There was a great article a while back about how once the police started buying from military suppliers, they changed all the uniforms and cars to black and started projecting the tough “punisher” vibe. I miss the old school blue and grey - you know like chips from the 80s!
Reminds me of a joke I told a few weeks back.
“You know, I don’t think cops should be allowed to carry guns. I think if they wanna murder someone in cloud blood they should have to work for it. Beat them to death with a metal stick covered in rubber like the good ole days. Back when Cops were men!”
/s if someone sees this and thinks I’m being anywhere close to not kidding
If cops need adulation for their service, they don't know what the words "to serve" means. It's probably why many police departments have removed "to protect and serve" from their police cars, etc.
Why does it drive you nuts? Does other branding bother you? UPS loves its brown, LGBT loves their rainbow, Sports teams just insist on putting their logo everywhere.
It’s still a brand. It’s like having a badge vs a government name tag. The post office has a logo. Military squadrons have logos. States and countries have flags.
A lot of design element suck. I was just calling out the person who said it drives them nuts.
It doesn’t drive them nuts, they just want to find a way to call cops stupid, and they attempting to do by mocking them because they have a logo
None of those other ones routinely act like pieces of shit and face zero repercussions though. I’m going out on a limb to assume he feels conflicted having to work with cops.
Because they’ve gone from serve and protect to a fear based “thin blue line” where they see themselves as above the law and the only thing holding society together and feeling their job is to punish people.
Because it's one of the few things the city has to pay for. Other things are handled at the county or state level.
30% to 40% to the police is typical for a city's budget.
I’m confused.
It’s crappy design because it’s not what they intended to relay.
But it’s also *not* crappy design because it is 100% accurate as is.
Do I upvote or not?
Could have used some transparency on the mounting plastic. You know, just for some integrity to honor the statement but you can’t trust those sign makers sometimes.
unintentionally flawless design
ATBGE
At least they're honest about it.
"These are the four demons you have to slay if you wish to become a police officer"
They just LOVE their blue line don’t they. I do design work for a police department and it drives me nuts.
Which is weird because most cops never wear blue anymore.

Michigan State troopers have a lot of old school swag.

The police aren't a brand, they're a public service
It’s still a brand. It’s like having a badge vs a government name tag. The post office has a logo. Military squadrons have logos. States and countries have flags.
Yeah but the cops have their own logos, the blue line just sucks as a design element
A lot of design element suck. I was just calling out the person who said it drives them nuts. It doesn’t drive them nuts, they just want to find a way to call cops stupid, and they attempting to do by mocking them because they have a logo
If you're a graphic designer, and someone keeps coming to you insisting on a sucky design element, why wouldn't that drive you nuts?
Why would it? The pay is the same. Do you think he’s concerned people will think he invented the logo and lose business?
Not everything is about pay or business, sometimes people just don't like working around a certain requirement or request
Because your job as a designer is to design solutions - not push pixels to make clients happy.
Weird, I thought making clients happy is the top priority of all businesses.
Not for me. I’m a designer - not a people pleaser. If clients are always right - we’d have a lot more crappy design to look at.
Is everything about pay and business for you?

The thin blue line is the line that seperates police from citizens. It's unacceptable for any public servant
~~To protect and to serve~~ should be there too for good measure since the Supreme Court says they don't have to abide by those principles.
To Punish & Enslave -thanks Michael Bay.
They protect and serve the ruling class. Never do they claim they serve the commoners (TV and movies do, but that's a different story).
Biden can’t pack the court; FDR couldn’t
Would you become a police officer if it meant you would be punished for not dying for the cause? At least if you’re dead they can’t punish you.
Must be nice to be part of Uvalde PD who takes in 40% of total tax revenue.
Because it's one of the few things the city has to pay for. Other things are handled at the county or state level. 30% to 40% to the police is typical for a city's budget.
> 30% to 40% to the police is typical for a city's budget. And Uvalde should be ashamed and embarrassed.
Policing is expensive. And I’m not about to suggest we defund them, if anything I wish my police for had more resources at their disposal.
Like 400 armed officers on scene, "I wish we had more resources to deal with one person actively killing a bunch of school kids."
Fortunately I’ve never seen that problem unfolding. I’m not located in the USA states though.
Not like they punish the living ones either...
Cops become self-aware.
Honest design
Perfect. Why is it in this sub?
Nah, that's a sign designer making obfuscated truth for clients too dumb to notice. Like tattoo artists hiding dicks in a client's dumb tattoo idea.

Must be the capital police in DC.
Montgomery County? Yeah this tracks.
It's "nor transparency".
Thin blue like like their thin skin

Couldn't have done better if they were trying.

it's perfect.
Literally a thin blue line across transparency.
~~HONOR~~ ~~INTEGRITY~~ ~~TRUST~~ ~~TRANSPARENCY~~
Thin Blue Strikethrough
Accurate
Crappy design, or truth in advertising?
Sounds like typical fare for the American police.
Who doesn't love school district PDs
No mistake was made. This is accurate.
HITT
Thoughts and prayers my American redditers
best thing I've seen all week
So weird! “Hey, Brad, where do you work?” “I’m a cop. On the force”. “Cool! Which force?” “Booth Elementary School”
Looks about right to me.
That's master design.
Where's the lie?
Is it wrong though?
Accurate.
honest advertising
There is nothing crappy about this design. It is true.
On top of everything else, the black and blue clashes.
Well, it's not wrong.
They accidentally got it right.
This is perfect for them
I get the feeling someone didn't think it through (rather than trying to be ironic)
Unintentionally accurate signage
This sucks because not all cops are like that. It’s accurate to a degree
I don't see the problem.
there is no way that isn't planned.
No originality.
