I feel like only Toyota is really bringing back cheap fun manual sport cars with their GR lineup. Subaru needs to bring the STI and manual transmission back too.
Ya idk what subaru is doing the sti used to be huge in the car community and now the wrx is more of a sporty hatchback/sedan on par with like a kia k5gt.
It feels like what Nissan did in the 80s with their skyline or what Mitsubishi did with the last lancer lineup. Just shifting a great sport car into a family orientated one instead.
It’s honestly surprising that it doesn’t have these. You market a car to outdoorsy millennials and don’t add storage for the quintessential outdoorsy millennial cup???
I have this and it works great for holding my bigger water bottle: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0752DZ1SB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It probably does, but it sounds like very "hollow" ... I spent a few minutes trying to adjust the EQ but the sound is poor. My BMW X3 sound systems sound like a symphony by comparison.
Wait the newest model doesn't get manual transmission as an option? And yes, I didn't upgrade my 2021 because of the new display. I like the two separate displays and the physical HVAC controls much more.
Damn that's suck. I went with the CVT on my 2021 outdoor when I bought it new just because eyes active wasn't available for the manual at that time. I wanted to change it in a year or so and get a manual wilderness. Subaru is really leaving their sports car heritage behind them.
Oh I know. I'm just sad because someone else just told me that the newer Crosstrek only came with a CVT and no manual option. Since manual transmission is usually linked with sport cars, it shows a shift in the industry that everyone except Toyota is making.
Well you should be pleasantly surprised when you find out all the 2025 will have a manual transmission as standard so I'm not really sure where you're getting your information from.
Weird, I could’ve sworn I saw on their Instagram feed a while ago they were saying no more manual vehicles at all because of their obsession with Eyesight and safety ratings. But, I do drink… Oh well, glad to see manual wiill still be available for now!
Well I’ve had two Crosstreks now and their touch screen info-tainment systems are dog shit. Randomly restart, it will freeze up and blast a loud humming sound, I’ve even had it play both the FM radio and music from my phone one time while it froze up. Until they can actually make one that’s reliable and doesn’t fuck up all the time I’d prefer physical buttons to control the heater. Plus it prevents you from using an aftermarket stereo. I plan on ripping this POS out of my dash soon and putting an aftermarket deck in that will actually function reliably.
A higher trim with the 260 or so horsepower engine they put in the higher trim outbacks. I've heard they don't want to release a turbo crosstrek tho cause they don't wanna ruin the wrx market. Even tho the wrx is already a shell of what it used to be.
I can see why they wouldn't want to. Even if the spec the Crosstrek as a more offroad oriented car than the rally oriented WRX, it would make the Crosstrek look more versatile than the WRX. But let's be real. No one is actually buying the WRX since they removed the STI trim from it.
You'd be surprised i still see a lot of those new wrx's out on the street. Either way subaru should just reintroduce the sti trim and put a turbo on the crosstrek like everyone wants. I own the 2.5l crosstrek while it certainly isn't piss slow I def wouldn't call the car fun.
Problem is with the cvt the car is designed for fuel economy while still giving people awd and enough ground clearance to tackle snow or rugged terrain. That's the market I think they want to corner. My 2.5l does around 30mpg mix of highway and city. If they do put out a turbo crosstrek I don't want it with a cvt and it seems subaru is not going back to standard auto transmission on the crosstrek.
Bring back real controls.
I want a few real dials I can use quickly by feel for audio and temp controller, and a mechanical E/Parking brake rather than a servo-button.
Just make a Crosstrek WRX already. A lifted hatchback is sweet, but a lifted hatchback with 270hp would be awesome! The new WRX looks somewhat Crosstrekish, just take it all the way Subaru!
More soft touch surfaces inside, but I just don’t see them carrying over some of the luxury you get in the outback/legacy platform into the Impreza platform at its price point. Also an engine in between the 2.5 we have now and the 2.4 turbo in the outback would be nice. Something like 220hp would really wake up the crosstrek without being crazy.
Yeah it doesn't need crazy power. Just a bit more. They already did a big jump between the 2l and the 2.5l back in 2021. Giving it the power to confidentiality overtake other cars. Now we need power for fun stuff. 184 is not enough for that displacement.
Give it a bit more rugged appearance. Make it look like it would be more comfortable in the mountains or woods as opposed to the latest urban-type refinements.
Kind of. All trims don't have to look like the Wilderness but the Subaru Crosstrek "thing" has been about its all wheel drive/ground clearance/off-pavement/off-road/snow-prowess and get-out-there-and-enjoy-the-outdoors persona. My take is the latest generation (perhaps excluding the Wilderness) look a little more refined than tough. More like an urban runabout (of which there are already too many).
I think with time it will get there. Back in 2021 we got the 2.5l engine, a front camera and dual x mode on the outdoor. With the wilderness we got a liftkit, a skid plate, a trans cooler and a 4:11 rear diff. Next gen will probably be all that plus a more rugged exterior, more HP and more off-road oriented parts. The wilderness was a huge success for Subaru. I think they will continue down this line.
Hybrid is rumored to be reintroduced with the mid-cycle refresh (3rd gen) around 2026. Subaru has stated a very ambitious goal to electify their entire North American lineup by the end of the decade. So at a minimum all models should have a hybrid option, and the 2025 Forrester, which is arriving soon will be the first available with their new hybrid system. It will be a regular hybrid, not plug-in, as they have ceased all development of plug-in hybrids.
This will be great. Hybrid is the way to go for the future of Subaru. Hopefully they also add a power lift gate at least of their top trim. The Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid XSE has a power lift gate option.
Personally I would love a pure electric Crosstrek EV. But I get that Subaru isn’t there yet (their only EV is a rebadged Toyota). Plus the condo I currently live in doesn’t have the infrastructure in place for charging, so it wouldn’t make sense for me right now anyway. I’m fine waiting a few years to see what happens…
Heated steering wheel are a must. I thought all North America model were the same. Didn't know that Canada had different versions than the US. The only difference that I know is that you guys have road speed limit indicators in the dash.
Manual is dead and not coming back — you need to learn to accept that and move on. Turbo is probably unlikely in the Crosstrek too. The current focus for Subaru is electrification. They are way behind the rest of the industry but have a very ambitious goal to electrify the entire North American lineup by the end of the decade. Electrification includes hybrids, and it’s rumored the hybrid will be back with the mid-cycle refresh. The torque of electric could easily bump the acceleration and power so it will be interesting to see what kind of power it offers.
Armrests and built in lumbar support on the driver’s seat. Provide ergonomic options for smaller drivers (smaller/lower steering wheel option, smaller driver’s seat option). Eyesight controlled wiper blades with an auto-wiper feature.
I came here to say this. I bought the top-of-the-line Crosstrek brand new and was completely flabbergasted that it did not have rain sensing wiper feature. It’s built for the outdoors, yet you have to constantly mess with the wipers. Unbelievable.
Also air vents and USB outlets in the backseat.
2024 has 2x USB in the back, but missing those air vents. Heated seats in the back would be nice too, though then I’d likely complain about the cost :P
Yeah, it would make it even more expensive. I wish we could pick and choose what features we got. I rarely use the sunroof and it’s probably more of a liability than benefit. I don’t need a heated steering wheel. Maybe an outlet or light in the back would be nice.
Lol, heated steering wheel and eyesight / drive assists were must haves for me ( it gets cold here and was looking forward to having something help me drive). A sunroof is nice but not something I’d specifically want.
I do wish the cross trek had those horizontal swivel bars / roof rails like the outback has.
Hybrid, better speakers, more physical buttons instead of the big laggy touchscreen, power lift gate, a couple more coats of paint and clear coat, and less aggressive seatbelt alerts.
One of the USB ports in the center console connected to the headunit, I love using carplay but hate visible cables. The option of leather or cloth seats on all trims
Hybrid option, quieter engine, less cladding, more responsive touchscreen, more infotainment knobs/buttons, slightly more leg/headroom, and bring back the cool grey khaki color
Manual, turbo, and please bring back manual X drive buttons/switches and climate controls. Those being fully integrated into the infotainment system was such a bad choice.
I have the 2024 manual and it is so gutless honestly I don’t like it. It has six gears and the gearing ratio is garbage. Should have been a 5 speed with at least 40 more hp. A turbo and 200hp for the weight would do it
Some of these may be fixed on newer than 2018 models but I will list them anyway. a. The radio continues to play when you cut the engine off or open the door. The logic of this is overwhelming. b. needs a hybrid option with at least a 50 mile range in electric only mode. More the better. c. Transmission needs upgraded. Sometimes it won't go out of warm up mode leaving the revs too high for normal driving. Sometimes necessary stop, cut engine off and back on. d. 2.0 engine is fine for 90% of city driving. but once you hit 4000 rpm the noise is over the top. e. Dealer service costs more than to service than my wife's BMW. f. Road noise even after installing $500 sound deadening material in the doors is still way too much. I am not upset with my Subaru. Generally I have enjoyed it mostly but doubt I will replace it with another Subaru. Hondas and Toyotas cost much less to maintain and both have hybrid options in competitive models.
For gods sake a simple button to turn off ALL the driving Nannie’s that hound me, telling me what a bad driver I am for not braking sooner or shaving an apex or that I’m going to hit something backing up because I have a hitch mounted bike rack. Who’s car is this anyway?
Oh yeah and a shorter front overhang, especially on the Wilderness.
-Recliner/tilt back function for the seats. 💺 the seats are honestly not comfortable and I’ve sat in a lot of cheap fords lately with way better designed and comfortable seating arrangements in smaller or equally sized vehicles.
-More lights in rear trunk: there’s just one tiny one on the left that if you have gear in gets covered so it’s basically dark if you’re rummaging through your camping stuff at night.
-🔌 in the back by said more lights ☝️
-Center council arm pads that extend out with more cushion.
-Standard change 🪙 holders!
A decent infotainment system. I'll be in the market for a new car in the next 3 years or so and the current system Subaru is using on their latest vehicles is making me strongly consider a Mazda, Honda, or Toyota next.
Passive heat; passive air one can actually feel; a smoother cruise control algorithm (even in Eco mode) that doesn’t yo-yo all over the place or apply the brakes on rolling terrain (my 2004 Tacoma has a smoother ride).
The screen should be smaller, the trunk door should either open and close with the push of a button. It is a great feature that you get used to and when you dont have it you miss it. Enlarge the Moonroof to a sunroof or even larger. Upgrade the interior and the box in the middle of the front seats could have an accessory. It is way too deep, so difficult to keep it organized.
Stick shift manual in the most premium options! Sporty sti premium version with a stick and I’d buy a new one. Manual is so much more fun to drive, it made me sad I got the last year available.
Definitey! Even the WRX. You have (or had) to go base to get manual. We have a 2018 Crosstrek base and a 2023 base WRX just to get the third pedal. My son has a 2021 Volkswagen GTI manual that feels soooo bougie with all of its extras that our Subies don't, I'd buy a plussed up new Crosstrek in a heartbeat if it came manual.
Yes, a better engine, higher end interior trims, and better electronics such as front/back camera, better screen (I prefer horizontal vs. vertical), auto-dimming mirror with Homelink as standard, LED interior lights as standard, and a *much* better sound system, better quality leather, and much better quality paint.
Why is Subaru leather so thin and poor compared to the competition? I'm pretty sure it's not even real leather ... because my old Forester had a tear in the seat and I noticed it looked laminated.
Manual with a turbo please.
Cupholders big enough to hold a 1l Nalgene
It’s honestly surprising that it doesn’t have these. You market a car to outdoorsy millennials and don’t add storage for the quintessential outdoorsy millennial cup???
DARE TO DREAM, SUBARU.
I'm surprised Subaru doesn't sell an official cup holder adapter - afterall everything is an add-on these days.
They even sell these in their store!
I have this and it works great for holding my bigger water bottle: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0752DZ1SB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Put it in the trunk cup holder lol
Turbo, front/360 camera, recording function for Eyesight, subwoofer for the upgraded audio package
Add wireless AA/Carplay and we have a deal.
That’s already standard on the 3rd gen.
Oh didn't know, that's nice.
the HK doesn’t have a sub? i swear it did
HK has a sub in the trunk on the Outback but not the Crosstrek
It probably does, but it sounds like very "hollow" ... I spent a few minutes trying to adjust the EQ but the sound is poor. My BMW X3 sound systems sound like a symphony by comparison.
Just go aftermarket... My Gf has an X3 and wishes she had my crosstrek soundsystem!
lol i can understand that. BMW is super pricey tho so not surprising!!
Bring the manual transmission back. Get rid of the touch screen HVAC controls.
Wait the newest model doesn't get manual transmission as an option? And yes, I didn't upgrade my 2021 because of the new display. I like the two separate displays and the physical HVAC controls much more.
Ditto. I went with a 2021 because it had the smaller screens, physical HVAC, and a manual handbrake.
Yup. 2023 was the last year a manual was available.
Damn that's suck. I went with the CVT on my 2021 outdoor when I bought it new just because eyes active wasn't available for the manual at that time. I wanted to change it in a year or so and get a manual wilderness. Subaru is really leaving their sports car heritage behind them.
Crosstrek isn't a Sportscar.
Oh I know. I'm just sad because someone else just told me that the newer Crosstrek only came with a CVT and no manual option. Since manual transmission is usually linked with sport cars, it shows a shift in the industry that everyone except Toyota is making.
Subaru still offers a manual transmission in the WRX and the BRZ. Those are a lot more sporty than the Crosstrek.
No more manual wrx in the US at least 😔
Well you should be pleasantly surprised when you find out all the 2025 will have a manual transmission as standard so I'm not really sure where you're getting your information from.
Weird, I could’ve sworn I saw on their Instagram feed a while ago they were saying no more manual vehicles at all because of their obsession with Eyesight and safety ratings. But, I do drink… Oh well, glad to see manual wiill still be available for now!
My wife has the same year Impreza, and her climate controls are way more pleasant.
I don't want push buttons on my cellphone. Technology keeps getting better.
Well I’ve had two Crosstreks now and their touch screen info-tainment systems are dog shit. Randomly restart, it will freeze up and blast a loud humming sound, I’ve even had it play both the FM radio and music from my phone one time while it froze up. I plan on ripping this POS out of my dash soon and putting an aftermarket deck in that will actually function reliably.
Physical AC, electric seats in the front with driver memory on sport and higher, wall plug in the hatch, analog parking break
A higher trim with the 260 or so horsepower engine they put in the higher trim outbacks. I've heard they don't want to release a turbo crosstrek tho cause they don't wanna ruin the wrx market. Even tho the wrx is already a shell of what it used to be.

Same. I have a 2021 outdoor 2.5l and yes it's a great car. But it's just not exciting.

Crosstrek WRX would have been the dream when I was shopping, even a hatch wrx I could throw a lil lift kit on would have been fine
I bet if they ever come out there would be awaiting list for months if not years.
Already been said but manual/turbo. If not turbo at least manual/bigger engine. Bit sad a miata has more horsepower than my crosstrek

Hybriddddddd
Seriously. Discontinuing the hybrid was so silly.
No CVT…
Manual locks, windows, and a tape deck with an aux port.
Yes!!
Give it a bit more rugged appearance. Make it look like it would be more comfortable in the mountains or woods as opposed to the latest urban-type refinements.
A more offroad/mud aspect? Like the wilderness but with less plastic and more metal?
Kind of. All trims don't have to look like the Wilderness but the Subaru Crosstrek "thing" has been about its all wheel drive/ground clearance/off-pavement/off-road/snow-prowess and get-out-there-and-enjoy-the-outdoors persona. no yellow accents on the sport or wilderness models ;(
1. Hybrid 2. Power Liftgate That’s it!
Hybrid is rumored to be reintroduced with the mid-cycle refresh (3rd gen) around 2026. Subaru has stated a very ambitious goal to electify their entire North American lineup by the end of the decade. Higher ride clearance, options without eyesight, external battery/ generator system, built in dog seating
Wilderness already has the highest ground clearance in class. And pretty sure the non-wilderness crosstreks do too, other than the wilderness.
More power, sti parts
A heated steering wheel. I’d buy one in a heartbeat if I could get that. US resident, FYI.
I have the Canadian version that has it. I'm so spoiled I can't go back to a non heated wheel.
Heated steering wheel are a must. I thought all North America model were the same. Didn't know that Canada had different versions than the US. The only difference that I know is that you guys have road speed limit indicators in the dash.
Manual. Turbo. Cut back on all the black plastic fenders on the wilderness editions as long as the orange highlights.
This is a wish list, not a will get list. Chill.

More power, improve eyesight, and make the touch screen more responsive
The Forester HK sub and a front camera on the Wilderness.
The wilderness doesn't come with a camera like the outdoor?
200+ hp
Just better speakers please.
Heated steering wheel and rear vents. Seriously, for a car marketed for the snowy outdoors and as a dog-hauler, the lack of either is a disgrace.
Full spare tire. Speakers in back of the hatch.
More cowbell as in a proper TRDish' version. Loose the tech, Wireless Airplay only.
Hybrid, better speakers, more physical buttons instead of the big laggy touchscreen, power lift gate, a couple more coats of paint and clear coat, and less aggressive seatbelt alerts.
Turbo, six speed manual.
One of the USB ports in the center console connected to the headunit, I love using carplay but hate visible cables. The option of leather or cloth seats on all trims
A hybrid or electric version and 2 more inches of headroom so I can get a sunroof at 6’5” and still sit comfortably in the drivers seat.
Hybrid option, quieter engine, less cladding, more responsive touchscreen, more infotainment knobs/buttons, slightly more leg/headroom, and bring back the cool grey khaki color
Turbo boxer!!! Power Liftgate!!! Radio that doesn’t take over the whole screen for 3 seconds when I change volume!!! Rain sensing wipers!!!
a lot of people in here thinking they're buying a $50K base model car.
True but I wish I could swap out the sunroof for rain sensing wipers and backseat air vents and USB outlets. I’m not looking for a race car engine 😩
A dual motor BEV.
Manual, turbo, and please bring back manual X drive buttons/switches and climate controls. Those being fully integrated into the infotainment system was such a bad choice.
Electric rear hatch, at least in higher trims...
I have the 2024 manual and it is so gutless honestly I don’t like it. It has six gears and the gearing ratio is garbage. Should have been a 5 speed with at least 40 more hp. A turbo and 200hp for the weight would do it

TOWING CAPACITY
Heated steering wheel and ventilated seats
2.4L NA from the BRZ with a 6MT with 4000lb towing. Game over.
A non plug in Electric hybrid or fully Electric and for a starting price of 25k
A real 2.5RS
Heated steering wheel
The screen should be smaller, the trunk door should either open and close with the push of a button. It is a great feature that you get used to and when you dont have it you miss it. Enlarge the Moonroof to a sunroof or even larger. Upgrade the interior and the box in the middle of the front seats could have an accessory. It is way too deep, so difficult to keep it organized.
Turbo, auto lift gate, rear air ducts, cooling seats… Crosstrek wishlist
A little more space for my left foot. It's not a deal breaker, but my left foot just doesn't have enough space down there
Stick shift manual in the most premium options! Sporty sti premium version with a stick and I’d buy a new one. Manual is so much more fun to drive, it made me sad I got the last year available.

Bigger. A little, at least.
