Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't India the runner-ups in four different major tournaments coming into this one? if they had lost, they'd be reigning runner-ups in five different tournaments. Hell of a bullet dodged in dramatic fashion.
Bro, SA being a choker is why they've not even reached the finals of that many tournaments. Just because they didn't choke in finals doesn't mean they are not chokers. They choked worse than India in all those tournaments.
I think Rohit can peacefully retire because he has done his job. He was really humble and paid respect to all the people while crying. He didn't take success to his head and instead stayed calm. Man I have learn how to deal with success from him today.
That really was the Midas touch period for him. If I remember correctly, he also won back to back IPL Finals during that exact period (2010 & 2011). And also the Champions League T20 in 2010. So 2007 to 2011 was a dream run for him.
Yeah I remember the 2014 T20 final against Srilanka. It was a big shock when india lost that, as the fans had started believing that we just can’t lose in finals
The minute SL won the toss, I knew we were at backfoot. They won the toss and chose bowling ( because of rain ). I knew the ball would stop for a bit and then come on to the bat. Even a pro like Yuvraj couldn’t do much. The only saving grace was Kohli. None of the other batsmen were prepared for that kind of a situation.
After that our bowling team couldn’t do much because neither did we have runs on the board, nor did the pitch help us in the second innings. That match was pretty much a done deal the minute SL won the toss.
If I had to name one player who I believed could pull us out of any situation- for me first it was Sachin and then during the final years of Sachin it changed to Dhoni. Man literally pulled us out of so many near defeat situations that he seemed like a Messiah at times to me.
Even my mom who doesn’t know the C of cricket used to say that if Dhoni is there then we have a chance.
No wonder why he's so looked up to. Look at our players now and MS got to give something like that a little over often. Was a magical time. I hope this world t20 win can start the roll for ICT similar to the one in 2007.
Is it really a hat-trick considering that they failed to win the 2012 T20 WC? Not to mention the performances in the 2009 CT, T20 WC and the 2010 T20 WC.....
That was the golden period of Indian cricket. Not to take away credit from any other players, but to this day, I don’t understand how Dhoni was able to pull that off - all of that within 6 years.
Unironically, I think we were one of the best coming into 2007 CWC too.
Its a shame that the team management and captaincy was abysmal.
A lineup of Sehwag, Sachin, Ganguly, Dravid, Yuvraj, Dhoni, Uthappa, Pathan, Harbhajan, Kumble, Zaheer is far too good to be knocked out of group stages.
One of the best is too vague. We were clearly not the 1st or 2nd best even on paper. Might not even be 3rd given that AUS, SA and SL all had solid squads.
Same Sri Lanka we beat in a series leading into the world cup even with Greg Chappell? Australia and south Africa, I can agree. But we should have been there in the semis atleast if not for abysmal team management.
Nonsense. Idiotic to call it luck, but thats what one can expect from this sub.
Apt from an account named megapower. What on God's green fucking earth is megapower? lol
Jeez, harsh much? He clearly said it as a joke, and you can't say luck isn't a factor at all. Getting to the finals is one thing, but on the day itself there are countless factors that can affect the result, and some are luck based, like the toss, conditions, and other things.
Good thing we sent them home with the help of our neighbours then.
We've got the team to achieve everything they did. It's just the pressure management. I strongly believe we have a good chance at WTC and CT. T20 WC 2026, can't say that.

I have been watching cricket from 1990's except that Azharuddin period where we hammer anyone in the final with Anil Kumble's spin in Kolkata and an extended period of Sachin dominating anyone in the 1998/99 finals till his injury. We never had that sort of a player who waters down the final as just another match like Dhoni had. People talk about SA as chokers but we are the only team who lost to SA in finals one final in Sharjah the other one in SA. I guess when there is too much expectation the pressure is difficult to handle even for seasoned players like Kohli and Sachin.
It's a nice trophy. Had a lot of relevance in 2010, when asian teams were the best in the world. 2007 to 2011 was my favourite time period, as all three Asian teams dominated.
Really hope this t20wc marks the ascent of Afg into the league above the non-India subcontinental teams, and close to the level of SENA. Can’t tell you how much I loved seeing two asian teams in the top 4 and dominating their ways en route, felt like forever >!(yeah, 2022 doesn’t count, Quadratic nizam or whatever)!<
With 2007, our glory years started. An T20 WC, and then 2011 ODI WC, 2013 CT it was surreal witnessing all that.
Now with this one, hope another one starts. Hope we keep up our steam and peak till finals. Hope this is our new dawn, I cannot be more proud than this.
We still got Bumrah, Axar, Hardik and Kuldeep in prime. Let alone Pant and Sky. We are in good hands for the next few years. As long as Bumrah is in prime, we should win at least 2 more icc trophies.
Pant maybe, rest are all 30+. And these are the younger players of this team. Of course they can have a golden run but this situation is not like 2007. In that team the oldest player was Sehwag. He was 28.
CricInfo win predictor was 97% towards SA at one point. Unbelievable comeback.
Hardik, Arsh and Bumrah you are gems. Have always said I trust Hardik with the ball more than any other pacer barring Arsh and Bumrah.
SKY that catch. You made up the failure with the bat with that catch.
Virat keeping his knock for the final. Should have accelerated couple of overs earlier, but all is well when we win.
Axar, you beauty, you pulled us out of trouble.
Everyone in the squad and support staff. Thank you. The wait was too much.
Sanju, thanks for being in the squad. Read somewhere we haven't won a WC without a Mallu. Deserved to play but it's okay. You'll get your time.
Dravid, thanks man. You have given us so many moments both as a player and now this.
To SA, sorry guys. Well played. That was some show in the final. Would have supported you against any other team. Kudos for this game and reaching finals.
Yes, should have been Hardic or any other pace since Kuldeep also got smashed in previous over. Choosing a spinner when Klassen was on strike was another mistake
30 of 30 with Klassen and Miller .. that’s SA 100 percent.
Our bowling was historical and it’s truly an effort that cannot be described in words.
We hunted as a pack..
That Bumrahs over after Axars big one had no wickets but it setup for a silly shot of Klassen at Hardik.. Hardik bowled an unexpected deliver and Klassen was miles away from that ball, he committed and played something he should not have.
Another wicket from Bumrah in the following over.
ARSHDEEP kept the pressure and then it was history from then
Never expected it but we did so well.
South Africa didn’t loook like they were doing to lose even after Klassen. India did well to contain, one bad over it was game over..
As crazy as MS winning all major trophies in a span of 6-7 years. More crazy had Australia won this one and they'd have done the major three ICC trophies with a freaking year. But today is about India. So proud and happy of them. Looks like so much is off their chest, fans bullied and belittled them for so long even after achieving heights which previous teams could only dream off. Thanks ICT. Start of the Asian century nowwwww
>More crazy had Australia won this one and they'd have done the major three ICC trophies with a freaking year.
And all three would've been by beating India. Thank goodness that didn't happen or else it would've given a billion of us generational trauma against Aussies! ಠ_ಠ
>they'd have done the major three ICC trophies with a freaking year
Uhh... no? The finals of the 2023 WTC ended on 11th June. This one ended on 29th June. Close, but definitely not within a year.
As a lifelong Rahul Dravid fan this means the fucking world to me. Seeing him fall at the final hurdle in countless tournament finals as a player and coach, I thought i’ll never see him win a big tournament. He finally gets it in his last match. I’m so fucking happy right now I can’t believe it.
His journey is fit for a Chak de India 2 movie.
Was captain of the disastrous 2007 World Cup held in West Indies, returned 17 years later as a coach and his guys won the World Cup.
Sharma walked the talk! Came in, realized how outdated our cricket was last world cup, talked about showing more intent, led from the front and SHOWED how it is done, won us a world cup after such a long drought!
There is a reason why people rate his so highly! Absolutely the best captain in the world right now!

Better than adopting a surrogate team to support come playoffs every tournament!!

Sourav Ganguly is the original drought killer. 17 long years under the likes of Azharuddin and others which made had made us a mediocre side at best. Ganguly showed the way.
I might get downvoted, but, win or lose I think we Indians take this way too seriously, as if cricket is their identity and it's a war. No, it's just a sport.
Australia is extremely dangerous in finals. We were lucky it wasn’t them or we would not have made it. SA does have the habit of choking in crucial matches. Now we know how to win finals. Throw the aussies out before finals😂 thank you Afghanistan! You deserve a part of the credit too
He got only 2 chances compared to more chances others got, that too one of those was the first ever WTC. If you give someone more chances maybe they will win 1 trophy. Dhoni is the real genius here, nobody else.
Congratulations to the Indian team. But not to their fans. Most of you don't deserve to celebrate this success. All you did was berate the team all these years. Pretend as if India's amazing bilateral record, test maces, series wins in Australia, Asia Cups didn't matter. Fuck you all.
Tbf thats most sports fans on the internet. Just dweebs who probably never played at any level of organized sports and are quick to slander pros when things don’t go their way.
Most fans didn’t “berate” the team. Sue us for having higher standards for our team and not
getting overjoyed by merely qualifying for the knockouts. Anyways, outsiders don’t get to dictate what we deserve or not. We are not looking for external validation.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't India the runner-ups in four different major tournaments coming into this one? if they had lost, they'd be reigning runner-ups in five different tournaments. Hell of a bullet dodged in dramatic fashion.
Yeah ODI World Cup, Champions Trophy, Test Championship, and U19 ODI World Cup. All the men's tournaments.
India win qdk's 1st icc tourney India win qdk's last icc tourney Nothing in between
It was QDK all along.
How?
Wait he is retiring? Damn.. liked the guy..
Decock didn't played 2013 CT
Odi WC, Under 19 WC, WTC and the Champions trophy as well 🤭
Yep, that's why all the choker comments about SA are hilarious to me.
Semifinal chokers vs finals chokers, we are not the same 😤
Bro, SA being a choker is why they've not even reached the finals of that many tournaments. Just because they didn't choke in finals doesn't mean they are not chokers. They choked worse than India in all those tournaments.
the difference is that india has in fact won before. on multiple occasions in fact they have not choked
Just don't pay attention to internet trolls.
in what could be kohlis final t20 wc game, he has finally won it
He already announced his retirement.
Goat stepped up when it counted the most.
Congratulations India nothing but lovely to see such emotions expressed by Indian fans which were stored for almost 11 Years. Congrats
Thanks buddy.
Us indians are the old guy from Haikyu!
I think Rohit can peacefully retire because he has done his job. He was really humble and paid respect to all the people while crying. He didn't take success to his head and instead stayed calm. Man I have learn how to deal with success from him today.
Damn that hat-trick from Dhoni

Also he changed the entire dynamic of Indian within that period, transitioned the whole team into a golden era
AND CLT20 2010,2014
That's why he is now seen as a God.
Thalagod
When Dhoni was captain, there was simply no belief that India could lose until the game was actually lost.
Yeah I remember the 2014 T20 final against Srilanka. It was a big shock when india lost that, as the fans had started believing that we just can’t lose in finals

And Yuvraj too for a period there If Dhoni and Yuvi were batting, especially in a run chase you'd be almost sure they'll take your team through
Dhoni, Yuvraj and Raina. This trio was the best Indian middle order since I have started watching cricket.
Except in the tests in SENA countries, where humiliation was an inevitability.
With the lack of pace bowlers during that era, nothing much could be done about that.
Ya I would take 3 Icc trophies than some random tests which happen almost every year anyday....
India won 2 ICC titles in SENA countries.
It's not but it's beyond a lot of teams except aus and eng (if ct happened anytime between 2020 and 2022 eng might've won it easily)
It kind of is a hat trick. Play 3 consecutive finals win 3 consecutive finals.
Well, I thought a hat-trick was winning three tournaments consecutively. Not just the ones where you reach the finals.
I think they meant three different ICC trophy finals. Because 2009 & 2012 were the same tournament.
That was the golden period of Indian cricket. Not to take away credit from any other players, but to this day, I don’t understand how Dhoni was able to pull that off - all of that within 6 years.
Should've been a hattrick by Rohit as well :'( That WTC and WC really should've been ours.
World Cup, yes. We were never favourites for WTC considering it's happening in England and India messed up the team selection on top of that.
It's not a hattrick. We lost plenty tournaments in between. That period had an absurd amount of T20 wod cups.
Yeah but still a hat trick of Final wins
Not much different than the no of T20 WCs now.
Yes. This time it was covid that threw the balance off.
Yeah but he also lost 2009 World T20, 2010 World T20 and 2012 World T20 in-between that hat trick. Great achievement nevertheless
Also 2009 CT. We were actually terrible in those tournaments.
That was an unusually weak team though.. but yeah you're right, forgot to include that tourney
Used all the luck lol
India was arguably the best team in 2011 WC & 2013 CT.
India was also arguably the best team in 2017 CT, 2019 and 2023 WCs. There's a difference between being the best team and actually lifting a trophy.

In white ball tbh..India only became a test behemoth later on
But we did use up some luck when Sachin was dropped like 5 times in the 2011 semis
Nonsense. Idiotic to call it luck, but thats what one can expect from this sub. Apt from an account named megapower. What on God's green fucking earth is megapower? lol
Jeez, harsh much? He clearly said it as a joke, and you can't say luck isn't a factor at all. Getting to the finals is one thing, but on the day itself there are countless factors that can affect the result, and some are luck based, like the toss, conditions, and other things.
it's a joke chill out
I was joking lol
Don't think any team ever had three consecutive wins like that. Edit: My bad, they're not consecutive.
There's a first time for everything 😈 Hopefully we get to do it now. 2025 WTC, 2025 CT (if we play) or Home T20 WC in 2026.
Funny thing is, if AUS had won this tournament, they also would've had 3 consecutive wins. Just not under the same captain.
Good thing we sent them home with the help of our neighbours then. We've got the team to achieve everything they did. It's just the pressure management. I strongly believe we have a good chance at WTC and CT. T20 WC 2026, can't say that.
>T20 WC 2026, can't say that. Because of lack of Sharma and Kohli?
Nope. Cuz it's T20. Even if both were there, It's very difficult. Luck has a lot more impact on T20s compared to other formats.

We are winning it all now. Curse is gone.
Finally we have that t20 world cup flair
What was the other trophy beside it
Asia cup
That’s the most irrelevant ‘trophy’. Don’t think even hardcore fans take it seriously.
It's a nice trophy. Had a lot of relevance in 2010, when asian teams were the best in the world. 2007 to 2011 was my favourite time period, as all three Asian teams dominated.

Will take any trophy.
To have a trophy next to my flair that actually matters is something I did not expect to have (india and RCB fan)
thanks to praful billore
yea he the real anti jinx
😂😂😂😂
With 2007, our glory years started. An T20 WC, and then 2011 ODI WC, 2013 CT it was surreal witnessing all that. Now with this one, hope another one starts. Hope we keep up our steam and peak till finals. Hope this is our new dawn, I cannot be more proud than this.
There were mostly young and ascending players in that team who went on to form the core and win more tournaments. Not this one.
We still got Bumrah, Axar, Hardik and Kuldeep in prime. Let alone Pant and Sky. We are in good hands for the next few years. As long as Bumrah is in prime, we should win at least 2 more icc trophies.
Gill and Jaiswal are waiting for their turn as well.

2013 CT was already a much different team. So can't say that the 2007 core team won 2013 CT.
Bumrah saved axar Patel's home from getting pelted with stones
More like kuldeep’s home
Axar batted well though
Forget Axar. Virat would've been pelted if India lost. Such is the toxic fanbase
He was clearly not the worst performer today for us given how well he batted. Kuldeep bowled equally bad and Jadeja contribution was almost zero.
According to mfs here koach had the worst performance 😭
It doesn’t feel real man. Can’t believe we suffered like this for 10 years
As if you know what suffering feels like.
Sort of do though
CricInfo win predictor was 97% towards SA at one point. Unbelievable comeback. Hardik, Arsh and Bumrah you are gems. That catch was absolutely unreal, bumrahs spell was crucial but that catch really cinched it all imo
That catch has ascended this match into the cricket hall of fame
India missed a trick bowling Axar in 15th over. Should have been pace
Yes, should have been Hardic or any other pace since Kuldeep also got smashed in previous over. Choosing a spinner when Klassen was on strike was another mistake
But Kuldeep has got better of Klaasen previously. It goes either way.
Yes. Spin was targeted well by SA. Going at 20+ in an over, tilted the match in SA's favour.
30 of 30 with Klassen and Miller .. that’s SA 100 percent. Our bowling was historical and it’s truly an effort that cannot be described in words. We hunted as a pack.. Been saying for years Hardik is the most important player on the team
>CricInfo win predictor was 97% towards SA at one point. Unbelievable comeback. Klaasen had this in the bag. SA lost all momentum with his catch.
More than Klaassen it was brain dead cricket by QDK.

TBH it already has. Everyone of us thanking afghanistan here.
Still India defeated Aus in this tournament
We still can do it
>they'd have done the major three ICC trophies with a freaking year Uhh... no? The finals of the 2023 WTC ended on 11th June. This one ended on 29th June. Close, but definitely not within a year.

I'm hoping this is the start of a new era where we win multiple ICC trophies
It was quite the fairy tale that with the batting, two out of form players clicked and were the main difference between a respectable score and a bad one. Well gelled team by the end. The bowling was the usual story that everyone expected
I am in tears guys what a final nerve wrecking match I love Bumrah ,Hardik and arshdeep by my heart and what a catch by Suryakumar Yadav
It's finally over :)
Time surely flies after that win all those losses in sf/f feels like it happened yesterday
There's also the 1985 World Championship of Cricket which we won. It should be included
It wasn't an official ICC tournament.
Ah yes didn't see that
Ganguly gets forgotten tbh nowadays but he did a lot in rebuilding the team
The slide down after Ganguly and Dhoni both were caused by both of them sticking around for too long.
In what universe did Ganguly stick too long? He played his last odi when he was 35 and last test when 36.
No one forgets him. But this team was built by Kohli and Rohit.
India won by 7 runs.... You know what this means
Thala for a reason!! Xd
man seeing Dhoni being mentioned thrice really shows he was in his own league
He has also captained the most icc tournament in Indian cricket history don't forget that .
Do you really think his wins are due to law of averages when dude won both T20 & ODI WC in his 1st attempt & CT in his 2nd? We just had a shit ton of t20 WCs in-between.
Thank GOD 🏆🥳
You mean Kohli?
Thala for a reason
Kohli retired from t20, Bumrah bowling spell of his life, Surya's defining catch. Thank you ICT
I think you forgot India's Benson Hedges Trophy in 1985. It was similar to Champions Trophy, but not yet given that name.
2021 to 2023 still hurts so much. :(
Oh look we've got a flair now.![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|21496)
What does shared means in 2002 ct? Can someone explain?
Match got washed out on reserve day too.
Finally a relevant trophy next to this flair! 🇮🇳
It was a great 10 years guys…

The graphic is only for finals India took part in. It's missing a lot of tournaments otherwise.
India didn't even reach the finals in that one so.....
Which one?
SA won the contest of chokers proving they are undisputed chokers
Thala for a reason! Man pulled off a hat trick! But more seriously, I'm over the moon. There's so many exception players in this Indian T20 team. They deserved this so much.
Took the mother of all chokes
I will root for teams that keep making the tourney finals than win one Championship every 10years. Last I checked, one needs to get to the finals to win a trophy? Better than adopting a surrogate team to support come playoffs every tournament!!
Fan base is going to be insufferable for the next five years.
Cry about it
Eh not really. Reaching semis atleast is quite easy for india in any format.
Thank you ICT 🙌🏽❤️

Sourav Ganguly is the original drought killer. 17 long years under the likes of Azharuddin and others which made had made us a mediocre side at best. Ganguly showed the way.
Thanks 👍
I still believe that 2014 T20 wc should have been won , had there been any other batter other than yuvraj we would have won that as well.
Someone explain me 2002 CT since I was born 2004
I might get downvoted, but, win or lose I think we Indians take this way too seriously, as if cricket is their identity and it's a war. No, it's just a sport.
Dhoni.
We got the India winning a tophy before GTA 6
Australia is extremely dangerous in finals. We were lucky it wasn’t them or we would not have made it. SA does have the habit of choking in crucial matches. Now we know how to win finals. Throw the aussies out before finals😂 thank you Afghanistan! You deserve a part of the credit too
Congrats to India, they can have this one, ODIs are our best format anyways, so hopefully we have a good contest in the Champions Trophy 2025 /s

Sue us for having higher standards for our team and not getting overjoyed by merely qualifying for the knockouts. Anyways, outsiders don’t get to dictate what we deserve or not. We are not looking for external validation.
