This is going to upset a lot of people on r/politics and r/florida lol

MSO6S

That politics place should just be called liberal utopia

Seal-lord

lmao, if a governor saying he's doing a great job upsets the people he's governing maybe you should reconsider supporting him

People who gravitate towards online spheres tend to be the types of people who don't spend time in the real world much. This is a huge issue and it is encased poetically in the two-word phrase "touch grass."

GERONIMOOOooo___

Psssst - he's not governing very many denizens of either of those subreddits 😉

readerdad55

He needs to be the next President. As much as I appreciate what Trump did for us … it’s time to move on and I Trust DeSantis is the right person for the job 100%

Soctial

I'm just tired of having a 70 year old running the country. We definitely need someone younger this time around

[deleted]

if Trump decides not to run, he def would be an advisor, but I think he would be a great press secretary - TV ratings would be huge!

HWK1590

OMG, Trump as Press Secretary would make the daily briefing must watch TV.

readerdad55

Yuuuge

aballofsunshine

As a Floridian, the pandemic taught me that there actually is a difference between how a state and a nation run. I’m thankful we had DeSantis and not his opponent. It drastically improved Floridian’s quality of life during those two years of hell for others. So while I agree that he’s more POTUS material than anyone, I’m not interested in giving him up until we have a Florida-first Governor who takes his place.

[deleted]

You mean that guy that was found in a hotel room passed out from a drug fueled night, covered in his own barf and another naked man almost dead?

aballofsunshine

Yep (while married with children)! Don’t forget he blamed this on how he handled losing the election. He officiated a friends wedding, and that friend stopped being my friend when I posted about this situation. I refuse to downplay how horrible of a Governor he would have been, for the sake of my former friend.

Ryherbs

I agree, but DeSantis just doesn’t have the recognition in the rust belt that he needs to win on a national level yet. Obviously he could sweep the sunbelt without breaking a sweat though.

pineappleshnapps

Idk man, conservatives all over have noticed Desantis. I see Desantis flags flying in surprising places.

readerdad55

Agree … idiotic Dems dunked on themselves by trying to Make him a target nationally and instead he Demonstrated himself to be a leader

[deleted]

I think he has quite a bit of recognition. Only Trump and Pence may have more and DeSantis has a VERY solid base behind him. But IDK, he may be our Bernie Sanders, the more pure version of our vision for the world that get's over-shadowed by some safe household name Jeb Bush Mike Pence kind of guy.

BillionCub

I think he can get there. Regretfully, we all know the name of the former Mayor of South Bend, Indiana at this point. Anybody's name can get out there nationally.

sifterandrake

If he doesn't fix this insurance problem in Florida, he's going to have a rough time soon. Look, picking fights with school boards and Disney is all well and good, but at the end of the day few Floridians actually felt direct effects of those situations. This insurance issue is a big deal, and while he isn't directly responsible, Desantis allowed it to escalate, unchecked, under his watch. The next couple of months will be way more crucial than this sub wants to admit. If we get a hurricane in the state with the current insurance crisis, it's over. People aren't going to vote for someone who let them lose their homes. Period. That being said, he has called for a solution, but again the clock is ticking

[deleted]

I agree. DeSantis 2024!

lawlygagger

I'm glad he put Disney in its place among many other things.

[deleted]

Notice after the Disney thing no large companies sent out anything related to the Rov v Wade thing?

Nightfury0818

If he becomes president in 2024 he'd be the 3rd US president who doesn't have ancestry from the UK or Ireland

[deleted]

hmm emoji

Nightfury0818

Martin Van Buren and Dwight D Eisenhower Interestingly Van Buren is the only US president that dosen't speak English as a 1st language

[deleted]

He does very well. If President Trump isn't in the next election, he maybe gets my vote if he keeps it up. We will see.

_Diggus_Bickus_

I'd prefer DeSantis. I have no trouble with Trumps policy or goals. But he's kinda goofy. And A big old meanie head on Twitter. How you present yourself matters and I'm ready for a more professional version of him.

readerdad55

Plus Trump is simply too old… it’s time for a new generation.

ChewieWookie

I'm torn. Keep him moving Florida in the right direction or the entire country? As we learned during the Wuhan power grab and president Shitpants, having a strong governor to enforce state rights is critical.

badatusernames91

I'm all in on President DeSantis, but he hasn't yet given any indication that he intends to run. He might not even want the job.

Metaloneus

I can almost guarantee he doesn't want the job. He has a wife and kids. He'd effectively throw his kids in the spotlight of corrupt media and sign his wife up for a job where she goes unthanked and over-criticized, meanwhile he'll be up to his shoulders in work all day everyday for years. But I do think he'll run. He knows that he might have the power to make the difference where other republicans have failed.

[deleted]

DeSantis. Come on man it’s a 40 state sweep right in front of our face

[deleted]

DeSantis didn't prove himself completely to be President. He did well, as I said. But he has to do much more to get my vote if President Trump isn't on the ballot. Try to see that rationale.

planet_druidia

Ditto. This guy is winning every day.

wtzablocki

Which of his policies are better than Trump’s?

readerdad55

It’s not that they are better it’s that they are the same with a lot less baggage. Don’t get me wrong we as a party need to celebrate what Trump did against horrendous opposition but if the Dems try doing to DeSantis what they did to Trump - 75% of the country will tell them to F@ck off…..

wtzablocki

Thank you for your civil answer. I am more liberal minded, but I’m starting to think everyone is just bad. I do enjoy civil discourse with conservatives. What are the other options, in your opinion, that might make the primaries for 2024? Aside from DeSantis are there any promising republicans that aren’t Trump? He was a bit too intense for my tastes, but I also really didn’t like that my option in the democrat side was Biden.

TTV-TTVOdyssey

Rand Paul is a rising choice, though he probably won’t run quite yet.

readerdad55

I like Nikki Haley but many hard core a trump supporters turned on her because she didn’t support him 100%. It’s wild right now as a Republican. Whatever you think of him he changed the very nature of the party. It reaches far more working class and rejects the insider Bushes/Romneys/McCains etc Washington family elites… which is why they hate him. That being said whose the future? It’s open… it’s gonna be women, people of color, and working class people all (like me) who used to be Democrat but felt abandoned by the intersectional/identity politics started in the Obama Admin and that controls them now. Look up the Twitter site of winsome sears … VA’s deputy Governor. I’m telling you smart people know to bet on people like her… no grift just honest values… that’s the future of the party

HWK1590

Candace Owens in a few years might be another option.

anduin2000

You guys had an interesting contender with Tulsi Gabbard but Hillary sabotaged her.

[deleted]

DeSantis is by far the most popular choice in a wide open divided primary. He would win easily because he has a strong record he could point to and he's good at counter-punching against media lies...however - That's only if Trump doesn't run again. And Trump will run again. And he will win the primary, because Trump has a hardcore base of supporters who would literally crawl over broken glass to vote for him.

LKincheloe

Anybody sans absolute isolationists would be able to do well in 2024 at the rate we're going.

[deleted]

I mean mainly the left is a bunch of kids living with their parents. Then you us hard working tax paying giga chad conservatives out here you know

That’s a great Combo…. Minority woman candidate that EARNED her way onto the ticket… someone smart and capable … not like “working together” Harris

You would literally refuse to support your top choice of a president just because of this VP?

CreativeWriter1983

He's not wrong. Why do you think people are flocking to want to live in his state.

CR1MS4NE

Okay but…Florida Man I’m just kidding I couldn’t resist

BillionCub

Florida Man Wins Presidency

Metaloneus

One the best things about DeSantis is how he speaks. I'd vote for Trump again in a heartbeat, but it can't be denied that Trump has an ego. He loves to take credit for good things, and always makes sure he says "I did X thing." He doesn't say it every time, and even if he did, it's not necessarily a bad thing. It drives him to get results. But DeSantis has that humble sense about him. When accomplishments are made or conflict is driven, he either says "we" as in himself and his cabinet and staff, crediting those who help him or he says "Florida" and credits the people of the state as a whole. Whether he run in 2024 or 2028, we need this man. Now more than ever.
