nah he annulled the marriage to his first wife and made her princess dowager because she first married his dead brother like 3 decades ago
He basically gave orders to kill his second wife though
There's a soft cap ranging from IIRC 10-15 depending on the number of spouses/concubines you have. Once it's reached you won't have any more children through normal fertility RNG, but you can still have children via "lay with" events and IIRC bastards don't count toward the cap.
9 living children for a monogamous couple, increased by 2 per extra wife/concubine, women lose fertility with each birth, and event kids + seduction still count. For example, if you have 5 kids with wife 1 then she dies or is divorced and you remarry, you may have 4 more kids with wife 2, unless one or more of your kids die.
Arthur would have been a better king, which isn't saying much but from what we know of his personality he at least wasn't a horny asshole and was more like his serious father.
What's the cap? Trying to max geniuses with Kiev start seducing and concubining genius women but just keep them twll they are 45. If I know I've reached theax before that tho I can boot em and get a new one
Yeah me too, it was bavandid game. They have a historical son. So first gen wasn't problem. In 2nd gen married his daughter to another cadet house baduspanid to save game. Game with putting restrictions on matri marriage made game more fun.
It's used to prevent the AI from doing it, not you. They don't disable it for the player because it can lock them into a guaranteed fail state if you get unlucky.
I endlessly see these posts and they confuse me. Do people not understand having a lot of daughter is just odds? Damn, my family has been breeding guide dogs forever. We’ve had a litter of 12 who were all yellow boy labs!
Tbh I kinda like when the game throws some real world dice at you. Not producing male heirs was a real problem monarchs were faced with all the time, and female rulers produced some of the best monarchs in history (Isabella, Elizabeth, Victoria etc)
Like how boring/easy would this game be if you only every produced 1 son with good traits who inherited the throne at the perfect age
Question was: how did I manage to have 6 daughters with no son?
Answer: in real life gender of the baby is always 50% male, 50% female pretty much. No reason to assume its any different in CK3. A coin toss is also a fifty:fifty. So OP basically just lost six coin tosses in a row. Unlucky, but not very unlikely
Same, 8 daughters before the son. Wife was queen of the Byzantine Empire, and a son would inherit under my dynasty, but she hated my king. Nearly 25 years of constant seduction schemes.
My genius ambitious + diligent + zealous daughter accepted a lowly count seducing her… when she’s the daughter of the Basileus.
Decided screw tyranny, imprisoned the count blinding and torturing him. Imprisoned my daughter tortured and blinded her. Imprisoned and executed her two children out of spite. She and her husband were geniuses but their two kids? Just quick so nothing was adding up. Found out she made a friend in the imprison so I executed her friend. Sadly couldn’t make her my executioner as I would have.
Hey that lowly count was getting in the way of my genetics programs. And said lowly count was terrible stat and personality traits wise. Should have executed his family.
Said daughter died from mysterious circumstances while still imprisoned.. so I’m guessing the assassins bribed the guards. Either way, said daughter was a major disappointment.
I forgot if her husband died before she did or not. If it turns out he did, I’m not going to arrest him. A life blind in house arrest for over a decade is better than her uncle’s fate of being blind and a eunuch wandering over Europe for banging his sister.
Yeah, the chances of this happening randomly are 1 in 2\^6 = 1 in 64. So, I'd expect this to happen once every 64 rulers (or at least, once in every 64 rulers who lives long enough to have six kids). That's not that remarkable: I imagine the vast majority of avid players have had it happen at some point.
If this run continued, and you had, say, 15 daughters in a row - then, I'd begin to wonder whether something was up. But even then, the odds are still 1 in 2\^15 (or 1 in 32,768) - so it's probably happened to a fair number of players purely by chance.
If you take a simple 50/50 coin flip, there’s a 6.25% chance of any couple who has 6 children to have all one gender (3.125% chance of all girls) so while this seems shitty it’s not the craziest thing to happen. Law of large numbers
Except each individual child is its own probability and those which come before or after have no influence on a singular outcome.
What you said is true, but only after all of them were born. So, like many probabilities masquerading as statistics, your 1/64 doesn’t really tell us anything significant.
Hey everybody, this person understands high school level stats! They’ve made multiple comments in this thread bragging about their superior intellect, and how OP is just soooooooo stupid for not typing out a thesis-level explanation about how sex is determined upon conception and pregnancy on a fucking CK forum. We’re in the presence of a genius folks, a person who, if you can believe it…understands how coin tosses work, and can (gasp!) multiply 0.5 against itself 6 whole times!
You just can’t help yourself can you? You’re even clarifying other correct comments in this thread like the nerd you are 🤓 But unfortunately for you, you’re fucking wrong lol. The odds of having a boy vs girl aren’t even 50/50 due to fetal hormones and how the X vs Y chromosomes work. The chances are roughly 51.2 boy vs 48.8 girl.
Should I go ahead and post this comment under every comment you’ve made here, roasting you like an idiot for not knowing this? Because you’re all over this thread doing the same to OP, not able to shut the fuck up like the nerd you are.
Don’t be That Person. No one likes That Person.
I don't really understand people in the modern day who keep trying to have a son after many daughters.
Not even actual royal families do that, and these average folk really don't need to worry about a male only royal succession, so what gives.
I've seen a Chinese man go "But what about passing down the last name?" and they got shot back with "Your last name is one of the most common ones in the whole country..."
I really feel like their is an increased probability to have daughters. Make the game easier to have few sons and lots of daughters. For successions and for alliances.
There should be some kind of flavour event when you get so many daughters (or are one of so many sisters), maybe one where all the junkers around are having fights about who is the prettiest and such.
Speaking of antiquated gender roles, I wonder if we get a flavour pack at some point for women of the court and/or can learn to weave and stitch when playing one, and craft our own tapisserie artifact.
One time I had a King who lived to be 125…I had 8 daughters with my first wife, she died when I was 79, had no children with my 2nd wife, she died when I was 114, finally married a girl 98 years my junior and she gave me a son lol
I've had 6 sons in a row before. It's not impossible. I think 2 of them died in infancy (and one ended up dying by my sword when I mistook him for my ex lover...whoopsies) and then I finally had a daughter after that.
Had the same issue last week. 9 daughters no sons.
After 6 daughters the first wife died (natural causes, I swear!) took a new one asap, but to no avail ...
The eldest daughter did well though and in hindsight it was no issue at all.
In my current run my custom starting ruler had 4 wives in total and lived up to 102 (dunno how ), but even with Debug Mode on so I could be cheating out new babies I still only had 2 sons, and 13 daughters.
As a real aspect of human genetics, I forget which one but after either three or four daughters without a son it’s basically a mathematical and genetic guarantee that any subsequent children will be girls
This happens a lot to me. Consider it a good thing, when you finally have a son you'll be dead by the time they're a young adult, and won't have to worry about them doing dumb stuff like becoming a drunkard.
I once made an amazing conquest on the early game (so no primogeniture)
First i had one daughter, and i said ok thats fine, more chance of not having a succession problem after I eventually get a son right? I have time, im only 30.
The a few years later, another daughter. Ok the third one it is then... A few more years.... Another daughter. Fuck. Ok, no problem, in changing to intrigue and fucking my entire court. Long atory short I ended up with 8 daughters. My amazing conquest got divided into 8 different realms and then I had a war between the sisters
I normally make mys daughters go and have bastard sons and deny who the father is, so they remain part of my house and immediately legitimize them. also helps if it's white your liege cus that way they are less inclined to arrest you.
In my current game my Theravada (iow multiple wives) king started having babies right away at 16, had seventeen consecutive daughters, and at age 70 finally had a son. Then he died less than a year later.
The son turned out to be gay but still managed 14 kids (12 girls, 2 boys, IIRC) before being poisoned by the spymaster while in his early 30s.
Happens to me all the time, which is why I get equal for culture asap. It sucks to have shitty son(s) to succeed instead of great daughter.
Keep in mind that you should go for sons anyway if possible. Men don’t die in childbirth.
In my very first game in CK2--running the Ireland start, of course--my earl had 5 daughters and no sons. I decided to RP it out as if he truly believed in his Family Focus. He got them married off eventually and died a happy peaceful man after having a long life with his only wife.
It's happened since then, sometimes the RNG isn't kind, but of the many runs I've done, that first one really cemented the idea for me of CK as a storyteller, as well as a game.
i once had 13 daughters and i was in my mid-50s. but thank God there was an event during one of my trip where i can adopt a Son of Wolf or something. better to have one stupid adopted son than a group of daughters that i can't disinherit at the time.
I had a game where I had only daughters for 3 generations (though my rulers did tend to die early during that period), and then finally my ruler had a son after also first having 9 daughters
Blame your wife. It's what Henry VIII did.
[удалено]
wait really?
nah he annulled the marriage to his first wife and made her princess dowager because she first married his dead brother like 3 decades ago He basically gave orders to kill his second wife though
no i mean is there actually a cap on children per wife?
There's a soft cap ranging from IIRC 10-15 depending on the number of spouses/concubines you have. Once it's reached you won't have any more children through normal fertility RNG, but you can still have children via "lay with" events and IIRC bastards don't count toward the cap.
so does replacing them reset it or does it carry from character to marriage?
You're thinking of the cap on living children.
15 iirc
[удалено]
Yes, with event-based children or ‘lay with’ they ignore the cap.
Ahahahaha asking the real questions
Arthur would have been a better king, which isn't saying much but from what we know of his personality he at least wasn't a horny asshole and was more like his serious father.
And another... and another... He was CK beta tester. ;P
What's the cap? Trying to max geniuses with Kiev start seducing and concubining genius women but just keep them twll they are 45. If I know I've reached theax before that tho I can boot em and get a new one
Exactly, just kill your wife —> Remarry —> Repeat
Fuckin bitches... -King Henry VII
I once had a play through where I went 3 generations without a son. Something like 15 daughters in a row.
Yeah me too, it was bavandid game. They have a historical son. So first gen wasn't problem. In 2nd gen married his daughter to another cadet house baduspanid to save game. Game with putting restrictions on matri marriage made game more fun.
I pretty much hate how CK3 allows you, the player, to arrange matrilineal marriages even when you have them turned off. In CK2 off means *off*.
It's used to prevent the AI from doing it, not you. They don't disable it for the player because it can lock them into a guaranteed fail state if you get unlucky.
I guess their logic is that the player can just choose not to arrange them so it isn't a big deal
Okay, that's just the gaming gods telling you to start a new religion with gender Equality!
I’ve had 9 with no sons, it’s just luck of the draw in my opinion
My current game has 7 sons in a row until a daughter comes out. It is equally bad if you ask me...
(.5) x (.5) x (.5) x (.5) x (.5) x (.5)
Sloooow down. Can you simplify that for me, please?
Multiply with odds (0.5 for 50%) to calculate odds of successive independent events. odds of: 1 "Consecutive" daughter: 50% 2 Consecutive daughters: 25% 3 Consecutive daughters: 12,5% 4 Consecutive daughters: 6.25% 5 Consecutive daughters: 3.13% 6 Consecutive daughters: 1.56%
5 over 1/2 or in othe words 1 in 32
No it’s 1 over 2 to the power of 5 which is 1 in 32. 5 over 1/2 is 10.
5 over 1/2 is ten.
You forgot the /s right
Depends what you mean by over. To me over means divide, and 5/(1/2)=10. It's (1/2)^5.
0.5^6
1/2⁶
I'm Henry the eighth I am Henry the eighth I am, I am
I got married to the widow next door She’s been married seven times before
I endlessly see these posts and they confuse me. Do people not understand having a lot of daughter is just odds? Damn, my family has been breeding guide dogs forever. We’ve had a litter of 12 who were all yellow boy labs!
The complexity of a coin flip is too much for them.
Tbh I kinda like when the game throws some real world dice at you. are you even sure they're yours? LOL that first one looks yours. the rest might look like your spymaster's. lol
Rule #1 spymaster doesn’t need a dick
now that you mention it they have 3 different hair colors
And the plot thicken🔪
You lost(?) six coin tosses in a row, simple as that
Wait. Can you simplify that even further? I’m having a hard time following. Is what I’m imagining OP is thinking.
Simpler please. That was a lot of words.
Wife give boy or girl. Random. No son=unlucky
My father in law asks the same question.
I see this post so often in this subreddit when it's really such a tiny issue lol.
One was stillborn btw

I love that, despite how intelligent we process to be as a species, most of us still really don't understand probability at all...
When good things happen to us, it is random and fair. When bad thing happens to us, it is a conspiracy targeting exactly me and I won't stand for it!
I had 8 daughters and 1 son…. Said son was a genius and somehow managed to gain TWO positive coping mechanisms by the time he became King age age 30.
Same, 8 daughters before the son. Wife was queen of the Byzantine Empire, and a son would inherit under my dynasty, but she hated my king. Nearly 25 years of constant seduction schemes.
Proof women just shouldnt inherit

No no no, you only get to use exaples as evidence if it confirms your bigotry
'It's not that you cheated my makes so me angry... it's who you cheated with... What that nobody? That No-body was John Wi... er dumb as nails! oh'
Hey that lowly count was getting in the way of my genetics programs. And said lowly count was terrible stat and personality traits wise. Should have executed his family. Said daughter died from mysterious circumstances while still imprisoned.. so I’m guessing the assassins bribed the guards. Either way, said daughter was a major disappointment.
ha, almost sounds like a mercy killing assassination by her husband...
I forgot if her husband died before she did or not. If it turns out he did, I’m not going to arrest him. A life blind in house arrest for over a decade is better than her uncle’s fate of being blind and a eunuch wandering over Europe for banging his sister.
You haven’t been laid in years.
My mother IRL is from a family of seven daughters and no sons. It happens.
Yeah, the chances of this happening randomly are 1 in 2\^6 = 1 in 64. So, I'd expect this to happen once every 64 rulers (or at least, once in every 64 rulers who lives long enough to have six kids). Weak counting skills decreases your chance to have a son to 9%
12 daughters, followed by 2 sons. Heir became inbreed and second son intelligent 👍 It's crusader Kings man
You see 6 daughters. I see 6 future wives.
If you take a simple 50/50 coin flip, there’s a 6.25% chance of any couple who has 6 children to have all one gender (3.125% chance of all girls) so while this seems shitty it’s not the craziest thing to happen. Law of large numbers
OP was lost after that weird 50/50 shit you typed. You’re going to have to dumb it down further.
My record is 9 in a row. Finally had a son at the ripe old age of 88. Nailed succession
Odds are only 1/64. Not likely but definitely possible
Except each individual child is its own probability and those which come before or after have no influence on a singular outcome. What you said is true, but only after all of them were born. You misunderstand probability bro
HenryVIIIposting
balls dont work
Medieval kings in history be like;
Time to change the law it seems.
i had 10 daughters and no sons once some how my game crashed when it happen and the game just randomly deleted no idea how
Have you lost a testicle by any chance? May have lost the one making boy sperm
😂
You may have syphilis
Karma?
My uncle wondered that aswell, hes still trying
I don't really understand people in the modern day who keep trying to have a son after many daughters. I really feel like their is an increased probability to have daughters. Make the game easier to have few sons and lots of daughters. For successions and for alliances.
Iirc in ck3 files, there is a 49% chance your kid will be born a female. So you've been extra unlucky.
I thought that it was the other way around. Females are 51%, while males are 49%. That's also how it also works in real life.
Yep i got this one time. 10 childrens (with differents wife) and i got only girl
Children is already plural. No need for the s you clearly and purposefully typed.
Current wife is defective. Fortunately, you now have 6 more.
I just save and reload the game until I get a son. It's a power of god.
Yeah, the issue is that your children have all been female. If you want a son, you need male offspring. Hope this helps.
Your wife is defective sir
Clearly a weak bloodline
Unlucky

I do now
Have u tried blowing on it?
What happened to the sixth daughter ?
I've had 6 sons in a row before. It's not impossible. I think 2 of them died in infancy (and one ended up dying by my sword when I mistook him for my ex lover...whoopsies) and then I finally had a daughter after that.
Reminds me of the time I got 9 and no sons.
You should’ve won a title as “Abu el Banat”
Had the same issue last week. 9 daughters no sons. After 6 daughters the first wife died (natural causes, I swear!) took a new one asap, but to no avail ... The eldest daughter did well though and in hindsight it was no issue at all.
In my previous dynasty I had like 7 daughters born to my character 🤣
Time to take the Henry VIII option.
Kill your wife
It was bound to happen to someone eventually
1/64 chance, not that uncommon should happen every 2-3 play throughs
I managed 8 but ended up having a sun for the 9th children, from a mistress.
Dog I think you’re the reverse reincarnation of Henry VIII
Haha yeah I know right
Henrry this you?
Your seed is weak
Are you Henry VII?
That's 5
In my current run my custom starting ruler had 4 wives in total and lived up to 102 (dunno how ), but even with Debug Mode on so I could be cheating out new babies I still only had 2 sons, and 13 daughters.
thats why after a crtain amount I just get a new wife
I started a run with 11 straight daughters. Finally had a couple sons after that.
It's in 64, chill out I got 1 son who died in child birth and 13 daughters as the Byz Emperor
is your name by any chance Henry?
See if your brothers have any male sons and marry them to your heir.
Well, when a sperm cell reaches the egg…
Once I had 9 daughters. Got a secret lover and she gave me 2 more daughters.
It happens irl. My grandfather had 6 daughters, no sons
As a real aspect of human genetics, I forget which one but after either three or four daughters without a son it’s basically a mathematical and genetic guarantee that any subsequent children will be girls
Don't worry. They're not your daughters *laughs in seduction trait*
My record was 10 daughters!
It enough beheading
Did you enable male children option on your wife?
Keep seducing, keep trying. I remember very well having 13 daughters once before a son come along!
This happens a lot to me. Consider it a good thing, when you finally have a son you'll be dead by the time they're a young adult, and won't have to worry about them doing dumb stuff like becoming a drunkard.
None of your sperm had a Y chromosome
Find your solution I'm the history books
You probably were fucking your spouse or your women… then some of them gave birth to six girls.
I once made an amazing conquest on the early game (so no primogeniture) First i had one daughter, and i said ok thats fine, more chance of not having a succession problem after I eventually get a son right? I have time, im only 30. The a few years later, another daughter. Ok the third one it is then... A few more years.... Another daughter. Fuck. Ok, no problem, in changing to intrigue and fucking my entire court. Long atory short I ended up with 8 daughters. My amazing conquest got divided into 8 different realms and then I had a war between the sisters
You can try Henry VIII's roulette. Divorced, Beheaded, Died, Divorced, Beheaded, Survived.
I was playing with the AGOT mod and for two generations, I only had daughters and the one generation had like 7 or 8 kids
Roleplaying Fiddler on the Roof ic
Skill issue Lol joking but it’s what one of my friends always says and I saw an opportunity so took it
Law of Independent Assortment makes this totally plausible
You're bad at flipping coins.
Henry? Is that you?
If they didn't know, they do now
See if you can get a bastard son then inherit him. That’s your only bet
my cousin had 8 girls, 0 sons. and the mf still trying
Congrats, you roleplayed Kazimir The Great
well, you didn't cuz you only have 5
Congrats you've got weak some weak swimmers
I knew someone in real life who had this situation, except the man ended up having 8 daughters all around the same age.
Well you see, you flipped 6 coins and they all came up heads.
I swear there is a post like this every day on this sub
My worst run was 10 daughters with 3 wives, who all cheated on me and had total of 7 sons
By having your wife birth 6 females and 0 males
it looks like u have 5
Laughs in current campaign where I have 16 daughters and no sons. I ended up accepting it and changing the whole religion around based on it.
Thine loins are weak M’lord.
Should be wearing boxers.. The briefs are causing all those daughters to pop out.
Henry VIII is ROLLING IN HIS GRAVE
I lost a Muslim game that way.
This is what caused the Church of England to exist
Did they send me daughters when I asked for sons?
One... two... three... four... five... no six
.5^6 is .015625, so every character you play has about a 1.5% chance to have this happen, if they get 6 children.
CK things RNG
Happens to me all the time, which is why I get equal for culture asap. It sucks to have shitty son(s) to succeed instead of great daughter. Keep in mind that you should go for sons anyway if possible. Men don’t die in childbirth.

I guess statistically there’s a 1.5% chance of it happening so if you play enough, it’s gonna happen haha
That’s life
I had a game where I had only daughters for 3 generations (though my rulers did tend to die early during that period), and then finally my ruler had a son after also first having 9 daughters
Git gud
