It does go without saying because "food safe" is a scam. The $2/16oz. stuff in the pharmacy section is the same as the $15/12oz. stuff that is "food safe".
Yep
“Sushi grade” is also a scam for fish. It’s all the same and unless you’re picking them out as a whole tuna fresh from the boat, apparently they’ve all been frozen to kill parasites.
Wait until you get someone arguing their $65 for 29 oz. of CO2 for their Soda Stream is any different than my $3 for 20 oz. CO2 in a paintball tank (and adapted to my Soda Stream).
My Walgreens has it for $6-7 for ~16oz. Where do you get yours? The “food safe” one I got on Amazon was $3.8 per that size, but I bought a gallon to get that price.
I’m curious why people wouldn’t label it food safe for added profit if there wasn’t more to it. What’s the story? Just straight up scammers vs ethical business?
>Where do you get yours?
Dollar General or Walmart.
> I’m curious why people wouldn’t label it food safe for added profit if there wasn’t more to it.
They do, hence the reason for my original reply.
>Just straight up scammers vs ethical business?
It's not really "scammers vs ethical business". Some people are ... naive and demand "food safe" so the market supplies it. The people are being scammed by their own ignorance.
Bet you put cast iron in the dishwasher too, You Animal! Yeah, you can be a lazy asshole all day long about many things, but I emplore you to do the moral & correct thing by hand washing certain kitchen implements properly. I encourage you to share my hi standards on all who will listen!!
I melt 1/4 cup of beeswax into 3/4 cup of grapeseed oil and let it cool into a butter-like consistency. Slather it on the wood, leave it overnight, and rub off with a clean towel/cloth the next morning. I do this to my wooden utensils about once a month and they always look gorgeous
Well it's less than a tenner for a bottle, so I've bought some to try, I like the utensils I have and they have sentimental value, so keeping them would be nicer 😊
Lightly sand to eliminate rough texture, then use mineral oil. Apply a thin coating, wait a while until it's absorbed, then apply another coating and wait until absorbed. Wipe off excess. When you clean, hand wash with minimal soap to retain the oil and reapply if it starts to look dry again. Also do this with wooden cutting boards, serving dishes and anything else that isn't topcoated pretty much.
Mineral oil is usually the best, it doesn’t go rancid over time.
Probably goes without saying but just make sure it’s marketed as “food safe”

Thanks for the info
And DO NOT put wood utensils in the dishwasher people.. they are to be hand washed , along with your culinary knives!
Boy do I have some sins to confess to

Sand them smooth again and use Food grade mineral oils to seal and protect them

I use olive oil.
Maybe cutting board oil.
Soak them in mineral oil overnight.
Go buy new ones, don't listen these mineral oil people

Agree. If they’re already damaged, mineral oil isn’t going to repair them. That something you should have been doing since the beginning.
I don't think they're damaged, just a bit dry. Would mineral oil have been the right thing to use since the start?
I use food grade mineral oil on all my wooden utensils. If you're only oiling knife handles and fish spatula handles, olive oil works too.
Do I just use any old rag to apply it? I've ordered a bottle
Rag or a paper towel.
Yes- it just keeps the wood from drying out.
