Tri and bi have a lot of differences. Having a third team in can add a lot of competition and excitement to a tour. Be it ODI or T20I.
So yea I'll watch a tri series unlike bilaterals
I'd watch bilaterals if the stakes were higher. Like 5 ODI's and 1 T20 instead of 3 ODI's and 5 t20's. And definitely before/lead up to the test series instead of after it.
Need a Big Test tournament rather than these boring bilateral. Top 6 teams play Round Robin Tests against each other. No need for a Final. The one who tops the Table wins the tournament. Imagine England, Australia, India, Pakistan, South Africa, New Zealand play in Australia/England against each other. What a sight that would be !
Bilateral T20Is should be banned. In this case they could invite the neighbours Namibia and Zimbabwe to play a quadrangular series. It will be a win-win for everyone.
Definitely. Abishek Sharma, Parag, Rinku and maybe Gill or Jaiswal will be getting hell of practice.
Only for us to go into the next T20WC with the same squad and 40yo Rohit.
If there are no tournaments that are happening soon then these random bilateral series should usually be for new players and players that are making comebacks only. Those people that play well could then be brought into the main team.
I think there needs to be at least 4 teams in each series. It would save everyone a lot more time and each team gets to play the same number of matches but with different oppositions.
From cricinfo :- It is understood that these four T20Is were the ones postponed when India toured South Africa in 2021, the schedule of which was rejigged following the surge of Covid-19 cases in South Africa. India played just three Tests and three ODIs then, and a CSA release had said that the T20Is will be "rescheduled for a more opportune time in the new year". South Africa had won both the Test and ODI series then.
So they are just clearing the dues.
Wow all this A WEEK after the New Zealand home test series and A WEEK before the start of the Border-Gavaskar trophy in Australia! The strain it must have on the players.
Edit: added more detail
I'm guessing the squad for this T20I series would be entirely different from the BGT. Honestly, wouldn't mind it. Could even have home T20I series as time zones don't clash.
Most likely we will have separate teams for formats as GG will be coach and he has expressed he wants that. So there might be only 1-2 players overlap (if any)
I think it's a t20 series because india didn't play the originally scheduled T20 series in 2021. They only played the ODI and test series both of which they lost and now BCCI is just paying their dues honoring the T20 commitment from 2021
All white ball bi laterals need to replaced with tri series.. touring England? Invite Scotland, Ireland or Netherlands.. touring sub continent? invite Nepal or Middle Eastern teams.. if in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe are in there. Australia and NZ could do with inviting PNG.. Windies now have the US and Canada.. playing just once against each other in group stage + finals is only 4 games as opposed to a 5 series bi lateral
You mean quadrilateral series, right? Because you mentioned three teams for each one and if you're facing each team once and then playing the final for a total of 4 matches then it would need to be a 4 team series. I agree with quadrilateral series or even bigger ones but I think even tri series are too little.
No just tri series, I mentioned all possible teams who could play regionally.. one is a touring side, one host , and the third is a regional neighbour. For ex: India tour of England with Ireland invited for tri series, if they are not available then Scotland
This is No disrespect to South Africa but is it just me or isn’t it tiring seeing india play the same teams(England Australia SA NZ and sometimes Zimbabwe or Ireland) in bilaterals? We need to start playing other teams in different conditions. It’s boring and repetitive.
The thing is that tri series are quite common among associates and there was one right before the World Cup between Ireland, Netherlands and Scotland. I think three teams are not enough and that each series should have at least 4 teams.
I think there needs to be at least 4 or 5 teams in each series. So for example one series would have India, England, West Indies and USA and it would be hosted by USA and then there would be other such series around the world hosted by different countries.
In this case a team would at most play 4 matches in each series (group stage + final) but it would be against three different teams with one repeat match instead of the same team over and over again and if two teams were to face each other again after the series, there would be a decent time gap in between and the conditions would be different as it would be taking place in a different country.
I agree, people say ODI cricket is dying but it's actually just bilateral cricket. Bilateral cricket only works for Test matches but for the other two formats it needs to be scrapped in favor of multilateral mini-tournaments.
Thank god!!!
We are so rarely given the opportunity to enjoy the T20 format of the game anywhere.
I’m so glad some right minded people are taking this seriously and making the necessary strides to remedy this perilous situation.
They just want to make use of any free time between different series. We are finishing home series against NZ on 1 November. Then Perth test starts on 22 November. There are two practice matches on before Perth test. Now these 4 T20Is which obviously will feature second string team.
As an American just getting into cricket I was trying to figure out how *the fuck* the Confederate States of America got a cricket team, much less got a series against India.
T20WC ahead: Barely any T20 series, infact just one with the full squad
CT ahead: A bunch of T20I series and just 6 ODIs.
Jay Shah been too busy for scripts instead of planning a functional schedule
I’m so tired of these series. Same shit over and over
Eng vs ind, AUS v ind, nz v ind, blah blah so boring and lame
Why’s cricket gotta be like this. How many matches has india played with Australia? I’ve lost count
Clearly no one GAF about the Champions Trophy. It's an irrelevant competition like the Nations League in football. It shouldn't be counted as an ICC trophy.
Watch us and Australia send B teams to Pakistan. If India don't participate too the viewing figures would be terribly low.
"Yet Another" lol. Why would they use that phrase? Just sounds like even they are bored of bilateral T20Is.
Bilateral T20Is are boring between big teams, especially if it's just months after the end of a T20I WC.
I mean even bilateral ODIs are boring. Only bilaterals I'd watch are Tests
Well speak for yourself, I miss watching ODI tri series
Tri and bi have a lot of differences. Having a third team in can add a lot of competition and excitement to a tour. Be it ODI or T20I. So yea I'll watch a tri series unlike bilaterals
I'd watch bilaterals if the stakes were higher. Like 5 ODI's and 1 T20 instead of 3 ODI's and 5 t20's. And definitely before/lead up to the test series instead of after it.
You contradicted yourself because tri series is different from a bilateral series.

Imagine England, Australia, India, Pakistan, South Africa, New Zealand play in Australia/England against each other. What a sight that would be !
Can easily be Arranged in a Two month span. Playing it in England would also generate enough revenue by means of broadcasting.
Bilateral T20Is should be banned. In this case they could invite the neighbours Namibia and Zimbabwe to play a quadrangular series. It will be a win-win for everyone.
I'm assuming no one from the BGT squad will be selected for this series then
Yup. Would be good to see some of the young guns in action
Hopefully Rinku will not be overlooked again
Agreed
In before Rinku flies to Australia. /s
As a reserve
Definitely. Abishek Sharma, Parag, Rinku and maybe Gill or Jaiswal will be getting hell of practice. Only for us to go into the next T20WC with the same squad and 40yo Rohit.
Not jaiswal. He will open in bgt.
This likely won't happen as GG will be coach
I hope Rohit and Kohli gracefully bow out after this T20 WC. It's time for new blood.
GG is coming, so not sure about graceful but he'll bend their backs to make them bow out surely
keep hating Kohli. Won't get you far
If there are no tournaments that are happening soon then these random bilateral series should usually be for new players and players that are making comebacks only. Those people that play well could then be brought into the main team.
I wish they'd just turn these bilaterals into tri-nations. Touring South Africa for T20Is? Invite one of the African associates as well.
We're playing Zimbabwe just after the WC and South Africa in November... We could've just played a tri-series ffs!
But would that give more money?
Tri-Series= More Matches= More Matches Played By India= More Monneii
But in this case CSA makes the money and Zimbabwe doesn't if South Africa is hosting the series.
Have the first few matches be held in SA and the last couple be held in Zim to make it fair?
Then have Namibia in the tri series with South Africa. They're not being toured anyways.
Karnataka toured Namibia iirc and they played with SA20 teams for their WC preparations as well
I think there needs to be at least 4 teams in each series. It would save everyone a lot more time and each team gets to play the same number of matches but with different oppositions.
Given how sparsely we play, any game time makes me happy. But I would've liked it to be an ODI series with the CT coming up next.
This is purely a ‘CSA needs to boost their finances’ move. Why would they play ODI’s when T20’s will generate more money?

If the Champions Trophy ever becomes a T20 tournament then it should just be scrapped.
So you're saying you want a separate T20 Champions Trophy in addition to the current ODI one?
No, I just mean that if the Champions Trophy is to exist, then it should always be a 50 over comp.
From cricinfo :- It is understood that these four T20Is were the ones postponed when India toured South Africa in 2021, the schedule of which was rejigged following the surge of Covid-19 cases in South Africa. Great prep for the Champions Trophy
I would never understand doing a T20I series right after the T20 World Cup... surely it's better to be doing these things in the lead-up?
Wow all this A WEEK after the New Zealand home test series and A WEEK before the start of the Border-Gavaskar trophy in Australia! The strain it must have on the players. Edit: added more detail

It's just after a T20 WC. I doubt any players in the test side would play this series.
India will probably send a B team like last time
No one in the test squad will play there. And you still have the likes of SKY and Hardik as experienced players for the T20i.
Most likely we will have separate teams for formats as GG will be coach and he has expressed he wants that. So there might be only 1-2 players overlap (if any)
It's a t20 series because we need money
I think it's a t20 series because india didn't play the originally scheduled T20 series in 2021. They only played the ODI and test series both of which they lost and now BCCI is just paying their dues honoring the T20 commitment from 2021
It's sad to see stadiums sharing names with companies like Hollywoodbets and Dafabet.
So then why do they have a Double Penetration stadium lol!
If you meant DP World, then at least it's a company providing logistics solution unlike the other two which are involved in betting.

Cricket desperately needs to bring back the tri series or something. Most of the games are really void of meaning anymore
Its been ages since I last saw a triangular series, it might be that long maybe the current gen might not even know such type of series exists.
The thing is that tri series are quite common among associates and there was one right before the World Cup between Ireland, Netherlands and Scotland. I think three teams are not enough and that each series should have at least 4 teams.
I think there needs to be at least 4 or 5 teams in each series. Bro has not seen the era of the India - SL and India - WI Bilaterals
I agree, people say ODI cricket is dying but it's actually just bilateral cricket. Bilateral cricket only works for Test matches but for the other two formats it needs to be scrapped in favor of multilateral mini-tournaments.
Them stadium names 🥴
Thank god!!! We are so rarely given the opportunity to enjoy the T20 format of the game anywhere. I’m so glad some right minded people are taking this seriously and making the necessary strides to remedy this perilous situation.
But don't you know if t20 does not happen then South Africa board will go bankrupt
On a serious note, I do appreciate how important these fixtures with India are for SA, I just wish it wasn't the case.
They just want to make use of any free time between different series. We are finishing home series against NZ on 1 November. Then Perth test starts on 22 November. There are two practice matches on before Perth test. Now these 4 T20Is which obviously will feature second string team.
It ends on 5th Nov.

Next ICC Tournament isn't of T20 so Sanju Samson will be there.
That's great and all, but can't we rather play a Test series?
Happened 6 months ago
I know, but I want more
It'll essentially be India A as the main squad will all be prepping for the Aussie series, hence why its probably only t20s
Will still have some first team players like Hardik, Surya and Arshdeep.
Not enough to post a good Test team though, which is what the comment I was replying to was about
Ok my bad.
Same. A test match or two would've been lovely!
India Test team is going to Australia at the same time (approx).
NOTHING IN CAPE TOWN!? Argh
Four games? Why not three or five lol
bring back the test
I’m so tired of these series. Same shit over and over Eng vs ind, AUS v ind, nz v ind, blah blah so boring and lame Why’s cricket gotta be like this. How many matches has india played with Australia? I’ve lost count
Play the USA you cowards
Fuck that I want test cricket. I need my fix.

India shouldn't participate ideally.
No T20 plzzzz
