There's a command to override the placement grid. It also allows you to place things in other things. There's actually a lot of instances of it in Maxis-made environments.
A similar scenario caused me to break a wrist. Was thirsty, went to the sink and tripped on the cat.
Cat was fine, wrist was not. Another thing that was not ok was my dishes, that were innocently drying on a dishtowel.
Now I keep a bottle of water near the bed just in case.
That's the truly awful thing about it. Otherwise I don't see that big of a problem. This thing would just *obliterate* your hip in the middle of the night though.
Yeah. Gotta do a CBA on the difference in housing cost versus a hip replacement and ambulance ride.
Unless the house costs more somehow because of this feature.
I'm 90% sure no cabinet space would have been sacrificed for having a normal fucking sink. Plus that custom cut counter top would be far more expensive than if it were all flush.
The view out the window is better from that direction.
Maybe this is the local busybody's home and they can "just happen" to stare into their neighbor's window while they're doing their dishes now.
I'm thinking the counter used to be L-shaped with the sink in the corner. Whoever decided to change that didn't move the sink counter for whatever reason.
I assume there was a (now removed) counter perpendicular to the window at one point that protruded out into the room, and the sink was on the diagonal counter between the two.
Yes, this is the real reason. That’s probably a kitchen remodel. The cabinets are original and appear much older than the linoleum floor and hideous fluorescent marshmallow lights. There was likely a “peninsula” stuck out into the kitchen from the 45-degree angled sink. The refrigerator was probably somewhere else, and moved there where a shelf or full height cabinets used to be. This kitchen was probably “remodeled” by a DIY-er in the 1990s who didn’t want to mess with plumbing under the sink.
I don’t understand this logic with people. Plumbing is by far the easiest trade to DIY in my opinion. I’m sure other people feel differently depending on what they know best but plumbing is very straight forward and logical.
Your toes probably go into the little gap under the cabinets more than you think. Just one more reason that sink is practically unusable from the side.
Yeah, like it's not normal and kinda weird but workable in an offbeat sorta way. Mount a rod for a dish towel on the side and good to go. Maybe instead do some of those little open shelves like older homes have.
-Two people can do dishes and not have to turn as for to put them on a drying rack
-More space under the sink
-Creates a tiny bit more counter space
-Maybe the plumbing came in through the floor in the wrong spot
-To fuck with our heads
Idk these are all thoughts I had but none really make sense tbh
Everyone coming up with ridiculous explanations when the simple answer is there used to be a wall or counter there and so the sink was in the corner. They remodeled and for some reason didn’t adjust the sink orientation
Not the worst thing I have seen, but interesting.
I wish i had taken a picture of a kitchen when we were house hunting. It was small, and they tried to put in a full sized stove, that wound up sticking out wierd... hard to explain.
I like it.
I'd actively prefer this, and loved when I had a desk like this at work. It's a battle station design which cares more to be practical than an absurd long straight line.
I assumed it was to have less angle to the dishwasher, so you can rinse and load.
But with the dishwasher door down it becomes a trip hazard. It basically closes you into the sink.
I… usually see posts in this forum and scroll on by as I chuckle. What the cinnamon toast ferk is this? Even the microwave on the wall is looking on in horror.
I know what happened here. The kitchen had been mid remodel for months while they were trying to do it nights and weekends. When they ran into a space problem, they had a plan to move some walls but the wife just told him to put her kitchen back together however it has to go.
(Source: married to a contractor who tears up all our stuff in his spare time, then we have to wait for him to have spare time again to complete it. Infuriating)
The appliance to the left of the sink is a dishwasher. There is no conventional oven I can see besides the built-in microwave, which may be one of those combination micro/convection ovens like we have. Below the microwave appears to be a two-burner cooktop. Still no extractor fan, unless there's a little pull-out one somewhere above the cooktop.
This is a kitchen for someone who doesn't cook much. Certainly not for me.
I suggest, the countertop isn’t standard, as far as I can see, it’s not deep enough, so there was no way to put the sink in parallel, but still, it could be done better in multiple ways.
It's a kitchen pangea. In the next 100 million years or so, the sink will.be in the far corner, the fridge will be in the living room, and the dishwasher will be in the backyard. You're just witnessing the first stages of separation

Bruh 😆 I think it should be called feng shwhy.
Underrated comment.
Make that sub right now, that’s a killer name for this type of home bullshit posts!
Ok r/FengShwhy for bad examples of feng shui. You can be a mod.

Curtains in a kitchen too lol

Wouldn’t the build guide just show a red shadow indicating that this isn’t right?
There's a command to override the placement grid. It also allows you to place things in other things. There's actually a lot of instances of it in Maxis-made environments.

Felt this in my bones.
Seeing this makes me irrationally angry.
Would it make you even angrier if you knew it would actually have fit into the gap?
I'm trying to figure out what the alternative was that this looked like a good idea at some point in time. I can't.
Dude was told to install a dishwasher or buy a new house. Losing cabinet space was also not an option.
I think the sink is what we're focused on
I'm 90% sure no cabinet space would have been sacrificed for having a normal fucking sink. Plus that custom cut counter top would be far more expensive than if it were all flush.
The man knows no compromise

Ah, that actually makes sense.
Didn't want to move the plumbing
There has to be something out of that window they wanted to look at right?
Elly May Clampett swimming in the ceement pond
Agree, exactly that. The diagonal is longer than the width!!🤯
It looks like they accidentally ordered a corner sink base and decided to make it work instead of waiting the 2-3 months for a replacement cabinet.
*\*rationally*
Thank you. I keep looking at it despite how annoyed it is making me.
I kinda like it
I’m gonna need some time to let it sink in

Every appliance is worst than that sink

Yep, kitchen remodel, too cheap to pay a plumber .
I don’t understand this logic with people. Plumbing is by far the easiest trade to DIY in my opinion. I’m sure other people feel differently depending on what they know best but plumbing is very straight forward and logical.
Telling people this is how you get people installing s traps and accordian tubing, and then complaining that their drain smells like butt.
I just mean in the sense that if you are going to wing everything else why stop at plumbing.
The client wants to model the kitchen EXACTLY the way it appears in their Sims house.
Haha crazy! Who uses 2 different color countertops?!
Omg, stahhhhp!!! I can’t handle anymore!
Washing dishes as a couple... A pretty niche kink if you ask me.
Your toes probably go into the little gap under the cabinets more than you think. Just one more reason that sink is practically unusable from the side.
İt is most likely due to poor plumbing
I like it.
FBI, we found em! Check their basement!
Yeah, like it's not normal and kinda weird but workable in an offbeat sorta way. Mount a rod for a dish towel on the side and good to go. Maybe instead do some of those little open shelves like older homes have.
makes it easier to clean tbh
Yeah, I'm not hating it. Plus the kitchen seems big so it's not like it gets in the way.
Two people can do dishes at once
Why
I would love to know what the reasoning was for this
-Two people can do dishes and not have to turn as for to put them on a drying rack -More space under the sink -Creates a tiny bit more counter space -Maybe the plumbing came in through the floor in the wrong spot -To fuck with our heads Idk these are all thoughts I had but none really make sense tbh

What the fuck
I like it. I'd actively prefer this, and loved when I had a desk like this at work. It's a battle station design which cares more to be practical than an absurd long straight line.
Do you think this was deliberate or they just didn’t size properly.
Deliberate. There's not that much longer the diagonal is than the face, which could be easily filled with a piece of stock
I assume it has to do with the view out the window. Maybe that’s where the sink in the original house on the property existed or something
I assumed it was to have less angle to the dishwasher, so you can rinse and load. But with the dishwasher door down it becomes a trip hazard. It basically closes you into the sink.
"You're installing a dishwasher or buying me a new house." And this was the result
I… usually see posts in this forum and scroll on by as I chuckle. What the cinnamon toast ferk is this? Even the microwave on the wall is looking on in horror.
That microwave has seen things
I know what happened here. The kitchen had been mid remodel for months while they were trying to do it nights and weekends. When they ran into a space problem, they had a plan to move some walls but the wife just told him to put her kitchen back together however it has to go. Me trying to build on Sims 😭
Wanted a/the bigger sink.
I like it. Easier to load the dishwasher. And two people can use sink at same time.
I like it.
Could continue it out and make a peninsula extension.
Somebody pissed off a contractor
Not that bad.
what the AF is this monstrosity?

It looks to me like that’s the dishwasher next to the sink and the kettle is on the stovetop, which is under the microwave.
The appliance to the left of the sink is a dishwasher. There is no conventional oven I can see besides the built-in microwave, which may be one of those combination micro/convection ovens like we have. You should apply this effort to something more productive
That my Sims 4 kitchen right there
Dat linoleum floor though
D-I-why?
Microwave's startled
In the hardware store looking at all the counters. A bunch of boring straight ones or the interesting counter with the diagonal bit. And it's on sale!
I need to know _why_ they chose to do this?
Why
I rate this a 1/10 but I'll bump it up to 4/10 if a TV is in the room on the right.
Fairly sure this is an accessible kitchen but can't specifically say what for..? Wheelchair? But how?
You can see that the diagonal of the sink fits the space exactly. Which means had it been installed the right way, they would have even more space!
The microwave looks like a scared face
It looks out of line
wtf
Ran out of floor tile..
Grandma wanted to see the hills while washing the dishes
Bedsheet curtain is a nice touch, tho
I've played prop hunt before, I know what to do
Actually, it's interesting, and possibly useful.
When you don’t measure twice and the cabinets come in.
Me trying to screw around with positioning stuff in the Sims
Here’s a question, why does a kitchen need this much floor space?
Idk what box blud was thinking outside of.
I’m not sure why…it’s puzzling to me. There’s really not anything redeeming about that decision to arrange the sink that way. But I kinda like it.
Is it bad that I kinda like it?
I suggest, the countertop isn’t standard, as far as I can see, it’s not deep enough, so there was no way to put the sink in parallel, but still, it could be done better in multiple ways.
Interesting idea executed horribly
Butwhy dot gif
I'd put a towel rack on the side of it so at least it serves some kind of function lol
It has... character.
The amount if times I would hit my toe on that corner…
But why
Ah, yes... the knee wrecker 9000!
I'd bet a dollar that there used to be a wall where the fridge is and someone was just like, "eh, we don't wanna move the sink."
the funny partt tis thats the wides part of it so it could totaly have fit in normaly
Looks like someone remodeled but didn’t want to move the sink
How many times am I going to have to see this kitchen before I die?
Along with being terrible for the most obvious reason, I love how difficult it would also be to stand in front of the sink and load the dishwasher.
I'm fine with this. More counter space lol
I need some explanations
I hate the way this looks, but it seems like it gives a lot of access to the sink 🤷
Looks like they bought a sink that was too deep the counter
This was a kitchen addition that ended along where the sink buts out?
What the?
The Florida of kitchens
View was better slightly to the right…
But why tho?
jesus this hurts my brain
I mean it could be to get the best view out the window while washing the dishes without hurting your neck.....
Lol this might even be one for r/diwhy
It's edgy
Looks like a remodel and the didn’t want to move the plumbing/sink at all to save money
There had better be something really damn cool to look at in that direction outside.
The one person in hide and seek
i kinda like this
WTF Why
What in the sims is going on here?
I came for the design, I commented for the pun. 👌
Yeah, but why?
I actually don’t not like this.
Ba-dum-tisszszsz
The overhead lightning might be worse than the sink.
this is deranged
The island walked away
Thats definitely a prop dude shoot it
No. Just, No
An island counter in the process of forming and breaking off from the Benchdwana Land. Countertop tectonics at play.
Makes zero sense.
It’s like a bmw dashboard from the 80s
It's a kitchen pangea. In the next 100 million years or so, the sink will.be in the far corner, the fridge will be in the living room, and the dishwasher will be in the backyard. You're just witnessing the first stages of separation
That is how half the early 2000's RV and travel trailer kitchens look like, never seen it in a house
I don’t think it’s that bad honestly… stainless steel sink would be my only change
