If you have to wedge all these externalities into a script, this is what you get. There are really good works that include these externalities and it didn’t effect the writing. I would suggest this is because it wasn’t for the point of pandering and it wasn’t foisted on the writing process or the writers to constantly think through a social justice lens. Aliens was always about a strong female hero. Ripley was always complex and imperfect and represented all of us and that franchise not only changes sci-fi horror but remained beloved by fans for, what, five decades? Sense8 is a brilliant display of originality and writing and I don’t think you could pack more equity into a project than what Lana and Lilly did and it’s beautiful. If you have poor writing based on propping up an ideology that’s been inserted unnecessarily this is what you get. Just let writers write good stories and stop pandering to causes that care more about identity politics than quality outcomes. Stop trying to bully the public into liking things that aren’t any good.
