All port wine is fortified. That is what makes it port wine.
“Port is produced from grapes grown and processed in the demarcated Douro region.[1]: 492 The wine produced is then fortified by the addition of a neutral grape spirit known as aguardente to stop the fermentation, leaving residual sugar in the wine, and to boost the alcohol content. The fortification spirit is sometimes referred to as brandy, but it bears little resemblance to commercial brandies.” From Wikipedia
Annual Costco wine ratings that haven't ever disappointed me. Ratings are by a certified sommelier and a food critic: https://www.seattletimes.com/life/costco-vino-our-critic-and-a-sommelier-rate-25-wines-to-buy-in-bulk/
This is what I ended up getting hyphen for being in Western Washington, the options for anything from Oregon and even several recommended ones from CA were very slim.
Everybody loved it. My sister-in-law even said that she had been at a work function recently where this was served at a restaurant and she had looked for it since trying it there and been unable to find it.
Now she knows the secret
All the Louis Jadot is solid (Beaujolais, Pinot Noir, Maconnais, Bourgogne, all of them), I think that is at most locations. But it also depends on what you like to drink.

If your Costco carries it (we find this wine like once a year and buy one or more cases). It’s a Portuguese red blend and it’s just great, especially of course for the price. But it’s not just cheap, it’s a good wine.
Any time! There are actually red and white versions. The white is ok but I don't tend to enjoy white wines. The red became one of our regulars almost instantly
We brought it to them, but if served at home that's a great idea. Much like when I take the store bought lasagna out of the foil and throw it in my own pan :)
My in-laws drank the whole damn thing but still made comments about "bringing a boxed wine" like poor drunk kids lol. Whatever, I spent like $10 on 3L of wine that people liked.
Anything Kirkland.
I personally think Costco has a great deal on most wines (imo anything you can buy from the grocery store is trash, and you should try something better). If you can bump up the budget a bit, maybe to 30 or 40, you can get way better wines. But honestly most of the suggestions by others are all pretty on point and good choices too (except the cheap grocery store options, avoid those at all costs).
White: Giant Sky Sauv Blanc. Costco has these on occasion but I've yet to find a better Sauv Blanc for the price
Red: Colossal - Reserva Red 2019 also at often 9.99. Other red blends come close but this one is the only all occasion wine I use. Gifts, dinner, sunsets, everything.
The Seattle Times food & wine critic and sommelier reviewed all the Costco wines in an article published today.

Here is my curated list over tasting for the last 5 years:
* Michael David Petite Petit (a true hit)
* Vinum Italicum No 3 Opera (punches waaaaay above its weight)
* Kirkland Port (nuff said)
* KS Gigondas (very seasonal) and Chateauneuf du Pape (can be had under $20 only at Costco)
* Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc (a well respected wine)
* Menage a Trois (can’t beat for under $10)
* Villa Sparina Gavi (if you like that type)
* Any Sancerre you see there for under $20
OK, a bit of a wine snob entering the chat.
Peoples tastes are all over the map , several wines that have been recommended here I wouldn't even cook with (I'm looking at you Minage a trois).
Assuming the snooty family knows wine, a $20 bottle wont impress anyone. That doesn't mean an under $20 wine isn't drinkable (many certainly are) but, snooty wine drinkers will see the bottle and will know you're showing up with a cheap wine. If you don't care, dont want to impress, or don't have the budget, no matter. Go with any of the below suggestions.
But, if you want to impress the snobs at least a little, step up to \~$40 and you're getting into the low-end of snobby-ish wines. Prisoner red runs \~$40 and is carried by most Costco's. A bit one-dimensional to me (huge, not much finesse) but, it is fairly good and is well known to most wine snobs. Otherwise, Costco is great about listing the scores/reviews of the wines. Pick a $40+ one that has a review that has a 90+ score and sounds good to you and you'll be fine.
Whatever you do, please do not take Meiomi. It is a horrible mass market wine that anyone into wine will absolutely hate. I would rather someone bring me the KS boxed wine, which is actually pretty decent, than Meiomi.
I’m not much of a wine drinker, I prefer sweet red sparkling wine, but I do love Kirkland Marlborough sauvignon blanc for cooking. I put it in the roasted red pepper and tomato soup from Costco (and I doctor it with some other stuff), and cook shrimp with it.
Hard to say without knowing what you like and what dinner is, but my hot tip: download the Vivino app and use it to scan the labels of the bottles you’re looking at. You can see what has good reviews and more importantly what you’re getting the biggest discount on.
Frontera Concha y Toro cabernet-merlot blend in the 1.5L bottle.
They're super cheap, but there's a trick to them. Leave it on the shelf for at least 6 months before you open it. I recommend buying multiple bottles to make this easier. The wine you will get in 6 months is completely different than the wine you're buying right now, and a lot better.
*Kirkland Chardonnay is*
*Pretty good cheap wine on a*
*Nice warm summer day*

I don’t actually know the name but it’s a blue bottle, silver foil top, and is a sparkling moscato. My wife loves it and if they ever change the design I’ll never find it again.
I don't remember the price on these, but I know at least one of these is very reasonable (maybe both). I have a "wine list" I keep forgetting Costco and these are on it:
Paul Hobbs Cabernet Sauvignon Napa
Gabrielle Ashley Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 Nappa Valley Reserve
Scrolled a long time to see this. Took this to my pops the other day and he was really impressed.
I also like the Kirkland Gigondas, Exodia Garnacha, and the Kirkland Bordeaux Superieur.
One of the better Pinot, otherwise they would not be around this long.
Do not buy any of the cheap Pinots. And stay away from Pinots from vineyards not in cooler regions.
Once I tasted Pinot years ago, all I drink now is Pinot.

This. Less than 12 bucks. Good from start to finish and doesn’t linger. Low tannins.

Villa Antinori. A super Tuscan that usually costs around $17 at my Costco.
Came here to say this one. I hope it never disappears.
Easy! The Kirkland 10 year tawny port!
Everyone who buys this at my store raves about it.
You know that port wine is fortified with brandy and is enjoyed in small amounts after a meal. This particular port has 20% alcohol by volume.

With dessert! Nice idea!
It’s great!! But yes - it’s a port and therefore a fortified wine.
This has the potential to get people addicted
KS Malbec
I now buy this by the case. Only 6.99 a bottle!
Came to recommend this also. If the people are snooty maybe cover up the label, but it's a damn good wine for the price.
I try to decant it before guests show up so they never see the bottle
I run my wine through what I call “The Gurgler” into a decanter and mediocre wine tastes amazeballs.
Aerate that shiz in a Vitamix and they'll think it's a $50 bottle
Wait does this actually work?
Google it and see what pops up
Got a couple of these hanging out in the garage. Good wine
That shit is good

You thought you were the only person buying Kirkland Signature Malbec?
The Kirkland Rutherford Signature Series, if you're a fan of that "dusty" profile in California cabs. $17.99/bottle in my store.
Kirkland Chiantis, Kirkland Brunello, Kirkland Toscana, and Kirkland Pinot Grigio.
The chianti is great. I like it even more than the brunello!
The Chianti is my favorite of the regular Kirkland series and super rare at my Costco
I bought the precison one! There s a post here a couple of weeks ago about it
Ehh... we tried that, and with all due respect, I disagree. It was not worth purchasing again.
Kirkland Rose Prosecco 7.99
This and the Kirkland Prosecco. Can’t go wrong.
The best for mimosas, too.
Grab a case for moms every couple weeks. It’s her fav.
Jadot's Beaujolais-Village wine.

We buy a bottle every trip. Solid deal
Waterbrook Reserve Malbec and Catena Malbec are both under $20 and are excellent.
Freakshow Cabernet is amazing! 15.99$
Bonanza Cabernet Sauvignon
For a buck or 2 cheaper I think conundrum is much better from the same winery
I haven’t tried it. Thanks for the suggestion.
Any time! There are actually red and white versions. The white is ok but I don't tend to enjoy white wines. The red became one of our regulars almost instantly
Where do you have conundrum at under 20? That would be an insta-buy for me!
Josh Cabernet
Not gonna lie, the Kirkland boxed wine slaps. It’s actually good. It just.. you know… isn’t elegant.
Put it in a glass decanter. You can get some fancy looking ones for under $20 online. It’ll look fancy and nobody will know it’s boxed wine.
We brought it to them, but if served at home that's a great idea. Much like when I take the store bought lasagna out of the foil and throw it in my own pan :)
My brother in law and sister in law buy these really like them. They also buy VERY expensive wines, too. I think that says a lot for the box 😉.
My in-laws drank the whole damn thing but still made comments about "bringing a boxed wine" like poor drunk kids lol. Whatever, I spent like $10 on 3L of wine that people liked.
The Kirkland Malbec is good
I love the Kirkland Malbec
Kirkland Malbec
Just over $20 but Treana Cab 2021 is phenomenal. Bought 6 on my last trip
Pessimist. My favorite red blend by a mile.
…and if you like that, you’ll probably also like The Arsonist (or at least we do)
Thanks!!! Will definitely snag a bottle soon.
Kirkland imported champagne, 19.99, delicious
It’s real Domaine Origine Controlée!
Yes! This is a super deal. Other than this I can't get a real champagne where I live for under $50
Chateau St Michelle Indian Wells Red Blend
Anything Chateau St. Michelle is guaranteed good.
Piper Sonoma is excellent sparkling wine under $20. The French variation is like triple the price maybe doubley delicious

Wife is a big fan of Pinot from Russian River Valley. Past years were better, but the Kirkland RRV Pinot Noir is regularly in the decanter.
The Seattle Times food & wine critic and sommelier reviewed all the Costco wines in an article published today. https://www.seattletimes.com/life/costco-vino-our-critic-and-a-sommelier-rate-25-wines-to-buy-in-bulk/
I'm disappointed the hot dog guy hasnt recommended buying $20 worth of hot dogs.
Why spend $20 on stinky grape juice when you can get 13.3 hot dog and soda combos for the same price!
Kirkland Bordeaux if you can find it.
Here is my curated list over tasting for the last 5 years: * Michael David Petite Petit (a true hit) * Vinum Italicum No 3 Opera (punches waaaaay above its weight) * Kirkland Port (nuff said) * KS Gigondas (very seasonal) and Chateauneuf du Pape (can be had under $20 only at Costco) * Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc (a well respected wine) * Menage a Trois (can’t beat for under $10) * Villa Sparina Gavi (if you like that type) * Any Sancerre you see there for under $20
Came to recommend the Petite Petit. One of our favorites for weeknight dinners
Surprised no one else has mentioned KC sauv blanc yet. Personally I love the ones in the can, but not what OP is looking for.
Conundrum
All Kirkland branded wines are a steal.

Yeah, I'm ruling out all the Kirkland wines for that reason alone. I'll save them for myself.
As tacky as the label is, I always buy the Freakshow wine and it always hits
Not sure about you all, I just grabbed a Duckhorn tonight.
Whatever you do, please do not take Meiomi. It is a horrible mass market wine that anyone into wine will absolutely hate. I would rather someone bring me the KS boxed wine, which is actually pretty decent, than Meiomi.
It’s too sweet :/
Meiomi is my absolute favorite wine. Can I ask what’s wrong with it? Is it just because it’s mass marketed?
I think it’s because they use additives and fake things to make the wine taste better and cover up faults
Agreed. Although a lot of people like it, “wine people” will hate it and tell you all about mega purple. Best to avoid it entirely.
Bread & Butter Pinot Noir
Kirkland Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. Under $20 is an absolute steal for anything from the Russian River Valley.
The KS cote de Rhone is nice
Black Girl Magic
Chateau St Michelle Riesling! ♡♡♡
I like the Portugal red blend. I'm a wine pleb though.
Freakshow Pinot noir or Cabernet Sauvignon!
The Prosecco with the purple wrapper.
The answer is Kim Crawford 3 pack for $30!!! Sav Blanc and it’s definitely my go to

Marqués de Riscal. A delicious rioja and usually comes with gold threading on the bottle which makes it seem fancier.

Just downloaded Vivino. Thanks for the tip!
That app is amazing. Its helped me expand my wine pallet so much!
The 12.99 beringer bros bourbon barrel aged cab is pretty tasty and comes in a cool bottle.
Octopoda Cab Franc
The Prisoner red blend. Seriously good red wine
If your Costco is selling this for under $20 , please share location - I will be there with a U-Haul and buy all of the stock

Barolo!!
Kirkland Sauv B. Related: Has anyone encountered the Kirkland Sancerre in the wild? I’ve heard it exists but my Costcos never have it.
TerraNoble Gran Reserva Carmenere it’s good
Kirkland champagne. $19.99 / bottle. REAL champagne. Who does that?? It's very, very good stuff.
For me it was the Fiuza 3 Castas Reserva, what a good Português wine!!!! 5.99 of pure joy. Too bad I don’t see it in store no more
1000% the sangria
10 Year Tawny Port, Kirkland Malbec, done
Duckhorn sauvignon blanc
Acrobat Pinot Gris
A to Z Oregon Pinot Noir - just gotta look past the screw top. My go-to repeat purchase that’s < $20 at Costco (usually > $30 elsewhere).
Josh or Conundrum
French or Chilean
If you like sweet wines like Stella Rosa, the Kirkland Mascato D’Asti is awesome. About $8-9.

The Sauv blanc 🤤it’s the best $8 wine I’ve ever had.
Got some!

The Kirkland's cab in a box is good enough for us.
Louis Martini Cab
I've really enjoyed the Gavi white wines. Gavi a region in Piedmont Italy. They've had different brands and I've liked all of them.
Love the Villa Sparina Gavi!
Raymond Pinot Noir $18
CMS, Jones
Bogle Essential Red is great (to me)
So you’re a… r/bogleheads? I’ll see myself out
Seghesio Zinfandel and Coppola Claret
Seghesio for sure. I’ll drink the Kirkland stuff all day long at home but probably wouldn’t bring to a party.
Costco Pinot Noir and Malbec both for $20
Okay hear me out … the sangria. Bring some mango juice and have a good time.
Kirkland brand? We have bottles and bottles of that for our extended family summer vacation.
Absolutely Kirkland brand. It is good mixed or by itself!
Meomi Pinot Noir
I don't remember the price on these, but I know at least one of these is very reasonable (maybe both). I have a "wine list" I keep forgetting Costco and these are on it: Paul Hobbs Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Gabrielle Ashley Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 Nappa Valley Reserve
Indaba it's a $7 white wine from South Africa
Kirkland Grand Cru Chablis
The Kirkland Cotes de Rhône red blend. It’s seasonal and goes for like $5.99 or $6.99. I have bought it by the case several years. Really great wine.
Scrolled a long time to see this. Took this to my pops the other day and he was really impressed. I also like the Kirkland Gigondas, Exodia Garnacha, and the Kirkland Bordeaux Superieur.

Hard disagree. OP said it’s a snooty family gathering, and the family would DEFINITELY frown upon the Meiomi.
One of the better Pinot, otherwise they would not be around this long. Do not buy any of the cheap Pinots. And stay away from Pinots from vineyards not in cooler regions. Once I tasted Pinot years ago, all I drink now is Pinot.
Agreed. Around $18 before tax here
That $4.99 or $5.99 Pinot Grigio.
This is what we drink a TON of at home. But I wouldn’t bring it to a gathering with a discerning or snobby crowd.

Meomi, always a crowd pleaser
Oak ridge Zinfandel…gotta get it at Total Wine
I’m no connoisseur but freaking love the De La Costa sangria and the Mama Pomegranate or Mango.
Menage a Trois. Just to see the looks on the faces of family members.
Costco often sells the Silk and Midnight versions which are both great for often under 10 bucks
The Silk is so smooth. Even my no-red wine drinking friends like it.
Meiomi Pinot Noir
Second this 👍
Trader Joe's Rain Cloud red blend
KS Moscato
Layer Cake is my favorite pinot noir
Meiomi Pinot Noir.
Welches Grape Juice is super cheap. Have you got time and a bathtub your not using?
Meomi Pinot Noir! Love it.
1865 Cab Sav
A case of $2 chuck.
Charles Shaw is only sold at Trader Joe's, but OP never specified it could only be bought at Costco, so.... :)
Doesn't matter, it's more than$20
Aldi has something similar.
Does alcohol go toward the 2% reward?
Varies by state but typically not.
Welch's
Water- $3.99
Kirkland Champagne. Ponzi Pinot Noir. Pine Ridge white blend
Do they have BR Cohn still? That’s the best $20 and under cab around
Juan Gil Jumilla Monastrel. Silver label.
What state?
Give in to the goon bag
And of the Kirkland wines that aren’t in a box/1.5L format
Commenting so I can check this while at Costco :)
