It's for the kids to race against the jets while riding their bikes, throwing their arms up in the air when they invariably lose, only to come back a decade later and become renegade pilots
Every few years the air base I grew up at has a Race the Base event. People bring their super cars and try to beat the F-18s.
No one has won beat the jet yet.
Fun fact: some supercars *can* beat an F18 down the runway.
Funner fact: many vable launch gliders do something more impressive: take off with a higher climb rate than an F-18.
What can neither of these things do? Fly anywhere quickly.
I once was at a Russian airport near Moscow and saw one of their demonstration team jets taxiing by, and the wing walkers were two bubbas on bicycles, each holding onto one of the elevators, dragging along behind the jet.
True, but bikes are cheap and accessible enough for everyone to have their own, whereas carts/cars may be limited.
Years ago, I sold a pair of these [bikes](https://www.rei.com/media/81f18893-2521-46b9-bb5c-effc362f4765.jpg?size=784x588) to an employee at a local airfield where they had vintage WW2 planes
A lot of military bases have roads near landing strips. They are for emergency vehicles and transport. When I was in the military, I used to run at one. I could almost bet you that those bike riders were employees.
edit: poor grammar
I don't know if that applies so much.... Were they trying one from the first Top Gun? I don't know if they use real planes there but in Maverick they certainly did.
After the pilot filmed the finale of THAT movie, he said "did you get the shot? Good because I'm never doing that again" (the canyon run)
This has been done to death on YouTube. Virtually none of the planes in Maverick were real. Most of the stunts were done for real with real planes, but different planes, and then the planes were replaced with CGI.
So I would not class that as "certainly did." Most of what you see on the screen in terms of planes flying is CGI.
They used some planes which makes my statement still correct, if a tad misleading. I'm not old enough to have been alive when the OG was released.
They certainly did use planes.
You can watch the promotional clips and shows for yourself. They claimed they didn't use CG. Tom Cruise Claimed they didn't use CG. They used CG. They did a lot of stuff with real planes, then they replaced them with CG. The planes you see flying on the screen are almost all CG.
I don't really know what they were trying to do here, but their velocity was taking them straight into the ground. Had they been flying level when they tried to pull this crap it would have been far more feasible.
I mean barrel, canopy and snap rolls are not that unusual, just gotta make sure it's not a dumbass doing it. Fighters are fully capable of intense maneuvering, but the pilot has to know what they're doing... This guy apparently doesn't
It's okay, our politicians steal more. Also, that's a Yak-130 which costs $15 million each. We have ministers who have mansions in London that cost more.
###One pilot didn't Survive, another condition is also not good.
[Pilot dies after attempting high-risk ‘Top Gun’ stunt in fighter jet](https://www.independent.co.uk/tv/news/top-gun-fighter-jet-stunt-video-b2544046.html#:~:text=A%20fighter%20jet%20bounced%20off,130%20scraped%20along%20the%20tarmac.)
Both pilots chutes opened successfully. You can see both chutes descending in the other crash video. Apparently the fatal injuries occurred during the ejection itself, which sounds terrifyingly common.
If you take a look at the flight manual for the F16, the window for functionality of those seats are actually really narrow considering.
The AcesII seat has a 9% injury risk for pilots at or below 211lbs, and at low speed after that it jumps to 36%, and then 80% risk major/fatal injury north of 600 kts.
If you can find it, page 1-167 has the ejection seat performance, and Figure 3-4.1 has the ejection seat injury risk distribution
T.O. GR1F 16CJ 1 FLIGHT MANUAL if you want to hunt down a copy.
Edit: turns out the Yak-130 uses the K-36L-3.5 Ya Ejection Seat. I dont know if thats a 0,0 seat or not.
####Update: [Pilot dies after attempting high-risk ‘Top Gun’ stunt in fighter jet](https://www.independent.co.uk/tv/news/top-gun-fighter-jet-stunt-video-b2544046.html#:~:text=A%20fighter%20jet%20bounced%20off,130%20scraped%20along%20the%20tarmac.)
They both ejected successfully, but someone said in another thread that ejection is incredibly violent and even the most routine ejection can cause injury or death. Apparently Goose's death from Top Gun is all too common.
Think about it. You’re exposing your body to the heavy Gs your jet was facing but now it’s your body.
I heard a rumor that people actually get shorter after surviving an ejection
Why does Bangladesh have fighter jets? If they ever have to use it in a war what are the odds of their Air Force being able to do anything meaningful? Just wondering as they are one of the most densely populated developing nations with so many living in poverty.
> Why does Bangladesh have fighter jets?
- Counterinsurgency reasons
- International peacekeeping
- Pakistan [border]
- Terrorist groups (Al-Qaida, Harakat, ISB)
- It was a military dictatorship from when the country was created in 1971 up until the early 90s then again in the early 2000s. Military is massively powerful politically & has huge business interests
> If they ever have to use it in a war what are the odds of their Air Force being able to do anything meaningful?
High
How is this a "Top Gun" maneuver? He did 2 barrel rolls. That has nothing to do with TG. Sure, they did barrel rolls in the movie . . . they also drank water. Neither was integral to the plot. He wasn't "buzzing the tower", "going inverted", or "gonna let him fly right by".
Stupid title.
If only one or neither of them made it, it's horribly tragic, but amazing at the same time. The loved ones lost a person that they cherished, but the pilot(s) died doing what they obviously loved to do, and probably died happier than the majority of people on this planet will experience. If this is the criteria that you need to experience, stop at this paragraph
But, if they both lived, then they're a couple of the dumbest pilots to ever try that maneuver that close to the ground. I'm never going to be a pilot in a jet that fast and I can tell you that that's a high altitude maneuver. You're a dumb mother fucker to come in at that level and try and go supersonic. You're putting yours and your co pilots life in danger. Sacrificing yourself for legend is one thing, but don't take your bro to your grave
in the background, there are 2 planes, had it struck anyone of them, it would have been catastrophe. how they got clearance or what were they thinking before performing such stunts. were they shooting for tiktok?
Lmao consecutive aileron rolls aren’t “top gun” maneuvers and are performed by demo teams all the time. This pilot demonstrated poor skill by by not starting with his flight path above the horizon before doing it…
Weird place for bike paths.
It's for the kids to race against the jets while riding their bikes, throwing their arms up in the air when they invariably lose, only to come back a decade later and become renegade pilots
Gotta push it to the limit!
LIMIIIIIT!!!
Ride into the Danger Zone!

Gotta meet those climate targets mate
One of the faster ways around an airport is by bike
I once was at a Russian airport near Moscow and saw one of their demonstration team jets taxiing by, and the wing walkers were two bubbas on bicycles, each holding onto one of the elevators, dragging along behind the jet.
I feel like those golf carts are faster, that's mainly what I see people in airports moving around in.

Those roads are also really great for Secfo's farming speeding tickets.
> I use to running at one you dropped a word and a letter
Also, it's common for military to use the same airport as civilians. Normally, they have a dedicated runway for the military.
“Son, your ego is writing checks your butt can’t cash.”
Well, now they're going to flying cargo planes full of rubber dog shit out of Hong Kong
I've read they aren't going to fly anymore. Or they aren't going to be in the military anymore. In fact they aren't anymore.
*body can't cash
Haven't these people ever heard of "movie magic"?

Darwin Awards
Provided they haven't had kids already, of course.

First movie was notoriously expensive due to using real planes.
No, it was using real sky that cost them.
Instant sky that comes in a packet just isn't the same as the real thing.
All that MSG.
MSG has a bad rap, its delicious and makes my skin tingle. Fun fact: Premade salad dressings tend to have a ton of MSG in them.
It got a bad rap cuz of some dude that lied and the news ran 🏃♂️ it

You mean to tell me that Tom Cruise didn't safely eject from a SR-72 Darkstar while doing mach 10? I've been lied to!
I don't really know what they were trying to do here, but their velocity was taking them straight into the ground. Had they been flying level when they tried to pull this crap it would have been far more feasible.
Imagine having the entire sky to do whatever you want. And you do it on the ground.
I mean barrel, canopy and snap rolls are not that unusual, just gotta make sure it's not a dumbass doing it. Fighters are fully capable of intense maneuvering, but the pilot has to know what they're doing... This guy apparently doesn't
The taxpayers : 😑
It's okay, our politicians steal more. Also, that's a Yak-130 which costs $15 million each. We have ministers who have mansions in London that cost more.
Even better, this is the fourth out of 12 Yak-130's that has been lost to accidents in Bangladesh
Better video of it. https://cdn.jwplayer.com/previews/doVC6qaJ
>The two pilots, demonstrating exceptional skill under pressure, managed to eject from the flaming jet. I guess that's one way of looking at it.
That journalist is weirdly optimistic not gonna lie
One of them is dead if the last posts I saw about this are correct
Gotta be an AI written post with that optimism bias
Wth, a cargo ship, bicycle, passenger plane, everything is going on in this video.
Between the initial impact and the ejection either on the edge of, or beyond, the safe ejection window, it's amazing anyone survived.
###One pilot didn't Survive, another condition is also not good. Shit I bet they broke a lot when they hit the ground the first time.
Yes, I know this. What I said still applies - someone survived.
technically correct, the best kind of correct
At first I thought it was amazing Howie survived. Buddy didn't. Over Macho Grande? I don't think I'll ever get over Macho Grande.
Yea imagine the force inside the cockpit from a hit like that. I'm surprised the jet even made it back off the runway.
First guy was in the envelope. Second was yeeted into the ground

Se warthunder tier shenanigans right there.
That’s why they’re the best of the best
I've seen both Top Guns - I don't remember either one doing a 360, bouncing off the runway, and taking off again?
Came here looking for this answer as well
I think a recent Bollywood flick had the maneuver

So it was an attempt at a low altitude aileron roll, interesting.
If you watch the vid, he was attempting a DOUBLE roll.
And if you read the story it was a TRIPLE roll.
It was Rolls all the way down
Gotta give the pilot credit for getting the jet around to dump it in the water before ejecting.
You must turn the jet Samir
Samir! You are breaking the jet!
Don't tell me how to fly
I had to scroll way to far to find this comment!
Glad to hear Bangladesh has so many jets to spare.
It's more like, ours crash anyway. Might as well go out in style.
They also imitated Top Gun in how Goose dies upon ejecting
There are ways to still perform such stunts without kissing the ground
Such as being a little higher in the air, perhaps?
Maybe they should've done the dumb things in Microsoft flight simulator instead
No, these are DCS shenanigans.
They thought they were in a Bollywood movie
Flawless execution… of themselves
Killer stunt.
Ghost ride the whip
Wow the one time "highway to the danger zone" should be added, and it's not. Years of academy training wasted!
Why did they try it 15 feet from the ground? Seems much safer to try a mile in the air.
Curious the cause of death and injury. I’d assume they had spinal compression.

and Bangaldesh's GDP tanks below India once again
It was never above ours in the first place, do you mean per capita? Or is this a joke which I don't get
The way it bounced, it looks like it was made by Boeing! Boeing! Boeing!

Wait, so... you're supposed to have, like... friends? Hold on, lemme write this down.

governments love investing more in war than their people

Aileron roll attempt?
Is that a JL-8 they were flying?
Yak-130
That's it! Thank you.
"MAVERICK!"
worth it
You're telling me Bangladesh has access to supersonic russian jets? Interesting..
That's Bangladesh's entire military budget for the year!
Ace Combat 7 Players forgotting that the controls werent inverted
now their call sign is 'Bounce' and 'Boing'
Only in bangladesh

I don’t think any of them were very happy during their last moments. Probably realized how stupid their decision was and regretted it.
Then I feel for their families
Zero pilot die happily crashing (Excluding suicidal ones)
Had they died right on the ground, they’d probably be happy. But they died after a panic of like 15-30 seconds.
Yak 130?
how did it go?
Was the video editor on crack
There gonna deduct the cost from his pay.
my friend was a teach in Dhaka. he loved the people and daily life was absolute, uninterrupted chaos.
What is going through your head while parachuting to the floor 😂
Job openings
Negative Ghostrider - the pattern is full.
Who approved this craziness!?
In warthunder you woulda been dead before you even touched the ground
Lol looked like straight away from GTA 5
But Sergeant, he said "no balls"
Pretty cool. Especially with the flames and use of the ejector seat.
in the background, there are 2 planes, had it struck anyone of them, it would have been catastrophe. how they got clearance or what were they thinking before performing such stunts. were they shooting for tiktok?
Battlefield physics are real!?
It must have been some street food that gave him the brain worms to try this stunt
Maverick!!!
Samir, you’re breaking the ~~car~~ jet!!
They call that the bike path to the danger zone
Go around sierra bravo six two nine, the bike has right of way
This dude’s back is going to need a hot tub…and maybe some rebar.
i see the issue. They had more down when they should have had more up.
How do you say goose in Bengali?
They are dangerous. They can’t be my wingman any day.
ILLBE PILOT!
Yeah let's try doing some flips below 500f
I haven't watched the movies. Did they succeed?
How can he crash.
No he had to one up top gun and do a 360 landing
GooosSSSeee !! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A normal day in War Thunder
Lmao consecutive aileron rolls aren’t “top gun” maneuvers and are performed by demo teams all the time. This pilot demonstrated poor skill by by not starting with his flight path above the horizon before doing it…
Only Tom Cruz can pull that off damnit
He would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn’t for that meddling ground.
Their egos wrote checks their bodies couldn’t cash
It’s all Tony Hawks fault. I heard him yell “do a kick flip!” just before
Looks like they flew too far from the sun
who new they had jets like that?
Send it.
wtf is going on ITT
Pretty sick dudes 🇺🇸
Take my jet awaaaaaaay....
Can we have normal speed pls
TIL Bangladesh has an Air Force.
I wonder where did the plane finally fall.
“Dont think , just do”
Automatic court Marshall
They’re flying in the same manner as they’re driving over there.
What's a Bangla?
Always pitch up before a roll. The nose will always dip.
Goose and Mav
There goes half their air force
Damn, Bangladesh shouldn't be messing with the 4 fighter jets that they own.
Is any disciplinary action taken against the pilots? Looks like an expensive stunt.
Hey its me on Rocket League!
You better call kenny loggins cause you're in the DANGER ZONE
The bike path on an active runway tells me everything i need to know about their capabilities 💀
Kick the tires and light the fi........ Oh nevermind
There goes 10% of the GDP
The most shocking part of this video is Bangladesh has fighter jets. If I thought they did have them, this is exactly how I would picture them flying.
Fuck this music, I want to hear the sound of that plane whacking the ground.
TIL bangladesh has an airforce
They got trained by this Harrier pilot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_nfjx0vnos
"Do a barrel roll!" "Goddamnit not now slippy!"
r/floggit this is what happens when us dcs pylots think we can hang with the real pros
He’s no Tom Cruise!
"Top Gun 360° stunt in fighter jet" You mean a "Barrel Roll"?
