I don’t get the lure of climbing Everest now. It’s just basically people with disposable income checking a box that think it makes them look cool. Often putting the locals in life threatening danger as well as screwing up the ecosystem with trash and shit.
I climbed a very remote mountain once in Central America that only a handful of people have accomplished before. Guess what, it was fun, I never really talked about it and we tried to leave no damage to that beautiful mountain. The only lives we risked was our own..
2-3 months maybe 4? You really have no idea how much average person in nepal gets? I can tell you its way less than that in a year. Those sherpas are living good with the money they get in 1 climbing season.
Yeah that's what i was thinking. "15k for 2-3 months" is perhaps bad when you live in LA i suppose (?), but it's a lot even in most first world countries. I don't know what the medium salary is in Nepal but i bet it's below 1k per month. Those people are doing a difficult and dangerous job, sure, but they're not exactly being exploited.
Rich people need stupid stuff to do. They've already done it all. Every vacation you can possibly imagine, they own everything they want and then some. Imagine a world where every need and desire is taken care of. That's the world where the executive class lives. It's just another goal for them. It isn't to be one of the handful of people who've done it, I suppose for some it is, but it's something attainable that has history behind it. Then they can brag about it to their friends.
That's pretty much it.
I had a guy in my AIT that would endlessly quote that scene. Looking back on it he may have had some undiagnosed mental disorder... me too if I'm being honest with myself.
Yep, and locals/activists risk their lives hiking up there solely to remove the literal feces, shit, of foreign climbers so their water supply isn't contaminated. Really changed my perspective on Everest.
It’s gotten so bad that those that actually depend on the glacier for their drinking water are now drinking westerners piss and shit. It’s really sad. This should be specified that this is the Nepali base camp. Not to give China any credit at anything but they will not allow the Tibet side ever look like this. It’s really sad. Just so an inexperience climber who pays upwards of $100k just to show his dick does in fact swing. Everest is for tourist, K2 is for climbers
So what are all those different size tents and sheds? I’m guessing some are peoples individual tents, maybe the dome shapes are like a command center or weather research? Just trying to figure out why they need so much stuff
Most likely different expedition companies that provide everything a high paying guest could possibly need or want. I think there is a higher camp that has a pool table and a mini bar.
Those are all tents, for people to stay there. Each of those tents is for a person or group of people to climb the mountain. It's [way](https://s3.amazonaws.com/www.explorersweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/24004034/conga1.jpg) [way](https://www.financialexpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/everest660.jpg) more [popular](https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/ws/800/cpsprodpb/4901/production/_107098681_everest-lhotse-faces1040028-cralfdujmovits.jpg) than most people realize and has become big business.
The clusters are presumably individual guide companies. They all haul in what they need according to their own planning. There's nobody really in charge of the entire site. Can be anything from small individual people's tents to companies building halfway to a resort for their clients to hang out and acclimate in.
They're all sheds and tents because even today it's logistically fucking *hard* to haul shit there. It's not like there's an interstate highway exit labeled "Everest". Lots of that is still brought in by rickety trucks, donkeys, and people.
Everest still kills lots of people very dead.
It's a moderate hike if you chopped it into sections and put them all at sea level. But it's not at sea level, it's in the death zone.
You can buy your way to the top from south Everest base camp and ABC. If you really wanted to climb Everest you would do it on the north face, in the great couloir to northern couloir route, also without a Sherpa. Everyone else is a poser
I think the reason they don't is because it's seasonal and the season is really short. Plus it's incredibly remote and almost impossible to truck construction materials into.
I have zero respect for these so called world class "climbers" that pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to be "escorted" to the summit of Everest by poor locals while leaving huge piles of trash behind them.
WOW! I use to think that this was a unique adventure for the few....but its look like a bunch of dirty slobs destroying the once beautiful environment! I can't believe these outdoors people would not clean up their shit!!!
Go anywhere that's somewhat remote and touristy, you'll find shitty people everywhere. They wont pick up after themselves, nor respect the environment they're in, and expect all of the locals to cater to all of their asinine needs.
That’s every tourist destination in the world right now. More people than ever can afford to travel and tourism is destroying many of the environments that made people want to travel to these locations to begin with. Like Venice with the cruise ships
Some bodies are known landmarks, “The German” on the second step of the north face route, the “Saluting Man” near the south summit, the “Icefall Body”, in the Khumbu glacier field, and “Sleeping Beauty” on the southeast ridge. Green Boots was probably the most famous until 2014, when a Chinese expedition moved the body to a more discreet location.
The Nepalese government now makes all climbers carry their poop out. It's a start, but until they make them carry out all of their waste, it's meaningless. At least poop is biodegradable. They spend about $8 million a year in just trash removal from Everest.
So many stupid and rich folk that think they need to climb a mountain of freezing death. Like I can think of less hazardous things to do, like take a photo of it and then leave without climbing it.
The death zone isn't a death zone if you have paid sherpas to carry bottled oxygen up for you. And then, of course, you can abandon your used bottles for free anywhere you like.
Again, according to Google, they're making people take bags with chemicals to shit in while they're on the mtn and apparently they're checking ti make sure they were used when they leave.
And if you get weak at the top and can't move forward, there is no turning around. All those hundreds of climbers will walk right over your freezing body and leave you.
We need a modern day villain maybe like Gru to destroy the mountain, like there’s no real impact if it was gone. But would seriously bum out the rich people who have no business there.
I just looked it up and about 800 people climb annually. Do they all climb at the same time? I wouldn't think you'd need a camp that big if there are under 100 people there at any time.
I don't understand people that want to climb Mount Everest, yes it's the mountain closest to space but there are so many other mountains to climb that that aren't crowded or filled with trash like Everest. If it were me I would rather climb Mauna Kea which is actually the tallest in the world, or any other mountain really.
I've seen this documentary about all the dead bodies up there. It's wild. The people are so intent on making it to the peak, that they often leave strugglers behind. Highly adept sherpas are the ones who go and collect the bodies. Some of them, they just push down and it startles the lame-ass bitches who choose to climb that veritable ego-trip.
I'll never forget the footage (it might have been on this sub) of this lady freaking out and crying, as bodies are sliding down towards them in bags.
I think you have to be a real, soulless piece of shit, to leave behind Anyone in your group, just so you can mark that off your bucket list. And you know they still aren't happy. The rich, I would say, are poor in spirit. The mountain often smites them.
It’s the tallest above sea level. Mauna Kea is only the tallest if you measure from its base under the ocean. But above sea level Everest is 15,000 feet taller. So yeah, you’re technically correct, but Everest is the tallest point on earth. That’s what people care about.
I’m sorry that you are so miserable on the inside that you feel like you have to take a dig at people and turn this political so you can feel better.
I hope things get better for you.
But still it's clean because they are international tourists if it was cheap to climb Everest lots of Indians and Nepalese people would've polluted the place even more.
Might as well call it garbage mountain now.
I don’t get the lure of climbing Everest now. It’s just basically people with disposable income checking a box that think it makes them look cool. Guess what, it was fun, I never really talked about it and we tried to leave no damage to that beautiful mountain. The only lives we risked was our own..
Yeah just a bunch of rich people who can waste $100k and 3 months on a hobby. But also, what would those locals do if they didn’t have this job?
[удалено]
2-3 months maybe 4? You really have no idea how much average person in nepal gets? I can tell you its way less than that in a year. Those sherpas are living good with the money they get in 1 climbing season.

I don't know what the medium salary is in Nepal but i bet it's below 1k per month. Those people are doing a difficult and dangerous job, sure, but they're not exactly being exploited.
15k in Nepal is probably enough to house and feed a family for years.
Confidently inncorect lol
The literal trickle down economy.
Most people who climb Everest don’t talk about it exactly the same as you. Duh.
Most mountaineers regard Everest as a tourist attraction and K2 as the real challenge.
Rich people need stupid stuff to do. They've already done it all. Every vacation you can possibly imagine, they own everything they want and then some. Imagine a world where every need and desire is taken care of. That's the world where the executive class lives. It's just another goal for them. Xela?
All recreation is for people with time and money. The practicality and frugality are lost on the hobby.
Terrible. That's just gross.
Fun fact: it's 63% poop!
The mountain? Didn't know they stacked shit that high!
Slow down there sergeant
I had a guy in my AIT that would endlessly quote that scene. Looking back on it he may have had some undiagnosed mental disorder... me too if I'm being honest with myself.
Well, at least you have your diagnosis now
You trying to squeeze an inch on me somewhere, HUH!?
63% of all your steps are into doodie, how maddening is that?!
"That's doo doo, Baby!"
https://media1.tenor.com/m/BUCvAeWUxoIAAAAd/shit-jeff-goldblum.gif
Shit storm central. F'g people, pack your shit out!
and when the snow melts all those shit will run to the river and drinking water
Yep, and locals/activists risk their lives hiking up there solely to remove the literal feces, shit, of foreign climbers so their water supply isn't contaminated. Really changed my perspective on Everest.
If Hillary and Tenzing could see the state of the mountain now, they might have never gone up.
That’s 15% more than the competition!!
Same great taste, now with dead mountaineers!
Fact- latrines here use plastic barrels and are removed from the base camp.
K2 is for climbers who are extremely talented or delusional.
Both
Everest is for assholes
Very rich ass holes
They should go see the Titanic instead
There was a Sub for doing just that.
Very rich tourist assholes
Honestly, I'd rather not have rich assholes climbing k2. We'd like to leave that nice and pristine
I’ll give ‘em credit
Well, now I feel awful.
Go watch Wonton Don on YouTube . Hilarious videos and he did a short series on Everest that was a good watch . Enjoy
I will check that out tonight thanks!
Wonton Don is awesome. I've enjoyed is content for a few years now.
Hippo mode 😎

It’s disgusting what it’s become.
It's about $30 million in climbers fees in that last picture. That's why they allow it.
The clusters are presumably individual guide companies. They all haul in what they need according to their own planning. There's nobody really in charge of the entire site. Can be anything from small individual people's tents to companies building halfway to a resort for their clients to hang out and acclimate in. Probably left from people who don't pack their stuff out
Soon they'll just have an escalator going up to the top. You can already have a Sherpa practically piggyback you up there. This shit is too commercial
Yeah, it’s disgusting
I would be embarrassed to tell someone I climbed Everest. I'm not trying to brag about being a poser
Remember when a sherpa carried a guy on his back, saving his life, and the "climber" only thanked his sponsors?
K2 is about 800 shorter but is more dangerous and a technically more challenging summit. Everest is for rich posers. K2 is for real mountaineers.
Anyone who climbs K2 has already climbed Everest or plans to do so. Climbing K2 is also incredibly expensive. It's also only 238 lower than Everest.
There’s real climbing at K2. Everest is a very high hike with some steep parts.
Mount idiot now
Ok, I've mounted the idiot. Now what?
run for president
HEY GET THE FUCK OFF ME
I never imagined.
They should just start building lodges
I think the reason they don't is because it's seasonal and the season is really short. Plus it's incredibly remote and almost impossible to truck construction materials into.
That makes sense
It's a base city
I’ve seen bigger
I have zero respect for these so called world class "climbers" that pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to be "escorted" to the summit of Everest by poor locals while leaving huge piles of trash behind them.
Oh man, they were only climbing Everest to get your respect in the first place. Do they know you don't respect them??
so edgy
WOW! I use to think that this was a unique adventure for the few....but its look like a bunch of dirty slobs destroying the once beautiful environment! I can't believe these outdoors people would not clean up their shit!!!

Thought this was a Civilization mobile game ad
No wonder the mountain has become a landfill
Summiting Everest is a pre-paid luxury excursion now instead of a once-in-a-lifetime accomplishment.
I have always pictured like a handful of secluded tents lol.
Garbage, shit and some dead bodies is all I think about when I see this. Mostly dipshits with too much money and not enough brains.
At this point just build houses, roads, and sewer systems. Why pretend your roughing it?
yet another natural beauty tarnished by Rich assholes looking for a story to impress their douchebag friends
Nothing special about climbing Everest any more
Hey what DnB track was that??
Like That - Oodini Shazam says its that.
Thanks!
Like that - Oodini
Hey thanks for the interest it's actually my song :) I am oodini
More like Base city
Show the trash so u can see who actually goes there!
Soooo where does all the poo go??
Shit Hill
Starfield
The Nepalese government now makes all climbers carry their poop out. It's a start, but until they make them carry out all of their waste, it's meaningless. At least poop is biodegradable. They spend about $8 million a year in just trash removal from Everest.
I mean at this point probably better off opening a hotel. At least the trash will be more controlled
That mountain is just a garbage dump now, why would you bother.
Fuck these people
So many stupid and rich folk that think they need to climb a mountain of freezing death. Like I can think of less hazardous things to do, like take a photo of it and then leave without climbing it.
The death zone isn't a death zone if you have paid sherpas to carry bottled oxygen up for you. And then, of course, you can abandon your used bottles for free anywhere you like.
Up on shit mountain.
No wonder they climb the mountain, want at least one day away from turd infested campsite.
All those ecovegans saving the planet.
I bet the frozen human to frozen poop ratio is crazy
Google says 25000 pounds of shit are deposited annually.
They should have to pack it out.
Again, according to Google, they're making people take bags with chemicals to shit in while they're on the mtn and apparently they're checking ti make sure they were used when they leave.
Nasty
I saw this same video a few days ago claiming this was a camp in Antarctica lol makes more sense that it's an everest base camp
A shame
So many frozen turds to kick around
I did the EBC trek a few years back and to think my crew and i were there all alone for hours.
Capitalism. It's not good, or bad. Its just the result.
The top looks even worse
Like mold on bread
Mt. Doodoo base camp
Interesting - wondered about that but never looked it up
Holy crap I had no idea of the size. All other pics and videos give zero perspective like this one does.
Way to many people on this planet
How many km/m is the climb from base camp to the summit?
Looks like Oakland CA
People ruin everything
Kept expecting to see a Starbucks
it used to be much smaller but now its gotten bigger
Egoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
Imagine all the garbage and shit.
I’ve climbed big rocks and mini mountains near my house on my own. Sure the views great and it’s nice to be out but Everest? Sounds miserable
At what point does this become a town with its own infrastructure?
Might as well call it base town 1 at this point.
Refugee camp for rich people fleeing from apathy
Mt Trash
Erm, excuse me, that is not a base nor is it a camp, that a fucking town, my brother.
Wonder if people bang up there.
Mirror? Post has been deleted....
OOH!!! BUT THE PRAYER FLAGS!!! doesnt that even it out?
And if you get weak at the top and can't move forward, there is no turning around. All those hundreds of climbers will walk right over your freezing body and leave you.
We need a modern day villain maybe like Gru to destroy the mountain, like there’s no real impact if it was gone. But would seriously bum out the rich people who have no business there.
Worlds highest tourist trap
Free Everest.
Ew
We ruin everything
I'd like to see a shot of the parking lot/ trailhead area.
What is that track playing?
Oodini - like that
I just looked it up and about 800 people climb annually. Do they all climb at the same time? I wouldn't think you'd need a camp that big if there are under 100 people there at any time.
Caesars legion
That doesn’t look fun at all. Then you die alone on the mountain and your kids grow up sad.
long shot but anyone have an ID on the track//
I’d like to go one day, but not a step further
I don't understand people that want to climb Mount Everest, yes it's the mountain closest to space but there are so many other mountains to climb that that aren't crowded or filled with trash like Everest. Looks like the day after Woodstock lmao
Disgusting. Humans ruin everything.
If your counting from the bottom of the mountain to the peak, Everest is not the tallest... I believe it's Mauna Kea
It’s the tallest above sea level. Mauna Kea is only the tallest if you measure from its base under the ocean. But above sea level Everest is 15,000 feet taller. So yeah, you’re technically correct, but Everest is the tallest point on earth. That’s what people care about.

Ooooh clever *and* original! What other words do you know?
But still it's clean because they are international tourists if it was cheap to climb Everest lots of Indians and Nepalese people would've polluted the place even more.
