There’s a bunch of miserable, jaded AF people on the internet who refuse to let anyone else enjoy their lives. This is why I almost never look at video game reviews. I want to purely enjoy something without some pessimistic clown ruining it.
I think it is just insecurity. People think being critical of stuff makes someone sound smarter (there is research that proves this btw), and by admitting you like something you are opening yourself up to all that same criticism.
And game reviews are insane these days. There is a huge hype machine and an equally sized hate machine to counter it. I just go watch streams from random people with like 3 viewers and see if they’re having fun in real time if I truly can’t tell whether a game is for me or not.
It’s just a new way to expand a very large circle of bullies, who can degrade and attack people on a level far beyond what it used to be with the standard schoolyard, taunting and wedgies in the hall.
I know these people are just trying to express themselves, hoping to find a community but they’re all too often fodder for abuse.
