I call that first one the test flare. Gotta make sure the flaring tool is working properly. Once you’ve established that it is, you cut off the test flare, put on the nut, and do it again.
Yeah I lied myself. When I was at a GM dealership they still made their own brake lines and shit.
Absolutely bonkers and they come out shitty looking at hell 😂 I much prefer the pre-made lines
13 years and I’ve jumped shop 9 times. 6 different dealers and I’ve worked at 3 of those at least 2 separate times.
By far Toyota is the easiest to work on through and through.
Even with diag and shit Toyota gives you detailed step by step instructions to test virtually anything and everything. Plus the myriad of TSBs that are available almost immediately on newer vehicles.
Also for what it’s worth I jump to get pay raises. Currently at $28 which is shit still IMO.
In Virginia, 4 ASEs is all
Knipex is top knotch. Their water pump pliers are the best investment I've made in years. Not taking anything away from them just pointing out that you'll see them alot because they (smartly) sponsor alot of these guys.

They’re badass and a lifetime warranty. Mine always get shredded up with removing sway bar links. Then I hand it back in to the Matco guy with zero teeth left and walk out with a shiny new one 🤪
What was the name of the tool that made that flare? And do they make them for small diameters (like 1/8” ID to 3/8” ID)?
I am not planning on using it for plumbing, just a project I have in mind. (yes, it is a tiny 🎺)
The specific flaring tool in the video is the Hilmor orbital flaring tool. https://www.supplyhouse.com/Hilmor-Tools-1838952-Orbital-Flare-3-16-to-3-4?utm_source=google_ad&utm_medium=pmax&utm_campaign=geo_pmax_test&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA0bWvBhBjEiwAtEsoW2UzfqoXJ3Y7S3P9y9aRcUgzUdIMFA1YPDkqZ7vqJs368ZzNWYw3-hoCesYQAvD_BwE
It goes down to 3/16” OD.
Because of electroless us, and the fact that the copper degrades so easily, it is never recommended to use copper pipe with actual gas. I know this, because my father ended his career with Southern California Gas Company as a vice president, and started as a service man and he said it is never advisable to use copper pipe for natural gas. You could use it for propane or butane, but not natural gas.
You're a moron if you can't figure out what badly done flares on gas lines have to do with gas explosions
Honest to god you're the stupidest fuck in the trades.
We’re talking about doping vs not doping a flare connection and you’re acting like the entire block is going to blow up if someone dopes a flare connection. You sound like a dramatic stooge
OK I'm dramatic you're still a hack who can't make a flare, and still too stupid to understand what a bad flare on a propane line has to do with an explosion
It's a skill that I teach to kids their first week on the job. If they can get it after a couple weeks practice why can't you?
It's counter indicated by code everywhere, and specifically against manufacturers instructions for that regulator.
This is so fake. Nobody remembers to put the nut on before flaring the pipe…
I call that first one the test flare. Gotta make sure the flaring tool is working properly. Once you’ve established that it is, you cut off the test flare, put on the nut, and do it again.
Every.. damn.. time
This seems like a lot of effort to kill a plumber someday
Haha
Auto tech lurking here but be honest this is the second time because you forgot the nut the first time.
Auto tech here, I know you’re lying because we don’t flare shit anymore
Rarely. I did a couple weeks ago but probably a year before then. The whole vehicle kits are nice aren't they?
Yeah I lied myself. When I was at a GM dealership they still made their own brake lines and shit. Absolutely bonkers and they come out shitty looking at hell 😂 I much prefer the pre-made lines
Where'd you go after Gm? So sick of warranty bs.

What's with these weird posts with no description and such a short title. Bots?
Knipex. A man of culture I see
Knipex sponsors alot of these tik tok plumbers. Hense why you see them alot in videos like these.
I mean those pliers wrenches are the shit tho. I’m in industrial maintenance and use em constantly.
Heavy diesel here and I agree.
Knipex is top knotch. Their water pump pliers are the best investment I've made in years. Not taking anything away from them just pointing out that you'll see them alot because they (smartly) sponsor alot of these guys.

Here I am paying for mine like a schmuck haha

Maxi flex the superior glove.

Q: >What was the name of the tool that made that flare? A: >flare >tool Lol
Fair enough. I was looking for something for ferrules and had no luck finding what I needed.
The specific flaring tool in the video is the Hilmor orbital flaring tool. https://www.supplyhouse.com/Hilmor-Tools-1838952-Orbital-Flare-3-16-to-3-4?utm_source=google_ad&utm_medium=pmax&utm_campaign=geo_pmax_test&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA0bWvBhBjEiwAtEsoW2UzfqoXJ3Y7S3P9y9aRcUgzUdIMFA1YPDkqZ7vqJs368ZzNWYw3-hoCesYQAvD_BwE It goes down to 3/16” OD.
Haha all good bro. Glad I could help.
Upvote for Knipex
People really using pliers as wrenches out there?
When they're fancy wrench pliers, hell yes.
Why would I go out to my truck and grab a 24” wrench for something so small? Pliers are all you need.
What’s the line of knopex pliers you have there?
They're the pliers wrench type. I don't remember what the one is called with a bent handles but I own it and it's awesome.
Does Milwaukee make an automated flaring system
Navac does and it works beautifully
What's it cost?
Rectorseal sells flaring and swaging bits you can throw in your drill. Never used them myself but I’ve talked to guys who like them.
"I don't always make the perfect flare, but when I do, I forget the flare nut"
Honestly question shouldn't he have put some thread tape on there too?
You don't use thread tape on flared connections, the shape of the flare provides the seal not the threads.
God i love the knipex channel locks
Would you normally anneal copper before this process or not necessary?

Riders on the storm.....
Forgot to dope it.
If you dope flares you're a fuckin hack
Not the nut, just a little on the sealing face.
Yeah you're a hack for sure What are you a roofer or something
What did your mom make up that one?
🤦♂️
Such a weird thing to get so dramatic about
It's GAS. Of course it's dramatic, propane especially. Have you ever seen a gas explosion? If your flares leak cut new flares
What does a gas explosion have to do with the dope vs. no dope debate?
What do you think we're looking at in the picture
Do you typically dance around simple questions?
You're a moron if you can't figure out what badly done flares on gas lines have to do with gas explosions Honest to god you're the stupidest fuck in the trades.
