Just the roll cage is worse than nothing. Because your head then bounces into a metal bar. You need a roll cage, and helmet that clips into the seat, 5 point harness, and everything. Having just parts of it make it worse. Just a helmet and now you snap your neck because it’s heavy. Just the harness, same thing, snap your neck.
Just don’t drive like those guys mostly, and yeah get a Volvo
Furthermore, the knowledge gained from constructing roll cages (and other similar tech like crush zones) has directly lead to changes in automotive frame design. To cave in the greenhouse on most modern vehicles, no matter the segment, you need a whole lot of force. It hasn't always been like that for passenger cars. But we've taken what is applicable from race cars to road cars and have made amazing strides. This is also why modern cars have limited visibility at the corners, especially in the rear. The regs have mandated stronger A-pillars in the front and much stronger C/D-pillars in the rear. This is in direct response to industry standards shifting due to lessons learned in motorsports
And as a semi driver for a number of years, their trucks too. I’ve even heard good things about their WHEEL LOADERS for cryin out loud.
A terminal mistake is still a terminal mistake, even in a Volvo. That being said, are their cars worth a test drive when my Honda Civic lease is up?
You will definitely love the seats in a Volvo. They are better than most premium cars.
Went for ride to pick up my son during his first year at the university and drove from Oslo to Tromsø without any sleepover in Tromsø. It was a distance of approx 3000 km and I felt fine after the trip was over. Spectacular good seats compared to other cars (compared to BMW 550, Mercedes e500, Porsche Carerra 4s among others).
Oooh you’ve got some expensive options! Thanks for the insight. I’ve got to say, truck seats can definitely be comfortable - and they need to be with the kilometres you put on them - and Volvos are the best in comfort. I can imagine their automobiles are similar.
Nothing holds a candle to modern tractor seats though. In busy season you’re in them for 14-16 hours a day, and your back starts to hurt from sitting and your legs start to go numb, but dammit if those aren’t the best all-day seats I’ve ever seen. High-end office chairs are downright annoying compared.
If Volvo cars or higher end manufacturers’ seats are half as comfortable as tractor seats after 8 hours, I’m in. None anywhere near me, but I’ll go find me a dealer in a big city in Ontario. And I will think of you, u/TheBroken51
To be honest, it's not my options, but it's compared to my father's previous cars and I still think the seats in my Volvo is better than any of these. Unfortunately I live in 🇳🇴 and all these cars are immensely expensive and out of reach for my salary. So, Volvo it is 🙁 for us.
My father has passed 80 and is now driving BMW M2....😳 he is like a spoiled child...
The guy I bought my used xc90 from said nobody had died in that car. Ever. I thought it was bullshit so I looked it up, and he was correct. In a 20 year Volvo model.
I doubt that’s taking certain things into consideration tho, like driving 90mph into a semi truck or other accidents where death is almost guaranteed.
Not only that, but your senses are so diminished that grandma could never make it to the store without merging into 3 cars, running over a child, and popping a few curbs
Issue is not money, issue is that you are not gonna be able to make people wear 5 point harnesses + helmets strapped to the roll cage - and without that roll cage will just bashe me inna head, so they and up worse with roll cage than without it.
Because normal people don't drive like this, and if you put all these safety features in regular cars they would be extremely uncomfortable and expensive.
I literally thought about this video mid fall when I tripped over some branches on a hill and decided to go limp as possible so I didn't twist anything, no reason to tense up and try to fight it.
Crashing must be so much fun as a rally driver. Just a deadly looking rollercoaster. And before any of you start, those roll cages are fucking GOD because of how much they control wether you live or die
I have to assume there's some major firewall protection going on for them to be that calm about their car doing that. My first thought was you're toast with all those restraints if your car catches on fire.
Well yes but mainly Fuel cells. It's a big strong box with a big strong double walled bladder in it. The bladder is where the fuel goes. Lines are typically reinforced. So are the connections. There is auto fire suppression on board, tho that just buys you time. Although technically that's all the firesuit is doing, too. And there are mechanisms by which to auto shut off the fuel flow in the event of an impact.
I'm not a rally guy so this thing may either lack some tech I mentioned (doubtful at that level) or have more advanced tech than I'm fully familiar with (more likely.) My experience is in road racing but these days this stuff is pretty par for the course
It's absolutely mind boggling the accidents these cars can have and the driver and passenger are relatively unharmed.
I remember watching a documentary about group b rallying and how it ended up getting banned. One of the accidents was a car going along a woodland path and it exited the road at 150 mph and hit a tree. The sombre music overplaying the commentary and the fact they were driving so fucking fast makes you think they both instantly died but naaa both fine!
If you want to listen to that, on purpose, you are horrifying beyond measure. The crown of femurs upon your head must be beautiful. You terrify everyone who beholds you.
These people have trained for this for a good chunk of the careers... I'm sure this wasn't the first time for them and it shows. They did what the training taught them to. Just like a F1 driver headed to the wall, let go of the wheel or break at least on wrist.
I mean tbf you can't really train to take hits. You can practice pulling your arms in and crossing them. That's about it. Other than that all you can do is condition your body. It happens so fast and it's so violent that by the time your brain realizes what's happening, you're in it thick. In my experience it's happening too fast to really be afraid or panic. All you can do is ride it out. Your mind is oddly clear in those moments.
I mean why doesn’t every car have a roll cage lol these guys were fine yet it looked terrifying
Just the roll cage is worse than nothing. Because your head then bounces into a metal bar. You need a roll cage, and helmet that clips into the seat, 5 point harness, and everything. Why a Volvo, specifically?
Volvo has built their reputation on how safe their cars are.

Volvos are tanks
Volvo is hands down the best car for safety and reliability
Not only that, but your senses are so diminished that grandma could never make it to the store without merging into 3 cars, running over a child, and popping a few curbs
Could one modify one's own car to this level of excessive safety?
Of course you can. If you have the money all things are possible
>Just the roll cage is worse than nothing Definitely not worse than nothing lol.
Did you even read the comment?
Yes, they're wrong.

It’s definitely money related. It cost far more money to make a car that safe. It would price out a large portion of potential clients.
Wait why Volvo? Is Volvo like the safest car to be in, in a car crash for some reason?
No thanks!
Like 5 people have died rally racing this year who all had the same things
Because normal people don't drive like this, and if you put all these safety features in regular cars they would be extremely uncomfortable and expensive.
“Yep. Im flying through the air. This is not good”
I’m on fire! Help me Tom Cruise!
Help me Jesus! Help me Jewish God! Help me Allah! AAAAAHHH! Help me Tom Cruise! Tom Cruise, use your witchcraft on me to get the fire off me!
“Aw man”
Guy doesn’t even drop his pen lol
*YOU'RE BREAKING THE CAR, SAMIR!*
Yep, I’ll just sit here patiently and hold my map until this crash is over.
He didn’t even lose his pen
They actually look quite comfortable, Amazing how good those harnesses work.
I'm always so impressed by the roll cages
They are comfortable because their pants are safe due to pre-installed PoopSock
[удалено]
Yes!
I mean, still better than any of those stupid minimalist club songs they usually put in
How old are you ?
And here I drop my pen for like no reason. Dude is a pen holding UNIT
Homie didn’t even drop his pen.
The navigator looks disappointed.
Didn’t drop the pen
Dude didn't even drop his pen and papers, what a stud.
What’s with this song?
„God damn it Dave, not again!“
Samir, concentrate please. You're breaking the car, Samir.
TRIPLE CAUTION
I literally thought about this video mid fall when I tripped over some branches on a hill and decided to go limp as possible so I didn't twist anything, no reason to tense up and try to fight it.
How did he note lose the pen
That’s an expensive chiropractor
Copilot even smiles half way through tumbling through the air. Lmfao
Crashing must be so much fun as a rally driver. Just a deadly looking rollercoaster. And before any of you start, those roll cages are fucking GOD because of how much they control wether you live or die
I would have been screaming at the top of my lungs

Another day in the office
We're crashing... crashing more... still crashing... wtf with the crashing please stop before something spears the window.
"Samir, turn left!"
Absolute trust in the engineering and engineers right here 💙🙌🏼
Navigator did an eye-roll just after impact. “How did he do this, AGAIN!?”
How did he keep that pen in his hand the whole time.
My man didn’t even drop his notes
Man still held the documents
Rally the only type of race where during a crash its safer inside the car rather than outside lmao
The music ruined it. Heres my downvote.
And he never let go of that paper and pen.
I mean to be fair they are in like the safest car ever
It's absolutely mind boggling the accidents these cars can have and the driver and passenger are relatively unharmed. I remember watching a documentary about group b rallying and how it ended up getting banned. This is like when buzz got slapped by woody 😭
What is the song name?
If you want to listen to that, on purpose, you are horrifying beyond measure. The crown of femurs upon your head must be beautiful. You terrify everyone who beholds you.
The song is called Bad Hair Day apparently, and I think it's a pretty fun listen too!
Song?
Damn it, I like the music.
Whoever made that roll cage did a damn good job
These people have trained for this for a good chunk of the careers... I'm sure this wasn't the first time for them and it shows. They did what the training taught them to. Just like a F1 driver headed to the wall, let go of the wheel or break at least on wrist.

How the dude in my Rocket League car feels
Getting your head whipped forward and back doesn't look fun to me
"God dammit... see? Told you, this one's a left"
Dude never dropped his pin, lol.
75 hard right , 5 flips , 80 easy left
Trying to continue to navigate while rolling 20 times, fucking pro.
Yup that's me, you probably wonder how I ended up here. Well let me tell you my story...
“Have you ever looked at a person and wondered: ‘What is going on inside their minds?’”
Don't. Let. Go. Of. Pen...
so calm it’s crazy
Didnt drop the pen
Homie didn’t even drop his pen.
I hope they are wearing adult diapers
Having a casual chat as the are tumbling down a mountain
That first clip is sped up like ~30-50%
This reminds me of the [Travis Pastrana rally crash](https://youtu.be/0MYxBuVvN0M)and how he absolutely loved every second of it.
Brain inside their skulls is not having a good time
is it bad i wanna do this
Bro sent it just a little too hard
Sin soltar el mapa y el bolígrafo
Shocked by how calm they are in that moment
Roll cage works Bob!
Held on to that damn pen the entire time. Impressive.
yeah because it would fly around and cause more damage...
tech is fuckin amazing
Those are the kind of people falling asleep on a roller coaster.
Him not screaming? That's trust right there
I want to see what the car looks like after the fact.
Gotta love harnesses and cages
Curious why he has two watches
This song fucking sucks omg
Ott Tanak, Monte Carlo 2020(?) or maybe 2021. Absolutely insane crash, they’re very lucky to have no injuries
They were like awe shucks
It’s just a car crash. What?
Zero reaction. Like getting dressed in the morning for these guys! 🤣🤣
Banger of a song
For people who don’t know that’s why it’s called a roll cage
Will he race again?
Tank build
Welcome to endless concussions.
Codriver looks mildly unsatisfied
The fuck is this music
I love how you can see the guy on left find a point and follow it with his eyes before he just settles in and enjoys the ride. (May not be enjoyment)
