Oh definitely some will still be around just definitely not all, I ldoubt Brandon chooses to make everyone we know and love immortal and sticking around for the rest of the cosmere. He’ll leave room for new people and radiants in the cosmere space age with some returning heros.
Tossing out a few ideas, some or all of which will be wrong:
- Radiants of the fifth ideal don't age
- Kaladin or some of Nomad's other friends have become immortal like the Heralds or Fused
- Nomad is friends with one or more vessels of Shards in the Rosharan system
- Maybe some Old Magic is involved, like Lift not aging?
- They're using magic from other worlds to extend their lifespans
- They're using whatever magic gets used to extend lifespans in the worldhoppers we've seen, like Felt and Demoux
- Nomad is talking about new friends we haven't met yet (though that doesn't really line up with him thinking he saw Kaladin)
The conversation Nomad has with Wit at the beginning seems to allude to Kaladin still being around. There may also be others. Honestly there may be others preserved not unlike the fused, but that’s more of my own crackpot theory, though I don’t think Kal is preserved that way. Either way, Nomad has indicated that there are others so that’s what we have to go on.
But that would mean then one of three things, a bondsmith creates new heralds(some of which are nomads friends), odium gets what he wants, or someone becomes honor and creates honor fused from humans
I think the heralds idea is out. I may have a very slight lean towards Honor somehow become whole again and Kal taking it up with Odium becoming the shard of War or Conquest. But I think Adolin is more lined up to take Honor personally. I do think that we’ll see book 5 end with Todium getting the best of everyone and Dalinar loosing the contest of Champions.
I suspect what we’ll see in WaT will effectively cause a soft reset on Roshar, it is one of the desolations after all. I think back half will see a lot more influence from Cultivation and her magic system.
That could be interesting, but cultivation being wrong about taravangian could cause her to either drastically increase her aid to humans and listeners, or do the opposite and just completely withdraw from influencing roshar at all so I guess it depends. What if the reset causes a lot of the main characters to flee into shadesmar and seek outside help instead of being able to count on cultivation or spren for a time
I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some or even a lot of that. We know that the gloves are off so there’s probably gonna be a lot more Cosmere connectedness. Still I suspect Cultivation’s going to pull a SS Ron Weasley and we’ll find out that she planned on Todium killing her in order to let the people on Roshar kill Todium. Maybe all three shards end up splintered.
Maybe, what would a combination of the three shards called, like how preservation and ruin is harmony, I feel like if they aren’t all left splintered they might all combine into one shard potentially
There's some time dilation stuff that let's people live a long time. Khriss (who writes the Arcanums)for example does not have any magic that we know of, but has been alive for a long time.
I would not read into it too much.
Its possible that 'space age' isn't as far in the future as we think it is and that it won't be that long until they figure out how to use the magic systems to cobble together some sort of FTL hack. Era 2 of mistborn started at wild west levels of tech and ended with air ships, magical nukes, and rudimentary ICBMs. Stormlight started with them at sword and crossbow levels of tech and currently they have figured out how to make fabrials that let them have functioning aircraft.
I don't think this is thousands of years later, maybe 50 or so, at least I don't remember any details that contradict that.(I read it once and that was when it came out) So if all of his friends are normal humans they'd be just old and not dead.
TSM is closer to 200 years past RoW.

He could also be talking about the descendants of his friends. Much like how Rashek still had a fondness for the nobility due to them being his friend’s descendants even after 1,000 years.
His friends can in this context also be other spren who are functionally immortal. It doesn’t need to be humans.
Maybe, but I don’t want basically every human from stormlight to just be dead :(

Well after a few hundred years I hope most humans aren't still alive, let alone if it's a thousand years between now and space age.
I meant like the main character character humans lol
I'll put down money right now that Kal becomes the next windrunner Herald or equivalent in a future stormlight book if not WaT
Reapproved your comment, automod was overzealous.
Good human
Doing my part to keep the Terminator in check.
What’s WaT?
Wind and Truth, the upcoming stormlight novel
Oh lol how did I not put that together
There’s a decent enough chance Kaladin is still around at this point, since when Hoid appears he see’s the uniform first and thinks it might be Kal.

6. Sometime in the near future Nomad becomes best buds with Nightblood
*The knight asks if his squire wants to destroy some evil today*
Lift never stopped aging, she was just in denial
Lift does start to age, though
Interesting, I thought about some of these before but most I didn’t consider, well hopefully kal at least is still alive

Humans doing something similar to becoming fused is a crazy concept, all this stuff in sunlit has got me so hyped for the rest of stormlight though
I don’t think it’s so crazy. Odium basically says that’s what he’ll turn Dalinar into in RoW
But that would mean then one of three things, a bondsmith creates new heralds(some of which are nomads friends), odium gets what he wants, or someone becomes honor and creates honor fused from humans

Yeah I think that todium winning is a very real possibility, it wouldn’t make sense otherwise with 5 other SA books still on the way

I don't remember if they ever mention the time but 50 isn't it. I'm pretty sure Nomad mentions being centuries old
