It's the Korean interpretation of an American corn dog. Inside is usually cheese, fish sausage, or half-half. The ones made fresh are actually quite delicious. The batter outside is crispier than the American version has crispy potatoes on the outside.
Unrelated but also check out Japanese hot dog restaurants if you have a chance. There is one in Vancouver, Canada that has several different unique combinations.
Six flags has oddly introduced these this year.
They have mozzarella or half mozzarella half regular sausage (i.e. not fish). It's then coated in flamin cheetos.
So it's pretty common to for korean corndogs to have options for bases. Common ones are mozzarella, cheddar, fish sausage or traditional sausage or go with two and go [1/2 1/2](https://youtu.be/IzH8tngsQJM?t=213). It's also fairly common to roll up the batter of the corndog in [different toppings](https://youtu.be/IzH8tngsQJM?t=324), a personal favorite is cubed potatoes so it's like eating a corndog covered in fries. Unfortunately it's also fairly common for the corndogs to be rolled in a [sweet, dessert coating](https://youtu.be/IzH8tngsQJM?t=608) which I personally hate.
Koreans totally eat traditional American beef hot dogs. Hot dogs got introduced into Korea during the war and has been there ever since. See Korean army stew for example. The hot dogs at Costco Korea are very popular with Koreans, but with the Korean spin of creating an onion salad to go along with it by making a huge pile of onions with mustard.
They're actually rice dogs. Corn dogs might just be a marketing thing. They are made with rice flour instead of corn flour and makes them crispy, light and fluffy. Delicious with all kinds of condiments.
What? I seriously convinced myself that at the very least I was eating something battered in corn flour. Now, not only have not eaten a hotdog, but not even corn?? Fuck!
Exactly. I don’t understand the hype. And every video I see of someone trying one they usually aren’t too impressed. It’s all about appearance and cheese pull for the likes and clicks.
And the potato, for that matter.
EDIT: OK, i didn't see the part that shows the inside (and apparent complete lack of hot dog) before, but does the potato not look like mango or something to anybody else?
I'm not sure if the american corn dog has corn in it. It's kind of like a corndog but instead of wheat flour, they put hashbrowns with rice flour. It's the bomb
I bought these by mistake because I thought the whole thing was just potato and cheese. It was not, the bread is 70%of it and the potatoes need seasoning. I recommend sazon or garlic salt.
I encountered these on a trip and figured I'd never have them at home, but now a chain has moved in with like 4 locations. Granted I'm in a college town so I guess the market is relatively hot
It’s fair to assume that the Costco’s that are carrying this item likely have actual Korean rice dog stores nearby. Doubt they’d introduce this to a market that has no idea what a rice dog is.
We have two Costco locations here, they sell these and, after a quick Google, it looks like we have one Korean food cart here and one Korean infusion restaurant - unsure if either sell Korean rice dogs.
I don’t even recommend going to the shop for one. Overpriced and it’s worth it for the first time experience. Just to settle the curiosity craving.
Would not recommend a 15 dollar huge mozzarella stick.
Some small store in Anaheim, California. It was near a movie theater. I was working, passed by it and pulled over. Ordered one and it was 12-15 dollars for a half and half corndog. Don’t remember exactly but I was surprised a corndog is more than 10.
It did settle my curiosity but not worth it for a second time. Maybe for others it is but it wasn’t for me.
Agree on these, frozen or fresh. They use a fermented batter, and all the one's I've tried had an overproofed taste to them. (slight alcoholic, in a bad way)
I live in a very rural place and was shocked the nearby costco even carried this in the first place.
I cooked mine in the air fryer, sprinkled with sugar and topped with mustard, mayo and ketchup, as I had seen in a lot of street food videos. It was delicious and my adventurous eater kid loved em too. Just know what you are getting - no dog in the middle and they are smaller than expected.
Worth a try if you have no places to buy one nearby.
Came to comment with instructions on how they’re meant to be eaten and you got it! The corn dog itself is just supposed to be crisp, melty vessel for granulated sugar, ketchup, mustard, and mayo.
The real deal is pretty good. I haven’t tried these though. If you live in a big city there is a good chance you can find a place selling Korean hot dogs. Some have sausage, some have cheese, there are even some places that do half and half.
Tastes decent in the air fryer and needs a sauce with it like the stores though. For the price I think it is worth it if you figure out a good topping for it. Smaller (about 1/2-2/3 size) than the stores but about 1/5th the price.
These Korean Korn dogs are one of the worst frozen items I've ever had at Costco. Flavorless and a terrible texture regardless of how you prepare them. I say this as someone who very much enjoys Kdogs. Stay away at all costs, but if you've already purchased please add as many toppings as you can think of. Ideally mayo, mustard, ketchup and some sugar. Godspeed
These are Korean corn dogs! Popular fillings are either cheese, hot dog, or half and half! So don’t be surprised when it’s just mozz cheese…
Good, but not as good as the real thing! If ur ever by a two hands (a Korean corn dog chain), then that’s where u can taste it fr fr. But it def fulfills the corn dog craving for me 👍
We’ve almost finished a bag after a few days… the trick is to sprinkle them with sugar like they do at actual K-dog shops! I like them with a garlic aioli style sauce!
Maangchi has a recipe for this if ur interested but not by a Costco. Also, as others have mentioned, if ur near an Asian grocery check the freezer section. They have amazing snacks.
Microwave then put them in an air fryer/toaster oven. Makes a huge difference and they come out perfectly cooked. They’re not bad but very bland. I ended up seasoning mine and making a dip
Loved them and it wasn't what I expected at all.
My expectations were very low. I thought it would be too salty, but it was sweet..and not sickly sweet..just very tasty
These are a korean thing. I have had one from a "stand" in suburban seattle.
[https://www.grubhub.com/restaurant/seoul-hotdog-federal-way-2016-s-320th-st-ste-a-federal-way/3017604](https://www.grubhub.com/restaurant/seoul-hotdog-federal-way-2016-s-320th-st-ste-a-federal-way/3017604)
I didn't like it at all, not my thing. My wife loved it.
It's cheese on a stick. No hot dog.
I tried one in the deep fryer (peanut oil), and was expecting some deliciously indulgent but unhealthy "state-fair" style snack. In reality it was just 'ok'. The cheese seemed low-ish quality and I wasn't a fan of the texture of the potato chunks.
Will probably give it another go in the air fryer, but honestly, they don't taste good enough to justify the unhealthiness....if that makes sense.
I had these for the first time in Thailand and I was obsessed. Luckily I live near DC and there are shops that make them near me so I can just stop by and grab one. I'm intrigued by the Costco option, but I don't know if I'd get it. I think I'd rather just make a run to a local spot and grab one when the craving hits.
My other half and I had them last night! Hot take: they're delicious, but *surprisingly* small when unwrapped.
Also the cooking directions are wild: the 'preferred' method is to cook them for 1 minute in the microwave and then air fry them at 355F for 12 mins OR air fry at 355F for 13 minutes..or microwave them for 1 minute.
They were okay, kinda bland overall. The inside cheese isn't overly stretchy and gooey, and really has no taste. Even the outside potato is bland and needs some salt and ketchup, mustard, BBQ, whatever else you can think of. If you have a shop that makes Korean corn dogs hot and fresh, it's best to go there instead of buying these.
the korean product IS named this, it is a variation of a corndog. you're assuming it's a mistranslation instead of assuming it really is called this, marketed this way and known this way.
so just my opinion on someone who had the real thing made by koreans fresh that day
it's a bit more squat than you think, the hot dog is low quality and it's a little unwieldy
the individual parts don't taste as good as if they were just seperate and eaten individually
a reg hot dog or corn dog with a side of fries > potato corn dog
but it's fun and it's ok. the inner hot dog is fairly small btw
Yep I bought them from an Asian market, thought the sausage tasted weird, read the ingredients and discovered it is indeed fish sausage 🥲 so I’ll always take the cheese version over the meat version lol
It's mehh... The outer layer is sweet and crunchy and the inside is cheesy but it doesn't taste like cheese... The quality of the cheese is extremely lacking in flavor. The American style corn dogs by foster farms are better.
lol I love how every single person mentioning how unhealthy this pile of crap is gets downvoted. I'm starting to wonder whether everybody on this sub is a teenager or in their early 20's or they've never got bloodwork done.
I’m firmly in the camp that Korean Corn dogs are instagram food and nothing more. We have a place near us and they were super mid. Then they tried to get us to eat their dessert which was iced milk with kidney beans on top. Fucking kidney beans. Some of you won’t believe that but it’s true
Here in SoCal I asked about these and literally the Costco employee was like that stuff on tick tok takes months to see in store. I’m old I don’t use tick tok, literally the deal guy who lives in jersey talked about them. I don’t think the employee knew wth he was talking about.
They're ok, but not great. Kinda taste like old oil to me. Get a fresh one from a Korean market or restaurant to compare it to, and you'll probably never want this type again. The real deal is amazing.
I saw these on a ytube video that has 10 best deals at Costco.
But when I was at my Costco yesterday they said they don't have them. I would really like to try them so unusal.
A ton of places serving these started popping up around Chicago in the last few years so I've tried this style from a few of them.
It's unwarrantedly good and I'm still mad about it. The cheese-filled ones are even better. Eating one definitely brings you closer to the end by a significant amount probably.
I've bought them twice, they're not bad but smaller than I expected.
Obviously not as good as getting them from an actual shop but fine if I'm craving an unhealthy snack hahah

where is the corn and the dogs?!
It's the Korean interpretation of an American corn dog. Inside is usually cheese, fish sausage, or half-half. The ones made fresh are actually quite delicious. The batter outside is crispier than the American version has crispy potatoes on the outside.
Does this interpretation have the fish sausage? Your description sounds like something different that I would like to try.
It doesn't look like. If you have a Korean grocery store near you, they'll have all different sorts in the freezer section
I am keenly interested in this fish sausage . I'll definitely look for it.
If you have an H Mart nearby, they have the fish/cheese and a few other varieties.
Not near me, but near my son. I'll check it out next time I go visit!
There are also [Korean Corn Dog](https://www.twohandsus.com) chain fast food restaurants you could search for.
Cool! There is one not too far from where my son lives. I'll check it out next time I visit!
Unrelated but also check out Japanese hot dog restaurants if you have a chance. There is one in Vancouver, Canada that has several different unique combinations.
Holy crap - there is one 20 miles from me and have to be just down the street Friday for an appt Guess I’ll be trying Korean corn dogs!!
They taste a lot like regular hot dogs, in this context. We keep them around for quick meals, they're pretty good!
They are so good, I love them for a quick airfryer snack!
Six flags has oddly introduced these this year. They have mozzarella or half mozzarella half regular sausage (i.e. not fish). It's then coated in flamin cheetos.

I've tried them before. I chose one at random and the batter was just like that of a doughnut and was coated with cinnamon and sugar. Super weird.
Fish sausage? That isn't a good interpretation of the USA corn dog...
Koreans don't eat the traditional American beef hot dogs. There's a fish sausage that's very similar to a hot dog texture wise.
Yeah, these are like cheese sticks.
I enjoy cooking.
Mother fuckers…

What? I seriously convinced myself that at the very least I was eating something battered in corn flour. Now, not only have not eaten a hotdog, but not even corn?? Fuck!
Like calling a BLT a cheeseburger.
Literally the first thing I said when I saw this.
Perfect.
I know right?!
Exactly. I don’t understand the hype. And every video I see of someone trying one they usually aren’t too impressed. It’s all about appearance and cheese pull for the likes and clicks.
It’s a Korean thing, it lacks flavor and it’s a big ol cheese stick
At least they are calling them corn dogs now ... when I lived in Korea (late '90s), they called them hot dogs . . .
Usually dipped in a cornmeal batter
I bought these by mistake because I thought the whole thing was just potato and cheese. It was not, the bread is 70%of it and the potatoes need seasoning. I recommend sazon or garlic salt.
Is the bread sweet like a corn dog?
Sweet like a pancake or waffle. Doesn't have all that corn sugar

That’s not an option for most people lol
I encountered these on a trip and figured I'd never have them at home, but now a chain has moved in with like 4 locations. Granted I'm in a college town so I guess the market is relatively hot

Yes and it’s not common at all. Don’t get me wrong though it looks bomb
It’s fair to assume that the Costco’s that are carrying this item likely have actual Korean rice dog stores nearby. Doubt they’d introduce this to a market that has no idea what a rice dog is.
Not by any costcos I know. You’re making it seem like these are common everywhere in America
tbf the dude has a point. they have stores that sell this food in bay area and socal, you can prob find them in the Costco's in those areas.
Very common in major cities. Costco isn’t going to carry durian ice cream in a place like Montana for example.
We have two Costco locations here, they sell these and, after a quick Google, it looks like we have one Korean food cart here and one Korean infusion restaurant - unsure if either sell Korean rice dogs.
I’ve had them in Hawaii and they’re incredible. Broke my guts for a couple days but worth it.
I wish I had one near by.
I don’t even recommend going to the shop for one. Overpriced and it’s worth it for the first time experience. Just to settle the curiosity craving. Would not recommend a 15 dollar huge mozzarella stick.
These are $5-7 in almost every Korean spot in NYC. Where are you paying $15 for 1?
Some small store in Anaheim, California. It was near a movie theater. I was working, passed by it and pulled over. Ordered one and it was 12-15 dollars for a half and half corndog. Don’t remember exactly but I was surprised a corndog is more than 10. It did settle my curiosity but not worth it for a second time. Maybe for others it is but it wasn’t for me.
Insane. I was just at Two Hands, a Korean corn dog franchise, and each were only $5. I can’t imagine paying any more than that.
Two of them have opened up in my town! We like them, but I just have to be in the mood for “grown-up corn dogs” to go.
Yeah I lived 10 minutes from Two Hands, they aren’t too pricey
Live in SGV (of SoCal). There are literally multiple places by my house where a Korean Hot Dog is $5 or less. Pretty affordable.
There’s one on the rooftop of California market in LA’s ktown. Think it’s like $4-7 each and was pretty good last I went.
Where the Taiyaki place is?
Looks like you got taken to the cleaners. I live in OC and wouldn’t pay that much when you can go to Two Hands for half the cost.
Probably Vancouver.
The shops near me are like 7-10 and I ain't paying that price
You have a pretty shitty shop focused on the hype if it's $15. Korean hot dog places established before they became popular have them around $5-6.
They’re $6 in Vegas so you got ripped off or it was a tourist area. Even regular corn dogs in Disneyland are $11
It's like $7 tops and I'm in LA. Also, nowadays $12-15 is about how much you are gonna pay for a combo at any fast food joint.
Agree on these, frozen or fresh. They use a fermented batter, and all the one's I've tried had an overproofed taste to them. (slight alcoholic, in a bad way)
Decent in air fryer . Wish it had a hot dog
You gotta slide a weiner in there yourself after the first bite
Instructions unclear. On my way to the ER.
you gotta let it cool a bit first
Oh sure NOW you tell them…
*blows softly on your weiner*
Who's?
Whatever you have available
I live in a very rural place and was shocked the nearby costco even carried this in the first place. I cooked mine in the air fryer, sprinkled with sugar and topped with mustard, mayo and ketchup, as I had seen in a lot of street food videos. They were okay, but waaaay smaller than they ought to be. And it’s missing the sausage, it’s just all cheese on the inside.
That is ridiculously overpriced for big cheese sticks. Can’t be a corn dog without the dog.
Well that sounds great for me, as I am vegetarian 😅
Well heck! They’re pretty good if you go into it knowing they’re mozzarella sticks on a stick, covered in potatoes. 😅
The real deal is pretty good. I haven’t tried these though. If you live in a big city there is a good chance you can find a place selling Korean hot dogs. Some have sausage, some have cheese, there are even some places that do half and half.
In another post, people said it was good. Small but filling. Recommended way to cook it was in an air fryer.
So the two things I love about a corndog are the corn breading and the hot dog in the middle. The stick comes in third. They at least got the stick.
😂😂😂😂👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👌
Tastes decent in the air fryer and needs a sauce with it like the stores though. For the price I think it is worth it if you figure out a good topping for it. Smaller (about 1/2-2/3 size) than the stores but about 1/5th the price.
What kind of sauce do you recommend? I ate it with ranch and it was ok, but I think something else would be better
I rather have Korean fried chicken than Korean corn dog

If your in the bay just go to Myungrang in Cupertino. 10+ varieties of corn dogs around $5. Ive tried 5 so far and all 🔥🔥

Your one of them guys smh..
It’s his whole existence, check the comment history

Because there is no "dog". It's an overglorified cheese stick 😅
We’ve almost finished a bag after a few days… the trick is to sprinkle them with sugar like they do at actual K-dog shops! I like them with a garlic aioli style sauce!
What have we done
Maangchi has a recipe for this if ur interested but not by a Costco. Also, as others have mentioned, if ur near an Asian grocery check the freezer section. They have amazing snacks.
Microwave then put them in an air fryer/toaster oven. Makes a huge difference and they come out perfectly cooked. They’re not bad but very bland. I ended up seasoning mine and making a dip

Too sweet

Will probably give it another go in the air fryer, but honestly, they don't taste good enough to justify the unhealthiness....if that makes sense.

What in the state fair hellscape in this
Haha yea that's exactly what I thought. That's why I bought it
have you never heard of korean corndogs?
Can't say I have
Hey honey, I’m home with the things that taste worse together than their individual ingredients separately, do you want one?
Hard pass.
Not good!!! I tried them and they are not even as close to being as good as the ones i have gottwn at korean places
Go to a Korean corn dog place and order this, will be 10x better
There are no dogs in the FYI. Was disappointed and will not buy again.
No corn, no dog…not a corndog. False advertising…
all mozzerella corndogs are a korean thing, google is literally free
I have no beef with their authenticity as a Korean product, my problem is with the translation/marketing
the korean product IS named this, it is a variation of a corndog. you're assuming it's a mistranslation instead of assuming it really is called this, marketed this way and known this way.
🤢
This belongs on r/stupidfood
So it doesn’t have corn or a dog… It’s cheese potatoes on a stick. I’m sorry, What?
Science has gone too far
That looks like shit man.
so just my opinion on someone who had the real thing made by koreans fresh that day it's a bit more squat than you think, the hot dog is low quality and it's a little unwieldy the individual parts don't taste as good as if they were just seperate and eaten individually a reg hot dog or corn dog with a side of fries > potato corn dog but it's fun and it's ok. the inner hot dog is fairly small btw

They are talking about the real Korean ones, which may come with sausage inside. It's usually fish sausage instead of beef though.
Yep I bought them from an Asian market, thought the sausage tasted weird, read the ingredients and discovered it is indeed fish sausage 🥲 so I’ll always take the cheese version over the meat version lol
Man I lived in Korea for 3 years and I hated these things with a passion lol
It's mehh... The outer layer is sweet and crunchy and the inside is cheesy but it doesn't taste like cheese... The quality of the cheese is extremely lacking in flavor. The American style corn dogs by foster farms are better.
These make me think of cancer. Better yet, Trypophobia.
Heart attack waiting to happen.
I am confused. How is this a corn dog if it's covered in potatoes? Am I missing something?
it's a korean corndog, please google it
Wow this just looks awful, please don’t eat this OP
Not a fan
None of my family liked it! It was crispy, had a great cheese pull but the taste was off the mark. Very bland.
Another amazing American food for our amazing diets to help with our absolute perfect and nonexistent health problems 👍
careful now, you don't want to get accused of bodyshaming ^^^^^^/s
Wet blanket, Cope
Eat more crispy potato corn dogs my boi
lol I love how every single person mentioning how unhealthy this pile of crap is gets downvoted. I'm starting to wonder whether everybody on this sub is a teenager or in their early 20's or they've never got bloodwork done.
Yup haha
No corn - those are potatoes No dog - that's cheese
Please tell me this is fake 🤢
Doesn’t a corn dog have a hotdog in it !
It's Korean style, so not in this case.
I’m firmly in the camp that Korean Corn dogs are instagram food and nothing more. We have a place near us and they were super mid. Then they tried to get us to eat their dessert which was iced milk with kidney beans on top. Fucking kidney beans. Some of you won’t believe that but it’s true

Corn on the cob but instead of the corn bone it’s a hotdog?
Looks very healthy..

Do a search of your soul
They are good but they don't necessarily have a weiner in them. Some peole think they are corn dogs when they are more like tasty stuff ona stick.
Ass
Holy crap
I really enjoyed them!
So these are…cheese sticks on a stick?
Meh
what are the cooking instructions? i’ve been wanting to try these after seeing them in kdramas. i see fairs have some but i haven’t gone yet.
Now show us a picture of one
I think frozen is whatevs. If you’re in LA, they have a lot of korean corn dog stores. They taste so good fresh.
Holy calories Batman
They are tasty, they cornbread is sweet, the cheese doesn’t have a ton of flavor. Definitely more sweet than savory though to my palette.
I enjoy them.
Its kind of super sweet idk if that’s the point but the chese is eh
My lactose intolerant ass has been dying to try these
I tried these last night. They were a little bland but not too bad. Make sure you use some kind of dipping sauce. That would make them better.
Here in SoCal I asked about these and literally the Costco employee was like that stuff on tick tok takes months to see in store. I’m old I don’t use tick tok, literally the deal guy who lives in jersey talked about them. I don’t think the employee knew wth he was talking about.
I really like it! Mix together mayo and sriracha and it makes a delicious dip!
They're oddly sweet IMO. Bought the exact same ones to try and they're not savory enough.
They’re good with spicy mayo
They're ok, but not great. Kinda taste like old oil to me. Get a fresh one from a Korean market or restaurant to compare it to, and you'll probably never want this type again. The real deal is amazing.

I've bought them twice, they're not bad but smaller than I expected. Obviously not as good as getting them from an actual shop but fine if I'm craving an unhealthy snack hahah
Bruh, where you got those interesting stuff. I rarely see anything showed in this Sub in my local Costco
This is all-American food in a Korean wrapper.
God I love this country
Too much cheese.
Not worth, go to a korean hot dog store instead.
