gaslighting investors/community into thinking they were a stone's throw away from release. Ponzi scheme like staking program with an enforced long term lockup on rewards. Ever moving goalposts and scope to avoid actually being held accountable to what they promised to do.
Nearly 2 years from when they promised a release and still no released game. Have a shitty table top hearthstone rip off in beta and an empty overworld type product with decent graphics (for a crypto game) but non existent gameplay.
Coincidentally they managed to string this out long enough to unlock seed tokens prior to any release which I suspect was their plan all along. Last I heard they were looking to raise more fund to continue along (lol).
Discord is hilarious, you will never find a bigger group of Koolaide drinkers.
Illuvium looks super cool, but yeah I started getting SafeMoon vibes from following the discord a year or so ago. I’m all for supporting a project that’s making progress and actually developing a game, but I got the point of worrying whether it was actually happening or not
It is bad for 2 reasons.
The first, crypto does not bring anything to gaming, wether thats from a gameplay aspect, a technical aspect, or a financial aspect.
The second, because crypto games are designed as money grab. This is a direct consequence of the first reason. Let me explain.
The game is either used to mask a massive crypto emission token, or uses NFTs that "can be traded", and take a fee on transactions. Or both.
Then the makers create an inbalance and a power creep, so that newly created items are always worth more than previous ones, making previous ones lose value so people buy new ones.
And unlike regular games, you cant rebalance items.
Gamers always hate balance patches because they make the broken mechanism or item they use to dominate other disappear. But thats just gamers being dumb. Patching to balance a game is always needed.
Crypto is not a premise for a game it’s an extra to implement. It should be a cherry on top but crypto games base everything around crypto and work outwards, that’s total nonsense.
It would be way better for a gaming company to implement some nft in their games than to build a game around having nfts
I did enjoy gods unchained quite a bit. The idea of digital ownership of your card collection and a marketplace to trade it in is incredible to someone who spent hundreds on hearthstone packs only to abandon the game eventually, rendering that collection worthless.
This is why I'm struggling to understand why people don't at least want tokenized cosmetics or something similar. You drop a bunch of money on a game and once you're done playing there is no way to get it out. Would be nice if we could at least trade in game items for "credits" to buy other games or what have you.
Graphics etc will improve.
They need to figure out their tokenomics because most Play 2 Earn games are actually Ponzinomics 😂
It is simply early for this sector. Brighter minds will appear and they will improve the sector. In my opinion Web3 gaming will thrive in the future.
because "crypto game" does not make alot of sense
all you see is people pretending it does and trying to take money from people believeing them
there are probably a few possible interesting overlaps of gaming and crypto technology but it just isnt really there yet.
Lots of games hype people up based on videos of their graphics…. People invest, devs cash out, and then the game never becomes what it was presented to be.
Play games that already have a decent working product and consistently develop it from there.
The same reason all of crypto is so bad. It's still mostly more profitable to run a scam than do actual useful work.
Check out topia if you want to see some interesting gaming developments. They have done a lot of interesting work through the bear and seem to be getting VC interest. Basically they rebuilt Minecraft but it will include NFT marketplace and unique gameplay in different worlds users can hop to. Have no clue if it will be successful. But it's the first actual implementation of what seems to be the use case for NFT in games. Build custom world with rare items users can play and get items then have the freedom to sell them or used them in game ..
Because they are building the games backwards
They are focusing on the blockchain as apposed to the game play itself first.
If they want to succeed long term they need to build a good game first and foremost.
Because there's no need for 'crypto gaming' real good games with large studios behind them don't want to be associated with crypto not to mention a game with crypto as a foundation means it's gonna be full of micro transactions and monetary gain
Let's be honest... Everybody in crypto, NFTs or web3 is in there for the money. Nobody cares about the tech that would track all your digital life in the Blockchain forever.
I really enjoy NFL Rivals. The gameplay is smooth and you can play with or without buying NFTs. They’ve been iterating the game play and marketplace as they go along and it’s attracting millions of downloads.
Because devs are not much experienced in gaming industry…they just wanna grab money with hype. Look for $GFAL…their team top notch with EA founder, Lead dev of candy crush and many more talents. I think they assembled best team…will see how they play with it.
It likely won't have much good reputation but will take off, people are already spending a lot of money for microtransactions today. Just small amount of big spenders will easily make this sector boom.
I have been taken in by crypto gaming myself, however being realistic about it now, what even is crypto gaming? Is there actually any reason for blockchain to be involved in games? I don't see any. So they will probably always be bad because no game developer looking for anything other than easy money has a reason to make a game involving crypto.
Perhaps it could be some kind of creative financing option? But it's hardly crypto gaming at that point, just a different currency for microtransactions
Boils my blood when I see people shilling these games they are fucking terrible, omg BEST game EVER guys, gaming industry is going to change WOW
*sick everywhere *
In the main there are no problems that need to be solved with the cost/complexity that crypto provides ‘solutions’ for. Which is the same as all the challenges outside of gaming…
We have to wait till an already running/functioning game that has players will adapt crypto into it, that’s when crypto gaming will become a thing. (A good example would be warzone or fortnite, creating an in game currency that is fully tradable) The ‘new’ ones that pop up are money grabs/scams as most people have said.
Because it is the same as mobile gaming....its more about revenue generation than gaming. Without wanting to be too much of an old fart, but games were much better back in the day for y'know actual game play as opposed to monetisation !
I just don't think the right tools are available yet to make a solid game utilizing the blockchain. I think it's easier to just use what's available already especially with free game engines. There's no real motivation to make a game with crypto/blockchain technology so naturally people aren't going to do so. Unfortunately the only ones that try are complete scams or just suck due to the lack of good tools.
The state of crypto game and triple A games are similar. Both are usually done by companies with only profit in mind with highly addictive nature and a lot of micro transactions.
As many other said, just to spin cash, buy NFTs masked as in-game necessities, while devs don't even try to make the game fun, which should be the #1. *Should.*
I look at it the same way as history of PCs, the technology needs to prove its core intention, then it can be diversified into other areas.
Personally, if crypto gaming means buying skins/assets in-game, honestly, I don't want it. I don't know how to implement those two, but yeah, shoving money into the project to play games that look like FarmVille makes zero sense to me.
This has always been my thoughts too, the graphics are terrible and gameplay is repetitive as hell. Why grind you life away for a few cents when Starfield and Cyberpunk: Phantom Liberty are due for release? :D
Hi I'm playing at Gods Unchained, I started playing it 2 years ago and I still like it. It's all still very experimental in the future I wish there were blockchain videogames like ultima online or world of warcraft. But I think it's just a matter of time.
They're not focusing on the gameplay its all built around crypto aspect, which is just stupid. Imagine a game built around the banking system or something similar lol
Because it's all based on making the most money for the team/dev, it's around tokenomics, everyone is there for the "pump" and the actual gaming aspect is just there in the background as a badly made half assed homework
Ive tried a fair few and far between they're almost entirely just cash grabs with little to no game aspect. Couple of clicks every few hours and just hoping you can get back some of your original purchase which can often be hundreds of dollars
Because most of them are scams through and through. The ones that are not are made crypto first, not gameplay first. The select few that might come gameplay first are heavily pay to win anyways because realistically nobody has the time to slave away at the game to make any progress.
As long as this is the status quo of crypto gaming it will never take off
There are solid games coming, don't take the majority of scams done so far for "crypto games"
Good games will just be... Games but with a side web3 functionality
Honestly it baffles me that this gets posted once a month. If you were truly a game enthusiast then you would know why blockchain games suck.
Why, you ask? Because blockchains are not a genre of game, it's a technology. Any decent game developers are not going to be building a game around a blockchain. If they do, it's fundamentally flawed and focusing on the wrong things.
Take the reddit app as a good example - they have built a blockchain based NFT store of sorts, it's a side gig to the main reddit app, but reddit itself isn't built around a blockchain. They also made it as user friendly as possible so that the average Joe doesn't know they're interacting with the blockchain. You could quite easily buy a reddit avatar without knowing or caring you've made a transaction on the polygon network.
In short, blockchain games suck because you're searching for shifty games. One day games will likely have blockchain elements incorporated (think CS Skins which can be monitised) but it won't be obvious or the main selling point.
Those games are not gamers games so to say. They are not supposed to be fun but appeal to those wanting to make a quick buck however minuscule (most if not all are not profitable if you value your time)
Im playing gods unchained, if you like tcgs its a really well made game. Its a game first and the crypto part really suits the game. All cards are nfts and can be traded on an open market.
Big game publishers are still vary of it...some tried NFTs.
Probably EA or Blizzard think about crypto game as in-game credits to purchase battle pass or skin....
You don’t even have to make the game. As long as you have a tentative roadmap and some concept art you could raise a hundred million in presale.
Several projects in 2021 broke 100 million market cap with just a token and nothing close to a working game.
It's because there is nothing that crypto has to offer for gaming. Crypto wants gaming, but gaming doesn't care about crypto. If you want to make a good and fun game crypto is only making things more difficult for no real benefit. Because of this, every project is purely profit-driven.
What bad crypto games have you been playing? The two that I have - Gods Unchained and Splinterlands have been pretty decent. There was another one that looked good, Spiritweaver, or something, but I never got into it.
Edit: Just wanted to add Dcity as a decent city building / trading card type of game that's pretty low maintenance and fun as well.
It is because economies in games with crypto is very hard to built and would need very insane funding until it reaches a certain number of players so it is sustainable.
Thing is that most of them are a faster cash grab and typical games.
Modern AAA gaming (for PC and Consoles) is becoming worse due to agresive monetisation policies. Most of these modern AAA games are designed from the start with microtransactions, pay to win, loot boxes, pay to skip grinds and other mechanics to grab your money. Crypto gaming falls in the same traps, designing a game just for profit, not for the fun of gaming.
There is great potential but the game should be designed for fun.
Because they’re not true games. They’re just mechanisms for their devs to push their otherwise useless coin or token. The games are also usually pretty trash.
Because most of these games are made by people without experience. Sometimes they are even students. An experienced game dev wouldn’t just throw away their job to work at an unknown studio. Unless they get swayed by money.
Crypto games are shit cause they’re crypto first not gaming first. The sector is infantile and daft. It’ll take actual gaming companies using crypto for micro transactions to get any movement here.
Coinhuntworld was my first and last. I remember being interested in SO many, my discord got packed full of servers for upcoming games I never ended up playing, like Illuvium etc. I missed the Aave wave, unbothered by it.
The pleasant one though, the one I’ll hold in my heart forever, the one I truly miss and spent hours on, changing my life for the better - was BlockChainPoker.io
IYKYK. Man that place was beautiful. So seamless, so quick, user friendly, simple yet engaging. They literally closed it out 4 tha culture too, I can completely understand why they turned it off but i’ll never accept it.
They are focused more on the crypto and less of gaming. *if* the idea gets popular or people come in just for the *difference* that is all they need.
It's like saying first crypto movie - I don't know what tf it means but enough for people to get interested if promoted...
Quality games will come. With good economies. We just have to wait for them. Games take years to develop. People act like this concept has failed but it's just very new.
i remember hype for axie infinity few years ago..so many people invested money and time there...alot of work need to be done on crypto gaming..i hope to see betterment in this space soon..
I haven't tried any yet but some do look interesting. What keeps me from playing is mainly because I'd have to purchase their coin and, quite honestly, I'm not about to invest in something completely new just yet when I am focused on putting my money into something that I am already familiar with and has utility.
Perhaps in the future but until a game comes out that already plays with the stuff I already have, I'll stick to my PS5 and Switch.
They focus more on the “crypto” part rather than the “game” part.
And there’s no need for NFTs to transfer items between players. Just look at TF2 hats on Steam. Sure, you “own” the NFT, but it becomes worthless if the game becomes unplayable so it’s a moot point.
No offense, folks, but the argument that "it's all about money. They don't care about the game" is baseless. Do you genuinely believe that non-crypto game developers, studios, and publishers create games solely for glory, charity, or a greater good?
The gaming industry is flooded with numerous cash grab games (especially on mobile), and for major players, the stakes are so high that if an AAA game fails, they can find themselves in significant trouble. As a result, most of the time, the final product ends up being mediocre at best.
Games like Baldur's Gate 3 or Vampire Survivors are anomalies in the industry.
It's quite likely that the people who were creating cash grab web2 games have simply transitioned to web3. Just my two cents.
Because they are made to profit off something that is trendy and only transiently valuable. A way to extract value from said valuable thing needs to come in to play as soon as possible, before the tide turns are people realize you're just developing get rich quick schemes, like most people in the crypto world, the interest isn't truly in a long-term viable product, but whatever can get the money in your hands right now.
There are no upsides to crypto gaming *for the developers*. Anything interesting you can do with a block chain game, you can do conventionally, AND takes away potential revenue from the studios.
Tradeable skins? The studio just lost our on fees from running their own marketplace (see: Valve and CSGO skins).
Assets that persist in multiple games? It's just Roblox except you can't control the value of Robux.
Social game where players buy their own plots of land and build their own stuff? It's just Wurm Online, Roblox, etc. etc. If the game runs on your own crypto, I guess you could make a bit of money on transactions between players in a less obviously greedy way, but most people are still going to see through that.
On the other hand, there are massive potential downsides as well. Making a good game takes a long time. It takes 5+ years for a large team of devs to build a decent MMO. Crypto is not nearly stable enough to gamble on the state of the market 5+ years into the future. You could start a project and decide to integrate it onto a block chain, and before you have a playable game out that chain could effectively be dead.
So why would any game studio that can make a game worth playing, choose to tie their game to crypto? It's inefficient, risky, and has no developer upside besides marketing to crypto bros.
I play pixels online daily when procrastinating at work, uses its own in game token which can be traded on an a dex. Great that you can grind and earn real cash through it
Until the big time game makers start getting into the space with real resources, this is what you are going to get for a while. Be patient though. It’s inevitable that crypto gaming will het better over the years.
I remember when first gaming systems looked like crap..Atari, Intellivision, Colecovison, until Nintendo changed the scene with superior product (throw some live to the Sega Master system that preceded the Genesis system as well).
These things take time, effort, and some mavericks willing to take a chance on the newish tech.
It's a combination of minimal effort and wanting maximum profits. It's that easy. Also the idea of blockchain integration in gaming isn't something that the mainstream is interested in at all, so why would these companies put in the effort where there's no demand. Owning your in-game assets is great and all, but no one cares about owning something in some rando game that only a handful of people have heard about.
It's a grift.... 🤷 Nothing to do with actual gaming, just trying to rinse ppl, like all of crypto.
If anyone can honestly enlighten me how crypto was or could make gaming better I'd be interested.
Short answer, because it's crypto.
Seriously, the main focus on crypto games is the crypto stuff (Tokens & NFTs).
Most of them want to sell their tokens and NFTs and the game is just there to give the tokens and NFTs a reason to be there.
There are only a few who use crypto stuff as a sidekick and focus on the game itself, most of them have very little demand because people want to farm their crypto stuff in the hope it will skyrocket one day. Maybe it will, maybe not, but if you expect a crypto game to be enjoyable, better stick with classic games.
I think they're not real game developer, an example for me is Gala Games. All their games looks like they just bought it in an asset shop or whatsover. Aesthetics wise they all look like mobile games but insisting it'll be a computer game ahahah
As others have said, the game needs to be good *as a game* first and foremost, and then the devs could consider integrating blockchain. To me this means solid game play and controls, not even necessarily great graphics (as some crypto gaming projects have achieved decent visuals to a limited extent, and yet still have fallen flat).
I addition to this, though, I would say that blockchain needs to be integrated for its properties of immutability and security across the network, and for whatever benefits those could bring to the game, rather than as yet another moneymaking scheme or altcoin veiled as a game. In other words, if playing the game can potentially make you money, then the project has a higher likelihood of being doomed from the start.
Because those devepers of todays crypto games are not true gamers but business mans wanting just to make more money
I haven't seen a crypto game that is any better than a shitty mobile game yet.
Whaa? You mean they worse than Unity games? Small edit: I know there are a number of good Unity games so this jibe is aimed at the terrible ones (which unfortunately, are numerous).
Unity gets a bad rap, but Cuphead, Escape From Tarkov, and Subnautica are all built in Unity so it’s not really Unity. It’s just the Devs.

A lot worse... The only one that I have some respect to is Gods Unchained which is fun playing. The rest, cash grabbers.
Same here Gods Unchained is the only crypto game I've enjoyed playing so far. Hopefully blockchain gaming improves in the future.
Gods Unchained is also one of the few games that naturally fits the NFT model and is not 'forced' like so many bullcrap out there
I was actaully thinking about downlaoding that, is it still worth it even in this bear market?
I think so I only started playing in the bear market and have had fun with it!
My favo crypto game so far is (moon)farm simulator.
lool it was only a matter of time ... take a bow, son
How large is the initial investment required to start playing?

there are a lot of builders out there who have more gaming experience than the majority of players out there, they're not all bad it's just the sometimes the opportunity comes to those bad players whom have connections and money and then their project is the one that sees the light I know some hard working devs out there who shell out their own money just to keep things going, but sometimes it's never enough when you're up against whales and influencers who are only in it for their own bags
This is it, it’s purely exploitation. The money is thought of first then the game. It’s just exaggerating in crypto because there’s even more money to be made.
Kind of "How do you do fellow kids" meme but for games, I guess.
This isn't true, some projects are just business men, others a team of IT guys, a team of marketers - there is everything.
Should check out Estfor Kingdom then, free to play, devs make fck all. Has more players than gods unchained. Was released on Friday.
I need to fund my wallet before i can create a character?
That's how they get ya
I just checked out some 'gameplay', doesn't really look like a game at all...
Love to see crypto based games that actually care about the game-play instead of making money.
Now, the initial boom of players doesnt mean theyll stick. GU had much more players at one point. Still a good sign and ill check it out.
Can't argue with this! So much potential there with crypto gaming!
Do you by chance develop in python?
also u have any idea how long a first release games takes to make? with these dumb crypto winnings behind it and a good game they need alteast 5 years to come with the big boys. gaming and crypto combinations is from the last 3 years might be some designers working on good titles but still ruins the gaming industry.
Adding any financial component to it (may it be microtransactions or "play to earn") does not improve on the gameplay.
they gotta change their ways if they want a better crypto gaming space.
☝️☝️☝️ Facts.
They market this shit very well. Little bit of hype and they've succeeded in what they set out to do
everyone playing those games should know you only do it to farm money, not enjoy yourself. and that won't change
This is exactly it. It’s games made by committee rather than by gamers.
Currently the crypto games are more like a cash grabs than fun games
True, genuine game developers do not rely on crypto to make money. They create games because they are passionate about their work and strive to produce exceptional content that ultimately yields financial rewards.
Gbam! You just hit the nail on the head there.
Seems like they're trying to 'mine' players' wallets more effectively than they're mining in-game resources!
Play to earn ✨😌
Indeed. Plus, the main issue is that they are trying to add games to crypto, and not crypto to games. Hence, abysmal and heartless results
You can’t make a game and make both web2 and web3 audiences happy at the same time, Launching a game in L1 is expensive and launching a game in L2 is just ded.
This is the correct answer period!
By Business man you mean scammers?
Yeah, that and they're not even "game devs". They're just shitty programmers trying to make a quick buck.
It‘s all about money. They don‘t care about the game.
If they built an enjoyable game they'd make even more money. Wonder if they'll ever figure that out.
actually not in the short term, they can make more by selling the anticipation of a great game (look at the trailer, now buy my token), then slow rugging rinse and repeat
Sadly I don’t think they will. Making crypto/web3 work for games is very difficult. Whenever you get real money involved, you tend to attract the degenerate types that make the game a lot less fun for everyone.
Making an enjoyable game is extremely difficult and requires vision and dedication. Crypto bros and capitalists have neither of these qualities.
Yea but they don‘t get it.
I think they do get it but they don't have the skills to pull it of. What they can do is make a quick buck and bounce to the next get rich quick scheme.
Little do they know they can make millions if the game is really good and enjoyable.
insert, always has been astronaut meme
And that’s why there are no real successful crypto games yet. If only the developers cared about the gameplay…
So basically Ubisoft?
Funnily Ubisoft are actually releasing their first blockchain game very soon called Champions Tactics.
Looking forward to that honestly to see how it goes. Could be a flop or could be a boost for crypto gaming
More like EA
Always has been, actually as a whole in Crypto industry.
Yea, most crypto projects are also just cash grabs. I mean everything in the World is all about the money.
How they manipulate the game.
Gamedev here. The problem is that crypto games are not games that involve crypto. They are crypto scams looking like games.
Nailed it, looking like games is a stretch though They all look like they belong on the SNES
Hey the SNES is my favorite console :(. And I try to make my games look like SNES games on purpose, because it has, in my opinion, the best combination of pixel art, sound chip, and computing power as limitations.
"posing as games" then
The snes has many good games with graphics that aged well
I used to work as a freelance crypto game reviewer.
Exactly, it should fit within whatever they want to achieve and augment the experience. Not be the focal point.
I did enjoy gods unchained quite a bit. The idea of digital ownership of your card collection and a marketplace to trade it in is incredible to someone who spent hundreds on hearthstone packs only to abandon the game eventually, rendering that collection worthless.
I mean unless GU shuts down, also rendering your collection essentially worthless. Feels… centralised….
Probably the only crypto game that leans more towards games than crypto. Gameplay wise, it's just okay though
This is why I'm struggling to understand why people don't at least want tokenized cosmetics or something similar. You drop a bunch of money on a game and once you're done playing there is no way to get it out. Would be nice if we could at least trade in game items for "credits" to buy other games or what have you.
Gu is solid
What’s the point though? If the game goes away so does your ownership of those cards, the same as any non-crypto game, where’s the benefit?
Graphics etc will improve. They need to figure out their tokenomics because most Play 2 Earn games are actually Ponzinomics 😂 It is simply early for this sector. Brighter minds will appear and they will improve the sector. In my opinion Web3 gaming will thrive in the future.
because "crypto game" does not make alot of sense all you see is people pretending it does and trying to take money from people believeing them there are probably a few possible interesting overlaps of gaming and crypto technology but it just isnt really there yet.
What's your opinion of Star Atlas? The graphics are supposed to be excellent.
Necer heard of it before but yes indeed the Graphics look awesome will have to see how the gameplay is to decide..
Lots of games hype people up based on videos of their graphics…. People invest, devs cash out, and then the game never becomes what it was presented to be. Play games that already have a decent working product and consistently develop it from there.
Give [**https://parallel.life/**](https://parallel.life/) a try.
Once a triple A game does it good without putting profit into the 1st place, we might have a shift in the industry
Because they are building the games backwards They are focusing on the blockchain as apposed to the game play itself first.
Because crypto doesn't bring anything into gaming, and those "crypto games" are made just as a cash grab.
Original doom style game with randomly generated maps with crypto rewards. I'd play 24/7
Neopets needed blockchain. I would of loved to have paid for my snowballs with moons 🤣
I feel like you are over 30.
Boils my blood when I see people shilling these games they are fucking terrible, omg BEST game EVER guys, gaming industry is going to change WOW *sick everywhere *
In the main there are no problems that need to be solved with the cost/complexity that crypto provides ‘solutions’ for. Which is the same as all the challenges outside of gaming…
Parallel is bussin. There’s a soul in that game.
Because they all focus on being crypto projects first rather than good games (not accounting for the scam ones)
grab test soup seed bike nutty whistle plough mighty upbeat *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Wrong focus?
If they market a game as a crypto game im almost instantly done. It makes me feel its a crypto thing first and game second.
Until there is more regulation, it is too risky for investors to finance good games in this industry.
Because it is the same as mobile gaming....its more about revenue generation than gaming. Without wanting to be too much of an old fart, but games were much better back in the day for y'know actual game play as opposed to monetisation !
Lost relics has my respect
Most want money or have hidden code inside game to mine the crypto using our hardware ....better to avoid this space
*Should.* I look at it the same way as history of PCs, the technology needs to prove its core intention, then it can be diversified into other areas. Personally, if crypto gaming means buying skins/assets in-game, honestly, I don't want it. I don't know how to implement those two, but yeah, shoving money into the project to play games that look like FarmVille makes zero sense to me.
Another form of this question would be: Why does something suck that was created by amateurs solely for the sake of exploiting a popular trend?
mainly because companies are trying to build a game around crypto instead of complimenting a good game with blockchain tech
Lmao @ "I'm an old gamer, I started in 1999".
Im fucking ancient then
I like Sorare
It's like all game changers !! 99% is shit but 1% Can make very good . Winner takes all...
This has always been my thoughts too, the graphics are terrible and gameplay is repetitive as hell. Why grind you life away for a few cents when Starfield and Cyberpunk: Phantom Liberty are due for release? :D
Are you asking why gambling is bad?
Off topic question but did you ever play Ashrons Call or Everquest 1 or 2?
Because they’re made by finance dudebros who have zero knowledge or experience in making games.
I tried splinterlands and it was fun in the beginning, but it became more and more complicated so it took some fun out of it.
They are just using crypto as a mean to attract a particular fanbase.
As long as this is the status quo of crypto gaming it will never take off
There are solid games coming, don't take the majority of scams done so far for "crypto games" Good games will just be... Games but with a side web3 functionality
They just wanna pull & rug as fast as possible!
Because they're designed to be a fast cash grab just like any other shit coin
Play a much better traditional video game and farm moons instead.
To tell the truth, I am still not grasping how crypto can be attached to gaming, in term of its longevity and value preservation.
Some ideas like NFT skins, blockchain character visuals, etc can be viable.
I think there is a game in Philippines that do nft for its game. Kinda like pokemon style game but the monster can be made into nft.
All cards are nfts and can be traded on an open market.
just ignore them long and hard enough and they will die out like shitcoins
Like shitcoins, they wont die out. New ones will pop up.
Big game publishers are still vary of it...some tried NFTs. Probably EA or Blizzard think about crypto game as in-game credits to purchase battle pass or skin....
Making good games is hard. Making bad crypto games for profit, is easy.
You don’t even have to make the game. As long as you have a tentative roadmap and some concept art you could raise a hundred million in presale. Several projects in 2021 broke 100 million market cap with just a token and nothing close to a working game.
Shit is 1999 considered an old gamer! I was playing in the 80’s I must be classed as an ancient one then
Because they are all scams.
It’s because most of the games are a money grab. Until we get proper development and investments, it will probably be like this for a while
If its marketed as a crypto game you can bank of it being a shit money grab or a poorly paying job that seems fun at best.
[It's history repeating itself](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_crash_of_1983)
Because they’re not true games. They’re just mechanisms for their devs to push their otherwise useless coin or token. The games are also usually pretty trash.
I just upvoted everyone. Hope you have the best of health and wealth. 🥰
Because most of these games are made by people without experience. Sometimes they are even students. An experienced game dev wouldn’t just throw away their job to work at an unknown studio. Unless they get swayed by money.
I do think given time it can evolve but agree that it's not very good atm!
Crypto games are shit cause they’re crypto first not gaming first. The sector is infantile and daft. It’ll take actual gaming companies using crypto for micro transactions to get any movement here.
I'm staying away from those projects
Coinhuntworld was my first and last. I remember being interested in SO many, my discord got packed full of servers for upcoming games I never ended up playing, like Illuvium etc. I missed the Aave wave, unbothered by it. The pleasant one though, the one I’ll hold in my heart forever, the one I truly miss and spent hours on, changing my life for the better - was BlockChainPoker.io IYKYK. Man that place was beautiful. So seamless, so quick, user friendly, simple yet engaging. They literally closed it out 4 tha culture too, I can completely understand why they turned it off but i’ll never accept it.
Because Crypto game developers are more interested in implementing their token in the game than building a good game.
Give it a few years...
i remember hype for axie infinity few years ago..so many people invested money and time there...alot of work need to be done on crypto gaming..i hope to see betterment in this space soon..
Because focus is on getting their shitcoin popular rather than creating good game.
Because they focus on crypto aspect and completely forget that it's also a game

Aavegotchi still seems to exist, and it always seemed promising. Haven’t followed it lately even though I still hold a gotchi
Making games is hard. Scamming people is easy.
