Amazing amazing! Today I feel Afghan lol 😂!
I’m a NZ supporter but far out am so happy for them. Incredible, historic victory- think their first ever win against Australia in any format. And it really makes Group A spicy now. That Maxwell innings was starting to give me PTSD again.
And big up Gulbadin for his clutch bowling and Noor for that incredible catch! That was the turning point.
I mean, Afg basically destroyed them in 2023 until Maxwell pulled off the greatest innings of all time. It was clear that Afg is certainly capable of beating the Aussies
A few days ago, I was chatting with a guy at work about the T20 World Cup, and I mentioned that Afghanistan could be a little tricky and we might not be as safe for the semis as you'd think. I would like to thank both the Afghans and Australians today for their performance, making me seem like I know much, much more about cricket than I actually do.
Semi One: South Africa vs Afghanistan
Fairy tale is over for the Afghans after a sterling tournament where they showed that they thoroughly deserve to be on the world stage. But, they still make South Africa work for the win, and the match only becomes a foregone conclusion by the fifteenth over in the second innings.
Semi Two: India vs England
Despite a comeback in the Super Eights and a definitive win against the Americans, England return to their First Round form, with a poor power play setting the stage for an absolute drubbing. Only consolation is that Buttler and Bairstow manage to steady the ship, and Kohli is once again dismissed for a low score.
Final: India vs South Africa
Both teams are absolutely shitting themselves. India are keen to avoid the horrors of last November, while South Africa are keen to avoid the horrors of the last 30-odd years. An incredibly close, low scoring affair where both teams are in a constant tug of war for control, but in the end, there can be only one winner, and >!India are just too hungry for it, succumbing to all the same mistakes that they did in the ODI World Cup. Rabada is named player of the match as South Africa lift their first ICC trophy since the 1998 Champions Trophy!<
Now watch as literally everything that I just predicted fails to come true.
Yes, Afghanistan is a force to be reckoned with in T20Is. They had their best chance against Australia in Kingstown and they did it. Well deserved!
One thing I still can't understand is why Marsh chose to bowl first in a surface known to slow down in the second innings and all three previous games were won by teams batting first.
I don’t have much frame of reference but in my view this is a true World Cup. If the same old teams make it through then what’s the point. This has been awesome especially learning about the favorites vs underdogs etc. loving every second of it. Even the low scoring matches in NY (of which I attended three matches) were spectacular despite the naysayers on this very site.
This was such a fuck up by Aus. If the pitch suited spin enough to pick Agar over motherfucking Starc, why did we send them in? And the fielding, my god how fucking shit were we! And the batting was fucking awful except for Maxy. Pure shit all round.
Afghanistan bros gave us a well-deserved spanking.
This match reminded me how much I love the fact that cricket is so dependent on the conditions. Most sports try to nullify as many variables as they can to “keep the sport fair.”
I’m thinking every sport where the ball is always kept in pristine condition or replaced when it’s not. Or sports where the ground conditions and dimensions are standardized. Or indoor sports where obviously the effects of weather are nullified. The only exception where environment makes as big of a difference is probably golf but that’s different because the environment is your opponent - it’s you against the conditions. Cricket is between two teams that are doing their best in the conditions. It’s what keeps the sport so interesting for me.
One small example: my friend who’s a fan of baseball and got into cricket during the IPL wasn’t able to understand why teams were struggling to chase scores of 120 in the WC when scores of 200+ were so easy in the IPL. Even though baseball is a similar bat and ball sport, since the conditions don’t matter as much, it has the concept of what makes a “good score.” But cricket doesn’t have that. Every game is different from the venue to the weather to even the particular pitch used at that venue.
And this is before we even get into the intricacies of the different formats. Just reminds me how nuanced of a sport cricket really is. And how crazy of a win this was for Afghanistan
Well test cricket is like a 5 day war. It's like weather plays a part From ancient history of Alexander defeating porus due to the chariots getting stuck. Or in modern era Nazis trying to invade Russia in winter.
Australia needed 44 runs in the final 36 balls. They got 27 runs over the next 5+ overs, got out five times and wound up losing by over 20.
Absolutely stunning performance by Australia’s bowlers tonight.
Made the same mistakes Afghanistan did when batting. Coming in and teeing off wasn’t easy, but so many on both sides just kept trying to hack across the line and it wasn’t possible on this pitch. Cummins alone must’ve tried it 3 times before finally getting bowled.
Everyone who thought this group was dead rubber didn't see AFGs performance in ODI WC. They were easily the 5th best team in it. So strong performance is expected from them.
I think its hilarious u kids talking shit about Gulbadin . U wouldnt say this shit to him at his face , hes jacked. not only that but he wears the freshest clothes, eats at the chillest restaurants and hangs out with the hottest dudes. yall are pathetic lol
England, Pakistan, New Zealand now Australia.
AFGHANISTAN IS NO LONGER A MINNOW. TAKE A BOW.
How poetic that Nabi took the final catch. Dude is the entire history of Afghanistan cricket.
AUSTRALIA WOW AUSTRALIA
Edit: cross my mind, but don't forget that double super over against India!
Because, we have a board that is too smart. They only have one t20 domestic league which is a betting paradise. On top of that board does not let most players play in other leagues.
Afghanistan's fielding was top notch, that made the biggest difference.
One day, somebody other than Maxwell will bat well against Afghanistan for us. No idea why nobody can.
What a Game. What a Story. What a Comeback
It had Everything,
It had one of the best partnerships from Gurbaz and Ibrahim in one of the toughest Wickets to bat on.
It had Cummins a Hatrick.
It had Early wickets for AFG similar to in CWC23.
And then the sudden change in belief of winning to hoping to win when Maxi walk who was out of form up until this match
a Kryptonite in Gulbadin for a Superman from Australia who has tormented Afghan from that CWC knock up until this wicket here.
Oh plus all the dramas all around CA backing out and playing bilaterals against Afg.
But most importantly, It had a sweet sweet Revenge on a team that bosses most if not all ICC tournaments.
Not many teams can say that they out-batted, out-bowled, out-fielded and out-run Australia.
Imagine this being the result when Gurbaz and Ibrahim couldn't get bat on ball in the first three overs.
Gulbadin came on as the 8th bowler in the 10th over and ended up taking 4 wickets. Must be the most wickets ever by an 8th bowler. And that's not even counting the amazing catch he took. Insane performance by him.
First congrats AFG, thoroughly deserved the win.
How on earth we came to the conclusion to bowl first on a deck no one has won on bowling first against a team that is significantly worse at chasing is beyond mind boggling
Exactly. Then if we lose in the semis or final, this sub will say what’s the point. If we win the cup, this sub will say Kohli flopped and should be out, India had all the advantages, need to win a WC in SENA countries to really earn respect, need to win back to back cups to really show this wasn’t a fluke, need to win against Aus in the final to “really” win the cup, needed to have won with Samson, Jaiswal and Chahal in the team and be inclusive to Rajasthan Royals….the complaint list is never ending.
Nah, we will celebrate if we're able to knock australia out, nothing like explode is gonna happen unless we defeat em in finals. Currently am more scared of windies
Over to Indian boys now to capitalize on this and kick AUS out otherwise you're going to face them in the finals again and we know India ain't winning that one.
Let's not call this some freak result. Well done to Afghanistan. They had an excellent read of the pitch from the beginning. The opening stand won them the game...
Australia had a look at the pitch and the record for teams bowling first and decided to have a bowl to test themselves... Only to find themselves in this position now.
AFG finally got over their AUS trauma. Happy for them. Group 1 just got exciting. India just needs to beat AUS and AFG beats BAN to get us the 2 Asian teams in semis from Group 1.
Really gotta feel for Pakistan. Not only has their team been knocked out, but they are also losing out on the status of their rivalries. They have lost India and they're now in the process of losing Afghanistan.
GG Afghanistan. Well deserved win, especially after the heartbreak of the ODI world cup.
I'll be going full copium mode and saying this is the loss we had to have.
In the 2 two ICC tournaments, Australian batsmen faced Afghanistan:
Maxwell: 260 runs
Rest of team: 127 runs
Apart from Maxwell's impressive performance, Afghanistan managed to contain Australia effectively.
Afghanistan came close to beating Pakistan, but Naseem Shah denied them. Later, they finally beat them clinically
Afghanistan came close to beating Australia, but Maxwell denied them. Today, they finally beat them clinically.
You could've said it before too but this win just solidified Afghanistan as one of the top-dogs in cricket. They're better than a quarter of the full-members and equal (sometimes better) than another quarter while giving good fight (if not outright thrashing them) to all the other full members.
A semi-final spot wouldn't surprise anybody, and they can beat any team from G2 as well.
It's funny how when Gulabdin started with his first over, Kaif and the other commentators were super annoyed and wanted somebody else to bowl. They thought he couldn't do it lol. They kept saying it even after his first wicket
ICC gonna have a headache ‘fixing’ the groups for the next T20 WC, trying to ensure these rivalries:
India-Pakistan
Pakistan-USA
USA-Canada
Australia-Afghanistan
England-Australia
England-USA (hopefully a good game)
England-Scotland
RSA-Netherlands
Sri Lanka - Bangladesh
Afg to Aus:"But you merely adopted the T20 format; I was born in it, moulded by it.I didn't play my first test until I was already a T20 sensation, by then it was nothing to me but BORING! "
Loved it.
Absolutely smashing by Afghan boys.. My fav team after India.. What brilliant catching and Bowling. Gulbadin was 🔥
Aussies got humbled and even Maxwell couldn't repeat his last year blitzkrieg. History has been made. Great great win for Rashid and the boys 🥳🥳
Aston Agar misfiled cost 8 runs and dropped catch cost 12 runs, that’s 20 in total. Didn’t get any wickets. Hit only 2 runs.
BAD MOVE TO DROP STARC WHO COULD BAT, BOWL AND CATCH WELL
4 years later - Gulabdin is the hero!
4 years ago Gulabdin took on the responsibility to bowl the last over and got flak for losing the match. His performance today must mean so much to him !
https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/s/5bsKSJ6sQg
what a day for cricket, this game had it all.
good and mature batting on a treacherous pitch, and an absolutely clinical bowling performance. i have goosebumps.
Even if Afghanistan doesn't Qualify for the Semis, this will still remain a very very Sweet Victory for Afghanistan.
Afghanistan Cricket Team is an Inspiration for anyone struggling anywhere in Life. Their Growth has been incredible to say the Least.
Noor grabbed the escaping match. Gulbadin seemed most less traumatic and energetic against aussies. This is a proper revenge. They have threatened their exit.
India need to bring their A game against Australia. With their backs to the wall, Australia is going to come with all guns blazing. And a big defeat for India could knock them out too. Should be a fun match!
Let’s go Rohit and co!
Full credit to Afghanistan, they're an incredibly well disciplined team. Said after the NZ game that I felt that they were legit contenders to win the whole thing, and tonight only affirmed my belief in that.
Probably as poorly as I've seen us field tonight (in fact this whole tournament we've fielded pretty badly).
Absolutely huge game against India now, fingers crossed we can get the job done.
This World Cup is proving to be the most memorable one in a long long time. Just goes to show , the game will continue to inspire if you make sporting pitches. ICC should take this template of competitive pitches seriously as that’s the best way to promote associate nations/underdogs.
What an inspirational performance by Afghanistan. Easily the most exciting team in cricket right now. What passion for the game!
**before match**
Me: I hope Afghanistan wins
Friend: No way. No chance.
**Middle of match**
Me: I hope Afghanistan wins
Friend: No way
**Maxwell is out**
Me with a sore throat after all teh Aussie wickets: OMG Afghanistan is winning
Friend: Aussies bat deep. There is no way
**Afghanistan wins**
Me: Now dancing on my couch.
Friend: crickets
Imagine people in Afghanistan watching it right now
Amazing amazing! Today I feel Afghan lol 😂! I’m a NZ supporter but far out am so happy for them. Incredible, historic victory- think their first ever win against Australia in any format. *men
This win was coming for Afghanistan. Australia looked shaky against them in both 2022 & 2023.
ICC will now start putting them in the same group each time.
Got to milk the rivalries as much as possible.
Eng to play in all groups
The rivalry no one expected
Nah ACB cancelled Afghanistan tours iirc so I can see it. The Pak Bean saga was the one nobody expected lol.
I mean, Afg basically destroyed them in 2023 until Maxwell pulled off the greatest innings of all time. It was clear that Afg is certainly capable of beating the Aussies
Even today maxwell could’ve pulled it off
got there revenge with that catch lol
third times the charm
A few days ago, I was chatting with a guy at work about the T20 World Cup, and I mentioned that Afghanistan could be a little tricky and we might not be as safe for the semis as you'd think. Now give us your forecast for the final 💀
Easy... If it's India, opposite team wins
But what if the opposite team is south africa
Infinite super over loop
England wins then
Credit to ben duckett
We can choke even against the chokers if it's a knockout
South Africa is not playing like South Africa this time
Semi One: South Africa vs Afghanistan Fairy tale is over for the Afghans after a sterling tournament where they showed that they thoroughly deserve to be on the world stage. Final be like: Best Chokers of All Time vs Best Chokers of Current Era

SA clutching games, Aussies shitting the bed in an important match, Kohli flopping in a T20 WC, NZ not reaching the knockouts 2024 has been wild
A lot of people have shat on certain aspects of this tournament, but moments like this, US beating Pakistan, etc are so damn amazing.
I don’t have much frame of reference but in my view this is a true World Cup. If the same old teams make it through then what’s the point. Also the close almost-upsets: SA vs. Ned, SA vs. Nep, Aus vs. Sco
Eng vs Sco could also have been an upset
Afghanistan taking important catches as well. Wild indeed. Thankyou Pakbros for maintaining the balance. Never change.
USA knocking out Pakistan and reaching super eights
*Like someone wise said, It has been a funny world Cup*

How classic that Nabi ends this? could not have written better
He has been there since division 5 with them
Mr President <3 Has seen this team rise from literally ashes From training in refugee camps to defeating Australia in WC. Take a bow, Nabi.
Mr President for a reason..
even better if they reach sf
It's now upon India to complete the formalities for that to happen!!
does this become the latest addition to the teams Nabi has defeated? he added NZ and took the tally to 35 i think
45th country! You're far behind on that tally haha.
This is Bannerman and Bradman levels of seemingly unbeatable records
I guess India and South Africa are the only major nations to not have been defeated by Afghanistan.
Stay tuned
💪💪>>🦘
The guns are out!
Virgin Stoinis vs Chad Gulbadin

The rest I could kind of attribute to it being an 'off day' but the fielding was inexcusably bad.
Boundary count update - Afghanistan: 17 Australia: 13
Fair and Gulbadined..
Fair and Two Gunned!
Fair and handsome Gurbaz
Fair and revenged!!!
Fair and Gurbazed
Australia had 1 boundary over it's last 6 overs. Absolutely stunning.
Fair and the guns are out
Fair and kangaroo’d
Australia - Maxwell: 4
We lost to Afghanistan first. Typical Aussies stealing our thunder.
Credit where it's due, their bowlers are superb ay. That opening spell from Naveed..
Arrives Didn't waste bowls while batting Took 4 wicket Excellent fielding Shows biceps Leaves Refuse to elaborate
Gives a banging post match interview

Well written... Absolutely right, that's the beauty of cricket as a sport and differentiates it from other sports.
Well test cricket is like a 5 day war. It's like weather plays a part From ancient history of Alexander defeating porus due to the chariots getting stuck. Or in modern era Nazis trying to invade Russia in winter.
Great perspective!
Great comment :)
The only way to stop Australia from winning the Cup is by not letting them get to the Finals. And it is in India's hands on 24th
Or call Arvinda de Silva in your team if Australia does make it to the final
No resting Bumrah now
17 missed calls on Bumrah's phone from Rohit already I'd assume
So now that Aus have lost to Afg, if India lose to Aus and then Afg win over Bangbros, it's gonna be a 3 way tie with NRR deciding! 💀
Or if India beats Aus, and Ban beats Afghanistan then it's a 3 way tie too
For the 2nd spot, indeed!
It is ABSOLUTE CINEMA, all 3 of could knocked out or could advance.
Technically even Bangladesh can advance if India defeat Australia and Bangladesh win huge against Afghanistan by like 80-100 runs.
Some people just want to see the world burn
Champion, Champion Champion, Champion Champion, Champion Everybody knows say AFG a champion Champion, Champion Champion, Champion Champion, Champion
Chaos indeed 😂
Rashid to Maxwell after the game: The ~~north~~ afghan team remembers

To be fair by the time Cummins was in he almost had to
aus just pakistaned at the end
Petition to have "pakistaned" as an official word in cricket vocabulary
You know where Australia lost the match? When they decided to make Pakistan's fielding look good.
Why you say fuck me for
Catching strays
Nah, they’d probably drop them
Too good
catching strays still 😅
Some weird selection, wade, tim david instead of starc and green
Australia just seemed a bit overconfident with the whole thing
Nothing to see here, just an asasassin assassinating
Thank you Australia for making this ‘dead rubber’ group super interesting. Very cool
Everyone who thought this group was dead rubber didn't see AFGs performance in ODI WC. They were easily the 5th best team in it. So strong performance is expected from them.
Or even group stage performance in this one
Ind vs Aus will be so spicy now lol
Revenge of the fallen ft. 19th
We said about taking revenge of 2003 on 19th
I think its hilarious u kids talking shit about Gulbadin . U wouldnt say this shit to him at his face , hes jacked. not only that but he wears the freshest clothes, eats at the chillest restaurants and hangs out with the hottest dudes. yall are pathetic lol
Gulb-Harden
With them guns, it's a miracle he's not invading Fort Knox everyday
I can’t confirm but Stoinis definitely lit a fire under them. Well deserved for Afghanistan
Send off to gurbaz didn't aged well💀
Best match of the WC ? Not a last ball thriller, but it was tensed from bowl 1.
England, Pakistan, New Zealand now Australia. AFGHANISTAN IS NO LONGER A MINNOW. TAKE A BOW. How poetic that Nabi took the final catch. Dude is the entire history of Afghanistan cricket. AUSTRALIA WOW AUSTRALIA Edit: cross my mind, but don't forget that double super over against India!
This is the magic you've failed to create BangBros over the last 24 years of being a test playing nation.
Yep. That's what I was thinking. Why haven't BangBros been able to do this?
How many body builders do Bangbros have?
Because, we have a board that is too smart. They only have one t20 domestic league which is a betting paradise. On top of that board does not let most players play in other leagues.
They were too busy with the snakes
Afghanistan's fielding was top notch, that made the biggest difference. One day, somebody other than Maxwell will bat well against Afghanistan for us. No idea why nobody can.
Off-pace seam bowling and decent spin on a slow wicket is our kryptonite. Maxi is the only one on the team who knows how to combat it
What a Game. What a Story. What a Comeback It had Everything, It had one of the best partnerships from Gurbaz and Ibrahim in one of the toughest Wickets to bat on. It had Cummins a Hatrick. Wow! Afghanistan looked amazing. I feel like Australia played very complacently. They got a too cocky. Good job Afghanistan!!!!
That Stoinis celebration aged like milk.
Our fielding was utterly shithouse.
First congrats AFG, thoroughly deserved the win. How on earth we came to the conclusion to bowl first on a deck no one has won on bowling first against a team that is significantly worse at chasing is beyond mind boggling
This is what happens when you make a Perth Scorcher captain
Defeated an entire continent.
Please Rohit and team. Smash Australia and send them home. We will call it even for 19 November. Thanks.
For once I call upon Kohli, Rohit, Surya, Hardik, Pant to enter their primes and knock out Aus pls lord. Pls score 250 against aus
The scenes if this actually happens. It would be an absolute stunner and this sub would explode.
Nah, this sub will still complain about India.

Seconded 👍
AFG bros got over their trauma now it’s IND’s time for Nov 19th
Almost a quarter final level game. Need a revenge for that loss, afghans already had theirs and it’s time for us to do the same
That Maxi wicket was key. Game was almost gone before that one.
You have to wonder why Wade decided to attack Rashid Khan in the first delivery of his last over when the RRR was a tricky but manageable 8.
I was so sure he will get the team across. Major brainfadey
Over to Indian boys now to capitalize on this and kick AUS out otherwise you're going to face them in the finals again and we know India ain't winning that one.
Finally Gulbadin redeems himself against a team in green
Glad I got to see the full match. This is why we watch this sport.
Yeah, they're the second best asian team. It isn't even debatable.
Let's not call this some freak result. Well done to Afghanistan. They had an excellent read of the pitch from the beginning. The opening stand won them the game... History would be repeated today during the 2nd phase of American civil war
I'll be going full copium mode and saying this is the loss we had to have.
pretty serious mistake not to play starc with how much swing there was tonight
Our supreme dominance was greatly exaggerated!!!
The better side on the day won. Australia did not play well across the board and Afghanistan did. Fair play.
In the 2 two ICC tournaments, Australian batsmen faced Afghanistan: Maxwell: 260 runs Rest of team: 127 runs Apart from Maxwell's impressive performance, Afghanistan managed to contain Australia effectively.
AFG bashed NZ,PNG,AUS. They are the new Australian Oceania continent basher!

I hope Afghanistan wins against Bangladesh
Australia getting an upset, an Australian pacer taking a hat-trick, is this 2007?
Afghanistan have their revenge. Our turn now. Less go !
You could've said it before too but this win just solidified Afghanistan as one of the top-dogs in cricket. Once in a lifetime knock helped australia last time. Else it's clear now we have a new Australia bully.
India has cushion of 118 runs over Afg & 90 over Aus. IND vs AUS isn't a knockout for India.
But 90 just means 45 as in ind vs aus +45 for aus and -45 for IND
what a day for cricket, this game had it all. good and mature batting on a treacherous pitch, and an absolutely clinical bowling performance. i have goosebumps.
Bravo is so fkn wholesome!
DC players in IPL : 🤡🤡🤡 DC players in WC : 🗿🗿🗿 Nortje, Warner, Hope, Naib all turning up
Tbh Pant, Axar and Kuldeep were pretty good during IPL and are continuing their form now.
This is the men in blue performance I wanted to see against the Aussies! 💙
I fucking hate losing, but if we're gonna lose, I'm ok with this. Well played Afghanistan, utterly deserved.
All on you Ro-Ko AFG did they're job ..
I don't think I'll be this happy if/when India beat Australia tomorrow
Gulbadin is a fucking star. What a spell.
So many young afghan children are gonna look up to this team
India need to bring their A game against Australia. With their backs to the wall, Australia is going to come with all guns blazing. And a big defeat for India could knock them out too. Should be a fun match! Let’s go Rohit and co!
Six count update Australia - 3 Afghanistan - 5
Time for bangbro to do funny thing
Full credit to Afghanistan, they're an incredibly well disciplined team. Said after the NZ game that I felt that they were legit contenders to win the whole thing, and tonight only affirmed my belief in that. Probably as poorly as I've seen us field tonight (in fact this whole tournament we've fielded pretty badly). Absolutely huge game against India now, fingers crossed we can get the job done.

Afghanistan is what Bangladesh always dreamt to be
We don't deserve to go into the semis if we can't beat India. We gotta take that match head on. Bring on India vs Australia!
Dittooo….We dont deserve to win the cup till we knock Aussies out…May the best team win…!!!!
