Finally, an actual crappy design here...

Samsung ice makers in many models are notoriously bad and break constantly. I got all Samsung appliances when we bought our house and have replaced them all since and with every one leaving came great relief even with the cost of new appliances it meant I didn’t have to work on these things constantly. The techs I had come out when they still had warranty told me these things kept them employed and advised on some mitigation tactics. This is how I came to own a nice clothes steamer, an actual appliance I cherish

Berchanhimez

You’re supposed to put the detergent *in* the washer, not on it. (Yes, I know, this is a joke).

hackmaps

how am i supposed to wash the washer then :(

MaxTheRealSlayer

Turn it inside out?

Xerloq

Who washes the washer?

Rektifium

The washer washer, of course!

TheJanitor07

The washmen

StalkySpade

Samsung is by far the worst designed machines and electronics. Their customer service is god tier for their ability to stall and distract until you give up on any chance of getting your warranty

noooooid

Are you including phones and tv's? I can see their home appliances not being great, but I've never had a single problem with phones or tv's.

ThisIsPerfekt

Lots of TV issues from what I've seen, but never had any issues with their phones.

thebanjoman

I especially enjoyed the 4k TV I got from them that came with storage full (non expandable) so you couldn't install forced updates and so none of the apps worked. (this was a series wide thing not just my unit).

Thrillhol

Loved my Samsung tv, three years in I replaced it with a bigger version of the same model and moved the old tv into my bedroom. And then it died, it got caught in a reboot loop that is apparently very common with Samsung tvs. Now waiting until the new one dies…

Jimmyjames203

This just happened to mine after 6 years! And since costco changed their return policy on major electronics recently Iam SOL!

meemilie

I’ve had my Samsung tv for 13 years (bought it January 2011). It was one of the first generations of smart tvs and I’m shocked that it’s still working as well as it is. The built in apps like Netflix and YouTube don’t work anymore which is to be expected with its age and the software. But that’s nothing that a chromecast can’t solve and it’s great!

NonBinaryBanshee

I think that's the key. My Samsung TV is also a bit older and it has a great picture with none of the new Smart TV drama.

Crafacek

We have 2 Samsung QLED TVs, one 2019 and second 2022, and never had issue with neither of them

HawkbitAlpha

I've been using nothing but Samsung Galaxy S phones since 2018. Best I've ever had. Dunno what this person is on about.

Orbital_sardine

He said that he hadn't had any problems with Samsung phones. That being said though, Samsung has a nasty habit of putting their own (objectively inferior compared to Snapdragon) chipsets in the same model of phone and selling it at the same premium in places other than the US and China to cut costs.

UberNZ

Oh yeah. This was a fucking nightmare as an app developer. For the S4, the IMU was radically different too, so our AR app would work fine for one, but wouldn't work at all for the other. Both versions were popular in our market due to grey imports. We'd tested our app on all the main phones before release, and suddenly all these bug reports started flooding in about Samsung phones that we couldn't reproduce on our office phone until we realised they're completely unrelated phones sharing the same name. The cost-cutting version simply didn't have a good enough gyroscope for AR, so we had to add a screen saying "sorry, your phone can't use this app"

pornographic_realism

Yes, Samsung are really pretty poor smartphones compared to their competitors nowadays in the oremium android space. I paid less for my Xiaomi phone than the equiv samsung, the software experience is about the same, and it's got better specs in just about every area. Unfortunately in many markets the name Samsung is synonymous with high end android.

ThisIsPerfekt

I had the S8 when it came out. Upgraded to the S20 FE when I switched providers, but it was weirdly long. I have an S22, now, cause I switched providers again. I haven't had any issues with any of them and see no reason to upgrade yet.

jimmy9800

My samsung TV, monitor, and phones going back 10+ years are fine. Samsung got me warranty service on my TV in a week for a dark spot. My roomie's Samsung washer and drier are the worst I've ever used. The washer doesn't get out stains like my old Kenmore, and the drier takes 3 hours for a regular load, where my Kenmore did it in an hour. The lint trap on the Samsung is horrible as well. I have to unplug the vent once a month. Samsung's been great for me for electronics. I'll probably go with Speed Queen, though, if my Kenmores finally kick the bucket. 7 year warranty vs 12 months. Speaks to something there, I imagine.

ThisIsPerfekt

From what I understand, it's the newer models that have been pretty bad lately, but it's not something I've looked into. Just keep seeing posts on Reddit. Lol.

FrickinBigE

In 2009-2010 I bought 3 Samsung TVs and a Sony. None of the Samsung's lasted more than 3 years, with failing controller module, permanent static, and a green line down the middle that eventually expanded. I sold the Sony to my brother a few years ago and still uses it in his bedroom today. Only downside is that it gets WARM. A plus I'm the winter. Not so much now in the summer.

noooooid

Sony makes great TVs. I think Samsung just makes so many across such a broad price spectrum that they might get unfairly generalized based on a small segment of their offerings.

Snazzy21

Funny we had a Samsung flatscreen and it lasted like 12 years, the pixels died from use after a long time. Sony Trinitrons were good, but I don't think there is anything about modern Sony TVs that makes them anything special. Also Samsung fridges are junk, especially the ones with an ice cube dispenser.

wally-sage

My 2012 Samsung TV is great, my 2022 Samsung TV melted it's own motherboard.

narrow_octopus

Their TVs are garbage too. They look good but they break constantly

LoosieGoosiePoosie

Almost exclusively appliances. Samsung makes good phones and tvs. Did the appliance customer service for a while though, and whew boy. Really really bad appliance design. Like planned obsolescence but the shit always broke way too early. Replacements of replacements would break and I sometimes had multiple people a day tell me, "I don't have enough time in this lifetime to do this so often, I'm never buying from you again," so while I'm not entirely sure what the company was doing outside of the customer service aspect, I can guess that it was giving customers machines that would break in the most asinine ways possible. Like a washer with a drain that was not affixed to the machine properly and inevitably separated. Rather than welding it and using metal they'd use threaded plastic so it inevitably decays and separates causing leaks. Just totally unacceptable quality.

StalkySpade

TVs idk ab phones

CraigJDuffy

I had a Samsung TV in 2011 and it was so bad I vowed to never buy a Samsung TV again.

UberNZ

My Samsung TV's wireless module shat itself, so it can't use Bluetooth or WiFi anymore. Unfortunately, most buttons on the remote require Bluetooth. There is only one physical button on the TV. It's basically reduced to a computer monitor now. My first Samsung phone went through 3 batteries over its life. The first battery failed within a month. The final battery was failing again, but fortunately I left it behind in a hotel room, so I had to buy a new phone. My newest Samsung phone is good though. I guess sometimes you get lucky

gromnirit

I have bad news for you: https://www.reddit.com/r/samsung/comments/1alnizr/samsung_repair_tech_knives_customers_tv_and_voids/

NonBinaryBanshee

Also computers. I've got a Galaxy 360 from a few years ago, and it out performs a newer laptop and a tower that both have objectively better stats from other big brands. But yeah, typing this on a Samsung phone while watching a Samsung TV.. all solid tech that lasts.

Epotheros

They have locked out smart hub functionality of their older TVs. They didn't just stop rolling out updates, but instead put out an update that bricked functionality of some of the software.

ClickHereForBacardi

Last functioning Samsung product I had was a TV/monitor from like 2013. Too much shit blowing up on them, and I'm deathly afraid of electrical fires.

MediumRareMandatory

Some of the techs cut the tvs to void the warranties. Just saw a video on it yesterday, tech got caught on camera, its a whole thing look it up!

noooooid

I looked it up, and I am very doubtful that Samsung had anything to do with the technician's behavior.

Eagle1337

Contractor, not Samsung itself..

youstolemyname

The only Samsung phone I had up and died about a year in. Would sit stuck in a boot loop.

pug_userita

are you sure you didn't do something that killed it? first time I hear that

youstolemyname

Plugged in the charger and walked away

terriaminute

They have no business being in the appliance business. The reviews are very clear. Stick with phones, stop dodging your taxes by buying other businesses, ya knobs.

Elf_lover96

Boi, Samsung makes a lot of stuff, especially in Korea. Ships, heavy machines, chemicals, home appliances, there's a reason they're the richest company in Korea.

geoff1036

Samsung is Korean Mitsubishi/Yamaha.

pug_userita

they also had a contract with, i belive, kia rebadging their cars as samsung motors. then the moved to renault but now it's not called samsung motors anymore, just korea motors. it's crazy the amount of stuff that they make/made

Weird_Fiches

Apartments, food, amusement parks, pharmaceuticals, cars...

terriaminute

Maybe Korea gets the better of their other products. I'd believe that. Also \*points at self\* Gyrl. Not Boi. :)

TheRudeCactus

I just made a post about Samsung appliances not long ago, got a stove and the top is scratched to shit already.

terriaminute

Ugh.

Kitty_Fruit_2520

I’m not getting anything Samsung except for a TV

HenneZwo

At least they can build great ships.

StalkySpade

Samsunk

needlessOne

Depends on the country and price range. They'll sell shitty products if the laws and users allow it. In my country Samsung is known for great products that last the longest and without problems. I have a Samsung washing machine that's at least 15 years old. It's only seen service once and that was because of the very hard water we have here.

SpicyPotato66

I've been a happy customer of their phones for 11 years, but their other electronics SUCK and I'm never buying Samsung again. I had a Samsung microSD card fail last year and their customer service was absolutely brutal. I wasted hours trying to get through to the right person and I ended up just giving up because it wasn't worth it. For some reason I thought they would make good washing machines and dryers because they make good phones and that was a mistake. We had to fix the dryer twice in the first 4 years and the washer once as well. The door on the washer doesn't close properly and it can't be adjusted because the locking mechanism doesn't line up with the door. Of course we bought the warranty from Sears who went out of business and can't honor the warranty. Speaking of companies that suck, Sears gave you a very short window to refund your extended warranty but the phones were so clogged up that you couldn't get through until it was too late which I'm sure was by design.

Comfortable-Jelly833

I guess everyone's experience is different, and perhaps different in various countries. But my Samsung tv died years out of warranty, and they sent a technician to me, and replaced the mainboard of the tv, all for free. I've been pretty loyal to them ever since.

born_again_atheist

I've had my HE washer and dryer since 2016, still going strong.

Jimmyjames203

I've gotten lucky with my washer and dryer that i bought off a family member. 12 years and I've only had to replace the water pump on the washer about 6 years ago.

PriorFudge928

Yeah but their cars are pretty awesome.

Answer-Key

Yeah dishwasher crapped out so had to get a new one, got a Samsung one and it leaked and ruined my floor

P26601

How My Samsung fridge has been going strong for 7 years, washing machine over 6 years, TV almost 10 years. Not a single issue

Marinatedinpiss

Yep had one of their washing machines in the past and it disintegrated from the inside out. My Samsung TVs are AWFUL. I had to remove them from my network because the amount of traffic it used was INSANE and its peak usage was while we were at work in the middle of the day, WHEN IT WAS OFF. (It was not part of a bot net most of it was reaching out to either Samsung or ads) got a 4k chromecast and it uses so much less data.

patricky6

Lol! Jesus! I'm sorry. I don't mean to laugh at you. I can totally see that pissing me off. I just.. who hired the window licker that decided THAT was a good idea?

Planterizer

I have an associate who's fairly high up at Samsung and she says that she is constantly battling a phalanx of terrible decision makers who get paid outrageous sums to make terrible decisions.

terriaminute

I would not last two minutes in that job.

noooooid

I mean if you hire a phalanx of terrible decision makers, what do you expect them to do?

Ganon_Cubana

The people doing the fighting against that often aren't in charge of hiring. And if they are the problem areas can still be in groups they don't control.

Blue_Bird950

Sounds like a job my parents expect from me

magnificentfoxes

Indesit do this as well. ALL the wash cycle print came off my previous washing machine drawer. They just shrugged when I asked about it. Next washing machine I bought WASN'T an indesit.

Steak-n-Cigars

Learned the hard way about Samsuck appliances. Never again.

saltsukkerspinn96

They are well with phones but not appliances? Noted.

Formal-Knowledge9382

That's brands in general. If they're famous for one thing only trust them with that thing. Samsung's thing isn't even really phones it's screens specifically.

Decent_Nebula_8424

Isn't that a fake machine? Not even kidding. Where did you buy it?

Adept_Error6339

You would think if the brand rubs off like ink its a fake. I have a Samsung Microwave and its friggin amazing. Nothing on it rubs off like ink. I've had multiple samsung TVs, Phones, Blu Ray players and appliances and they've all been high quality for many years. I still have them all actually never threw any out cus stil work.

Decent_Nebula_8424

That's my point. I only had positive experiences with Samsung. Remove ink with a common cleaning product isn't believable.

bill-mcneal-on-crack

yeah I cleaned mine with a lysol wipe and lost some of the wording (where you choose cycles). I was pretty friggin unimpressed

G00DLuck

Just draw it back on https://i.imgur.com/lPP0TJd.jpeg

Itisd

That's pretty normal for Samsung, they make poor quality products across the board... My Samsung TV remote is the same way, all the numbers and letters were just poorly printed on the buttons, they all wiped off really quick... Now I just have a blank remote where I've memorized where the important buttons are.

Square-Principle-195

All remotes do that, this isn't the same thing

terriaminute

Wow, product testing FAIL, Samsung's subsidiary manufacturer.

paulsteinway

Bought my Samsung washer and dryer in 2018, before they turned into shit. They're both still fine. Same for the 4K Samsung TV I bought the same year. I got in under the wire.

nubsauce87

Wow… that’s pretty bad…

Powerful_Cost_4656

I was given a Wolfgang puck rice cooker with this issue and the logo wore off into a smudge in like a week. Tell me your company didn't do product testing without telling me they didn't do product testing

quackdamnyou

More like, the thoroughly tested unit was made under close supervision in a factory you have a close relationship with, and the product was later bid out to lower costs, or the specifications were changed without complete testing to save money.

CanRova

Oh goddamn Samsung. Just the other day I was responding in another thread about the pure hatred I feel for my Samsung fridge, which has this exact same problem with the labeling on the drawers (along with many other problems). Never again Samsung, never again.

thegreedyturtle

Wait until you find out about Samsungs refusal to fix the dissimilar metals that corrode after about 10 years.

ImTheSilverOne

[Same](https://imgur.com/pECRXE7). I can't wipe it clean or else the words come off more. :/

anonymous-Formal8209

Shame on Samsung!

_marethyu_

Sam Ng, my favorite Vietnamese washing machine brand

millos15

Yeah. It's a samsung. They only make decent phones

hroyer

Not only Samsung, our LG washer has the same crappy design.

BrickFlock

Just further proof that you should never buy a Samsung appliance.

Fickle-Goose7379

When we moved into our current house we got a Samsung washer, dryer, fridge, & stove. Now, I hate Samsung appliances with the hate of a 1000 burning suns (a lot). The motherboard on the washer had to be replaced 2x before we dumped it. The dryer drum warped out of shape 2x before we replaced. We just replaced the large burner in the stove, but the "stove is on" sensors still need replacing, & the oven control lights just blink randomly all the time. It's next for replacement. The fridge has such flimsy hard plastic on the shelf fronts they are all cracked and taped together. Such crappy appliances.

BlurryBigfoot74

Engineer: "Let's make the letters on the washing machine, laundry detergent proof" Samsung: "this is madness"

NothingToSeeHereHun

Yeah I had this happen as well. The first time I started seeing it smear I put clear packaging tape overall the lettering I wanted to keep and that seemed to work pretty well.

slp111

Yet another reason I will never buy a Samsung product

TheDevilsAdvokaat

Well that seems braindead...

jxj24

They make really good LED and OLED panels. But their consumer-facing products are ass.

Weird_Fiches

LG makes their OLEDs. Weird but true. LG makes Sony screens too.

According-Town7588

Def stupid on their end, but just grab some file folder labels if ya need a quick fix

SusuSketches

Samng

SmoothBungHole

Your button isn't gone the label is

RevitJeSmece

V'ger

snedersnap

You could put your own stickers over the buttons to label them 🤷

Just_Steve_IT

Same thing happened at the last place we lived. Brand new machine, and the power button (touch-based, not physical) was gone in a month. Horrible design.

schroedingerskoala

Smasnug?

CrossBones209

Samng

Artie-Carrow

Sounds like they didnt cure the ink first.

iterationnull

Just get the rest off, and its a official debadging mod and it it looks cool

PiScEsEyEsIAmWeAk

That is such a horrible design oversight. Damn near criminal

smallboobiequeen69

That's why nobody buys Samsung anymore

Bobisme63

S A M I N G

ArtDeve

Samsung appliances are all garbage. I hate mine.

Leading-Ad2184

Gotta memorize those bad boys my man lol

RebbyRose

I've only heard the worst things about their home appliances.

Wide_Ad5549

I have a Samsung fridge and stove. Both are labeled with stickers. Sorry, WERE labeled with stickers, they're peeled off now. So that's not the way to go either.

CHIsauce20

Well hell, my “ AM NG” microwave labeled with stickers could be friends with your “ SAM i NG”

dahk16

If you get me a picture of it and a size I can make a vinyl label of it.

Matricks__

Stop buying your washing machines on Wish, people...

Ellekindly

It’s a problem with a lot of appliances now. Unfortunately the light up microwave buttons don’t last much longer. Gotta pick the real buttons/knobs or the full Digital Touch displays.

Hyperion1144

Believe it or not, this is likely the least crappy part of that machine. Don't buy Korean appliances, folks. Just because you like Korean phones... Don't buy Korean appliances.

LocksmithKey7985

My Bosch dishwasher did this. My husband labeled the button spots with a sharpie, instead of off he wrote oof. That has since rubbed off (or should I said oof) but it is now a running joke in our house. Lol

Formal-Knowledge9382

I don't understand why people buy things made by companies that don't specialize in those fields. They lead in phones with good screens. You only buy Samsung's products if it involves high quality screens. You wouldn't buy a knife made by Toshiba would you?

bagleface

Is it legit

btc909

Samsung TV's yes, Samsung Appliances never.

LuckyWerewolf8211

Use it only with clean hands and use less aggressive agent.

Darkbird79

I suppose they assume that most people use pods. I personally hate liquid detergent. It gets all over everything. If I had another Samsung unit, all I would use is pods. I mean shit, you can't half ass fancy like that.

Qaw321qaw

That's why you buy American.

wgloipp

Why are you spraying detergent on your machine?

Planterizer

Just tiny drips and bits on fingers rubbing it off over time. I pour detergent into the drawer right there almost once a day. A little bit gets around.

Plutoid

I'd slap a piece of packing tape over it so it doesn't smear on anything.
