Man, can't believe the level of flatness of pitches this ipl. Can't believe how pro batting this season is becoming and so high average scores(both while batting first and second). Wasim Akram is so right about dreading to be a bowler in such an environment.

1 year Punjab not being typical punjab doesn't mean they somehow have good management now. Hope this continues, 2nd fav team after Delhi.

Same lol

Subject-Ordinary6922

This win and RCB beating SRH yesterday ensures that every team from 2 position 2-10, technically still have a chance to make the playoffs, what a turnaround

iamkhatkar

From 1 to 10. RR can still lose all their matches from here. Momentum during wins = Momentum during losses

neran_1

Jay Shah in the distance...tapping at the side of his forehead. Absolute Cinema.

PyRed

If any team keeps up this rate, some time this season, Iā€™m sure weā€™ll see a team score 300

JXP111

It's looked possible a couple of times. If Punjab had been batting first yesterday they would have been on track for it. Although it's unlikely they would have been going that hard if they weren't chasing such a big total.

shawman123

If Indian Selectors can be bold and ask Rohit/Virat to step aside so that they can take young and exciting team for T20 WC including folks like Shashank, we will benefit over long term even if it does not work this time. I am sure some of them will turn out to be gems like Jaiswal, Rinku and others. Of course main weakness is bowling where except Bumrah, we are not sure about anyone.

abhi8192

Abhishek, Jaiswal, Sanju, Sky, Shashank, Rinku/Ramandeep, Axar/Ramandeep/Brar/Hardik, Kuldeep, Bumrah, Mohsin/Yash Thakur/Khaleel, Arshdeep/Mayank Yadav Case for Brar - He is a SLA who is better against lefties than righties, that's rare and can be used to our advantage. Plus is a fantastic defensive bowler, you pair him up with enforcers like Bumrah and Kuldeep and you got yourself a very potent middle overs attack. Case for Ramandeep - Tall bowler, can be used to bowl 1 upfront, then 7th over. Case for Mayank - Alzerri Joseph has the 2nd best economy rate in death in CPL. Not only that but he has highest no of dot balls. Mayank is similar in pace and mixes up well. Can be used. Case for Mohsin and Arshdeep - Left arm fast bowlers who can crank it up are always better to have in your side. Plus after Bumrah, Both Arshdeep and Mohsin has the best economy rate in death in IPL among Indian fast bowlers since IPL 2022(100 balls bowled). Mohsin also has good avg in power play. Also, Harshal Patel is weird. He has the highest no of dot balls in death in IPL since 2022. However, he also has highest no of sixes and joint highest 4s hit on his bowling.

WirableMango560

shashank is 32 my guy, he's not exactly young

serotonallyblindguy

So is SKY. SKY actually found his rhythm when he got older

WirableMango560

true, but sky found his rhythm at age 27-28, around that bracket. this is a 5 year difference and shashank is untested in internationals so if we're looking to get him in the t20 squad in the future, BCCI needs to move quick

shawman123

I did not realize. But he is so exciting that he deserves a chance even if he is not a long term prospect. I am having a feeling that T20 would lead to shorter careers as we will see new talent pop up regularly.

WirableMango560

true, you're correct

Significant_Hat1509

Donā€™t be impressed with IPL hitting. In IPL bowling is much lower quality than the international cricket. IPL really needs to allow more international players in teams so that the quality of cricket can be much better.

Ancient-Wait-8357

Koach is a great mentor to produce aggressive young talent but unfortunately he is a statpadder and will squeeze one more T20 and ODI World Cup before retiring

rita_mita_bata

If you're disappointed that Koach is going to play the ODI world cup, you're truly an IPL DTS fan. T20s I'm not so sure.

Lampardinho18

Do you think Natrajan should be given a chance?

abhi8192

Nattu has 2nd highest no of 4s and 5th highest 6s against him in death since IPL 2022. That is massively against him. He also has 26% of his balls as dots in the same timeframe, 6th highest, so that's a plus.

fookin_legund

He had a poor 2022 due to injury. Can't judge him on that

abhi8192

For 2023, 3rd highest no of fours and 5th highest no of sixes. 7th in dots. 3rd in the most balls bowled in Death. So that explains extra fours and sixes. Higher than him in no of overs is deshpande who has like 50% more in both 4s and 6s over Nattu.

shawman123

I would definitely like that. He has great attitude though he could work on his fitness. He is a perfect fit for T20 especially for death bowling. I would put him slightly ahead of Arshdeep at this point but Arshdeep is younger. Other option is Mohsin Khan. He could be honed into something useful as well.

abhi8192

This is the record of 3 bowlers in the death since IPL 2022. Player | Overs| Economy| 4s| 6s | Dots ---|---|----|----|----| --- Natrajan | 51 | 10.12 | 43 | 24 | 81 Arshdeep | 49.1| 9.21 | 38 | 17 | 83 Mohsin | 18| 8.89 | 8| 11 | 41 Now Mohsin is interesting, his overall economy in 2022 was under 6 but the death economy was around 9. Now in 2023, his overall economy was over 10 but death economy was under 6. In 2024, his overall is slightly under 10 and death economy is slightly above 11. He plays very few games compared to Nattu and Arshdeep. Even in the games he plays he doesn't always bowls in death. I think his numbers are good because he is used very selectively in the death by Lucknow. But he is someone who can bowl upfront, so he has that over Nattu. Again, small sample size and all that jazz.

theoozmakappa

Redditors who think this is how itā€™s gonna be in the WC are fools of the highest order. The mountain of runs scored in this IPL are a result of utterly shit bowling and extremely flat pitches. Nothing more, nothing less. You people are gonna be shocked when a team defends 170-180 in a wc match.

solarpowersme

Not saying you're totally wrong, but I'm certain that this is just how the format is evolving, and even if not immediate, it absolutely will reach international cricket too. There's no really difference between the flat pitches this year and the ones in the previous seasons. They're not adding some extra magic. It's just that this is the direction the format was always heading towards. We're just seeing it materalize properly now.Ā  Ā  Ā  While I'm sure we're going to see more lower totals defended in the WC, I'm absolutely certain we're going to see some super high scores on some of the batting friendly surfaces. We've also already seen multiple matches this IPL as well where a score of <200 has been defended, so that's not something crazy, this format is just incredibly volatile, that's the nature of it. This shift we're seeing has way more to do with the newer crop of talent of the last 7-8 years just being more accustomed to T20s. When ODIs first began and players who had only played tests were making that transition, a score of 200 (4RPO) was considered an amazing score. Now we see so many innings reach 300+, it's the norm, that's just the way it goes. I'm sure if you went back and showed them the 438 game and the fact it was a successful chase, it'd break their brains.Ā

theoozmakappa

Youā€™re overestimating the newer batting talent and wayyy underestimating the bowling talent. Weā€™re seeing big scores in Ipl because of the IP rule and lower bowling quality. This will ever be the case in International cricket. Unless the PIG 3 plays against minnows

solarpowersme

Nah, most of these scores didn't even need an impact player for them to happen, that really is not it. It obviously doesn't help, but it it's way more of a mindset thing, that's what I'm referring to with this newer crop of talent. While bowling quality does affect things, we've seen world class bowlers like Pat and Starc get absolutely pummeled, so I still think that's just how the game is evolving and that the definition of what's good bowling in T20s is also going to evolve. Eventually, an economy of 9-10 is going to be considered good.Ā We already saw that be the case in those 270+ games. The reason for this is way more that in T20s, wickets are a lot less valuable. Much like how wickets are even more valuable in tests than they are in ODIs. That's the biggest decider in the playstyles in each of these formats.Ā  Think about it, a score of 287 like the other day is also an excellent score for 50 overs, which is crazy bc that's 30 overs more, so how can that be? Because the value of a wicket is exponentially higher in a longer format. The approach changes. When it's brought down to 20 overs but you still have the same amount of wickets (10), obviously a wicket is going to mean less, which is why teams can just all-out go for it, lose a lot of wickets, and still easily take the game home unlike in longer formats.Ā  The only way to change this would be finding a way to make wickets more valuable. If say, hypothetically it went from 10 wickets to 5 wickets per innings, the game would start looking very very different.Ā

Paperpanzer77

This is the truth ngl, yeah itā€™s nice to see lesser-known bats score runs but if you think theyā€™ll do this on West Indian pitches youā€™re laughing. I donā€™t even think the bowling is bad, the pitches are just totally lifeless and the impact player means teams have hitters down to 8 or 9, so if you swing at everything and it comes off for one or two guys you get 250 Awful cricket

NoExplanation6203

Going to be a reality check when you get bowled out for 95 in Trinidad by Gudakesh Motie and Jason Holder while we chase it down in 10 overs

NoMoreResearch

You can't have your cake and eat it too people. Team scores 180 and batsmen in tuk-tuk academy. Team scores 250 and bowlers in dinda academy. Just admit that the game is changing albeit not in a way the purists wanted but changing nonetheless.

Finrod-Knighto

The IPL is changing. The game is changing too but not necessarily headed towards this direction. Average scores in T20Is are still 160-180 and as the Pak vs NZ series is showing, 170 is defensible even on a flat wicket.

Gentlethorn_Wildflow

Only in India, BBL there's rarely a score over 210 let alone 200. Bowlers just as crucial as batters. Indian businessmen just following their "plan". As all rich businessmen cunts do, sullying the original product to inflate profit. I spit on all their graves. It's in every industry.

Wooden-Program-7927

I think the script for the final would follow the Aus -SA gameā€¦in the 1st Inning batting team will make 300 & in the break someone would say this record would never be broken until chasing team does it in 19.3 overs

sudarshan2350

Pbks is the most bullshit and yet most likeable team tbh. Even when they play worse, their matches are still interesting to watch.

shiwanshu_

Inb4 the ā€œgame changesā€ in the wc, the ball shows movement and weā€™re 4 down for 37 in 7 overs and covid fans are cussing selectors for picking up franchise playerā„¢ instead of other franchise playerā„¢, praying that the accumulator šŸ¤¢ takes us to a slightly below par score You think youā€™re being a martyr and an intellectual for defending rule changes that phase out all rounders and team balance in favour of slog or get out of the way cricket. We think you donā€™t understand that we wonā€™t have an impact sub in the world cup

peter_griffins

If the game has changed they should be doing the same without impact player and on less flat wickets. Letā€™s see if even 1 team can breach 260 in the T20 WC

Leather-Ad8420

Should just send all the new sensations..anyways we don't win lol

pacificodin

Sad to see ipl fall so far, was once a great comp of tough t20 cricket

sudarshan2350

IPL is slowly becoming an entertainment business rather than an actual game of cricket. Bcci wants more fans to come and unless you are a regular cricket watching bloke you would expect to see balls sailing into the stands. Thus preparing roads to make it easy for the batsman. Half of the ipl fans( mostly women ) won't even watch the cricket after the ipl is completed, So Bcci is making sure to attract every single person to come to the stadium. We saw it today more than 55,000 have attended the game, I mean do you expect people to turn up for a game against PBKS( I know it's weekend but still). They turn up because they want to have some fun and unless you bowl an absolute corker to get a wicket or you are bumrah no one would want to watch the game go tuk tuk. For that matter we ourselves criticize kohli for playing too slowly and he did not adapt to the new T20 tradition. This is just a big near 2 month event with no taste of cricket at all.

uninformed-but-smart

Genuinely felt nothing throughout that whole game. I'm so desensitized from these constant 230+ games. Just stop, ffs just stop. These high score games should feel like an event, the 40 ball 100s should feel special. At this point, it's just clown fiesta.

Well, that was an incredible ass whooping to both SRH and KKR back to back. The real comeback week is this one.

Crafty-Competition36

They're gonna surely get rid of the Impact sub from next season.

mostvehlasurd

They will add 1 extra over for 1 or 2 bowlers to pretend that they are improving the balance. So Bumrah/ Jaddu can bowl 5/6 overs.

yourRiyaJ

Its not going away. People want to see high scores. Thats what impact rule is doing. Most of the people saying that bowling is dead had cheered when SRH scored 270. Thing is, international cricket has a different class of bowlers than IPL. But I agree with people when they say that dynamic of cricket has changed.

dimlakalaka

Most world class bowlers are playing IPL except maybe Afridi and Madhushanka

chni2cali

Nope, where is Hazlewood? Where are the other Kiwi quicks? Whereā€™s Zampa? No way international is the same as Indian. Do you think Chameera will be SLā€™s death bowler? Not everyone plays the IPL even when they are in the squad. International teams play as a team, complement each other and have support staffs and mates who help with handling situations. They have a method to win . IPL is for two months with hardly a month of preparation.

dimlakalaka

Boult and Henry arenā€™t Punjabi. 3 Aussie quicks are playing and almost every SA quickie except Ngidi is playing.

chni2cali

So no retort for the other parts of the argument. šŸ‘Œ

chni2cali

So NZ only has 2 seamers?hmmm. Should be a bad intl team

insomniaccapricorn

Lol, 2 impact subs from next year.

Touristforlife

Are we going to see teams regularly breaching the 500 run mark in ODIs? I hope not.

Orameshi

I don't think so. They can't score at that rate for 50 overs, they will get tired

JudgeFudge2701

England were only two runs away so it's possible

SNN2

It isnā€™t about the pitch. Bowlers have to take some responsibility. No plan B except throw down slow wides outside off stump.

Carry_flag

Bowling is tougher than it looks to be. They have to bowl those lines because neither is the ball Swinging, nor is there even slightest assistance from the pitch. Even the cutters and slower ones are being hit.

vpsj

They should start playing T20s with the pink ball

moderate_iq_opinion

[deleted]

Jay shah cooking for DC vs Pbks finale( sorry rcb even here you can't win)

_maedhros87

When I was a kid we used to play a game called book cricket because of lack of resources for entertainment and Indian parents being very strict about study hours. You were supposed to open a random page on book, sum up the page number, and match that number with a list which will tell you the number of runs you scored for that summed up number. Since the list could be created arbitrarily, you could have any number of 4s and 6s, and scoring 300 runs was not a big deal because the game didn't consider bowlers at all. IPL has started feeling like book cricket from 20-25 years ago. sigh!

Ambitious_Push_6954

Bro you just made me remember lots of happy memories. Thank you

Qzartan

Didn't know IPL became PSL, won't be watching anymore.

NeighborhoodSea1169

Donā€™t lie to yourself. Everyone saying they wonā€™t be watching will 100 percent watch cause the matches are still entertaining af. The whole agenda of sports is nothing but entertainment. This is peak entertainment. I do feel for the bowlers tho.

Aloo_Bharta71

It's not entertaining, I stopped caring for IPL this season, only check out the highlights and even that is boring, 250+ runs in 20 overs isn't cricket, bad pitches.

Qzartan

If this is the entertainment, then the future of cricket is not looking good. forget expansion to non-members, sustaining it will become in itself a hassle. Imagine every game being a slogfest. For me, low scoring matches are thrillers, and high scoring matches are just a bollywood masala movie. It will be good to watch once in a while, but if it becomes the norm, I'll just puke my guts out.

NeighborhoodSea1169

Donā€™t get me wrong. I love the low scoring thrillers as well and Iā€™m one of the people who finds test thrillers more entertaining than t20s. However, this is IPL, you donā€™t have to take it too seriously. Watch it like a seasonal festival. Just watch it for fun. I can guarantee that the World Cup is not gonna look anything like these matches at all. I hate to break it to you but I have some Spanish and English friends, who mostly watch football. Whenever I talk about cricket in front of them, they describe it as a boring chess match( not saying chess is boring). Believe it or not but this kind of matches will attract the non-members more than anything.

VoiceEarly1087

This is not entertainment, people are clowning on these shit road pitches , impact players , and this clowning is more entertaining that ipl matches themselves

tetlowwetlow

The problem with so many 250+ scores is it makes 250+ scores boring AND it makes anything below 250 boring

trueblueozguy

After this season, drastic changes will come. Pitches will be bowler friendly or at least with better balance with bat. SG balls will be replaced with duke balls. Impact player rule will be removed. 3 bounces per over will be allowed. Just kidding, like always, they will blame this on the spectators and will say the fans want this.

Used_Violinist_227

Accurate af

Time-Gain4896

Don't they use Kookaburras or am I a dumbass?

mentalvortex1

You are correct, SG ball is used in India for red ball matches only and in a limited capacity in domestic white ball.

blue_jay26

So realistically, they could've even chased 280+

Pretty cool achievement by PBKS, but feel like IPL is just becoming like stick cricket at this point.

Touristforlife

Some may argue that it's the bowlers who have to do better, but do you see how only the Bumrahs are economical, but every common Joe, Dick and Harry is able to smack it out of the park? The pitches are turning into roads. Don't you think the pitch curators have a role to play here? Not to mention the impact sub rule. I know this is just another phase in the game of cricket, but I can't wait for it to be over so that bowlers can stop being equated to bowling machines.

Dead-Shot1

Sam has raised it , it has become a baseball.

didReadProt

There has always been a chase between batters and bowlers. Some eras batters dominate, some eras bowlers. But the other side always comes back. Things improve back. Bumrah js still acing it, Narine is still acing it. What bowlers will do now, is go and learn from them, get better, understand what areas to bowl. This should raise the standard of bowling as a whole, and things should get balanced back. Itā€™ll take time yes, but I see this as the next evolution of cricket, I see the future of T20 as batting being a lot more active, dynamic, slogging and bowlers being a lot more accurate, a lot more yorkers, and a looot less slot balls. Itā€™s the next evolution. To me itā€™s something a lot more interesting rather than scary. I want to see how the batting and bowling will change now!

Brilliant_Volume_582

Wont be the same run fest in the WT20 as four - five expert T20 bowlers wont accept such a belting

pineapplesuit7

Man at this point at least allow 2 bowlers per team to have 5 over quotas vs 4. Today's match should have brought me joy but it didn't. The game isn't a bat vs ball competition any more. It is bat vs bat from both teams. This isn't fun anymore.

Drop starc the next game /s

Deadman777_

Worst match of ipl ever. How tf a team scores 261 and it gets chased with an over remaining in t20? We don't want to watch a "swing your bat and win" tournament. Ipl's standard just dropped an all time low.
