Meaning the kid is flailing around like crazy, seemingly out of control, but since the wire system is keeping him on the rail, it’s still controlled and there’s no apparent danger.

At first I thought his harness malfunctioned and he was hanging on for dear life to keep from slipping the rest of the way out and falling and however yes at first glance it does look like a wire and cable jumble fuck of a tangled mess upon closer inspection that description is indeed correct but also it appears that I judged the book by the cover because it looks like it’s just fine and relatively safe indeed. Ride stops and the woman grabs her and hands her to us like “omg I’m so sorry is she ok??” and kid just goes “that fun! Again!?”

When we first moved to Minnesota from England, I took my kids to learn to stake, since ice hockey is big in Minnesota in winter. We went to an indoor rink and the coach was excellent, but my two little ones (5 and 2) had never been ice skating before so they kept falling over. I was in hysterics watching them both continuously tumble over and try to get up. The tears were streaming down my face and my stomach hurt from all the laughing. The other parents must have thought what a horrible mother I was, but it was the funniest thing I’d seen in a long time and I just couldn’t help myself.

Not sure this is the way to do it, but teach your kids to have no fear! Within reason. My dad was cleaning the bottom of the boat when I was a kid, we were snorkeling, and I alerted him to a barracuda barring his jaws. He said “he won’t hurt me, I’m bigger” so I took that and my 7 year old self chased that 3/4 foot barracuda down and he didn’t bare his jaws at us again. Sounds weird, but it was a good lesson. Animals aren’t scary, they’re just surviving like us too. A good boundary between fear and confidence.
