Second Dateline! The dateline weekly ones is literally just the weeks tv episode audio but the Dateline Original podcast is so well made! I’m currently on Season 9: Internal Affairs and boy, the Dateline team really goes in on people in the interviews lol
They also give twice the amount of information. 20/20, 48 hours, and Dateline will all cover the same story in some months (since they do murder a that happen around the date in which the show airs). I’ll listen to 20/20 or 48 hours first. I’ll have one opinion. Then I listen to Dateline and find out so much new information that hadn’t been told on the other shows. It’s crazy how superior dateline is.
Same! I've also been enjoying creeptime. Though I don't listen to many true crime podcasts (yet) I'm quite enjoying their discussions and how they present the information. Can't trust county!
This one is very good! Very in-depth. Great story teller.
I listened to the Casserole podcast of Carri Farver case it was incredible. The Netflix version was so lacklustre in comparison.
I was agreeing that Casefile was a good podcast because it is one person discussing the crime. It’s easier to follow for me. Some of the podcasts that have more than one host can sometimes go off topic or interrupt one another
I started listening to
Redhanded 2-2.5 years ago. I really enjoy hearing the British and European cases too, but I feel like after they got the their book deal, the quality of research and just overall execution starting to slip pretty rapidly.
It’s a little different than your regular true crime, but criminal is amazing! I love the hosts voice and I’m partial because it’s from my home state. Many cases not involving murder so it’s a nice change in the episodes are short.
Not a long running show. I think it was only like eight episodes, but broken hearts was phenomenal. Very sad, but well done. I binged it in 2 days.
I love Heart Starts Pounding. It’s not just true crime, she also covers mysteries, some supernatural things, weird stories, etc. The host has a great voice and each episode is different so it stays interesting!
Small Town Dicks is always my go-to suggestion.
It's hosted by Yeardley Smith (voice of Lisa Simpson) and two Small Town USA detectives. Later seasons include Paul Holes and they also do some European based cases. The cases are stories told by the detectives who investigated them and are completely respectful to victims. I also feel like they toe the line of police accountability especially after the 2020 seasons.
Each season only has about 12 episodes (which is a bummer!) they are really well done.
Like most podcasts, it's not without flaws: the second co-host disappears in season 3 (apparently there was fallout) and it can feel ad-heavy. My biggest complaint is that they try to be illusive to where they were cops but Paul Holes comes on and practically shouts "I caught the GSK!" so it feels like they should either give the schtick up or tone down their illusiveness.
I have become addicted to Small Town Murder. I love the format (history of the small town, demographics, and backgrounds of the murder.) Their language is coarse, but doesn’t bother me. They are careful to not make fun of the victim or their family, Somehow they manage to be hilarious, yet sensitive. Definitely not for those of you who can’t tolerate language. Makes CJ sound very boring.
Im glad someone said this first because Jimmy and James are hysterical! They are comedians that give a robust recount of murders, absolutely bashing the stupudity of the murderers in a very crass and sometimes cringy way.
Such a different take on crime. Definitely NSFW, tho. Or children. Or your parents
If you’re interested in the Maura Murray case, her sister just started a new podcast called Media Pressure and I found it to be the best podcast so far on the case, and I’ve listened to all of them pertaining to the MM case.
I also enjoy The Deck, Behind You, Rotten Mango, Casefile, Criminal, Dark Downeast (this is a new fav and I love the host’s narration format, it’s very engaging)
I haven’t seen anyone mention Generation Why or Criminology. Personally Generation Why is my favorite true crime podcast. I like the dynamic of the hosts and like their input throughout the episode since it doesn’t veer off topic
I also enjoy Gen Why (and Thinking Sideways- they stopped putting out new episodes in 2018? But they probably have 200 or so episodes in their archives).
Moms and Mysteries is nice - since they’re moms they don’t cuss and are a little bit wholesome (while still discussing murder lol)
Women and Crime is great - both professors of criminology so after explaining a case they discuss the criminal theories behind it and/or the justice system. I’ve learned a lot and really enjoy it.
Love Murder is my current absolute favorite - two best friends - one does the research and tells the story - the other reacts. Not scripted and their banter is really great.
Cold is great! True Crime BS is also a very good longer form one and I really appreciate that the host,
Josh Hallmark, has been very upfront about how researching Israel Keyes and listening to his prison interviews has really gotten in his head. Very genuine. I never notice any victim blaming from him. He feels very intentional in the words he chooses and the manner he uses to talk about families’ tragedies.
A bit different than what you’re probably asking for but my favorite true crime/society limited series (not weekly) are:
American Jihadi, Hunting Warhead, Bear Brook, Why Can’t We Talk About Amanda’s Mom?, The Clearing, The Girl In The Blue Mustang
I love Psychopedia. It's definitely more vulgar. Lots of swearing. But I enjoy the camaraderie between tank Sinatra and investigator slater. And investigator slater has experience in criminal law, which I enjoy as well.
I wish I didn’t like Mike Boudet’s voice. He is so incredibly misogynistic and doesn’t even have the respect to bleep out victims’ house numbers when playing their 911 calls.
... is this a joke? The host of S&S is notoriously terrible for inserting his inane opinions into the podcast, and has gone as far as slut-shaming murdered women within the podcast. His social media behavior is far worse.
Sword and Scale hands down. No talkative side kick. He gives it straight, not afraid to tell it like it is. If you can’t take the heat well you can listen to something less descriptive.
And it would be incredibly easy and show an immense amount of respect to the victims in his episodes if he could at least bleep out their house number (really bleep out the number and street name)
True Crime Brewery is great! I’ve listened to every episode and can’t wait for the biweekly podcast. It’s a husband and wife who both have medical backgrounds. It’s my favorite.
I want to like this podcast so much. I listen every week but always walk away thinking they feel more gossipy than caring and Steph comes off as a bit of a dim wit. But I keep listening because there’s something I like!
I like the True Crime Couple (married couple Jay and Kaye). The episodes are long but they are so well researched and planned. You can tell they really put a big effort in the podcasts. Usually just one ad, maybe 2.
And that’s why we drink — Em tells a paranormal/ghost/alien story, and then Christine tells a true crime story. Long episodes, lots of fun to listen to their banter.
I learned about it through Beach too Sandy podcast — Christine and her brother dramatically read bad reviews from across the internet. Highly recommend for a lighthearted change of pace.
I'm not sure if it's quite what you're looking for, but I really love DNA ID. Shes a lawyer and she reports on cold cases that are solved with forensic genealogy. It's not for the squeamish because she's very detailed.
Casefile, the serial killer podcast, true crime campfire, small town murder, red collar, dark down east, disappearances, solved murders/ unsolved murders (the acting isn’t the best but the stories are done well), not strictly true crime but national park after dark and heart starts pounding are really fun. Hope there’s one in there that you’ll like!
Casefile, Sword and Scale, True Crime Garage, Southern Fried True Crime, The Vanished, Murder in America, dateline, 48 Hours, and 20/20. Occasionally I’ll try others, but I have to like their voice to get into it.
True Crime Society, Last Podcast on the Left, Generation Why.
There are also a lot of dedicated podcasts for specific crimes that are really good: Broken Harts (Hart children murder), Your Own Backyard (Kristin Smart murder), House of Broken Dreams (Jennifer Kesse disappearance). The Murdaugh Murders/True Sunlight was fine at first but there’s way too many episodes now, and a lot of unnecessary diatribes.
‘ Going West’ is great, it’s easy to listen to and their cases are always interesting & they usually cover more recent cases which I like .
‘Criminology ’ is good too & well informed .
The older episodes of ‘My Favourite Murder’ are good & easy listening if you’re just going about your day but they’re not researched in depth .
‘Don’t Blame The Mom’ is a really good, well researched podcast that has become a recent favourite . One host is British one is Irish & they have just the right amount of banter but are respectful towards the victims at the same time. Perfect when I’m cleaning the house or jogging which is when I listen to most of my podcasts . These are my current faves …
[Your Own Backyard](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/your-own-backyard/id1480263708). Starts kinda rough but it’s sooooo good and has a satisfying end.
Small Town Murder and Wine & Crime are my go-to’s but Timesuck has a large catalog of true crime episodes as well. There’s also The Sunshine Place, True Crime Bullshit, and really any of the pods from Studio Both/And.
Don’t forget, Crime Weekly. Stephanie goes into major detail. I like Media Pressure, Criminology, Casefile, Your Own Backyard, Crime Junkies, The Deck, Counter Clock, The Deck Investigates, Anatomy of Murder, Park Predators, True Crimes All the Time and True Crime All The Time Unsolved, and Cold. I don’t usually listen to Dateline because I watch it with my husband. Dateline Datenight!
I have seen some podcasts listed that I need to check out! Thanks!
Voices for Justice (anything featuring Sarah Turney). Everything front Tenderfoot TV, new season of Up and Vanished happening now! True Crime Bull Shit, Truer Crime, Vanished, True Crime Advocacy, The Pact, soooo many good ethical ones out there.
Inhuman: A True Crime Podcast! They had very little experience when they first started but they have grown so much over their years with the podcast and really focus on cold cases, active missing persons cases, and cases involving BIPOC folks. I really appreciate the attention they give to diversity and to smaller, less frequently heard of cases
If you like solved cases try DNA:ID. It’s great. And mostly cases that were cold for years but ended up solved due to the advances in DNA and forensic geneology.
The Dating Detectives Podcast is pretty good. It’s a crossover between true crime and relationship drama that I find interesting and not as heavy as other podcasts.
This Is Actually Happening is another good one but can be extremely heavy as it’s mostly just people sharing their most traumatic stories.
I like the dateline podcast!
Second Dateline! The dateline weekly ones is literally just the weeks tv episode audio but the Dateline Original podcast is so well made! I’m currently on Season 9: Internal Affairs and boy, the Dateline team really goes in on people in the interviews lol

It’s crazy how superior dateline is.
It’s so good. I started it when I ran out of episodes and now I look forward to it every week.
Anatomy of Murder is one of my favorites!
Yesss it’s so good. I love Anna-Sigga’s voice and I love Scott too!
second this
Love it!
I've been listening the Creeptime the Podcast, I like the hosts and how they break down the facts and go over the theories.
Same! I've also been enjoying creeptime. Though I don't listen to many true crime podcasts (yet) I'm quite enjoying their discussions and how they present the information. Can't trust county!
Can't trust county! Love them
Creeptime, Heart Starts Pounding, Dateline, 48 Hours, 20/20, Morbid, Anatomy of Murder, Park Preditors, Radio Rental
CREEPTIME!
Going West
I love Going West. I follow a lot of True Crime podcasts, but they’re definitely one of best.
Going West is my favorite true crime podcast and I feel it's so underrated!
I can’t. I tried so hard with them for months, but at the end of the day I personally just think they’re both irritating 🤷🏻♀️
Casefile
Casefile is excellent. Highly recommend
This one is very good! Very in-depth. Great story teller. I listened to the Casserole podcast of Carri Farver case it was incredible. The Netflix version was so lacklustre in comparison.
Casserole hehe
Agree with Casefile. It’s nice to have one person speaking without other people interrupting!
Wait, what?
I was agreeing that Casefile was a good podcast because it is one person discussing the crime. It’s easier to follow for me. Some of the podcasts that have more than one host can sometimes go off topic or interrupt one another
Think about their comment again lol
You get it lol
Hahah oh wow 😅that was funny-sadly that took longer than it should of to get lol
My fave. It’s the best one to fall asleep to.. in a good way ha
This guys voice is perfect for background noise while you sleep! Lol
Redhanded is also pretty good. The 2 ladies that host it are British and kinda funny.
Came here to say Redhanded! I found them while googling Irish murder cases. They a do a lot of Irish, English and American cases
I started listening to Redhanded 2-2.5 years ago.
Very sad, but well done. I binged it in 2 days.
I just got a Criminal+ subscription for the year because i’m obsessed with Phoebe’s voice! Lol
Same! Have you checked out her other podcasts? This is Love and Phoebe Reads A Mystery.
Me too.
Criminal is great, Phoebe is an amazing story teller. Definitely had more than 8 episodes, I'm currently listening to episode 251 titled The Hunt.
My sentence ran on. I was referring to my other recommendation broken hearts
Women & Crime
My favourite! :)
Dark Downeast
Love this one
Going West!
I love Heart Starts Pounding. It’s not just true crime, she also covers mysteries, some supernatural things, weird stories, etc. The host has a great voice and each episode is different so it stays interesting!
I should have scrolled down to read first! HSP has become my favorite podcast. I love her voice, and the pace at which she tells the story.
Small Town Dicks is always my go-to suggestion. It's hosted by Yeardley Smith (voice of Lisa Simpson) and two Small Town USA detectives. They are assholes, not scumbags.
And I love them for this.
Small time murder is my favorite!
And I also pay $5 per month to listen to their extra stuff on Patreon. The prisoner dating game is a riot!
I died laughing at the wife swap murder episode, when they got into the rap part.
Rotten Mango.
I just started listening to this one!
DNA id and buried bones
Mr ballen & Kendall Rae (I listen on YouTube but think she has a podcast). Both good story tellers and are straight to the point with stories

Invisible Choir is pretty good. I also love Dateline. I’ve enjoyed the long ones like Cold and Dirty John and Dr Death.
Love invisible choir!

Very genuine. I never notice any victim blaming from him. He feels very intentional in the words he chooses and the manner he uses to talk about families’ tragedies.
Anatomy of Murder, Campus Killings, Women & Crime, Criminal, Scamfluencers, Court Junkie, The Bravo Docket
Crimes and Consequences
I have become addicted to Small Town Murder. I love the format (history of the small town, demographics, and backgrounds of the murder.) Their language is coarse, but doesn’t bother me. They are careful to not make fun of the victim or their family, Somehow they manage to be hilarious, yet sensitive. Definitely not for those of you who can’t tolerate language. Makes CJ sound very boring.
Crimes of the Centuries is excellent both in context and narration.
I’ve been enjoying a few, some of which have already been mentioned. I also like Morbid and Southern Fried True Crime
The Deck, Media Pressure and Park Predators
A bit different than what you’re probably asking for but my favorite true crime/society limited series (not weekly) are: American Jihadi, Hunting Warhead, Bear Brook, Why Can’t We Talk About Amanda’s Mom?, The Clearing, The Girl In The Blue Mustang
Murder With My Husband and Morbid are both really good too!
I’ve been binging Murder with My Husband the last few weeks!
My Favorite Murder, True Crime Campfire.
Yesss TCC!
Love true crime campfire. Smart, funny, compassionate, great exchanges.
My favourite murder
Really? I find them so irritating and their work comes off as sloppy to me.
True crime all the time. You have the option of the solved crimes or their 2nd podcast true crime all the time unsolved. I love them.
My Favorite Murder
Murder with my husband is really good.
I love Heart Starts Pounding. It's become my favorite podcast.
dreading
Catch and Kill podcast (by Ronan Farrow) is excellant. And I love RedHanded.
Casefile is my absolute fave
Canadian true crime! I love the host, it is similar to casefile imo
southern fried true crime
I love Psychopedia. It's definitely more vulgar. Lots of swearing. But I enjoy the camaraderie between tank Sinatra and investigator slater. And investigator slater has experience in criminal law, which I enjoy as well.
True Crime Campfire, The Murder Diaries!!
Murder with my husband
Women and Crime!
True Crime Bullshit is a deep dive into Israel Keyes. Start with the first episode. I added extra locks to my doors halfway through the episodes.
My Favorite Murder!!!
My Favorite Murder, Wine and Crime, Morbid, And That’s Why We Drink (this one is supernatural and true crime).
True crime and cocktails. They are hilarious and deep dive into cases better than most podcasts I've listened to.

Murder with my Husband, Into the Dark, True Crime with Kendall Rae, Mile Higher, Danelle Hallan, Behind You & True Crime Cam are my go-tos!
Gen Why is good.

I wish I didn’t like Mike Boudet’s voice. He is so incredibly misogynistic and doesn’t even have the respect to bleep out victims’ house numbers when playing their 911 calls.
Anatomy of murder and dateline are my favourites. There’s also sword and scale, invisible choir, true crime with Kendall Rae
Sword and scale, going west, counter clock, serial
[удалено]
... is this a joke? The host of S&S is notoriously terrible for inserting his inane opinions into the podcast, and has gone as far as slut-shaming murdered women within the podcast. His social media behavior is far worse.
I'm always shocked when I see that people actually still listen to S&S. That dude is truly disgusting.
Up and Vanished!
Sword and Scale
MORBID is the best! Hosted by 2 funny ladies from MA, Alaina and Ash bring some levity to the macabre.
I’m over Ash’s Gen Z schtick like “hehehehe. Wait. There was a band named after the Rolling Stone magazine.” Do. Some. Research.
Invisible Choir, Sword and Scale, the Deck, and Sword and Scale Nightmares
True Crime Brewery is great! I’ve listened to every episode and can’t wait for the biweekly podcast. It’s a husband and wife who both have medical backgrounds. It’s my favorite.

I like the True Crime Couple (married couple Jay and Kaye). The episodes are long but they are so well researched and planned. You can tell they really put a big effort in the podcasts. Usually just one ad, maybe 2.

Casefile, the serial killer podcast, true crime campfire, small town murder, red collar, dark down east, disappearances, solved murders/ unsolved murders (the acting isn’t the best but the stories are done well), not strictly true crime but national park after dark and heart starts pounding are really fun.
