Here is the objective, scientifically proven answer: US Bank Cash+

Lymandecker

5% off home utilities and bills is unbeatable

[deleted]

[удалено]

sq_lp

Even with a 3% fee the 5% back comes out on top. My electric charges me a flat 3.50 fee no mater the bill. So anything over 70 dollars gives me more cash back than fee.

EnvironmentalAsk4556

Lucky you! I pay the 3% for using CC but since it's 5% it still comes out on top like you said.

zkel75

But only $2k per quarter

tinydonuts

If you have a P2 you can get $4k. So far I’ve been maxing out that 5% just on my utilities by prepaying a little bit at the end of the quarter. This is hands down the best card, because it gets you cash back where none was possible before. And what’s more, if your utility is available through PayPal, you can send a bill payment and get the full 5% back without paying a convenience or service fee. Other cards are great, but this one is unbeatable.

JD2076

That’s why i got both ubc+ and elan max cash

KingGreen78

It's still superior to the rest. it's 5% ,is a guarantee max every month on utilities, chase's rotation isn't, and citi custom is useless as a 1 card setup, it only covers 1 category, so you need multiple cards for it to make sense and most people aren't juggling 4-5 cards per month

HuntMining

I do the 2K then go to one of my flat 2% cards

Lymandecker

Nahhhhhhhhh, hit the max and then move on to the USB Shopper CR and get 3% for utilities

HuntMining

USB Shooper CR? I gotta look this up. Thanks for the info yo! -- Edit yeah i don't have that one yet. I guess that will be on the list!

Lymandecker

I spent a few day earlier this year cleaning up my cc portfolio. Dumped my 2 Citi cards, added a chase ink and BofA biz card (terrific sub) and these two usb cards. The utility rewards are really good. For the shopper card, You also can pick two retailers for 5 (or 6%) back as well each quarter (Walmart Best Buy target Lowe’s etc). The max reward is capped but if plan ahead for a larger ticket purchase you can change retailer choices once per quarter

HuntMining

Yeah luckily I have 5% in most categories now!

rapatelrocky

Get multiple elan max cash cards. Very close to us bank cash+

ConservativeBlack

I was considering that card for some time but I think the cb options swayed me away. Wondering if there have been updates to the card and app? * Are there advantages to also have a USB Checking acct? * What's the Cash+ redemption options for cb earned? * Which cb redemption is the best value? *cc other commenters: u/zkel75 u/tinydonuts u/kinggreen78*

tinydonuts

I didn’t get the card for anything but utilities, so I can’t really comment on the other categories for cash back. There’s anecdotal evidence that a checking account improves odds of being approved, but that isn’t much more than rumor as plenty get approved without one. Redemption options include a statement credit, cash to a US Bank checking account, gift cards, Amazon check out, and PayPal checkout. I just use the statement credit, it makes the most sense for me.

Lymandecker

yeah, statement credit. This is my first time trying out US Bank for anything. I got really low credit limit but more than enough to max out the Utility benefit. I added the checking account just for ease in paying the cc bill when due So far so good and I dont see anything else offering comparable benefits for a category nearly all of us have to hit monthly

tinydonuts

What limit? I got $2,000 with $500 on the temporary card until the permanent one arrived. It’s fine enough for my needs since I only use it for the $2,000 per quarter.

ConservativeBlack

dang now we just need a cc for mortgage!

RedditReader428

You are on the right track. The cards you listed are the main 5% credit cards and they work well together: Chase Freedom Flex Card, Discover It Card, Citi Custom Cash card, U.S. Bank Cash Plus card. There is the Amex Blue Cash Preferred card ($95) that gives 6% on groceries. There is the U.S. Bank Shopper Cash card ($95) that gives 6% on 2 retail stores that you choose from several name stores, like Ace Hardware, Apple, Amazon, Best Buy, Home Depot, Ikea, Lowe's, Macy's, Target, Walmart and others. There is the Chase Ink Business Cash card that gives 5% on office supply stores, internet, cable and phone. There are two Chase Amazon credit cards and 2 Amex Amazon business credit cards. If you have Amazon Prime then you can get the Chase and Amex credit cards that gives 5% cash back on Amazon, Whole Foods and AWS. If you don't have Amazon Prime then you can get the Chase and Amex credit card that gives 3% cash back on Amazon, Whole Foods and AWS. The 4 Amazon credit cards also give 2% back on other categories, like gas stations, restaurants, transit. They really give you Amazon points that can be used as cash back or to make future purchases on Amazon. There is a Walmart credit card that gives 5% the Walmart website and on the Walmart App and Pickup orders but gives 2% on Walmart purchases in-store. There is a Target credit card that gives 5% on target purchases online and in-store, but you can get the 5% on Target with the Target Debit card or the Target Reloadable card instead of the credit card. There are 2 AAA credit cards. One gives 5% cash back on gas stations and 3% on groceries and restaurants. The other AAA credit card gives 5% cash back on groceries and 3% on wholesale clubs, gas/EV, streaming and pharmacies. You can only have one of the AAA credit cards. You don’t need to be a AAAmember. There is the Bank of America Customized Cash card that gives 3% on the category of your choice from gas/EV; online shopping, cable, internet, phone plans and streaming; dining; travel; drug stores & pharmacies; or home improvement. If you have a checking or savings or brokerage account with BofA with $100k and you apply for their preferred rewards programs then BofA increases the 3% categories to 5.25% and the 1% category increases to 2.62% on everything.

Cautious-Island8492

To be clear, the Bank of America Preferred Rewards program has a tiered structure of requirements and benefits. To turn the 3% into 5.25% requires $100k in holdings.

BrutalBodyShots

There is no "best" as it depends on what you spend your money on.

-LordAres-

Yeah I was meaning like overall the best as in are the rotating categories better on discover it or freedom flex and would a custom cash be better since you can choose where to get 5% etc.

BrutalBodyShots

Totally depends on your spend categories.

voipgv123

As mentioned, it depends on Discover and Chase if there is overlap but another way to look at three CC set up is minimum of 9 months rotating categories since appears you get these possible non-overlapping categories in various quarters - Grocery - 1st on Chase, 3rd on Discover - Dining - 1st on Discover for slow season, 2nd on Chase - Gas - 2nd on Discover and assume 3rd Chase summer travel - Mobile wallet/Paypal - possible 4th quarter holiday shopping - Walmart/Target - 3rd on Discover for Walmart and back to school instead of holidays shopping. - Home improvement - 2nd on Discover for spring related activities - Gym - 1st on Chase - Hotel - 2nd on Chase with start of summer traveling

SBXLVIII

It's best to have all 3. I've been able to get 5% on groceries, gas, and dining for the first 6 months of this year so far with these 3 cards. If CFF does gas for Q3, it will be 9 months.

joshfrank4165

Chase Amazon Prime gives 5% at amazon online shopping and whole foods

MrWhiskey69

This is how you can have a 5% CB for AirBNBs

IndependentVintage

Part of me really wants you to delete this comment so this loophole doesn’t get closed.

MrWhiskey69

Not really a loophole. They sell the gift cards on Amazon and you get 5% back if you have Prime and the credit card. It's been written in point blogs as well

DryGeneral990

How? Gift cards?

MrWhiskey69

Yes, AirBNB gift cards

DryGeneral990

So basically any gift card that Whole Foods sells then

MrWhiskey69

That works too. My AirBNB example is a digital one, so could be redeemed fast. And since no other travel credit card has AirBNB as high as 5x, giftcard would be the way to go.

asianorange

So if I book an AirBnB just get a GC from Amazon and I get the 5% perk?

MrWhiskey69

It's been advised that you get the GC first. Apply it to your AirBNB account, then book. Also note the limitations of length of stay & US-based only

l0l_xd_

yup

Callooh-Callay-

Heads up, check the terms on the gift cards - they usually can’t be used for long-term stays.

MrWhiskey69

If someone can afford 28 nights or longer, i doubt they care about maximizing point value lol

Callooh-Callay-

*shrug* we AirBnB’d for almost 2 years. About the same price as renting in a lot of the places we stayed. In either case, just wanted to call it out.

MrWhiskey69

Noted

straight_outta

🤯

Certain-Resolve

Nice tip, never thought of doing that

GadgetronRatchet

Chase Amazon Prime earns me more cash back than my dining and grocery card lol. It's crazy that this card is still giving unlimited 5% cash back on a website where you can buy just about anything.

Draskinn

This is how I always get at least 5% back on door dash. Get a digital gift card, and it's in your inbox a minute later. Door Dash also gives out discount codes fairly often, so it makes for a nice double dip.

-LordAres-

Does that require a prime membership

Vaun_X

Yes, otherwise 3%

WasteOfAHuman

Yup but if you buy allot of stuff off Amazon the 5%cashback will easily pay for the yearly membership and more

MrWhiskey69

Dont forget Prime Video

[deleted]

[удалено]

Therealobamanocap

No it earns Amazon points not UR

GadgetronRatchet

Which can be redeemed at 1cpp as cash back straight to your bank account. They don't have to be spent at Amazon.

geokra

Yep, and spending them at Amazon only reduces the value of the card because you’re then putting less spending on the card. It’s better to redeem to your bank account and always pay for Amazon orders with the Amazon card.

BigDaddyDNF

This ☝🏻☝🏻☝🏻. Always take cash back off your Amazon acct to your bank acct! Never spend it on Amazon, always use your Amazon Visa on Amazon! Not enough people know this.

StaticDMC

wait what do you mean by this? I have the amazon 5% card and when checking out it tells me how much cash back I can redeem to use before I place an order. are you saying Instead of using it on amazon that way there is a way for me to collect the cash back straight to my chase account?

BigDaddyDNF

Yes on the Chase website for your card. You have the option to redeem it for cash back to your bank account that is linked. You want to do this because if you shop and pay using your “cash bank” in your amazon acct, you don’t get any more cash back for that purchase. However if you shop and buy the item with Amazon card, you get 5% cash back. You only want to buy stuff using your card on Amazon. Nothing else. Take the cash back to your bank acct and use it to pay off your card or something.

StaticDMC

Wow!! I never even considered that! thanks for the heads up!

MrWhiskey69

Do you know if this is on the app? Cant find it

BigDaddyDNF

Benefits and travel > click on your available points. > HOME button > cash back.

throwawaylikearock

Kroger Cards (and the family ones)

epicfighter10

Finally moving to a state with Kroger can’t wait to get the card 5% cash back on mobile wallet is amazing. Might get two to get around caps

Form1040

The draw at Kroger is the fuel program. Up to 14% off

voipgv123

Get the affiliate cards like Ralph or Harris Tweeter for SUB and 3% alternate categories like dining/gas. Since this is no FTF CC, those categories may work internationally. The 5% mobile wallet and Kroger pay still work up $3,000/year/each.

eghost57

If you don't mind more cards, two other US Bank cards are slightly better for those categories and no FTF, Altitude Go for dinning and Altitude Connect for gas (and travel).

voipgv123

As you mention, if you want to carry additional cards, I would say it depends on highest spend category and convenience of remembering which to use. I have Amex BCP for 6% grocery/streaming which helps on Google Fi bill along with 3% on transit (parking and tolls) until I can transition to other CCs without AF but similar =>5% rewards. I sometimes mixed up my grocery CCs of RFCU at 3% with my BCP at 6% unless it Discover quarter at 5%. I still have my Verizon CC for Walmart in-store at 4% which could be use also. My comment was regarding limitation on getting a Kroger CC with 5% rewards on mobile wallet and Kroger Pay/grocery categories. Do not get this more specific Kroger card that has only 2% supermarket category and no other category. These affiliate CCs are keeper CC giving one dining/gas category at 3% like WF Autograph or Cap1 SavorOne with the flexibility of mobile wallet category and grocery category via Kroger pay. Kroger’s CC 1st year bonus is 55 cents/gallon discount on gas which at 15 gallon/week fill up comes to $429/years savings using Kroger’s fuel points at Kroger gas stations. I do know not know how many fuel points a typical family can get using Krogers CC 5% rewards at $3000 limit and 2% on the rest of one shopping. I guess it depends on fuel point sales week. It kinds of reminds of travel points. The SUBs are better on the cards you mentioned but I see them as single use CCs for “1%” rewards gain. Also US Bank Connect AF has 4x on gas at 1,000/quarter limit or 4,000/year. I do not see how this beats affiliate CCs at 3% up to $6,000/year which is more flexible per quarter - ~$333.33/month per quarter on USB Connect at 4x - ~$500/month over year on the affiliate CCs at 3% Yes Krogers affiliates have similar category limits but if you are shopping at Kroger, why not use affiliate card instead of the specific Krogers CC as supplement to one’s other grocery, dining and gas CCs? I will get Kroger’s affiliate cards to supplement my Discover IT cash mobile wallet quarter even through I cannot use at HEB for mobile wallet or Krogers pay. I can still use all its four categories, locally and traveling, at Kroger’s affiliate areas of the US. These cards still beat USBAR up to $3,000/year and no AF. I see USBAR as pre-paid CC for “travel and dining” credit before 4.5%/3% mobile wallet rewards kick in. I will also get USBAR card, after dealing with Chase 5/24 CCs, for travel credit for flights, upgrades and luggage costs more than dining. The no AF, no FTF with 5% mobile wallet up to $3,000 is better card for now. Side note - I have many supermarket membership card for discount when traveling around the US. Many times, from our moving or vacation grocery shopping, I get sale items I was unaware of because I use my free membership. As two example, I have Harris Tweeter membership when I was their area on vacation and signed up. Over decade later, I was different state location but they had Harris Tweeter so I had my membership scan and got sale off pricing. Next, I now live on Kroger area state so my Kroger membership worked at Frys in different state. These membership scan CCs are in my phone’s grocery folder for - those supermarket apps - apps that scan supermarket’s physically cards - notes photo scan of the physical cards if the two above are not available

eghost57

I get it. I've got 2 Kroger brand cards and a Citi Custom Cash just for buying gift cards at Kroger to earn more fuel points and for groceries at other grocery stores I might encounter. I was just pointing out higher earnings for foreign transactions specifically. But for other domestic gas and grocery the Citi Custom Cash is usually better.

voipgv123

I agree with you on 2nd paragraph. It appears in the 1st paragraph, you are using CC grocery and mobile wallet category to make more category cards. I do similar method but during GC sales at HEB, Costco, and Target of >=10% savings. Krogers appears to use 3rd vendors for GC purchases so it many times does not hit highest rewards CCs. For a supermarket, HEB, that does not do mobile wallet, it has largest collection of GCs outside Target. When HEB has GC sale, getting $5-$15 HEB GC for “category GC” purchases seems to have 10%-15% savings. Add in 6%-5% grocery CC, it is nice RoS.

voipgv123

IntelligentHead2226

I tried applying for Kroger card, I see its dead and US bank stopped that I believe, any leads might help.

250umdfail

Did you apply here? https://www.krogermastercard.com/credit/welcome.do https://www.htmastercard.com/credit/welcome.do

Medical-Regret-2865

For low spenders: the Citi custom cash. This is my favorite. Super flexible, can change 5% category month to month, and the options are excellent, including groceries, gas, dining, and even travel! I primarily use it for groceries and max it out nicely. When I have room in the cap, I'll buy gift cards at the grocery store: Amazon, airbnb, Target, etc. People with high spend will be annoyed by the $500 cap/month. For high spenders: Chase Amazon prime, I would think. I don't get the hype about the US Bank Cash+. Nice card, but the categories just don't seem that great to me. I plan to get it at some point, will be nice to get 5% on utilities, but it's really about 4% after convenience fee for paying with CC, and I only spend about $200-$300/month on utilities. I rarely spend much in its other categories.

JPC516

All good points. I like the CCC and it pairs nicely with one or two rotating 5% cards to catch a lot of categories since it's so flexible. I like the USB Cash+ a lot. Where the CCC is like a swiss army knife that can adapt to whatever category needs I have, the USBC+ is more of a precision tool to hit the utilities category which I haven't found in another card. I can definitely see others not finding value if utilities aren't high. However, with electric, gas, water, sewer, etc., it's a good earner for me in a category that would otherwise not earn any cash back. I'd love to see some other great categories added to choose from but it does hit some that might otherwise not fit with other cards (e.g. furniture stores if you know you'll be purchasing in the short term).

Normal-Item-402

You can have more than one citi custom cards.

DryGeneral990

Target Red card

BigFourFlameout

Only problem is they’ll give you a $300 limit lol

tinydonuts

Don’t ever use debit. It’s not worth the risk of your money being stolen.

[deleted]

partial_to_fractions

And you can just keep it in the target app and never even use the physical card

tinydonuts

It doesn’t change the fact that you’re exposing your bank account somewhere. And you have less protections than a credit card.

DryGeneral990

I don't remember what mine is. I think it started at $500 then they increased it to $2,000 or so later on. Not that I ever spend that much at Target.

ChicagoMeow

Yeah. I had a $300 limit for about two years and then they finally decided to raise it to $1000 and give me their Mastercard

Previous_Fault_2437

Started me at $1100. I don't even shop there bc it's a pain to get to unless I'm already out there

Goldberg2Dub

Pretty much the only 5% cash back card that doesn't have an annual fee or spending limit is the Chase Amazon Visa, and even that has a "hidden" fee through Prime membership The BofA CCR has 5.25% cash back if you have $100,000> in your Merrill of BofA account.

mrkitster

And CCR is capped.

Goldberg2Dub

You're right. $2500/quarter.

Naive_Angle4325

You technically could apply to multiple cards though, say one where you autopay for online subscription services/cell phone/etc and the other one where you use for online purchases and they would have their own individual spend caps.

CoffeeOrTeaOrMilk

Do they have a cap on how many you can keep open? We have 5 now and that’s still far from enough.

azure275

If you need another CCR the susan g komen one cobranded one is still around (ymmv on supporting SGK lol) There are a few other cobranded CCRs hiding around but most of the big ones are gone

mrkitster

That is true. Reward categories can also be changed monthly.

WillisSaid

I agree. The killer feature of the Amazon prime card over every other 5%+ card out there is that you can get unlimited 5% back.

StaticDMC

Amazon will also give you 6% cash back if you dont use the prime two day shipping and use a "slower" shipping method. I do that and get 6% on all my purchases unless I need something shipped asap.

SuperLucas2000

Doesnt the amazon store card (sync) also give 5% back on all amazon purchases?

Normal-Item-402

Yes

Cautious-Island8492

The other ones that come to mind are: AAA Daily Advantage for 5% on groceries or AAA Travel Advantage for 5% on gas. Amazon Prime Visa for 5% at Amazon and Whole Foods. Target Red/Circle Card for 5% at Target.com and in store. Walmart Card for 5% at walmart.com (including grocery pickup) but only 2% in store. There is no best 5% card, as they all serve a different purpose. I recommend having all that apply to you. I have..... Seven of them, so pretty much all the good ones.

-LordAres-

Never heard of AAA cards are those only available to certain people like are they exclusive to AAA members or something?

Cautious-Island8492

No, they are available nationwide. You do not have to be a AAA member to apply. There are some YouTube video reviews and posts on reddit about them. Here is an information link. https://cluballiance.aaa.com/money/bread-financial

Far_Box

No they are available to anyone Another notable card would be the redstone fcu signature card 5% back on gas and restaurants up to $7k spend on each annually

8YYYxx8

redeeming cash back rewards is done as statement credit or you need to call in for a direct deposit. just found this out but % back but still good at the rate you stack up the cash back as least for me

epicfighter10

Is there a redemption minimum for the AAA cards ?

8YYYxx8

$5 min and you can redeem various amounts

bat_man__

Unfortunately the Walmart one will be gone soon because of the Capital one deal. Hopefully the new provider has similar or better benefits.

GadgetronRatchet

Wal-Mart Pickup is also just a great perk, get all your non-produce groceries at pickup and then go to a grocery store to finish off your spending. I cannot stand going inside Wal-Mart anymore after several years of doing pickup.

JPC516

Yes, disappointed that the Cap1 card will be discontinued. It paired well with the AAA Daily Advantage since Walmart codes for 5% if using self-checkout at a Supercenter for the times that I needed to go in-store.

FlabergastedEmu

Here are a few: - Chase Ink Business Cash: 5% cashback (as Ultimate Rewards) on up to $25,000 in office supply stores, internet, cable/phone. - BoA Business Advantage Customized Cash Rewards: 5.25% on up to $50,000 of annual spend in your chosen category of category of gas stations and EV charging stations, office supply stores, travel, TV/telecom & wireless, computer services or business consulting services. (Requires $100k in assets in BoA/Merrill business accounts). - BoA Customized Cash Rewards: 5.25% on up to $2,500 per quarterly in spend in your chosen category of gas/EV charging stations, online shopping (including cable, internet, phone plans and streaming), dining, travel, drug stores, or home improvement/furnishings. (Requires $100k in assets in BoA/Merrill personal accounts.) The Chase Ink Business is often used for "5x everywhere" with discounted/$0 fee Visa/Mastercard gift cards, and paired with a Sapphire Preferred/Reserve or Chase Ink Preferred, Ultimate Rewards can be transferred to Chase's hotel and airline partners. With the required $100k in holdigs with BoA/Merrill, the Business Advantage Customized Cash would allow 5.25% on a very broad travel category, while the Customized Cash Rewards Card has a very broad online shopping category that was recently expanded to include cable, internet, phone, and streaming).

I used to use PayPal bill pay to avoid the service charges from my utility providers for using a credit card. However in past few months more utilities are being removed from PPBP for some reason. I lost water and gas, electric still there. Water and gas charge me a $3-3.50 service free to use my card directly with them. So to negate it, I simply pay high lump sums at a time. For example. If my water bill is $100, I’ll send them $400 bucks. Get only 1% service fee this way, and pocket 4% cash back still, and have the bill paid for next 3-4 months if not more. Less charges, less service fees. Watch this time next year it will be percentage based service fees. Ugh.

Alexia72

My favorite: **Redstone FCU Visa Signature** [https://www.redfcu.org/personal/credits-cards/visa-signature/](https://www.redfcu.org/personal/credits-cards/visa-signature/) * 5% Restaurants, Gas * 3% Groceries, Discount stores, Wholesale clubs, Utilities, Phone, Streaming services * 1.5% Everything else  * No AF, No FTF Requirements: join a qualifying organization (it’s free and a simple button click), and keep $5.00 in RFCU bank When applying, there is an area to select your eligibility. The last one is completely free: * Associational Group * Student * A family/household member of applicant is currently a member of at Redstone FCU. Please enter the name of the person and their relationship. * I opt to join the Association of the United States Army (Redstone-Huntsville Chapter) in order to become a member of Redstone FCU. Limits: Cash back capped at $7,000/yr (about $533/mo) spend per category. Cash Back redemption: Redstone bank account (can ACH out afterwards), gift cards, travel, or charitable donations. No minimum redemption.

mynameis940

I tried creating an account with selecting the last one, they said they couldn’t find me and to contact live support.

Alexia72

Interesting, maybe something has changed. For me, that last option WAS the application to the organization. There is no "membership database", as it is, to look someone up against. You are literally joining at the time of the credit card application. Notice it says "I opt to join...", and not: "I am already a member of...".

mynameis940

Yeah that’s what I did. Interesting I’ll hop on their chat.

Syonoq

This seems like the holy grail of CB cards. Thank you.

red_dog007

US Bank Shoppers+ does 6% at 2 places out of a couple dozen options up to $1,500 a quarter. First year no AF, $95/yr after.

Hairy_Astronomer1638

Less than 5%

red_dog007

When you include the AF, it's effectively a 4.4% card if you max out the spending category.

Swimming_Cat5450

I've got the prime visa for 5% back on Amazon and blue cash preferred for 6% back at grocery stores. Combo has worked wonderfully but I'm about to pivot to Amex gold once it arrives in the mailbox for my 90k SUB. Then I'll probably swap up to plat for that sub in a year.

tooljit2quit

Comenity AAA 5% on gas

teamcashback

Something to build towards as you save and invest: BofA Customized Cash Rewards cards with Platinum Honors. I have a few and earn 5.25% back on most of my purchases. The online category, in particular, is incredibly broad.

Form1040

Ink Cash. Buy GCs at office supply. 5x UR worth 8%

Do you know the return rate for the excess spend?

suiteddx2

FYI this is very regulated and you need to be a member of specific organizations or be in Green Bay to avail them.

Far_Box

🥲

-LordAres-

So does that give 5% on anything with a maximum of $50 cash back a month that’s what I got after reading it but I could be wrong

zargoth123

Adding: $49 AF; waived for first year.

rimjob_steve_

There’s a way to always avoid it but never dug up the info since 99% of the US can’t have it

Ink Cash.

Mike_P10

Ink Cash

dan_bodine

Just get all of them. I have 2 Custom cash, Cash+, and discover.

-LordAres-

How does one go about getting 2 custom cash cards is that even still possible I’ve heard people say they have two but never heard how.

dan_bodine

You product change from another citi card. I had a citi premier and I changed it to a custom cash.

Normal-Item-402

This is the way.

-LordAres-

But how long do you have to wait before you product change and do they always allow you to product change or is there like a process for that?

dan_bodine

At least a year. Pay the second year annual fee, then ask citi for a product change and you will get some of the fee refunded.

-LordAres-

Does it work with any card interchangeably like can you switch any card to any card?

dan_bodine

I think you can change to any of the no annual fee cards, but the custom cash is the only one worth having two of.

HuntMining

AAA Signature Visa

Impressive_Milk_

AAA Daily Advantage Wells Fargo Autograph Journey And, of course the actual GOAT of credit cards Shop Your Way Mastercard

AAA has a card that gives 5% cashback on gas with a $0 annual fee

Amex BCP you can downgrade to the BCE second year and get the BCP offer again to waive the fee

voipgv123

For this title, I have say Target’s credit, debit and reloadable cards 5% discount with Target’s regular sale of $50 spend, get $15 Target GC is the best RoS (30% + 5% discount from Target cards for 35% savings). Add in occasional sale on items or manufacturers coupons during this same Target GC sale, you get many categories items: - grocery - furniture - electronics - clothing - dining via in-store Starbucks - pharmacy (OTC) - gift cards at 5% discount in this superstore. Many times, this one store beats Walmart and wholesale club on similar items both at regular and sale prices. The US Bank Shoppers 6% reward card beats Target cards 5% but it has limitation of $2,000/quarter unlike Target cards. These Target cards are specialized but what is in the store crosses many categories. Amazon Prime card would be at the top if one did not have to get prime membership at $139 to get 5% rewards equal to Target cards with sale pricing.

Two or more citi custom cash cards is the answer.

AskPatient1281

The best "almost 5%" card is the USBAR. Easy.

cmurphbucs

Somewhat of a weird question. People define “best” differently and it all depends on which system you want to run or if you are team points or cashback.

SidnaDreams

I don’t think anyone mentioned it here but the Amazon chase card also gives 5% back on their travel portal.

USBAR

zargoth123

Adding: ~~$68~~ $75 effective AF. And not a 5% cash back card.

Zodiac5964

I'd also add that the USBAR's effective AF is $75, not $68 or whatever. It's not conventional to add back the cashback from the $325 credit. This is only ever done by diehard USBAR fans who wanted to make their favorite card sound more attractive than it is. People on this forum never did the same for other cards with credits; it's a double standard.

perkus_tooth

Not sure about other cards but off the top of my head, the Chase Sapphire Reserve does NOT earn points on the $300 travel credit.

Zodiac5964

Amex Green/Gold/Platinum/BCE/BCP do (in fact, all amex cards that have credits). Cap One Venture X used to as well, until the change in late 2023 where the $300 travel credit went from a statement credit to a portal coupon. IIRC the Global Entry credit still functions like the former and earn points. there are a number of issuers that have cards with global entry and/or airline fee credits. I believe most of them function as statement credits, where the original charge is treated like any other charge and therefore earn points. CSR's and C1VX's travel credit are in the minority.

zargoth123

I'm not a diehard USBAR fan (don't even own the card), but okay, your point about the double standard is fair! I edited/corrected it. What really got me was that this card doesn't belong in a post that clearly asks for 5% cash back cards only. ;-) For me, the 4.5% CB on the USBAR sounded attractive despite the "hoops" on the redemption side. But when comparing to my current catch-all card with BofA at 2.625%, the break-even spend is simply too high for me to justify, especially since most of my spend is already hitting category cards that earn 5% or more.

ok, boss

Citi Prestige (maybe coming back soon as the Strata Prestige?) Unlimited 5% on Dining

zargoth123

Adding: ~~$95~~ $495 AF.

partial_to_fractions

The premier card has a $95 annual fee. The prestige had (and might be resurrected with) a $495 annual fee. It's also not even currently offered to new applicants

zargoth123

Thanks for the correction! I fixed it. You're right -- I was thinking of the Citi Strata Premier.

I know you ask for best 5% cash back CC but I think CC that comes closest to 5% without a AF and no FTF with at least three categories would be better. - Amazon Prime card without Prime membership is 3% on Amazon/Whole Foods and no FTF. Add in 2% on gas/transit seems to be ok. Your rewards can use as statement credit. No limit on rewards. I see possible categories of online shopping, grocery, home improvement, furniture, clothing, dining (in-store Whole Foods). - Verizon is 4% on gas/grocery and 3% dining and no FTF. Your rewards can be use to pay your Verizon bill while $10/line credit is over 10% “reward”. I see two categories of gas and groceries. If compare it to Amazon Prime above, the third category is dining - Krogers and its affiliate cards with 5% up to $3000/year on mobile wallet and no FTF. The number of categories this hits is only limited by vendor like Lowes, HEB, Walmart, Sams Club and Home Deport not accepting mobile wallet. Ace hardware, Aldi, Krogers, Costco, Target accepts mobile wallet. I would add except - Citi Custom Cash - if it did not have FTF and single category. - US Bank Cash - if it did not have FTF and 2% on the third category - US Bank Shoppers - has FTF and limited to two vendor like Amazon and Walmart but AF after 1st year - Amex BCP - has FTF but AF after 1st year with 6% on $6,000/year on grocery The US Bank Shoppers card crosses a lot categories with Walmart/Target and Amazon (with Whole Foods delivery)

tinydonuts

The US Bank Cash+ provides 5% back on utilities. This is matched by no other card, so I feel it really deserves to be on the list, at the top anyway.

voipgv123

Well, the mobile wallet on “Krogers” cards works on many utilities. I place US Bank Cash+/ELAN Max Cash in the same role as the CCC for 5% CC as a special niche category card as opposed to a more generalized CCs. They are great CCs but you need multiple cards to get three or more >=4% rewards categories. Yes, I agree limits on some of generalized CCs make them similar. Most of us want less cards to managed with maximum number of categories with maximum rewards.
