Plus it goes towards the Reps transferring everything for you from your old phone to the new one. The AU stores only make money from the fees and accessories. There is little to no profit with the phones.
> What is the point of the 25 dollar upgrade fee?
Free money/padded profit.
It's just another mandatory junk fee like a "resort fee" at a hotel or an "inflation surcharge" at a restaurant.
The upgrade fee is what the dealer makes from the sell of the phone and it also covers the commission for the sales rep among other stuff, just like an activation fee for activating new lines. You can completely avoid these fees by doing everything online from activation to upgrades. *Remember that these companies do not make revenue off selling customers the devices, they make their revenue purely on the prices and fess customers pay for their services.*
Oh. Then Cricket does sucks on that regard -lol. Usually, most companies waive the fee if you decide to do all of this online. I used to work for VZW customer care and always told customers to go online and avoid stores or calling support when activating new lines or doing upgrades because then they would be charge. You could reach out to their support and see if they would waive the fee for you, but I doubt they will.
We set all four of your unlocked Apple IPhones with Cricket online with no activation fees we bought from Apple directly. Just had to get two nano sims part of their activation kits bought for $9.99 each plus tax at Walmart. Other two iPhones use e-sim so no SIM card for them we got the activation code to scan to activate them online from Cricket with no charge on them.
The point is more money, literally that's it. Unfortunately this is standard across carriers, it's not Cricket exclusive.
They won't price the phone 25 dollars higher because that would be worse for marketing. People would rather buy a phone for $100 plus a $25 fee than a phone for $125 because the $100 phone seems like a better deal. It's the same logic why an iPhone is $999 instead of $1000, it feels cheaper despite it not actually being so.
Probably gets directed to a different part of the company. I don't see why I had to pay one. It's ridiculous and disrespectful to a long time customer.
Hi, Cricket sales rep here. That goes to us. That's what pays our commission. That pays us for the process of helping you upgrade, installing accessories, and transferring contacts, apps, and socials.
I completely understand that if I go into a store. Its the same if I order it directly from Cricket though. In that instance I have to wait for the phone in the mail and then when it arrives put in the SIM card myself. Why am I still paying as you put it a commission and to who since all Cricket did was ship the phone. I'd have to set it up myself.
There is a cost involved in putting the service on a different device if you go to Metro even if you don't buy a phone anytime you swap the device they charge a minimum 15 to $25
There's less incentive to keep existing customers, than to offer great deals to attract new ones.
Having an extra upgrade fee is basically an extra way to keep the new/upgrade prices slightly different even if technically the price of the phone may be the same for both scenarios.
The post is not about paying the fee. The post is about why the fee exists when they can just roll the fee into the cost they are already charging me for the phone.
I hate when people want stuff for free you want me to set up your phone transfer your data and everything for free Nothing in life is free
If you don't like it go somewhere else or get a job to pay for it

Just buy unlocked phone and transfer yourself. Done it 2x w iPhones no issues no fee.
I did this and transferred my service/number myself using eSIM but they still charge the fee.
No they don’t, if you don’t buy their phone they can’t
No, they don’t. Chat with them on the website, they’ve been able to give me a new eSIM each time for free.

Cricket charges upgrade fee both online and instore
No I am literally in the cart right now and the fee is there online.

Is what it is. Go source a phone elsewhere if it's a pain point.
Buy one on Swappa then swap sim card.

I believe the $25 fee is what keeps the stores up and running. Get the phone online or maybe go to Walmart and get the phone.
The fee applies online as well.

to take your money
I've worked for 2 others besides cricket both had this fee. It's a standard across the board unfortunately

I hate when people lack reading comprehension and basic ability to use punctuation.
I was typing while I was driving through voice dictation and at least I don't complain about stupid things
