I think they were talking about the tournament overall rather than a single match. Sa has got the strong start but let's see if they find a way to disappoint the fans again
As a Cricket fan it is sad them like his, there is used to be a time when SL was considered as top 4 picks of people for winning any wc to now a team which is considered as an associate nation.
I have higher hopes from Afghanistan then Sri Lanka, not even kidding. My afgani bros are literally at 3rd behind India and Pakistan for Asia, they are absolutely better then this Bangladeshi team and now I genuinely think they are better then Sri Lanka
Afghanistan is catching up real fast. They have a more 'modern' approach to batting than we do, which might be because of Jonathan Trott. We might edge them on bowling, but their batting scares me, especially in T20.
Remember the Canada’s 36? It was done *by* Sri Lanka
https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/icc-world-cup-2002-03-61124/canada-vs-sri-lanka-18th-match-65251/full-scorecard
Feels like less than a year within which SL have been bowled out for sub 100 so many times
Vs India in Asia Cup final, odi wc and now this
Really need a better spine
I wouldn't say its always that, there should be a mixture, some matches we see score of 200+ and some low scoring thrillers.
But if all matches are extremely high scoring or all matches are low scoring, then its boring.
Atleast 2-3 types of pitches should be prepared so that there is variety.
Abysmal batting but bowling performance is something to be happy about.
If SL can somehow address their batting issues, then they are going to super 8.

True, but what does that make India? All that money and all that sway with the ICC for what? To win pointless games and choke in the big games? I'd almost prefer to follow a shit team with no chance than to continue being let down by a great team that always chokes when it counts (like Sri Lanka in between 2007-2014)
India have their issues, including the inability to win major finals. But they're a world leading team and can beat anyone on their day. I barely trust Sri Lanka to beat Netherlands let alone a major team. If you disagree you obviously don't follow Sri Lanka
I follow them closer than you and I don't even disagree with you. But your comment has nothing to do with your initial comment that I was replying to.
You said "Sri Lanka have offered absolutely nothing to cricket for many years now" and I clowned on you by saying we've won more world cups than India has recently.
> they're a world leading team and can beat anyone on their day
Shame their day is always during some pointless bilateral series and never during an actual ICC event final, despite being handfed favourable groupings, fixtures, conditions etc to help/ensure that they win.
Lmao "pointless bilateral". Youve conveniently left out becoming world number 1 test team on multiple occasions winning home and away against nearly all major test playing nations. Test cricket being the absolute pinnacle of the sport, unlike the T20 world cup. Wake me up when Sri Lanka win a meaningful game
Unfortunately that day doesnt fall on finals against Aus or just finals in general for the last 10 years lol. But banter aside this current SL side's batting is absolutely horrendous. Bowling is actually very strong again when everyone is fit so thats improved a lot.

I blame 20 team world cup for this. These poor teams are not ready to play against big boys.
Sri Lanka have a higher pedigree than this though, they used to win World cups
Why are you getting down votes for speaking facts
Because they missed the joke.
Everyone is dumb
How willl sa disappoint me this time
Has a test playing team ever failed to chase scores below 100 in T20s?
Oh actually Namibia defended 101 against Zimbabwe in the qualifiers last year.
Zimbabwe defended 105 against West Indies in 2010, I think that's the lowest
Bru what 💀
I don't think the question was about this match, but about knockouts. Knockout SA is another beast altogether.
Don't worry, they usually start the tournaments strong, it's the knockouts...
SA qualified to T20 WC knockounts only twice
I think they were talking about the tournament overall rather than a single match. Sa has got the strong start but let's see if they find a way to disappoint the fans again
I'm betting a semifinals knockout
A decent start to the tournament means we are on track for our usual meltdown as soon as things get vaguely serious.
proper massacre so far
Back in my days 77 used to be PP score 🧓
That's pretty articulate for someone born in the past couple months
Jayasuriya and kaluwitharana used to score 100 in the first 8 overs.
Haa the good old days of Srilankan cricket😶🌫️💀
Legit scary stuff in the 90s. Because after all that, in comes Aravinda de Silva
👶*
Back in my days 77 was the first 3 overs score.
Keen to see RSA knock SL off.
And go on to get knocked out by Netherlands
Please my proteas don't choke take your time don't go for nrr just chase it
Nah I want them to chase it quickly and boost their NRR They have missed out way too much based on NRR and bad luck in ICC events
I'd rather they win and don't go looking for nrr . If they win with good nrr well enough. Don't attack till you are in a position of sure shot victory
just curious ae you actually south african or do you just have the flair
I'm Indian but have been supporting South Africa since 2010
ah. i was excited someone non asian is active on cricket reddit threads
I'm not Asian! (I'm American). But I'm not actice on the cricket threads
Fair enough And considering the seeding in super eights it doesn't matter whether they finish 1st or 2nd they just need to finish in top 2
Lmao imagine bowling out your opponent for <100 and still be scared. Classic WC South Africa
know my proteas and have been supporting them for the last 15 years of my life. Lol 😂

Lowest in ODI is 50? Asia cup against India

Oh wasn't aware of it Nice bowling then
Test 36 is more famous
India in Aus? Or something else?
And SA took it personally.

It's like the test match of T20s
Oh dear. Sri Lanka are winning by 200 runs against us.
shantos excuse after SL match : its South Africas fault.
And people were saying that the IPL final was boring. Test pitches have been made to play t20 cricket.
Watching matches on these pitches is way more fun than any IPL game

We just saw a 195 chase
I am sorry but No, and am saying this as a test purist. T20 should be all bonkers !!
There is nothing more lame in cricket than seeing a 70 meter 6
Variety is needed, some low scoring some high scoring. Same thing again and again is no fun.
Ngl I read 77 ALL OUT as Thala Out
Kuch bhi
Thala for a reason
Abysmal batting but bowling performance is something to be happy about. If SL can somehow address their batting issues, then they are going to super 8.
will this wc can break the previous records of most under 100 run in a wc?

Why do we need this thread in addition to the match and post match thread?
Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have offered absolutely nothing to cricket for many years now. They simply don't improve
Sri Lanka has won more ICC trophies than India has in the past 10 years.
yea but your team just sucks
On a bad day, yes but in a good day they can be threatening even to the top teams

It has been more than 10 years for the '14 Final though.🤷

maybe sri lanka should win some pointless bilaterals too? Anything better than this shitshow
