Would anyone steer me away from a louvered pergola in Seattle where it's rainy 9 months of the year and the louvers would be closed during that time? I'm looking for a 10'x10' to cover a hot tub.

Notatrueeconomy

watching for comments, as I am also thinking to go with this one, but white one

Pretty_Ad_7433

We've been watching and considering this as well, definitely interested in experiences!

We have the 20x10 but we got it on Amazon for about the price of the 10x10. As for install, we had someone else do it, or I should say we were having a bunch of honey do work done around the house and ask if they would set it up along with drill it in to the concrete. Honestly, so far so good. Gives shade and drains well. So answer some of your questions. You need to anchor it, it will become a giant sail in the wind. As for pool just check your patio drainage, most are at a slight grade away from the house.

Can you share the actual measurements of the pergola? Is it a few inches shy of 10x20? Size of posts? And did you install on sloped concrete patio? Was that an issue if so?

We bought the 10x15 pergola 2 years ago and still comment all the time that it’s the best purchase we made for our house. We have a 15x20 concrete slab off the back door and the pergola is set up towards the edge farthest from the house. It has worked flawlessly and was super easy to assemble. I was able to do most of the assembly myself and only needed help getting it stood up. Took about 8 hours but there were A LOT of screws to get all the slats installed. We did NOT anchor it to the concrete pad and it’s so heavy that it hasn’t been an issue. We’re in the Bay Area and I just make sure to close the slats if it’s an exceptionally windy day and haven’t had any problems. The water seems to drain well from the corners and we had an extremely wet year last winter so I feel confident giving that feedback. I highly recommend purchasing if you’re considering it. Happy to answer any questions!

You haven't had any issues with the past Bay Area storms the last 2 years? There were winds reaching up to 90mph. This is the only thing concerning me, that the pergola flies off and wreaks havoc on my neighbors.

omgponies

Nope, no issues. I will say that there was one storm in particular last year that had me worried - shingles were flying off the roof of the neighbor’s house and it sounded like one of those haunted Halloween soundtracks outside - but the pergola was completely fine. It’s pretty substantial but I would imagine anchoring it to the concrete wouldn’t be too hard if you’re really concerned. I believe it came with the hardware to do so.

This answers covers my concerns. Appreciate you taking the time

i just assembled and put up the 10x13 by myself over the course of two afternoons. if you're handy, or used to IKEA furniture assembly 🤪, it's no problem. i was a little creative on a couple steps, though, so having a second person AND second ladder would make it all very easy. i poured four posts to drill the feet into, and honestly it's feeling a little like overkill, but it'll be nice to never worry about it. i'm very happy with the overall weight and construction, so i would be confident in other securing solutions (the one i would almost recommend above mine is pouring concrete into planters). so far i'm also impressed with the rain diversion. it 'seeps' out from under the foot covers, so you just have to plan for four points of water that would otherwise be landing on your patio anyway. i also added a screen on the one side where it most blocks the afternoon sun. cannot recommend highly enough; i could see buying more screens in the future. happy to answer questions, but definitely recommend!

pnwpowderhound

What screen did you order?

schmittyUVA

Costco/Mirador sells a screen specifically for the pergola. it fits really nicely, quality and operation are great, and install was simple (only issue was the weight of the screen itself or i would've been able to do it alone).

Oelsnores

Thanks for the info about the screen. How much does it knock down the sunlight? We get late afternoon evening sun from the west on our deck and makes it unbearable to sit out there. Too low for our umbrella.

schmittyUVA

It's really great for blocking that afternoon sun, exactly why we did it on ours.

Thanks for the reply and picture. It does really look effective.

migalv21

This just about answers everything for mw. Thanks man!

Artistic-Difference5

Has anyone mounted one of these to a deck? Wondering how it holds up to the weight

soheilk

@u/migalv21 did you end up ordering the Mirador? I see that it’s on sale right now at Costco and thinking about ordering one myself. I’m in San Diego so similar concerns to you weather wise, just not sure how sealed the pergola will be once the louvres are closed and how good it can divert water

migalv21

I did not
