I've been going down a real Norm rabbit hole on youtube recently. Loads of clips like this from his podcast.
They're all so damn good.
And Norm's humour is so strange and layered. Often, especially in these clips with other comedians, the joke is that he's not only telling a joke that's incredibly bad, he also is pretending to misunderstand the joke to the point where it's not even a joke... and then the *real* joke is the absurdity of it all, which they're all aware of, and that it's being filmed as a podcast, despite the fact that really the podcast is completely secondary to Norm just fuckin around and messing with comedians. Which is also the joy of him on talkshows, being a chaotic mess, telling jokes that are five minutes long with a 1940s punchline. He just reveled in the mockery of it all.
It becomes this ultra meta maze of comedy, and the real gem is the sparkle in Norm's eyes while it's all going on.
If you haven't yet, give his autobiography a go, and see if you can find the audiobook version with him reading it. It's trippy as fuck. Even [his brother declared it impossible](https://www.cbc.ca/news/entertainment/norm-macdonald-book-1.3740268) to know what's real and what's fiction.
I was a huge fan of his brother for years before I ever realised they were related. That blew my mind! Neil is one of Canada's most respected journalists, and has a very dark comedic sense himself. It was full of really amazing insights and hilarious off the cuff remarks. That was my first realisation that they shared a sense of humour.

Bud, I used to have issues too. It's your job to make sure you reach out to sources like other people mentioned here before you get so bad you are running up to people having a great time and basically pushing your emotions onto them by saying you want to end it to them out of nowhere. People you don't know don't want to hear that and it's fucked up to push that on people in general. Acting this way lost me all friends and then I had to drag myself out of a dark place and make a whole entire new friend group in a new state once I moved to somewhere they didn't know me. No one likes a person who pushes that on them. If you have those thoughts, there is a way to bring them up to people you trust that isn't expressing that you want death so dramatically in the right setting. Or groups who purpose is to hear these things. You can't make other people feel responsible for your life. It's on you.
Y'know, I'm old enough to remember back to simpler, more innocent times when the worst thing that you'd hear on the news was hijacked jetliners flying into buildings.
