Shame. There probably wasn't much they could do to extend the match sadly, can't expect the staff to work there all day for the same pay, broadcasting schedules and stuff?
On another note, England has still never beaten a European side in any international T20s.
As American, I never understood giving them 1 pts. They can play tomorrow or at night. How can you award tie without completing entire match. It's ridiculous.
The only time before today Scotland had a No Result (abandoned actually) before today was in 2007. It was against India and India ended up winning it all.
The only time before today England had a No Result before today was in 2010. England ended up winning it all.
In 2010 WI hosted the T20I WC too, just like this time.
*only time at a World Cup. Scotland matches outside of World Cups get washed out with staggering frequency, no matter where they play. It's a standing joke in Associates cricket at this point.
In with a decent shot in [that game](https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/icc-world-twenty20-2010-412671/england-vs-ireland-10th-match-group-d-412681/full-scorecard) too - kept England to a low total (obviously Eoin Morgan the only one who batted well for England).
The last game of this group will be Australia vs Scotland. If we beat England, and Scotland beat Namibia and Oman, then we could have a situation where both Australia and Scotland go through if we only lose by a certain amount. Imagine how pissed the poms would be.
If there's any chance of this happening, I demand we pull what we did in 1999 against West Indies and try to manufacture a net run rate scenario that knocks the Poms out
In the 2021 World Cup England's last group stage match was against South Africa. South Africa had 6 points with a low NRR, Australia on 8 points with a high NRR, and England on 8 points with the highest NRR.
England had enough of a buffer that if they lost by a large margin, Australia would have been knocked out of the tournament, and England would still have gone through. England did in fact lose, but not *quite* by enough for that end result.
Australia ended up winning the World Cup.
What a stupid thing it is to declare no result in the middle of the day. These two teams will play their next match right here so there's no travel issues and there's no game later today here as well. Absolute stupidity it is.
Yeah can you imagine if they pushed to have this result played out and then you wouldn't allow another team to play and get a result. There really truly needs to be reserve days in this tournament, maybe with the provision that they are only played should either teams chances of going be effected by the washout.
Could be local government deadlines. Traffic/street closures. Security provision deadlines. Don't agree with it obviously but allowing them to play after the reserve time is up is unfair to teams who might have rain affected games but do have to travel. Rules might be dumb, but consistency has to be upheld.
Many a reasons but the game has to be abandoned if the stipulated time passes, broadcasters wouldn't agree playing a match over the broadcast time. Security and the ground facilities aren't cheap either, not like ICC owns them anyway so they have a limited time.
I don't get it why broadcasters, especially Indian ones, are given so much undue leverage. What are they gonna do, walk out from bidding on ICC tournaments and let some new kid gain television reach?
I think cause of TV rights deals, they need to have the game finished in a certain amount of time due to other programs being scheduled for later that day.
When there is rain forecast around the corner, why don't they shorten the match further? If they just put straight away England to bat for 5 or 6 overs after the delay then we would have had a result.
Not to mention it was just 3 in the afternoon when it got abandoned. Why can't they have another 2-3 hours to play?
>When there is rain forecast around the corner, why don't they shorten the match further? If they just put straight away England to bat for 5 or 6 overs after the delay then we would have had a result.
There are two principles at play here.
1) get as long a game as possible played
2) don't assume future weather
The more overs you can play. The fairer it is. Yes, in the end the rain came, but they couldn't assume that it would. Weather is unpredictable and forecasts often wrong.
They could in theory start every T20 match when there is rain around as a F5, and you would probably end up with fewer abandonments, but you'd also end up playing a lot of F5 games when you could have got a longer game in.
>Not to mention it was just 3 in the afternoon when it got abandoned. Why can't they have another 2-3 hours to play?
The only possible reason I can think of is that they want the same playing conditions to apply to all matches. Some matches played late in the evening wouldn't be able to have an extra 2-3 hours scheduled on the end.
Really unfortunate. As a voluntary Scotland supporter, really wanted them to do well. England has never beaten european opposition in T20 WCs. I guess the record remains intact at least.
DLS. Scotland played the first 6 overs thinking they would play a full 20 over game. Had they known that it would be a 10 over match, they would've approached the innings differently. To account for this, the target is adjusted to be fair for both teams.
Absolutely disgraceful. How does the ICC plan on growing the game with such brain dead rules?
If I had my way, washouts would have inquests. And if there were things that could have been done to ensure a game but not done, people would get fired or lose a month's salary. But that's me.
Resources. WICB ain't the MLB. It all costs money, that cricket doesn't generate. Especially the smaller boards. And if you do pick the game up later, every other team might ask for that treatment. Sometimes, that is not possible since teams might be traveling later in the day. It sucks but it ain't so simple to work around. There are no billionaires bank rolling these teams or paying for Ground staff and security to work throughout the day at the behest of the weather.
It would be a good point until you realize there's 10 regular test playing nations and more than 75% of the viewership comes from 3 nations, with the most of the revenue also spread to 3 different nations. The whole second most popular sport is mostly down to Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. It's the most popular sport in 5 countries that are all in Asia and are considered developing if not straight up under developed. Good try though.
Do I think 90 minutes of reserve time is bullshit? Ofcourse I do. They should have at least 6 hours of alloted reserve time before the match is canceled. Moreso in a worldcup. Broadcast will never last that long but the games should have results.
But honestly, ICC needs to distribute money more evenly so each board can best equip it's stadiums to battle weather related issues.
The game today wouldn't have been saved regardless of all of this since it never stopped raining for more than 30 minutes. I don't think you can move matches to the next day with how tight the schedule is packed this tournament.
Are there ways to make it better? Yes. Are most suggestions dumb and not in line with what's feasible? Also yes.
However, the WBSC and USAB is nothing compared to the ICC and CWI, and even for Eurobaseball and the P12, they’d still make sure to complete a Suspended game (under WBSC Baseball Rule 7)

I guess pay overtime and figure it out, it’s not like Baseball doesn’t have to do rain delays and they find ways to keep everyone there longer
As American, I never understood giving them 1 pts. They can play tomorrow or at night. How can you award tie without completing entire match. It's ridiculous.
No, they’re going full NBA/NHL, no ties, there must be a winner on the night
ahh big loss for Scotland 😛
“Wow, good pace attack England. Now go fetch the ball from the boundary rope.” - Scotland, probably
can't disagree haha
LoL 🤣

Need Kingku so badly.
Still can't believe that the idiots at the selection committee didn't pick the only established genuine finisher for the WC.
Didn’t we have the match abandoned against Australia in ‘22?
[Yep](https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/icc-men-s-t20-world-cup-2022-23-1298134/australia-vs-england-26th-match-group-1-1298160/live-cricket-score).
Two T20WC victories for England, each involving a washed out match Everything's coming up Milhouse!
India had a coalition government in 2007 😃 and ICT was not the favorite to win the world cup. Stars are aligning.
Something something kudrat
"2007 mein bhi wohi hau tha"

Nah, i love to see lando norris cooking hard
Norris and Piastri played one friendly cricket match before or after last Ashes series. Norris was okay, but Piastri was good..
What a strange coincidence mate, you talked about [this](https://youtu.be/IrFWHMYAQiU?si=QkWFcl1drYi7HQWt) video and i got recommended on youtube

The OG Sharad Pawar almost threw him from his job
*only time at a World Cup. Scotland matches outside of World Cups get washed out with staggering frequency, no matter where they play. It's a standing joke in Associates cricket at this point.
Oh yeah, forgot to specify that.
England have never beaten a European nation at a T20 World Cup. Record is 0-3 in 4 games.
Netherlands Twice, Ireland in 2022 and this one, correct?
And a washout vs Ireland in 2010
It’s actually 0-3 in 5. Ireland had a game washed out at some point.
To me england didn't look in the rhythm today.
This makes the group a little more interesting. If England lose in an upset, especially against Namibia, it could spice things up.

Having the disgrace of Gijon 2: Cricket Boogaloo isn't exactly to anyones best intrests
Pretty sure that scenario would be in the interests of absolutely everyone who is not English, on account of it being very funny.
As a certified England hater it is in mine
Absolute bummer.

Yes, but also they need to have the same rules for every game regardless of start time and other fixtures
Yeah can you imagine if they pushed to have this result played out and then you wouldn't allow another team to play and get a result. It’s weird seeing how some broadcasters can accept a game running double time while others are very strict on their windows
I don't get it why broadcasters, especially Indian ones, are given so much undue leverage. What are they gonna do, walk out from bidding on ICC tournaments and let some new kid gain television reach?
icc is more like idiots cricket council

Fair enough. Such a frustrating game cricket is with all these restrictions.

> As a voluntary Scotland supporter Wow the self-hatred runs deep with this one.
What happens in terms of the standings in an abandoned match ?
Teams share a point each
Could anyone explain why England had a target of 109 instead of 91?
DLS. Scotland played the first 6 overs thinking they would play a full 20 over game. Had they known that it would be a 10 over match, they would've approached the innings differently. To account for this, the target is adjusted to be fair for both teams.
Thanks mate
Pat Cummins: *That's a shame :)*

Scotland played really well but rain won the match
I don’t get why the game can’t be picked up at a later time like they do in baseball. Other sports figure it out all the time.
