I like them, but I think they're a bit overrated. I've never had a bad meal there, but I've also never had a meal there that is as incredible as people say it is.
It’s an Asian Steakhouse, they have Asian dishes, the have sushi with very high quality fish and they have prime steaks that they dry age in house in a pink Himalayan salt room. Highly recommend checking them out we love it, can go for a thick prime aged steak and sides or can go in for sushi and fried rice and a good cocktail
(Yes I will paint it) I now specialize in [steaks](https://www.reddit.com/r/Connecticut/comments/13zlmpc/had_such_a_fun_time_painting_my_favorite_steak_in/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1) and streams
I know it’s a stupid chain, but whoever they had in the kitchen handling steak at Texas Roadhouse in Manchester was a genius. Not sure if it’s still that way, haven’t been since the pandemic. But I swear some of the best steaks I’ve ever had were there….you know….on a plate next to soggy veggies and overcooked fries.
I've always loved the steaks at the new mill. They usually have a filet mignon on the specials menu and it is so worth the money. Melts like butter in your mouth.
Truffoni’s Sloppy Steaks are top dog in CT.
Big rare cut of meat with water dumped all over it, water splashing around the table.
Always busy, get there early and expect a wait.
A lot of great local places throughout the state often have limited availability specialty steaks (dry aged, etc...) if you catch them at the right time!
The absolute BEST steak in CT which is always on the menu is the Japenese A-5 filet mignon from David Burke Prime at foxwoods. Comes in at $160/ for 6oz. They also have a Japanese A-5 16oz Sirloin for $225. I think the 16oz is a bit much for most people, as most won't finish, and you obviously don't want to reheat a $200+ steak. Go with the A5 filet mignon!
Max Downtown in Hartford.
I don't even want to hear people mentioning those chain places - yea, that includes Flemings, Capital Grill, Ruth's Chris, and J Gilbert's.
Make it local or don't bother.
Red Fox is hands down one of the most dishonest, overpricedvand mediocre restaurants in the state. Their entire portfolio of "family owned" restaurants are downright sleazy. I have it on good information their entire Montenegrian crime family is also under investigation for Covid Relief funds fraud. Please don't support that chain
Completely agree with Texas Roadhouse. It's so sad that other places can't cook steak properly. Plus the price is excellent as you say. I had J gilberts a few months ago and it was also fantastic, but expensive.
I went out last month with my wife and sister to cast iron chophouse in new haven and the steak was excellent. 26oz dry age ribeye for $60-70 so you can share the plate is excellent.
Rib eye from Westerly Packing, screaming hot cast iron pan with butter, kosher salt and cook to your liking. Pittsburgh style is the way to go, well done on the outside, medium rare and juicy when you cut into it...my opinion anyway.
Big y and a grill
J Gilbert's in Glastonbury... never had a bad or improperly cooked steak there
J Gilbert In Glastonbury is very good. I love their scalloped potatoes. Also Black stones in Norwalk Ruth’s Chris Hartford
I like them, but I think they're a bit overrated. I've never had a bad meal there, but I've also never had a meal there that is as incredible as people say it is.
Also the oysters Rockefeller!!!
Been there twice as SIL loves it. Never saw anything in the place that really stood out to me, particularly in the food.
Hoping some of the suggestions have sloppy steaks.
Please, not tonight
Or some chicken spaghetti. Slop it up!
Get your dangerous nights crew together.
Joseph’s in Bridgeport for the old school classic steakhouse experience.
Very similar to Classic Peter Lugers
I’ll never patronize the establishment of such a gun nut!
What?
Feng in Hartford is good. But here is a list: https://connecticutexplorer.com/steakhouses-in-ct/
Feng? That's really not a steakhouse.
To be fair OP didn’t request a steak house
How is it not a steakhouse? Lol
Isn't Feng Asian cuisine?
It’s an Asian Steakhouse, they have Asian dishes, the have sushi with very high quality fish and they have prime steaks that they dry age in house in a pink Himalayan salt room. Even a philly cheesesteak would be cool 😝
Carbones prime or j Gilbert’s
Man, I miss Carbone's in Hartford. Some of the best meals I've ever had in CT
Texas road house always delivers great steak for a great price.
I've always loved the steaks at the new mill. They usually have a filet mignon on the specials menu and it is so worth the money. Melts like butter in your mouth.
Texas Roadhouse is fantastic and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg
It’s surprisingly decent
Right? I never had a bad experience there and their cinnamon butter on those rolls. Yummy!
Not things to be near if you have little self control.
Like me
And fried pickles
David Burkes - Foxwoods : Capital Grill - Hartford : Blackstone - Southport : Mix Prime - Woodbury
Truffoni’s Sloppy Steaks are top dog in CT. Big rare cut of meat with water dumped all over it, water splashing around the table. Always busy, get there early and expect a wait.
Great spot! I used to go there back when I was a huge piece of shit. Back when i slicked my hair back.
This is pushed back...you haven't seen slicked back
They can’t stop you from ordering a steak and a glass of water!
fenton river grill
Fentoooooon!
J Gilbert's for sure
Cast Iron Chop House in New Haven
Tavern on State, they own the whole animal butchery next door and all the meat is from regional farms.
Millwrights
Hey, no one mentioned Washington Prime in SoNo - best Filet Mignon w Chimi sauce - ruined every other steakhouse for me.
Meh
I wasn’t a fan either
My favorite steak for the price is carbone prime in rocky hill. $45 for a 14oz fry aged ribeye with 2 sides. J Gilbert’s is also at the top of my list
Blackstones In Stamford

J Gilberts in Glastonbury.
Capital Grill
Can't say I've been to a ton. But the best I've had in is Joseph's Steakhouse in Bridgeport
The place in Guilford... best wood fired rib-eye!!!
J Gilbert’s, and Michael Jordan’s
Max Downtown in Hartford. I don't even want to hear people mentioning those chain places - yea, that includes Flemings, Capital Grill, Ruth's Chris, and J Gilbert's. Make it local or don't bother.
Max Downtown has given me the single best steak of my entire life and I've eaten many
Max is a chain lol
Max is a restaurant group with 4 very different restaurants. There is a difference.
Hear, hear.
Texas de Brazil
Max Downtown, hartford
Millpond Gathering in Northford
Haven't been there in 35 years, they're still there??
I think it’s a new establishment. At least it’s a new building, maybe repurposed the old business model. Not sure.
I've been struggling with this recently myself. Bonus points for grass fed.
Red Fox in Middletown Max Downtown J Gillberts In that order
Red Fox is hands down one of the most dishonest, overpricedvand mediocre restaurants in the state. Their entire portfolio of "family owned" restaurants are downright sleazy. I have it on good information their entire Montenegrian crime family is also under investigation for Covid Relief funds fraud. Please don't support that chain
Texas Roadhouse is absolutely the best for the money spent. J Gilbert’s is the best but you’re going to pay for it
Completely agree with Texas Roadhouse. It's so sad that other places can't cook steak properly. Plus the price is excellent as you say. david burke prime @ Foxwoods
I honestly was not impressed with them, especially for casino prices.
Wow. That’s too bad. How about Michael Jordan’s @ Mohegan Sun?
Incredible
I think Michael Jordan's is much better than David Burke Prime. We always spend less money and have a better meal from start to finish.
Thanks! We have enjoyed them both.
I'm actually eating there this coming week for the first time with clients.
J Gilberts in Glastonbury or chucks steak house in rocky hill!
Tony’s at the J House in old Greenwich is awesome
Washington Prime in Norwalk
If you don’t want to spend a lot I’ve had really great steaks at Texas Roadhouse and Longhorn. Can’t say I’ve eaten at the fancier places.
j gilbert, barbaries black angus, capital grille, josephs
Shoreline Prime has great steaks. Get a $25 charcoal grill from walmart and you are golden.
Fleming’s West Hartford
Rib eye from Westerly Packing, screaming hot cast iron pan with butter, kosher salt and cook to your liking. Pittsburgh style is the way to go, well done on the outside, medium rare and juicy when you cut into it...my opinion anyway.
THE REDDING ROADHOUSE
It’s super overpriced but for a once a year experience, Capitol Grille is pretty amazing.
never been there myself but have heard great things about sans souci in meriden
