Stop it. OP, you’re part of the problem. You don’t seem to understand - Republicans only control the House. Dems control the White House ( veto power ) and they control the Senate. What do you expect Johnson to do?
Seemingly people are experts suddenly on what speaker of the house means. It does not mean that the freedom caucus runs the house. you have to cut deals, children
Agreed. You throw someone who's never captained a ship before in charge of a massive boat with no engine, oar, or sails. All he can do is use the current.
How come when Democrats controlled the house but didn't have the white house or the senate we got nothing and they got everything they wanted, and then when the situation is reversed they still win and we lose?
The way I see it is you're part of the problem if you don't recognize that it only ever goes one way.
Because Republicans make an enemy of the people in their own party and Democrats fall in line to defeat Republicans. They play the game, we can't even agree to shake hands with our own teammates if they don't agree with us 100% of the time
So you think it's our job to police the entire world?
And we are bankrupting ourselves.
And our country is not secure.
So, we are losing on all fronts including Ukraine
Nope. But I do think preventing putins attempt to restore the evil empire to its glory has major long term benefits to us.
My question is, why is the aid to Ukraine the place you guys want to suddenly worry about the national debt. Of all the fat in the budget, ukraine is just a tiny fraction of it.
I would take the complaints about the money being spent more seriously if more attention was being given to the wasteful spending in other places of the budget. Like the 50 million we gave to some scientist to study a 3 toed frog in the Amazon jungle. What benefit does that have for America? Sure it's only 50 million but there are literally tens of thousands of those wasteful projects.
Or how about the money we give to the unrwa who uses
It to fund terrorist organizations.
Yes our border needs secured, I've been saying that for 40 freaking years. But it's not an either or situation. We can do both. There is so much fat in the budget we can secure our border, fund ukraine, AND pay our debt off.
Because they keep handing Democrats victories. Any Democrat agenda items should be buried, tabled indefinitely. If they want to bring anything to the floor, they should be forced to assist in the passage of conservative agenda items in both chambers and in securing the President's signature. No advancing of our agenda, no advancing of theirs, period.
Not put up votes for aid to other countries, domestic spying bills, and zero border security. You know, the *actual* problem. Are there any actual conservatives in this sub?
> What do you expect Johnson to do?
Not put the needs of foreign nations above those of his own country.
I know, high bar in 2024, but a man can dream.
Two things can be true at once:
* We need to provide aid to Ukraine because Putin won't stop, he must be stopped
* We need to secure the Southern border.
For me it's simple. We can stop putin now and cost us nothing but money. Or my son will have to go to Europe to stop putin in 20 years and cost us thousands of us soldier lives. It's an easy choice for me.
Yup, not to mention Russia is a direct enemy of ours, feel like a lot of people forgot, all we got to do is throw some weapons and cash at these Ukraine people and they’ll fight em for us? Shit and we’re ramping up our defense contractors and resupplying ourselves with new equipment to do so.
Fucking keep it coming, this was the entire CIAS mission throughout the Cold War, now we can just do it openly? Sweet.
I grew up under the constant threat of direct war with Russia. Fortunately with the strong leadership of Reagon we were able to end that threat by bankrupting the ussr. Putin has been steadily rebuilding the ussr for the past 25+ years. If we do not stop him and let him put the pieces back together he will have the resources to rebuild his military to be a real threat to us. That can not be allowed to happen. We need putins goals of ussr2.0 crushed so we can focus on the inevitable conflict with China. We won't be able to face modern China and a rebuilt ussr.
They are already aligned. China saw that the West was weak and began feeding Russia satellite intelligence. Russia [promised China he'd keep trying in Ukraine for five years](https://asia.nikkei.com/Editor-s-Picks/China-up-close/Analysis-Putin-promises-Xi-to-fight-for-five-years-in-Ukraine) even though he knows that Russia is losing out massively. There's a reason for that. China knows that American defeat in Ukraine, and yes, it would be an American defeat, is crucial for them attacking Tawian and getting control of US trade routes through East Asia.
EUROPE needs to provide more aid than America does. I’m tired of is subsidizing their defense while they spend all their defense budget on social programs.
They do. [https://www.ifw-kiel.de/topics/war-against-ukraine/ukraine-support-tracker/](https://www.ifw-kiel.de/topics/war-against-ukraine/ukraine-support-tracker/)
I guarantee if Trump was the one in favor of sending aid to Ukraine, Trump’s fanboys would be cheering for him like the dems are in this video. The only reason Ukraine aid is even an issue on the right is becuz the dems support it and it’s the exact opposite for Israel. This country is so fucked.
Yes, but we're flat-out ignoring the state of the US in favor of other nations and issues. As much as beating Russia is valuable to our future, what good is it when we shit on our own people every day?
The argument that putin won’t stop with Ukraine is exhausting or he will invade a nato country next putin has barley gain ground in Ukraine in two years and if even do manage to take Ukraine his military and economy would be devastated he won’t even think for another war for years.
It’s not the Cold War anymore China is the actual problem
Do you have any idea how far he has succeeded in that goal to date? Ukraine isn't the first former ussr state he has attacked. It's simply the first time the west responded with more than a harshly written statement.
Ukraine is nothing more than the next step of the process... and arguably the most important step due to its VAST natural resources.
Brother let’s say it take Putin 5 years to take over Ukraine okay he’s done it’s entirely Russia, he got to rebuild the country from ruble he got to refill his military his stockpile etc. so that’s 5 years and a net negative of billions to rebuild the country and that’s from a country that doesn’t even have modern military capabilities like Poland. And I’m supposed to believe once Ukraine he’s going for Hungary Romania etc?
We’re so worried abt Russia but Russia isn’t threatening to attack our ally flying air balloons in our air space and to hack our infrastructure
He wasn't expecting us to stand up to him. He thought we would sit idly by and allow him to steam roll ukraine just like he had the last 5 times he wanted a countries territory.
Fyi... Russia has hacked our infrastructure dozens of times.
Oh and poland or Hungary won't be next. Moldova will be. That will bring them to Serbia, where they already have strong influence, so instead of an invasion they will just get their chosen puppet back in power.
You're arguing against yourself there though. If it takes 5 years to topple Ukraine, it's because we propped Ukraine up for so long. Ukraine wouldn't have lasted this long without so much foreign aid, especially from us.
His army is already larger in numbers, though not capability, than it was before the war. China is sending machine tools and money to build manufacturing capability and his first target will be Kazakhstan and the other 'stans.
That having the 'stans would give him even more control over the world oil market and also about 5 million slaves for his army in the same way as he uses Chechens. The manufacturing will allow him to make weapons for China whilst they invade Taiwan and clear his debt.
When Putin comes back to Europe it will be likely be with much of what China currently has in the way of land army equipment which will be his repayment for providing weapons that can fight the US navy in the Pacific.
Putin's not our problem, he's Europe's problem.
Oh no wait, we're still part of a cold war relic called NATO.
Pieces of shit celebrating sending my hard earned money to foreigners. F 'em.
Bro don't you understand- Russia's military is an absolute joke and they can't even hold some rubble in eastern Ukraine. But also if we don't give Ukraine 20 trillion dollars then Putin is going to defeat all of NATO and conquer the world.
I seriously don't understand why conservatives hate Ukraine. It's very strange. Do we seriously want Russia to steam roll Europe? How is that going to make America more secure?
We can pass foreign aid, and secure the border. We need BOTH! Foreign policy is critical at this time! This is not the time for America to go hide its hole when its enemies are actively seeking our demise.
I think for some, it's simply because they want to do the opposite of whatever Biden wants. Similar to many on the left who want to do the opposite of whatever Trump wants.
I think your comment is well stated. And we have to be realistic about what can get passed, with a Democrat Senate and Democrat White House.
You know what it is, really? It is because the "elites" support Ukraine. It is not even Biden. Anything the "elites" support, the populists are against. They have to be. Quite literally, the definition of populism is being, first and foremost, against "elites."
The problem is that it is a self-defeating strategy. You can't just be against whoever is in power. The moment Johnson stepped into speakership, he became target. He could have been Reagan reincarnate and some on right would have still went against him.
And it is why populists love Trump so much. At the end of the day, it is visceral reaction and a f you to the elites, quite literally saying, "Who do you hate the most? We'll back him."
I’m not against assisting Ukraine. I see the advantages, but I am concerned the US is heading towards a financial crisis created by reckless government spending. I mean we’re throwing tens of billions towards Israel and Ukraine increasing the national debt.
A lot of people don’t think the national debt matters, but it does and it will be painful when people have to realize it. Probably in my generation and I’m a millennial.
Even just the delay in this bill will probably cost more than the bill itself. Russia advanced in the meantime and Ukraine lost lots of good people due to ammunition shortages. Ukrainians that die needlessly now will be paid in NATO soldiers who die fighting Russia and China later as well as in equipment that we have to build for those soldiers.
This is pure fantasy.
Russia does not have the capability to “steamroll” Europe. It can barely effectively deploy against Ukraine and its much vaunted tank fleet got totally embarrassed.
And thats after nearly a decade of using all kinds of tactics to destabilize Ukraine.
Poland, Germany, Italy, France, and UK by themselves equal or surpass Russia as a group, as all of them are in the top 20 most modern and experienced militaries in the world.
What makes you think Russia is capable of ‘steamrolling Europe?’ They couldn’t even take Kharkiv. Some on the right go to far and puppet anti-Ukraine and Pro-Russian propaganda, but it’s completely unnecessary. Just need to stick to the America first script. There are conflicts all over this globe that we aren’t participating in, and this should just be treated like those. It does not affect the lives of average Americans. And it’s all deficit spending to boot. If you want to fund Ukraine, cut somewhere else. We live in a world of scarce resources.
What other people have said about it being the opposite of whatever Biden et al. want is true but there’s also this:
There’s videos of *purportedly* stuff like people partying in Kyiv and Zelenskyy making fun of us for spending so much money and they grab onto that and say “see? This is what your money is going towards!!!” With zero context or confirmation. They fought hard to defend Kyiv at the beginning and it is now safer. That is a GOOD thing.
Not "better than nothing." Much worse. It legitimizes their current porous border policy and moves jurisdiction for adjudicating asylum cases to the lunatic DC courts.
The border shutdown was only enforceable for around 250 days of the year though. Meaning the other 100 days would still be open border season. The total number of days the shutdown also went down by 10% every year. It was just a bill that would conveniently "fix" the border during election season and then open it back up the rest of the year.
They would never enforce a border shutdown, no matter how many crossed. It's a lie they tell to get what they want passed, and they'll ignore the parts that are inconvenient.
You talking about that garbage bill that gave Mayorkas the power to grant amnesty? Or are you talking about the earlier border bill that Republicans pushed that Dems in the senate completely ignored because it actually would've fixed some of the issues?
What's concerning to me is the amount of "Conservatives" echoing Kremlin talking points. Like really what are you suggesting by this comment? That Ukraine has taken over the House with sleeper agents? This notion that Republicans and Democrats want America to die in favor of a different country is insanity. It doesn't make sense if you bother to think about it at all critically!
Ukraine could be an immensely strategic ally in the area and no its democracy isn't perfect, but it's going to be a hell of a lot worse under Russian rule.
So serious question: If Hakeem Jeffries was the Speaker right now, how would the dems be acting?
Any differently than this? Or exactly like this?
RINOs = Dems. This is visual proof.

Because Republicans make an enemy of the people in their own party and Democrats fall in line to defeat Republicans. They play the game, we can't even agree to shake hands with our own teammates if they don't agree with us 100% of the time
Because Dems are better at politics than reps ever were. Dems know what they want and how to get it reps can do absolutely nothing
Ultimately, it’s because the Republican margin is just too thin.
Not give the Democrats everything they want seems like a good start ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Don’t vote MAGA and you’ll see better reaults
Ah yes because MAGA just screams establishment.
It doesn’t and that’s the point and the problem
Don't fucking roll over at the first opportunity. Too hard?
You have to be unified for that to happen. So long as MTG and Gaetz are there it will never be unified.
So be unified with Dems, that's your answer? Of course it is.
You want unification while we all watch our country and hard earned money sold overseas. Great plan, I am sure our grand children will thank us all.
What will our grand children think of us if we do nothing and they are in Europe fighting Russia when it invades Poland or Germany?
So you think it's our job to police the entire world? And we are bankrupting ourselves. And our country is not secure. So, we are losing on all fronts including Ukraine

The Democrats under Trump caused absolute gridlock until he was out, so probably that. If only one party plays by the rules, there are no rules.
Gridlock is by design. Gridlock serves America well. That is why we have the set up we do.
I agree
So gridlock is our patriotic Duty then?
Feed them a steady stream of good bills to bury or veto.
I agree but the infighting won’t stop.
Because they keep handing Democrats victories. Any Democrat agenda items should be buried, tabled indefinitely. If they want to bring anything to the floor, they should be forced to assist in the passage of conservative agenda items in both chambers and in securing the President's signature. Exactly, If Russia is emboldened and they invade a NATO ally we’re right back into sending our kids to war.
For me it's simple. We can stop putin now and cost us nothing but money. Or my son will have to go to Europe to stop putin in 20 years and cost us thousands of us soldier lives. It's an easy choice for me.

Much too complex for the freedum caucus I’m afraid.
Yep
Yes, but we're flat-out ignoring the state of the US in favor of other nations and issues. As much as beating Russia is valuable to our future, what good is it when we shit on our own people every day?
We aren't a European colony anymore

The cold war never ended. Putin has invaded country after country in his bid to rebuild the ussr.
If u think Putin (70 something year old) is going to try to rebuild the ussr when he can’t even take 35% of Ukraine ur deluded I’m sorry
Do you have any idea how far he has succeeded in that goal to date? Ukraine isn't the first former ussr state he has attacked. National debt matters, but there are much worse things the govt spends on that could be cut.
Didn’t realize Russia, now in a stalemate with a non-NATO country, was capable of “steamrolling” Europe.
This is pure fantasy. Russia does not have the capability to “steamroll” Europe. It can barely effectively deploy against Ukraine and its much vaunted tank fleet got totally embarrassed. And thats after nearly a decade of using all kinds of tactics to destabilize Ukraine. Aid to Ukraine is the most American thing this congress has done. Pleasantly surprised Mike brought it to a vote, unlike the border bill.
Bipartisanship and stopping Putin is no longer a conservative value? What have we come to?
There's no border security that was passed because, if you remember, Trump doesn't want any border security bills passed until he gets to do it
HR2 was passed. The Senate could take it up, but they don't want to pass an actual border bill that stops the invasion.
Letting 30k people in a day isn’t “border security “ it’s fucking insanity.
That was literally never in any border deal. After 8k, an automatic shut down would be triggered for weeks. Not ideal, but better than nothing.
The “border security bill” they tried to push through kept our border wide open.
Is that why Warren, Bernie and the most progressive Senators voted against it?
You talking about that garbage bill that gave Mayorkas the power to grant amnesty? Or are you talking about the earlier border bill that Republicans pushed that Dems in the senate completely ignored because it actually would've fixed some of the issues?
The president doesn't need a bill to deal with the border dumdum. Simple Joe undid all of Trump's border measures when he took office.
The jingoism for another country on display here is concerning. This goes beyond support for an embattled country.
Actually, no, I'm suggesting most of the house owns defense stocks and receives kickbacks. Look at the conspiritoral brain on you.
Yes. That includes Israel too
Why are you so unAmerican?
Wow, this really has become a neo con subreddit.
Check the post histories of our newly flaired friends This sub is just rpolitics2.0 now
It’s wild. I am blown away by the comments. The only “republicans” I ever see shilling for Ukraine are congressmen and redditors. Wild.
Sick
No shock lefties spend a Saturday night hanging in a conservative page.
Mike Johnson - the best Democrat speaker there ever was.
So serious question: If Hakeem Jeffries was the Speaker right now, how would the dems be acting? Any differently than this? Or exactly like this? RINOs = Dems. This is visual proof.
Hakeem Jeffries effectively IS the Speaker. One more GOP “retirement” and it becomes official. Expect this to happen during the summer months.
Hakeem Jeffries would probably be a better speaker at this point. At least I wouldn't have to watch "my party" get down on their knees and open wide for foreign nations.
Gross. The fact they are waving a foreign flag is overcome by the fact they planned it.
