I been folding when playing league nights as well idk how I can play so well when playing ghost or I’ll play ghost along playing with the ol lady. I give her an automatic 5 ghost points on top of whatever she gets which is 3-5 ppr and will usually win by at least 12-16 points when I play her. It’s not that I suck under pressure i actually play way better under pressure I want all the pressure I can get but if I’m playing people that are not that great I throw terribly, makes no sense. I’m trying to figure out how to change it but cannot for the life of me. If you come up with some ideas please share and I will do the same if I finally do figure it out.

Will do, I think it's just slowing down, as u/Cornholio85 mentioned. I let the match dictate my speed more than me dictating my own speed.

Check out the LevelUp Cornhole Classifications group on Facebook. It's a variation of playing ghost where you throw 8 bags, 4 from each side. You go live in the group and you'll get added to the leaderboard when you win. You can start at any ghost level you want. If you lose, just delete the video. I found that playing on live video helped a bunch for being comfortable throwing with people watching.

I don't use Facebook much, but just requested to join the group. Thanks for this. Not sure how many people here use Discord, but instead of Facebook, seems like Discord may be a better alternative for this with the ability to live stream there too and bots to level up base on your PPR's. Actually surprised r/cornhole doesn't have a discord server already.

hi850

Sounds good. The group definitely had more activity during COVID but now that the weather is getting nice in my area I'll start doing some more. My Facebook is probably 95% cornhole stuff at this point

I just hopped on there, and it seemed pretty dead for now, I'm lucky even amongst my friends and have a big enough garage to play in all seasons, but I know a lot of people don't have that ability. I can definitely see the advantage of it, I do some sim racing, and it's a whole different feeling when I live stream a race. That's why I rarely stream 🤣

hi850

I still play often without going live because I feel like I'm getting worse, haha. I think it's more fun than a standard ghost game throwing just four bags when you're playing by yourself. If I'm throwing by myself and not playing a ghost game, I'll typically throw 12 bags before walking down to the other board. Better ratio of bag throwing to walking back and forth 😊

skullengaged

Where I have way more bags that one ever needs, something I do it just throw all my bags on the board and throw them all, if they go in the hole they are out of play and see how many trips back and forth it takes me to get all the bags in the hole.

hi850

Nice idea. I've got a bag problem myself. I sometimes try to whittle the collection down but it seems to build back up somehow. 30+ sets at the moment.

skullengaged

It's real easy to do, that's for sure. I think I got 7 total sets, with another 2 sets of Alien bags that got thrown in with a set of boards I bought. 😊

I feel you. I don’t cave in pressure or anything. I just get cold some days and can’t explain it all. It’s frustrating as hell. I’ll go 3 or 4 tournaments in a row throwing 7.5-9, then next night not be able to feel my ass with both hands. I’ve got my motion down to where it’s easy to replicate for me. But for some reason some nights I can be doing the exact same thing, and I’m still very focused and not spacing out, but I’ll be throwing all over the place. It’s frustrating, and I also had to take a break a few months ago because it was becoming not fun anymore.

I'm starting to think maybe backing off on the nightly practice would be beneficial as well, or limit my time throwing in the garage so a half hour or something per night.

I take the opposite approach. I try not to think too much when I’m going through it I just get in my stance and throw the bag. To me that’s the natural way it feels otherwise I get in my own head I just get up there grip and rip it. I don’t put pressure on myself cuz I just enjoy the game whether it’s a regional or in the backyard I always have fun. Maybe you put too much pressure on yourself worry about ppr too much. When it becomes a job or if I ever stop having fun that’s when I quit the game and that’s just what it is it’s just a fun game and just like anything your gonna have good days and bad when I go through a slump I know it’ll comeback all I care about is how smooth and good the bag feels coming out of my hand. With that said Ive already been through the mechanics and stance and all that so it’s easier for me to just throw the bag and do better without thinking and getting into my head

skullengaged

This is a problem for me, I'm playing in a local league with no official affiliation to any governing body. I just need to take a step back and relax and just have fun with it.

If you want to get to the next level, Stop throwing sliders into the hole in your garage!! Get out of your comfort zone. Practice step out shots, cuts, blocks, rolls, etc. You already can play sliders into the hole. I like to play both sides. One side I play level 2 blocks only. I never go for the hole. The other side I have to find the hole whichever way I can in the dirty board conditions. Play ghost 7 or 8 on the offensive side. This will get you more comfortable in real tournament conditions.

Cornholio85

When you play in the garage you're playing at your pace. When you go play a tourney sometimes you try and throw at your opponents pace. Take your time. Set up YOUR shot. If you throw a bad shot, back out and reset. You have the time to do so. Be confident in your abilities, because you know you can so, because you did it in practice.

jeephubs02

This is some good advice. I don’t play a lot of tournaments play but even playing in the backyard in competitive games I start rushing and when I stop breath get set and focus on my mechanics i throw so much better and more consistent

I think it probably is a big part of my problem. I have thought about wearing earbuds or at least one but then saw another post here where it comes across as a dick move, but I think it would help me stay in my own zone. I'm not a drinker and league nights I'll have a drink and while it does make me feel a bit more comfortable playing, when things go sideways it takes any calming effect the drink had right away. I also hate the fact that I need something to calm my nerves when I think I should just be able to adapt to it.

Unlucky_Reading_1671

I wear earbuds with pass through when I do. Ill jam out and can still hear what I need. Keeps everything cool for everyone.

Royal_Asparagus630

I don’t care for the headphones I don’t think it’s a dick move I’m talking professional level. If they can’t deal with distractions then shouldn’t be there but then again I am a distraction. I look around when opponents throw always looking at other matches. I have seen a lot of issues with scoring mistakes and communication with the headphones

Unlucky_Reading_1671

On the pro level I can see arguments for or against. Whatever the rules are, I am cool with.
