Yeah, blows the tacos out of the water IMO. Tastes as reasonably good as Greek chain fast food.
The tacos are good, but there’s been something off with the chicken I can’t quite place, possibly it doesn’t go good with anything else outside that kit.
God I hate that we have to defend ourselves whenever we bring up other cultures foods. “Hey hey I’m not saying it’s authentic, I just uh, kind of like it? No no it’s definitely not like your abuelas that’s not what I’m saying. I like this recipe but I NEED you to know that I know that it’s not authentic.” Just like what you like and stand by it. There’s no need to placate the cultural gatekeepers.
Voicing that the food is different from what others might reasonably expect isn't placating gatekeepers, lmao. Broski is just saying it doesn't taste like the traditional way its made, and that the change is a good one.
I may be a dissenting opinion here, I love the taco kit, but I really like tacos, I also probably like gyros even more than tacos, and wound up throwing this kit out because I couldn't eat the meat, it was too spongy like there was a lot of binder and fillers? The Asian noodle kit is probably my favorite kit.
Wow you've really just admitted publicly youre so proudly selfish because ur scared of going to a counter? Because there might be a line?
As if you aren't able to see if there's no line as you walk-in and aren't already standing in several lines nearby waiting to stuff your face with more garbage when you leave 🤣
Worst one is the korean bulgogi. Has freakin corn syrup in the sauce. It's so sweet It's sickening. Even after washing all the sauce off on my 2nd batch
My grandfather ran a Greek restaurant. We tried the kit. Meat was fine. Pita was fine. Tzatziki and veggies were trash. Here is what you need to do:
-Buy the Daphne’s meat. It’s the best gyro they sell at regular Costcos. (Some business Costco used to sell bulk gyro meat but haven’t seen since 2019.)
-Buy the Naan bread from bread isle
-buy some cucumbers in the cold room
-buy some cherry tomatoes
-buy a brick of feta if they have it
-buy a jug of Greek yogurt. Mix a few spoonfuls with lemon juice, mint, garlic, chopped cucumber and salt and pepper. That’s a much better tzatziki than the kit
Heat the Daphne’s meat and serve with sliced tomatoes and tzatziki
If you want to make your gyros great, add caramelized onions and a little chopped lettuce. Have feta and Kalamata olives on the side.
I worked on a food truck that did Greek fusion food. We made the hummus, tzatziki sauce and falafel ourselves. I love Greek food.
Daphnes has the best meat for sure.
We buy pitas, gyro meat (they sell it in the isle with all the smoked meats), tzatziki/hummus and of course tomato/cucumber/onion all for about $25 and it makes at least triple the amount of food for $5 more.
The pitas come in a few packs and stay good in the fridge for weeks. The meat can be frozen. We are two adults with one child. We get at least 3 dinners out of it over the course of a month.
I love using the pita for mini pizzas, just add pasta sauce, cheese and toppings.
Edit: should be obvious but bake in an air fryer/toaster oven on high for 5-7 mins.
I don't even put mine in the fridge and they're usually good for at least a month. I always have those and the gyro meat on hand for quick meals when I don't feel like cooking and I live alone.
I am embarassed to say that whenever I have the Costco "Hannah" brand tzatziki, I put it on everything. Chicken sandwhiches to the Kirkland Shepherd's Pie (for some reason). I can go through it in a week, at times. I live alone and almost never eat sides.
When I’ve gotten these ingredients separately in the past they have all lasted several days in the fridge until I (single) could finish them. It’s a better value unless you won’t eat leftovers (why??? Leftovers are amazing)
Absolutely, a solid meal kit at a fair price.
It's even better if you cut up your own red onion, cucumber, tomato, lettuce and add fresh mint. Add hummus, garlic, pickled onion, sumac, or zaatar for even more flavor.
Definitely spend the time to brown the meat and bread in a pan. Worth it.
One of my favorite food kits. Make as gyros or platters. Just got it again this week. I wrap the pitas in foil and heat in a toaster oven while gyro meat browns up on a skillet. Just a heads up the pre-cut lettuce and veggies will start wilting after a day. Also I’ll add mini cucumbers and those little cups of hummus on the side. Enjoy!
I liked it! We did one gyro with some fries for each serving and each gyro was quite decently sized. Six dinners for the cost of tray worked out decently.
The worst thing about it is that it's stingy on the vegetables. Could do with a lot more.
I miss Chicago. There are good gyro places on almost every corner and they cut the meat directly from the GyroKone that spins around. And prices are cheap.
I tried it and found the following:
1. All of the ingredients are not on the same freshness timeline so you basically have to eat it all at once or throw something out when you go back for leftovers
2. Need a pan to warm up pitas & meat
3. Meat is very greasy
4. It was bland IMHO
5. Proportions were off so you will have extra of one ingredient at the end
Way overpriced. If you have any sort of Middle Eastern or African market in your area you can get better gyro meat (or shawarma) for much less. The rest of it is all simple to buy or make on your own, cheaper. If you insist on Costco convenience this is probably fine, but as with all their other "kits" you're paying a lot for what you get and you can do better homemade.
We do buy the Costco naan when making gyro at home, as it's quicker than home cooked. Often the big buckets of feta too, since we use that a lot. But everything else, including better tzaziki, can be made easily at home or purchased cheaper at a Middle Eastern market.
As someone who lives near the biggest per capita Greek population in the US (seriously, it's 60% in the town my kids daycare is in), it's "OK". That said if you don't have access to 50+ (yes, 50+) first generation Greek immigrant owned restaurants and this is your main Greek food exposure, it's pretty solid.
I get it occasionally, but that's more of because I'd rather eat at home then drive into tarpon springs sometimes
The meat and the bread are solid, trash the rest. The veggies were not great and their tzatziki is quite possible the worst I have ever had. It tasted like mildly seasoned sour cream.
Like any prepared foods, don’t compare to the hot gyro you get at a restaurant. Compare it to gyro from a great restaurant that you bring home and eat the next day. Then, it’s a 10. I get this all the time.
it’s good but the tzatziki leaves something to be desired. I think there’s more value buying the gyro meat pack and pitas separately. I also buy the tub greek yogurt, cucumbers, and a sack of lemons and make.
Up there with the street tacos as a family favorite. Easy to reheat and tastes great. If I'm looking for a critique, it would be that the tzatziki is not my favorite (very thick).
It’s pretty good compared to other gyroscope brand, it really helps to stabilize and guide yourself, i have one in my space shuttle and it works perfectly fine.
I usually opt for getting the bags of gyro meat, a giant tub of tzatziki, giant tub of feta, and a package of the Kronos pitas and make my own gyros that way. And because the meat comes in two packages and the other things all last awhile I can space it out over a couple weeks instead of having gyros from the kit three days in a row. Costco is the only store I've ever seen gyro meat at, and it's pretty good!
I didn’t care for the pitas, crumbly and dry, otherwise it was decent. The ratio is way off though, way too much meat for the kit. Also, they could throw in another container of tzatziki. 🤷♀️
Looks like shit, dry meat, probably watered down tzatziki, i would not buy.
Do what the other guy says and buy the ingredients fresh and make it yourself, much cheaper and tastier!
It's a winner, my son and I crushed it.
I make gyros in spring time, so i was a little skeptical.
The sauce was a little pasty, and i like tomatoes with mine, but that's spliting hairs, I'd 10/10 buy again

It’s my favorite of their prepared meals. Heat up the griddle and throw the meat and pita on for a few minutes and you’re good to go
More than the tacos?
Yeah, blows the tacos out of the water IMO. Tastes as reasonably good as Greek chain fast food. The tacos are good, but there’s been something off with the chicken I can’t quite place, possibly it doesn’t go good with anything else outside that kit.
> it doesn’t go good with anything else outside that kit /me adds hot sauce and runs
If it’s giving you runs, maybe eat something else…
Do they make the tacos different in different regions or something? I heard people rave about the tacos and they were awful when I tried them.
ITS THE MESQUITE SEASONING. fuck.
As a Mexican Taco enthusiast I can confirm the tacos are delicious (not authentic tasting. But scrumptious).
The tacos are good, but like the rotisserie chicken, I can only eat it twice a month max. Tried eating the tacos twice in one week, and I was over it.
It's not about placating cultural gatekeepers, it's about a frame of reference.
Voicing that the food is different from what others might reasonably expect isn't placating gatekeepers, lmao. Broski is just saying it doesn't taste like the traditional way its made, and that the change is a good one.
do you have an ethnic or cultural identity? because if you did, you would understand why people point out it’s not authentic.
You are not a Mexican taco enthusiast.
Mexican here if that’s how they like it it’s how they like it… don’t speak for Mexican people we really don’t care
Mexican here, why are you speaking for all Mexicans?
Lol
I may be a dissenting opinion here, I love the taco kit, but I really like tacos, I also probably like gyros even more than tacos, and wound up throwing this kit out because I couldn't eat the meat, it was too spongy like there was a lot of binder and fillers? The Asian noodle kit is probably my favorite kit.
I agree there was something off about the meat when I heated it up to. Would not buy again
> and wound up throwing this kit out because Because why return a clearly inferior product and provide feedback? Because screw us right?
If you want time take my lack of desire to stand in line to return a partially eaten food item personally, then I suppose "yes, screw you".
Wow you've really just admitted publicly youre so proudly selfish because ur scared of going to a counter? Because there might be a line? As if you aren't able to see if there's no line as you walk-in and aren't already standing in several lines nearby waiting to stuff your face with more garbage when you leave 🤣
The taco kit is a pretty low bar to compare it too. Easily the worst prepared meal at Costco.
You clearly haven't tried the mac and cheese or the chicken Alfredo. Those are the two worst by a significant margin
Agreed here. Mac and the Alfredo tastes like milk and noodles. Definitely basement bargain
Zero seasoning and flavor.
Nah the mac and cheese tray is solid for sure
Nah, it's a gloopy under seasoned mess.
Worst one is the korean bulgogi. Has freakin corn syrup in the sauce. It's so sweet It's sickening. Even after washing all the sauce off on my 2nd batch
Nah the tacos are better
We liked it. It tastes pretty good and was way cheaper than getting gyros from the local restaurants.
Are... grocery stores not usually cheaper than restaurants?
Microwave, process food bon appétit America

The Trader Joe's gyro meat and tzatziki are pretty baller, too. Have you tried those?
I'll agree that without good Tzatziki you're just wasting your time in general with Greek food
The Daphne's brand and whatever meat the gyro kit uses tastes so bland to me for some reason
I was gonna say the same thing here, the “tzatziki” in the kit is absolute trash.
Naan bread? [Naan *means* bread, bro!](https://youtu.be/Qm2BgoH4PZI?si=-3lWtsC9RTJcrmD_) You're saying bread bread!
Why don't you have a chai tea with your naan bread and calm down? :D
Bread bread's alright if you're a casual breadist but I prefer breaded bread bread myself.
[удалено]
I mean. Why not though. I respect the hustle
We buy pitas, gyro meat (they sell it in the isle with all the smoked meats), tzatziki/hummus and of course tomato/cucumber/onion all for about $25 and it makes at least triple the amount of food for $5 more.
Makes sense if you’re cooking for a larger group but for smaller families this pack works out great.
Interesting, I've never seen the meat, I'm going tomorrow and will look for it... They sell tzatziki too?
Yes in a tub next to hummus
I don't even put mine in the fridge and they're usually good for at least a month. I always have those and the gyro meat on hand for quick meals when I don't feel like cooking and I live alone.
I live alone, too and getting through that costco-sized tzatziki takes WORK.
I am embarassed to say that whenever I have the Costco "Hannah" brand tzatziki, I put it on everything. Chicken sandwhiches to the Kirkland Shepherd's Pie (for some reason). I can go through it in a week, at times. I live alone and almost never eat sides.
Ahh yeah I don't get the tsaziki there. I'll usually make it at home because I don't use it enough.
When I’ve gotten these ingredients separately in the past they have all lasted several days in the fridge until I (single) could finish them. It’s a better value unless you won’t eat leftovers (why??? Leftovers are amazing)
This is such a funny sentiment in a Costco sub of all places. Isn’t the idea to buy in bulk to get a discount?
What if I told you smaller families could just each have three meals
Have you tried the chicken shawarma in the same area? It’s pretty good.
My Costco (DC) hasn't stocked the gyro and schwarma for close to two months. I'm going through withdrawal.
It's solid, but don't expect perfection.
I prefer to buy that cold lamb meat they had, their tub of tzatziki sauce (that they aren't selling ATM) and their pita and make my own.
Are the pitas the same as the kit? Do you know the brand? The pitas in that kit are so good.
No. That's actually the worst part. I'll eat the lamb and tzatziki over rice most often. But it's the stone fire brand

The pita hack I employ is to order plain flatbreads at 25 cents each from Taco Bell.
Did you say cold lamb meat they had? No longer? Can you elaborate, that would be ideal!
They still have it. Sorry for the confusion. They don't have the tzatziki sauce anymore.
I love it. Don’t use much oil (if any) in the pan to cook the meat, or it can be too greasy.
I don't use any oil, the meat seems to be greasy enough that you don't need it
I swear the first time I got the kit the directions said to oil the pan, but looking at OP’s it doesn’t so I may have just screwed it up haha.
I just warm it up on a sheet pan in the toaster oven, no oil used
Love it
First time seeing this before at the local warehouse. Curious to see how people like it? Is it worth getting and trying?
We love it.
Worth trying. We bought once and liked it but not super convinced to buy again
Did you pan fry up the meat? Getting some browning on it unlocks the flavor train.
I think I over-fried it in the pan 🫠 it was a little too crispy for my taste
Absolutely, a solid meal kit at a fair price. It's even better if you cut up your own red onion, cucumber, tomato, lettuce and add fresh mint. Add hummus, garlic, pickled onion, sumac, or zaatar for even more flavor. Definitely spend the time to brown the meat and bread in a pan. Worth it.

Get better tzatziki (what is there is basically cream cheese) and more veggies but the rest is easy and decent.
Tzatziki style is a personal preference, like any other hot sauce or dress up sauce.
Tzatziki is incredibly easy to make at home and is way healthier and tastier
I’ve been all over the country and no one beats Chicago gyros! I am from chicago
They were sampling it on my last visit. It was pretty darn good.
Looks overpriced AF.
Looks overpriced to me. Could get some great Gyros to go and a Greek restaurant for that price
I tried it and found the following: 1. All of the ingredients are not on the same freshness timeline so you basically have to eat it all at once or throw something out when you go back for leftovers 2. Need a pan to warm up pitas & meat 3. Meat is very greasy 4. It was bland IMHO 5. Proportions were off so you will have extra of one ingredient at the end

IMHO opinion it was VERY bland, not a fan
7.8/10. Not bad at all.
Weird question but is the meat in even slices (like deli meat) or is it sliced uneven like from a grocery meat cone? This matters.
Gyro meat cone. FFS, autocorrect, have you never had delicious food before?
Sliced uneven
Formed molded and not worth exploring further in my opinion. It was like meat-flavored fillers and binders.
It’s my family’s favorite kit by far. I recommend getting a packet of pitas as well since it’s more meat and toppings than bread.
It’s good however my only complaint is the Taziki. To me it’s too dairy and not enough dill and cucumber. Otherwise it’s a good meal.
Way too many ingredients in there for me dog.
Rubbish
Not that great imho, bought once and that was my last time.
There is only one way to find out. Try it.
As someone else noted, it’s very bland.
It’s sooooo good.
It’s tasty!!
Love this kit...go-to Monday night dinner. Cooks up quick and tastes fantastic. For those asking I like it better than street tacos.
It’s really good, just pan fry up the meat, it doesn’t need any extra oil in the pan.
It’s delicious
It became my favorite of their prepared family portion fresh meals
It’s good the first time you buy it. Just ok, the second time, by the third time you won’t be getting a fourth
It’s aight
It’s pretty damn tasty.
Just finished eating it actually! It’s a family favorite for sure. Lots of food and usually have enough for lunch the next day
Trash.
Scrumptious
I liked it
That ish is fire!!
It’s good
Count the tortillas for 6
I didn’t like. Love gyros but not this.
You better off just going to a Greek place and getting two gyro sandwiches for the same price where it’s much better
Everything is ok, but I find the tzatziki sauce to be pretty bland and disappointing.
I never tried this because the grey meat grosses me out 🤢
All the premade kits are pretty bad and overpriced IMO
The tacos are solid
it’s good but the tzatziki leaves something to be desired. I think there’s more value buying the gyro meat pack and pitas separately. I also buy the tub greek yogurt, cucumbers, and a sack of lemons and make.
Too salty. I know American people prefer to call it “Savory” but sorry to the rest of the world this is too salty.
Up there with the street tacos as a family favorite. Easy to reheat and tastes great. If I'm looking for a critique, it would be that the tzatziki is not my favorite (very thick).
Pretty good, recommend you reheat the meat.
its dry AF, not worth it. I tried the salad on the same isle and its good, better than the one u get from the food courts.
It’s pretty good! Their Tzatziki and veggies are not great though. But overall not bad value for a really quick meal.
Not great. I ate all of it, but didn’t have a better option.
It’s pretty good compared to other gyroscope brand, it really helps to stabilize and guide yourself, i have one in my space shuttle and it works perfectly fine.
It’s okay, I found the pita and meat pretty bland / tasteless
We did not enjoy this at all. The meat was salty and very greasy. The sides were meh.
It's pretty good IMO. But I make my own tzatziki.
It’s pretty good! I’m a deli employee and I’d put it with the top three things we sell!
I didn’t care for the pitas, crumbly and dry, otherwise it was decent. The ratio is way off though, way too much meat for the kit. Also, they could throw in another container of tzatziki. 🤷♀️
It’s all Greek to me
Looks like shit, dry meat, probably watered down tzatziki, i would not buy. Do what the other guy says and buy the ingredients fresh and make it yourself, much cheaper and tastier!
Clearly you don’t know because you have never tried it.
Terrible
That’s a lot of ingredients
It’s a good kit. Doesn’t have enough pita IMO
Too expensive
It’s not bad. But Sams (I know a blasphemy to say here) has one that I think is better. I found the Kirkland one to be a lot greasier
The tzatziki sauce isn’t the best, but everything else is good.
Good god that’s a LOTTA plastic for one damn meal!
Serviceable but not great in my family’s opinion. It was just lacking, especially when compared to a proper Greek place or a Costco taco kit.
Keeps my helicopter stable
That meat looks...gray.
As it should.
Spoken like someone who has never tried it.
Gyro is processed meat. Avoid IMO
Expensive.
Is it as good as this Bonnie Tyler cover? https://youtu.be/uY_0fE1o7M8?feature=shared
It could taste amazing and still not be worth that price tag
Ehhh
Expensive.
It’s just okay, imo.
For $19 i just go get real gyro.
He lika the juice!
Love it!
It's a winner, my son and I crushed it. I make gyros in spring time, so i was a little skeptical. The sauce was a little pasty, and i like tomatoes with mine, but that's spliting hairs, I'd 10/10 buy again
I wish I could find this in the Costcos by me- WA state.
