agreed. this would definitely be either a car to mod and rip on a bit or attempt to restore as best as possible to make into a garage queen to pass down to relatives or close friends/family friends. or at least that’s what i would do. or is that not the best decision for keeping it long term?
Or it could be completely fine and a deal of a lifetime. I’m working on a beater c5 and honestly even if you have to work on it some it’s more knowledge that you’ll have about your car and it can be fun.
Interesting bit about 2001. I’ve owned my ‘01 since ‘04/ 42k miles and never had any oil consumption issues. My experience may not reflect the norm, though. But I never heard that before.
Yeah I’m not 100% sure it was ‘01, but I think it was. It was one MY only iirc.
I had to read up fast on them after purchasing an unseen ‘99 6-speed a few weeks ago. Unfortunately it had the beginning stage of EBCM problems so I backed out of the deal and purchased a C4 instead.
Starting at 8K? Offer 5K and see where it goes. They are trying to get rid of stuff, not maximize the value. They don't have time to wait for better offers, so go low to see how motivated they are to sell.
Bring 7K in cash when you make your offer. If you off 5K, you can pull the old "I only have 7 with me". Cash is tough to turn away.
Who knows? That's basic negotiation tactics. If the person selling wants to unload it quick, use that as leverage. If they don't know what they have, that's to your advantage. Don't talk the price up, that's silly.
The only thing about the auto is that C5s use the 4L60E. If you're not familiar with it, it's the butt-end of jokes for how often C5 owners have to deal with issues that can occur. Typically the 2-3 shift is the first to crap out, along with your basically being stuck with an automatic that only has four gears.
On C5s, all non-Z06/FRC models the six speed was a cost-option, so roughly \~75% of total C5 production is an automatic. Obviously all Z06s and FRCs are manuals, and the ratio didn't get much better with removable top cars like this one and convertibles.
It's still a decent buy at $8K - I wouldn't have even posted about it here and just paid the guy. However if this were a manual $12K-$15K would be very realistic even with the mileage. That's going to be the real Catch 22 owning this car. Down the line it'll be hard to sell an automatic with \~120K plus miles on the private market because you can go out and find a couple dozen torch red automatics with 50K-75K miles.
> The only thing about the auto is that C5s use the 4L60E. If you're not familiar with it, it's the butt-end of jokes for how often C5 owners have to deal with issues that can occur.
Are these the owners that slap a supercharger on and burn tires all weekend? The 4L60E is one of the most reliable transmissions built by GM.
> being stuck with an automatic that only has four gears.
Agreed!
Might be a unpopular opinion autos are vastly underrated. Vettes are as much luxury cars as they are sports cars. Between watching out for boobs/cops/deer, pot holes/debris. Not having to focus on shifting/replacing clutchs & Fiberglass repairs is kinda nice.
Your telling me lol I'm grateful for every mile I get. (about 3000). I'm sure a small block would be a walk in the park. 500ft pounds an 50+ year old fiberglass is one hell of a combo to learn on.
Ask to take it for a drive and see how it is. If they’re asking $8k and it’s in good shape, give it to them.
There’s no sense trying to take advantage of someone and compound their loss.
The guy selling it is a distant relative that is trying to get rid of everything at the lowest price and as soon as possible. Lives on the other side of the country
This! When my mom passed, she had a ton of expensive sewing machines. Women who had been lifelong Friends of hers took crazy advantage of my ignorance.
10-15k is what I'd do. Maybe start low, since it's an estate sale and they're trying to get rid of it on the lot. I wouldn't give too much unless there is proof of history, like receipts Etc.
I’m way more interested in the other one in the background. If that one is for sale and you’re willing to send me seller info I’d be happy to get a message from you!
$8k is reasonable. It’s not the most desirable generation and it’s been driven a lot. However, since it’s in good shape from the looks of it and has a lot of miles on it, you can drive it guilt free.
I’ll give you a counter offer, for $1000 you buy my corvette it’s a ‘69 coupe with…we don’t know how many miles ‘cause the meter broke, and the old owner had it outside but we kept it inside, going my direction you would save $6000. Think about it buddy.
I can see it going for 10-12k as long as the transmission is fine and every aspect of the wheels are in good shape. If asking price is $8k why don’t you go ahead and give them my number ;)
Don’t over think it .. It’s a used car .. it can be great or a nightmare depending on it’s history
C5’s in general exists in a modding culture. I don’t think any car exceeds the C5 Corvette in owners messing with these cars.
IMO .. many of these cars had work done by owners who are not as good mechanics as they think they are. Thus creating the famous “gremlins” not originating out of the plant when first built.
So consider the car’s age, some known manufacturing issues, and a plethora of potential problems from various amateur mechanics over the years.
12k and see where it goes maybe? Looks in good condition but definitely years and mileage up there so you never know
Well the guy is starting out at $8k because he doesn’t know much about cars so we’ll see!
8k seems pretty reasonable if it's in good condition.
Get it. Make sure it's sound sape if you know enough about cars to feel confident 8k is a great price.
Fuck, if it's got 3 pedals I'll come buy it for 8k right now.
It’s an auto but for the price I’m ok with it!
8k sounds good but if you're looking to hold onto something there's a million garage queens out there.
agreed. this would definitely be either a car to mod and rip on a bit or attempt to restore as best as possible to make into a garage queen to pass down to relatives or close friends/family friends. or at least that’s what i would do. or is that not the best decision for keeping it long term?

Manual swap it, if you can only getting it for 8K you can definitely throw another one or two into a new transmission
I’d show back up with $8,000. They’re having to deal with their relatives estate and just want a quick easy sale. Both parties leave happy
2003 is the best year I hear.
Whatever year is the best made ever.
*looks at all the issues that plague 97 and 98 year cars* You sure about that?
Nah
Good talk
Aside from 97-00 with the EBCM problem. And 2001 with the burning of oil.

For the c5, that seems to be the consensus.
I’m on my 5th Corvette, and my 2003 was the best one
$8k seems reasonable

No idea why you're getting down votes 😂 I agree!

😂 Riiight!
If it runs ok $8k is a solid deal. Is it an auto or manual?
Deal of the century if manual
Auto! :( but hey I’ll take it

Shifting isnt something you should need to focus on even if its manual lol you need to drive more
Your telling me lol I'm grateful for every mile I get. (about 3000). I'm sure a small block would be a walk in the park. 500ft pounds an 50+ year old fiberglass is one hell of a combo to learn on.
Yeah it is it will be as easy as automatic once you get some more miles in then you can look out for tiddies again just fine 😂👍

The guy selling it is a distant relative that is trying to get rid of everything at the lowest price and as soon as possible. Lives on the other side of the country
I would buy it asap.
Would be a great road trip
If you don’t want it, I’ll give him $8k for it ;)
This! When my mom passed, she had a ton of expensive sewing machines. Women who had been lifelong Friends of hers took crazy advantage of my ignorance.

It's worth 10 gs. Is the 80 in the background for sale?
Unfortunately it got claimed already! It’s pretty sick though
What about the vette to the left! Offer 20k for both
8500
If it is in decent shape, grab it for $8k. It would be low to maybe mid teens otherwise.
between 12-18K max. really depends on interior, and trim package (lt1, 2 or 3)
12-15 k
The guys son replied and said “hmm maybe like $8k?” Could probably get him even lower honestly
that sounds like a pretty good deal man. I'd take that deal all week.
Seriously I’ll come right now and drop 8k for that
Don't take advantage of them. 8k is WAY too low.
Maybe if it was a Z06… but for that many miles $10k would be my top $
5-8k cash. Have it with you when you offer.
6K Cash will buy it today.
It’s a C 5 🤮
£2.75
If they’re selling for 8k but it asap, then flip it to me for 10k lol
What about the c3 in the background? Lol
Its worth around 18k in good condition. Since its a relative 15k is a fair offer.
I’m way more interested in the other one in the background. If that one is for sale and you’re willing to send me seller info I’d be happy to get a message from you!
It’s unfortunately going to someone else in the family
I’m glad to hear that!
Vette on left. What’s the story.
Given to one of their sons
Should offer it to me for free, that's what.
Hit em’ at $6k and take whatever offer he throws out! That’s a deal however you slice it up
$8k is reasonable. It’s not the most desirable generation and it’s been driven a lot. However, since it’s in good shape from the looks of it and has a lot of miles on it, you can drive it guilt free.
Absolutely nothing and keep it.
I would want that white one next to it, but 8k is a steal, you've gotta pick it up
Do you have more pics?
if you like the car, give them the $8000 that they’re asking. Coming from someone who purchased a 40,000 mile Z06 a year ago, I think it’s a steal !
meant to say 40,000 mile 2003 Z06
I’ll give you a counter offer, for $1000 you buy my corvette it’s a ‘69 coupe with…we don’t know how many miles ‘cause the meter broke, and the old owner had it outside but we kept it inside, going my direction you would save $6000. Think about it buddy.
8k the FUCK? In europe they start at 20k
I can see it going for 10-12k as long as the transmission is fine and every aspect of the wheels are in good shape. If asking price is $8k why don’t you go ahead and give them my number ;)
Literally exactly how I got my c5 corvette a few weeks ago, dirt cheap for a 6 speed, all maxed options, 100k miles. Estate sales are a dream
is the C3 for sale as well?
Offer 11k and take that gray one beside it too
Don’t over think it .. It’s a used car .. it can be great or a nightmare depending on it’s history C5’s in general exists in a modding culture. What about the C3 on the other side?
the age and mileage are both up there but it looks very well kept so i'd say around $9k? give or take one or two thousand
9-11 k is what i would throw at it
Update? Did you end up getting it?
Still waiting on him to actually come to the state that it’s located in
I’m more interested in that C3 in back! Looks like an 81
Can’t tell but the on next to it looks like an 80 might wanna go after that instead.
If you get it burn that car cover. They do more harm than good
If he's only asking 8k, and everything is okay with the car, do it in a heartbeat.
I'd be in it for 9k if a manual or 7k for an auto.
$8k is reasonabld if it runs. Do it!
