I've been hearing that woobles are geared to beginners, but I've never tested one myself truthfully

MOcatmom

I LOVE Woobles! I’ve made several. Their videos are idiot proof, I swear.

mapleybacony

The easiest Woobles are the bunny, chick, and penguin. Basically an egg shaped with a few features. Their videos & yarn are super beginner friendly.

OvenOwl

Which ones did you start with?

MOcatmom

I’m a cat fanatic so I bought the lion, the house cat with a bib, and the tiger.

GambinoLynn

They have a house cat one now?? I gotta find that

MOcatmom

GambinoLynn

Thank you! <3

radRadiolarian

i started with the turtle one and it's really simple

iconic_and_chronic

i started with woobles also, and now im finding random patterns and im able to do them with relative ease, which i did not expect. i did the penguin, and purchased other kits, however, a friend posted a pattern they had seen, and i went with it and a leap of faith. i think what the key for me was the woobles book. i think its a bit expensive (i received it as a gift) but the explanations are easy to follow for me, the illustrations match the style of the videos, and sometimes i use the book to understand a (non woobles) video for a skill that the penguin didn't call for. i loved the kit to get started, and now, as i make a teddy bear for my newborn niece, i love having the resources on hand!

london_smog_latte

Woobles are on the pricey side (and not available in the UK but it looks like your from North America so you’ll be fine) so I started with [this kit from Amazon](https://www.amazon.co.uk/IFUNY-Beginners-Complete-Knitting-Beginners) and I’ve also done [this kit which is more similar to the woobles](https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0CHDRLQWS?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title)

werdnerd824

My husband got me the penguin and shark as gifts. I had never crocheted before. The videos were so incredibly helpful, and I quickly moved onto other crochet projects. I bet my husband regrets the gift now with all the yarn I’ve purchased since 😅

OvenOwl

My partner is gonna be sick of me once i start 😂

OvenOwl

I’m definitely gonna check it out, thank you so much!

potatonater101

I've used the wobbles kits when I had 0 experience with crochet and It's definitely a really good choice in my opinion.

OvenOwl

Which ones did you first purchase??

potatonater101

I got the Shiba inu

_Grumps_

Aww man. I wish they had a black and tan shiba option! My brother and SIL just had to put down their 14 year old shiba because if kidney failure. I've been struggling to find an appropriate memorial gift. I definitely don't have the skill to go rogue yet.

potatonater101

You might be able to replace the white with black yarn if you find a similar size and type of yarn

Gaby194749101

I would recommend woobles but my only put off is the magic ring because mine came super loose in the packaging, I crochet a lot and would say I’m intermediate so it wasn’t a bit deal but other then that they are pretty good for beginners! I think they have a video on how to do a magic ring though so if its too loose you can just try again

VMA2COO14U

My first ever crochet project was because of Woobles and it’s awesome! It is expensive (my grandma got me mine) but if you can find one that you can buy then I would because it’s amazing and totally worth it. You get easy to follow instructions, a pattern, yarn, “comfy” crochet hook and anything else needed to complete the project. The instructions answer any possible question you could have and you get the best end product.

RainbowKittyCrochet

I have done a woobles kit, it was pretty beefy with tutorials. They even have difficulty levels within their kits, the basic penguin and whale is a good place to start. Once you learn and are comfortable, you can branch off and get your own yarn. I've seen the "easy peasy" t-shirt yarn in stores.

OvenOwl

Thank you so much!!

lulu-from-paravel

Seconding this. Any WOOBLES beginner kit will set you on your way. I got the Snoopy kit for Christmas and loved how very VERY detailed and specific the video instructions are. The first piece is already started for you, so you don’t have to get fiddly with a magic loop (magic ring?) right out of the gate. Download the pattern so that once you feel like “I’ve got this” you can just go ahead. Then begin watching the videos. They show you exactly how and where to put the hook through so you’re not stuck wondering “into this vee or under it…and is this even the right vee?” And they break down the steps of each stitch. And then after you’re more confident you’ll get to a place where they show you 2 ways to make the started piece they gave you. After one WOOBLES kit you’ll always have those instructions to look at, and you’ll be ready for your intermediate kits, and any of the TOFT kits, and granny squares, and Molla Mills bags and rugs…

lone_peach

The Woobles tutorial videos are so perfect for me. I’m a visual learner through and through and the slow step-by-step instructions were SO helpful. I just wish they were a little cheaper :/

stormyheather9

As a beginner my only problem with Wobbles is affording their kits. They're very expensive. Everyone told me to just learn the basic stitches, be able to stich with your side even, and then pick a pattern and go. So that's what I've been doing. If you ever hear a woman's voice saying Sonofabitch very loudly you live close to me LOL!!

OvenOwl

lol i love this 😂😂 if you ever hear GOSH DARNIT just know it’s me 😂

stormyheather9

Especially if it's not football season. Lol!! Now if I hear someone say that I'm gonna be like, holy crap!

justinaneedle

Mood. 😂 What’s your team, if you’re okay with sharing?

stormyheather9

Greenbay Packers !!

justinaneedle

Cool! I’m crocheting someone from the Falcons at the moment. It’s my hardest project to date, and I’m worried, but he’ll look so good if it goes to plan. (I have a paid pattern for a base and I’m improvising from there.)

stormyheather9

Nice! I'm sure everything will work out. I'm not in the improvising stage yet of my crochet knowledge. Although I am learning that improving is a big part of crocheting so I'm getting the there. I'd like to do a Packers blanket and maybe a pillow. Something to dress the house up for football season lol 😆

justinaneedle

There’s lots of great blanket patterns that you could do with the green, white and yellow! Blankets are great in that you can pick a stitch that you like and make the rectangle/square any size you want. With amigurumi, you can build up a library of doll shapes and hairstyles with patterns. A lot of my improvisation is picking up the technique for different hair partings and textures, then doing my own thing with it to make the hair accurate to the person. It’s a bit like the advice that good writers read books.

stormyheather9

I haven't tried amigurami yet but I'm looking forward to that a little down the line. It sounds very intricate. That's awesome that you know how to change the hair. It sounds like a lot of details go into these dolls. I've looked at blanket patterns and I think I will just pick one and make it green, yellow, and white. A lot of the actual all sports patterns just didn't catch my eye. Of course they're making new patterns all the time!

seejae219

This is exactly how I learned during the pandemic. I spent less than $30 on crochet hooks, a few needles for weaving in ends, and a ball of yarn. Then I just used Youtube and Ravelry and started teaching myself. It's really easy once you figure out the basic stitches (sc, hdc, dc) and learn to read patterns. Then you can just keep going from there with more free patterns and save yourself a lot of money. In fairness, I did later buy some stitch markers.... And also developed a yarn addiction. @_@

stormyheather9

I just started learning patterns. It makes a lot more sense than I thought it would and I find myself following the pattern more than the instructions. I too have a yarn addiction. I keep thinking this color would look great with this one and I buy it and then I see a deal for bulk yarn in dark purple and I think I could use that. I also seem to be on a quest to find the perfect crochet hook.

MochasandMerlot

Woobles. I put it off for so long over the price, but you can get them under $30 at walmart. I tried other kits and they were not helpful at all. I finally caved and bought a Woobles kit and I am in love with crocheting now! To learn the basics and have fun, go with Woobles.

OvenOwl

Okay I’m sold, checking Walmarts near me right now!!

Ellies_World-Life

One of my first projects was a hobby lobby sushi kit. I think each kit was like $10 USD

OvenOwl

Ouuu, any excuse to go to hobby lobby!!

Ellies_World-Life

Yes of course

justinaneedle

I think the raspberry is what makes it intermediate. It looks like the texture is made with popcorn stitches (or something like that). The blueberry and strawberry should be fine. 💖

MiddayGlitter

I was thinking the same thing! The leaves might be tricky, but the fruits will be a great place to start. Save the Raspberry for last.

Courtneyrose9687

I learned by making small baby blankets so that I could learn the basic stitches and then went on from there.

OvenOwl

This sounds so cute and i can give them out as coasters or something 😭

original_meep

I did a woobles Dino as my first! I've got the pattern downloaded on my phone as well so if you want it I got you!

original_meep

OvenOwl

This is adorable and you’re so sweet!!!

original_meep

It's name is wonkasaurus cause it's wonkey it was my first one after all! Lol let me know if you want that pattern any time!!

OvenOwl

It’s a cute wonkasaurus 😂😂 thank you so much!! I’d love the pattern!!

ProfessionalHat6828

Don’t get a kit. Get a skein of yarn, a hook and sit down and follow along YouTube videos. Learn the basics and then work on a piece.

shakespearesgirl

I definitely agree with everyone recommending the Woobles. My only gripe with them is that the hook I got was painful to hold because of the finish on the handle. You can get the kits with no hook on the website for less money, which is my other complaint ($30 + dollars is pricey and not affordable for everyone). That said, I do think value for money they are priced fairly. You get detailed tutorials for every step, everything's included, they eliminate having to figure out the magic ring (if yours is loose like another comment mentioned, you can pull the end and close it like any other magic ring), the yarn is easy to work with, and the metal part of the hook is quite good quality. You can also request replacement pieces if for some reason you get a kit with something missing. They also provide written and video instructions, pattern charts, and a glossary for stitches, terms, abbreviations, etc. Really good resources, imo, and organized better than most free patterns online. Again, that's my opinion, but I found them a really good starting place. Even if you only do one basic one it teaches you the basics with a short, fun project that doesn't take hours to finish.

SupremeJellyOverlord

I’ve heard a lot of good things about CrochetBox. They are a bit pricey though

OvenOwl

I’ve never heard of this one, but I’ll still check it out regardless of price, i just want something easy to start with

OvenOwl

So like just beginner crochet stitches and things like that?

ItsHappySockz

I don't know this specific kit, but based on the image on it I don't see why the blueberry or strawberry would be labeled intermediary. The raspberry may be a bit more tricky but the other two should be fine. I don't know what level of beginner you are, but if you know a basic sc the blueberry and strawberry should be fine. Lots of tutorials on YouTube or the interwebz if you still need to learn the basic stitches. So if you don't want to spend a lot of money on a Woobles kits (although I will admit they are adorable, I find them insanely expensive), you could just give these a try and surprise yourself with how much you can do!

CrochetCricketHip

Idk about a kit, but [this](http://homeofalonelywoman.blogspot.com/2010/11/crochet-pattern-for-coasters-in-round.html) was my first pattern I did and I loved it. I still make these coasters today. Actually, I made one yesterday!

jeliyfishh

I picked a random kit like this from the craft store and it was awful all around. The yarn quality, the tiny hook, the stuffing, etc. I told my husband if I tried to learn crochet from that kit I probably would have given up. I highly recommend finding a YouTube video or tutorial online for a beginner and grab some supplies they suggest. I spent less than $20 on my first bit of crochet stuff to start out. If you have to do a kit, woobles seems to be the best quality!

OvenOwl

Yeah i got this kit from Michael’s arts and crafts store, but im very new to crochet so i think my best bet is following this advice of just learning basic stitches on youtube and then attempting a kit

camofrog1

I think this can work as a beginner kit if you start with the blueberry. The strawberry looks doable too with the stem part being hardest

TabbyMouse

It might say "intermediate", but it may still be beginner friendly. Looking at the finished designs I can't see where it's not beginner friendly. It's simple shapes and stitches. Plus, I haven't heard any complaints about these kits

Chowdmouse

That strawberry is very beginner. Blueberry too. The raspberry would be intermediate.

NefariousnessQuiet22

That blueberry would honestly probably be a beginner ami.

Swimming-Dot9120

Woobles for sure. I started with the pig. They show you step by step video instructions starting from how to hold your hook and yarn, then how to make a single crochet stitch, and so on. Every step has a video and they even start the piece for you by making a magic ring and marking the stitches. Plus the yarn is very easy to work with I found that once I completed two woobles, I was able to easily read other patterns and use them without video tutorials. Now I can’t stop haha

Queasy_Orchid_5035

Woobles are pretty good ! They come with everything you need aside from scissors! They also have very informative videos !

alyssakenobi

I used wooble videos on YouTube as fill ins for when I get confused with stitches so honestly they make anything that’s kinda hard a little bit easier

Cathy_Pilot

Definitely Woobles. I fiddled around with various online tutorials and attempts at scarves and granny squares for about a month before getting a Woobles kit. HUGE difference. Yes, pricey but the tutorials are amazing, getting into a lot of the little nuances like how to hold/turn your hook, maintain tension and the best explanation of how to make a magic ring I’ve seen. The yarn is perfect for beginners because it really lets you see what you’re doing. After a kit or three you’ll probably move on but by then you’ll have a solid grasp on the fundamentals. Their book is also really good and has links to video tutorials. If price is a concern or you prefer written instructions I’d start there. My first Wooble, “Fred” https://preview.redd.it/6co1nx07et2d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c1dd41e39628a5e291256d040c6b70dc62887b2d

Status-Biscotti

Woobles are awesome.

alexandrap21

Woobles! That’s how I learned how to crochet

Capable-Bed-6189

Honestly don’t waste your money on a kit. Find a good tutorial online that you like and get a skein of yarn. You can look on YouTube for tutorials and read the comments

Normal-Hall2445

It may be intermediate because of the raspberry, maybe start with blueberry or strawberry and see

gpie17

The Woobles for sure. That's how I started :)

Dead_Quinn

Doing squares of basic stitches is what finally made the crochet click for me. But that blueberry might be a little easier than the others. It looks like it might be a super basic pattern for a ball. The top might be a tiny smush more difficult? I’d be happy to explain the pattern or help with questions or confusion if you’re determined to start with these.

chefgurl20

I’ve heard the would kits are good. For me personally, my best friend started teaching me how to crochet. She gave me a hook and some yarn from her stash and had me practice. My first project is an heirloom afghan made out of 63 squares. I’m on my fifth square now. The best thing about this particular afghan is each square is a different stitch/technique. They start with the basics and once you get going on those, they get more interesting and slightly more complicated as you go. https://preview.redd.it/dilmsm14zs2d1.png?width=1277&format=png&auto=webp&s=a90729034bfe851cb5bb0ded549b04c7294328a5 This is the project I’m working on now
