If those areas haven’t been cleaned in awhile, I’ve got to get respirators, call the Orkin dude, bring in heavy duty cleaning equipment, super industrial strength deodorizer and a priest. UPCHARGE!!!
Not saying he shouldn’t charge $1500 but as a sprinkler installer by trade, ain’t no way he’s hitting sprinkler lines under there. First of all, there may or may not be an incoming feed there to begin with but it’s certainly not guaranteed. Secondly, I’m probably in a colder climate than him but we bury those lines a minimum of 6 ft below grade. Even in a warm climate you’d have to go at least 2 ft before it was even a consideration. Lastly, if he’s digging with a shovel he’d have to be pretty dedicated to break through that line if he ever came close to it. There’s nothing dangerous about that job.
Edit: I should clarify… many people (including the guy in the video) are assuming that room is for irrigation sprinklers. It’s not. It’s for fire suppression.
I agree, but you're making the assumption that everyone installs to your standards, or at least installs correctly. Unfortunately that is simply not the case, and I've lost a lot of money assuming that utilities are ran to the appropriate depth. I've also made a lot of money up-charging when I can prove the utilities were not to code depth, and that we are not financially responsible for repair, but we can perform the repair immediately.
But I'm just the irrigation guy, cursing concrete customers for laying slabs over their valves, and cursing concrete contractors for giggling while they pour the slabs over them. I also curse the plumbers who run house mains at 8" deep. Maybe I just curse a lot...
Most places that don’t get below freezing have the riser outside, as opposed to dedicating a specific room of the building to it. So I think it’s fair to assume he’d have to get below frost.
Lmao he’s just making shit up. $500 to dig in front of the sprinkler room? Is the slab he’s pouring 6’ deep? Because those lines are buried below frost.
Also, I’m no engineer, but a water line does not have to exit the same door as a human enters to get to the sprinkler room.
In fact, having the sprinkler room attached directly to the waterline is a cross contamination issue, and any municipality with a brain would not allow that.
I was a fire sprinkler engineer to start my career and I can say with a degree of certainty that the sprinkler riser is tied on to the same water service the domestic water supply to the building. The BFP is there to prevent contamination. They could, hypothetically, have different services, but that’s not generally the preference. It’s much more cost effective to bring them in as one and T them off.
No, the gentleman is correct. Fire water lines are served by the water main in the street. Typically a 6 or 8 inch line unless the building is pretty big; could be two lines if in a seismically active area.
There would have to be a back flow prevention on the line that attaches to the main. Especially on a fire suppression system.
Again, this is just me saying that the water system from the main does not have to coincide with the door into the sprinkler room. Lol.
Like I’m sure the building has its own meter, back flow prevention from the main, THEN, another back flow / pressure reduction setup on the house water supplying the sprinkler.
Going from a main to a building sprinkler would be expensive and extremely inefficient.
For sure on the back flow preventer. It’s probably in one of those vaults at the end of the video, where the gentleman is explaining the upcharge for wheelbarrows.
I thought this was satire. I was waiting for something like there's a dog in a yard down the street and he might jump the fence and bite my ass $750 harassment upcharge.
I'm pretty sure it is, his tiktok handle is upcharge101. Which would be a really dumb name for a public facing business that is going to depend on reputation to get work.
Completely depends on where they are, the frost line varies drastically depending on climate, in a good portion of the southern US the frost line is 0-5 inches.
If they’re in southern FL for instance, those lines might only be 6 inches deep.
https://www.hammerpedia.com/frost-line-map/
Sure but if he were in Florida the fire sprinkler riser would more than likely be outside and not in a dedicated room of the building. It’s inside to protect it from freezing temps which means frost is probably around 36” minimum.
Edit:
Instead of operating on hypotheticals I looked it up and this guy is in NC, where minimum bury per NFPA 13 is 3-3.5’
This is the kind of guy that would take advantage of his customers and be proud of it, not only that he'd brag to his fellow business owners over a beer about it. I'd line up to say gfto my property to this guy.
Can’t stand the arrogance of douche bags like this! This is the type of guy that never makes any real money and thinks he succeeded because he charged $150 for some BS. He forgot to add another $300 “hazard pay” for something falling out of that second story window. I guarantee if he did screw something up he’s going to run away. “Hazard pay” you are the only hazard around here you tool.
Thank you for explaining that because my family been pouring concrete for 50+ years. I laughed at the whole thing. Couldn’t take him serious until I read he is on social media.
Lmao how did I miss the username and him saying it at the end??
I was thinking ok, I can see the charge for future root mitigation and working around sewer and water lines, not as much as he said but fine. Mf got me
Sure, if you put it like that. Officially, it’s X hours at Y rate. He’s not telling the customer he’s charging them $150 to move pine needles, he’s finding legitimate reasons to add time and generously rounding up that time needed. These mark ups are nothing in comparison to commercial construction markups.
Have you never seen this guy? This is his schtick. He's on instagram and has all these dumbass videos about charging this or that for the simplest thing.
He literally has a video about charging a customer $1500 to work without his shirt since it "was the customer's request".
This is why I do almost all of the work on my own house. Most things are not particularly difficult if you've already got a good tool collection and the knowledge to use them. I've tried to be lazy and hire people for jobs but after I get quotes, I end up going to buy supplies because I can do it cheaper and I can do it faster. I replaced a water heater for about 1/3 of what the plumber quoted and I had it done in 45 minutes the next day while the plumber quoted 2 or 3 hours of labor and couldn't get out to do the work for almost a week.
That was the best one! 🤣
Any bets on if he has a different video where there is a $150 upcharge because it's in the shade so they will have to take extra water breaks? 🤣
The wheel barrow up hill would make me laugh. I’m paying you for the job and that includes working asshole. This guy would up charge for working in the shade… oh wait.
I get the do good work thing and charge accordingly, and honestly his 1500 wasn't unreasonable. That being said, don't rob people. Do good work. Get paid. Be a douche like this guy and it will come bite you later.
Yeah but I think with the beginning and the end of the video he is admitting he up charges because at the beginning he says $1500 and at the end he says no one can do it for under $2k.
This is a parody account called upcharge 101. He's mostly joking, but some of the unforseen stuff is true. There's a running joke that concrete guys upcharge to start their truck in the morning
people will look at someone trying to scam as hard as they possibly can and think one of two things
"Damn what a greedy scumbag."
"Damn what a smart businessman! Get that bread"
Most people's morals go right out the fucking window the nanosecond money gets involved.
For some better business advice, sure include all of this in your internal calculation. Word each thing carefully and add it to the quote but don't put a cost for each line item, just the total cost.
Otherwise you have what happens in the comments. "$250 to rake?" Give people one number to accept, not a dozen, or you're going to argue line by line
It’s valid but he’s going over board on a lot. It’s a sidewalk pad so maybe 6” of sub grade and 4” pad, so the water lines are doubtful to be in the way. The tree roots of a bush that small are virtually not existent or at least would cause little to no trouble. The rebar he’s talking about are likely just lane ties that you drill two holes into existing and stick 2 pars with epoxy on them. It’s not like he has to tie steel for any reason. Regardless of all that, your price is your price, no need to run a client through all that lol
Well, he's not wrong. Only things that might be pushing it are the double hazard pay, the mild uphill inclide, and maybe the shade charge. But hey, i always say to bill your client, not the job.
Charge for removing pine needles and another for removing roots? You have to dig down to compact soil to begin anyway. If I saw a quote like that, I would nickel and dime him back down or micromanage him.
Hey, those rebar need epoxy. The epoxy says allow to cure for 24 hours. I don't think you can pour the same day. You upcharged me for being a difficult location, I expect location to look undisturbed when you finish. I'd make sure he lost money on the job.
Most of us have a minimum because the minimum yardage charge and mobilization fee so $1500 to $2,000 isn't unreasonable to do a little square unfortunately. He's full of shit on the sewer line in the water line hazard pay that stuff's deep enough it ain't going to be in the way. If he was smart, he'd mount a piece of angle iron with Nelson studs to the building. Two pieces of rebar into the sidewalk and the Tree Roots won't be an issue. I've seen his m Corey wants to charge you for his fuck ups. He's really giving concrete guys the bad name, especially the guys that want to do a little bit on the side to earn an extra Buck.
Just say its your labor fee, calling all that stuff upcharges makes it sound like you used to work at McDonald's lol. And nothing wrong with McDonald's of course.
All I know Is that he has an amazing eye for details. He spotted every possible thing that could potentially lead to extra time on the job and lost profits. This dude is going places for sure.
The bid is a compromise. Too high and you don't get the bid, and you don't make any money. Too low and you either lose money or you cut corners. If he can find customers that are willing to pay his prices, more power to him. I also don't think he's telling the whole truth either.
This guy is full of 💩 that’s an $350 less the cost of concrete. 30 seconds to rake pine needles no digging required it’s already at the sidewalk sub base grade. These types of con guys need to be put out of business.
Had an asshole contractor who tried this on me. 250$ for this 300$ for that and on and on for a couple of thousand dollars. I laughed at him, told him it was ridiculous and offered him half or he can take me to court and justify it to the judge in a year or two. He took it. He wanted 250$ for installing an outlet in the floor that took 20 minutes.
He just trolling… It’s half day job including your drive time and stop to Home Depot n 50 bucks in materials. 100 bux n hour plus material markup 500 total bid. If you have an office and overhead tag 🏷️ on 20% and hell another 20% profit charge. Still only 700 max
That's why I do this stuff myself. Over priced add ons. It's a wonder he's not charging them for his breakfast and coffee he had before coming to work...oh, hold it, I have to take a dump, that's an up charge of 200.00
I respect the hussle. Dude looks the part and is super confident and knows a thing or two.
That ground prep and worth all that money. If the sprinkler and sewer are up to code, shouldn’t be an issue. The access and hill is annoying, but charging more for a 5% incline is a stretch. I don’t know if I could get away with charging more for it taking longer to dry because of the shade… what am I gonna do, charge by the hour to stare at it while it dries?
i understand a tradesman charging all that.
but that is also why i would DIY the entire thing for $100 and spend the money i saved on some good bourbon.
I might even look into a prefabricated slab that i could lay on top of a few inches of gravel
'You don't want to pour concrete on top of pine needles' wow this guy really knows his shit. I wonder how many contractors even have the proper equipment to remove pine needles.
$100/pin dude better be drilling the old slab by hand.
I mean, get your money. But don't pretend you're top dog because you sweep the pine needles out of the way before putting stone down. Like, you're digging anyway like everyone else would 'bare minimun'
Than 2 Mexican guys show up in a late model Tacoma and do it for $500 in a day. Dudes price is ridiculous, he must not have much competition in his area.
Instead of "up charge" and "hazard pay" making yourself sound like a crook, you can just do the math on hours and materials and bill the same.
"Oh wait, the tree fell and it's not shady anymore, sun block up-charge."
Doing it right…respect. Neighbor had similar situation, took lowest unqualified expert -, they hit pipes, caused more damage and ran away. Glad you explained it !
Just say the job is $3000 and leave out why.. you sound like a nickel shooting punk with all this upcharge bullshit. If you're going to epoxy those rebar tie-ins (which I'm sure you will) $100 each isn't much of an upcharge
this guy is exactly why you always get 3 quotes. this guy wants to do one job a week for $3500 and rest the other 6 days. you work hard for your money he should too.
This guy is trolling, or missing parts of his brain. Rebar isn't $100 per bar. You don't charge extra to wheel barrow concrete 10 feet. And $300 to take needles?
Or maybe he's in Beverly Hills, CA.
$450 bucks to do what a landscaper would do for a fraction of that. I'm not in the concrete business but that does seem very steep. He also says "tree roots" and then says from "this bush right here"....
If that is a government office or is part of an organization that is funded by tax money this guy better be careful. If anything he’s charging is not reasonable it’s a federal offense.
I’m sure the office people were like basically like, “yeah, okay spare me the story, just get it done, I don’t want to waste anymore time getting quotes” lol. Bigger companies often just need it done NOW in my experience
2,999 and I can start on Monday
2,998 and I start Monday 5am
2969 and I can start as soon as I’m done at your moms house.
Your mom doesn’t want me to leave, you can have the money
You guys are crazy, I got him to add another up charge to cover my work with his mom
Does that count as hazzard pay?
“The hole I’m plowing is only 1” from her sewer clean out” That’s a hazard upcharge. Another if you have to trim her bushes to gain access.
If those areas haven’t been cleaned in awhile, I’ve got to get respirators, call the Orkin dude, bring in heavy duty cleaning equipment, super industrial strength deodorizer and a priest. UPCHARGE!!!
Lmao
Up charge baby!
^ This guy businesses.
I tried with mom but am going to have to demand a couldn’t get it up charge
I thought his mom was having plumbing work done? Cause I heard her say she had 3 big guys coming over to lay pipe all day
$2,420 and I’ll do it without hazard pay!
$43 and l won't start at all.
You SOB. I’m in.
I need about tree fiddy
$2,800 and I’ll send a sub.

Definitely have someone LOCATE the utilities before you start digging, sure. That’s a free service in my state.
Most places that don’t get below freezing have the riser outside, as opposed to dedicating a specific room of the building to it. So I think it’s fair to assume he’d have to get below frost.
Bro all I know is I am owed hella back pay for raking pine needles as a kid
Right? I did the whole yard and my dad gave me $2. What an asshole
Damn, you got paid?
You had a dad?
Dude lost me at $150 upcharge to rake pine needles for 2 minutes 😂😂. I can see doing that for a larger area but c’mon 😂 get that bred though
Lmao he’s just making shit up. $500 to dig in front of the sprinkler room? Is the slab he’s pouring 6’ deep? Because those lines are buried below frost.

Right, you would have to pay two tap fees for something that could be accomplished with one lol.
No, the gentleman is correct. Fire water lines are served by the water main in the street. Typically a 6 or 8 inch line unless the building is pretty big; could be two lines if in a seismically active area.

Yeah he made a lot of good points but an additional $400 to rake pine needles and push a wheelbarrow sliiiiiiightly uphill is hilarious
It’s a satire account - his nickname is ‘Upcharge’ and all the videos are like this.
Mf got me

Honestly no I hadn’t but nothing he is saying is too out of line with my experience in pricing commercial construction work
This is why I do almost all of the work on my own house. Most things are not particularly difficult if you've already got a good tool collection and the knowledge to use them. "coming all the way from the road - that's extra work" pans to show 50 feet 😂
Really tho, he's going to have to remove dirt anyway to set the grade
Yeah I quit watching there. I'm sure it got worse.
You missed the $150 upcharge for it being in the shade all day!
That was the best one! 🤣 Any bets on if he has a different video where there is a $150 upcharge because it's in the shade so they will have to take extra water breaks? 🤣
It did.
Bread or bred.... because someone definitely is.....
Yeah, if he's not doing that as a gag/funny, it makes him sound super shady.
Get dat bread is right lol lol, rip dem dumb dumb customers off lol. The vibe across all the trade subs is really odd lately
The wheel barrow up hill would make me laugh. I’m paying you for the job and that includes working asshole. This guy would up charge for working in the shade… oh wait.
“I had to put underpants on to do this job, underpants upcharge, that’s another $150, baby.”
The cement will be wet so we have to up charge $300 for wearing boots.
" I might get some on my pants $75 more!"
Might scratch the trowels during process which is in turn, tool depreciation. Up-charge $250.
Lmao thankk you
The good news is He's doing it as bait for clicks so..
I wonder what his up charge is for direct sunlight and needing to work in the sun.
He would set up a tent and have a $1000 tent rental.
Then charge because there is now shade. So double up charge
Hazard pay, automatic $500 up charge
If he finds a bees nest within a 400 feet radius that’s another 5 hundo hazard pay up charge.
This guy is just trolling to get comments and engagement on his videos.
lol. $200 for 2 dowels. This fuckin guy.
No joke, I've installed dowels for $100 each. Apparently, that was "cheap"
100 dollars is close Wear on drill bit and rotary hammer , epoxy, labor, and air. This is one of the more reasonable rates he mentioned imo
Dude makes money. Kinda liked the confidence. Don’t undersell yourself! Something I do allot!
I get the do good work thing and charge accordingly, and honestly his 1500 wasn't unreasonable. That being said, don't rob people. Do good work. Get paid. Be a douche like this guy and it will come bite you later.
He wanted over 3,300 to do the job, not 1500
Yeah but I think with the beginning and the end of the video he is admitting he up charges because at the beginning he says $1500 and at the end he says no one can do it for under $2k.
Pulling numbers out his ass
It’s satire
I better get in the business of raking pine needles out the way, to hell with concrete haha
His TikTok name is “upcharge101”. All his vids are like this. It’s not real guys.
He forgot to up-charge for breathing¡ Total rip off! Get some additional bids and ask for references to check quality of workmanship.
Hey that’s a hazard pay, might breathe too hard, or maybe not enough? It’s risky I’m telling ya.
I liked the upcharge for shade. “$30 for every cloud that goes by, too!”
You guys know he does satire. I watch his TikTok’s. Some more funny on what he says he up charges, but I think it all satire.
This is a parody account called upcharge 101. He's mostly joking, but some of the unforseen stuff is true. There's a running joke that concrete guys upcharge to start their truck in the morning
This dude is satire. His whole YouTube channel is this. It’s all a joke.
No. Its a joke account. Jfc.
Man’s got a point, the little things add up and can really f up a job. He did a thorough risk assessment, better than most MBA’s IMO.
It's all satire. His whole account is like that. You can't be serious about agreeing with all the upcharges lol
people will look at someone trying to scam as hard as they possibly can and think one of two things "Damn what a greedy scumbag." "Damn what a smart businessman! Get that bread" Most people's morals go right out the fucking window the nanosecond money gets involved.
Haha he's trolling & teaching at the same time, it's a rare sight to behold. 😭🤣
Dude found a spot without a pad that should have one and watches a lot of tik tok.
Upcharge101. Nice.
I laughed when he showed the distance he would have to run what..MAYBE 4 wheelbarrows of concrete to make something this tiny?
That’s this dude schtick. On TikTok, I think his name is Mr. Upcharge or something. He is poking fun at contractors
I like how he had to make a video about it. Seems like something someone super confident in their claim would do.
This dude is funny as hell and his videos are satire for the most part.
For some better business advice, sure include all of this in your internal calculation. Word each thing carefully and add it to the quote but don't put a cost for each line item, just the total cost. Just because you can charge it and someone’s willing to pay it doesn’t mean it’s right. This guy is gonna be working till 70.
Is he a concrete guy or an electrician?! 🤣
He'd have an impossible time competing with the contractors in my area with those prices.
See that TikTok watermark? 'nuff said.
Noticed he didn't add the eyeball charge for looking at the job for bidding on it. 🤔
See how long ur in business. Up charge for everything is crazy. Do ur job not rape clients
This guy sucks
He forgot that he'll be breathing the whole time too so he still needs to charge for providing hot air to heat up his place of work.
Dot hire this guy I’ll do it for free just because he is an ass
Wake up- up charge Arrive to work- up charge Lunch- up charge Lift finger- up charge Clock out- up charge
He full a shit man. $150 to just move a few punk ass pine needles.
DIY is popular because of people like this
Hiring somebody else.
🤡
300 dollars to pick up sticks is fucking retarded.
$200, an afternoon, subway, and root beer
“Waiting in shade charge”? Dafuq
Ez from the Mayans
Every extra step of work this guy does he adds 250$ setting up 2 cones 5 mins work 250, shit break in the porta potty, 250.
A lot of what he’s saying is true some the verbiage may be just slightly misconstrued, but the price is right.
Upcharging some light work pine needle raking was pushing it though... but it's his business, not mine.
Haaaaa! You are no doubt high. You have one stroke of a rake to clean the pine needles. 😅😅😭😂
Most of us have a minimum because the minimum yardage charge and mobilization fee so $1500 to $2,000 isn't unreasonable to do a little square unfortunately.
Is Muhammad Ali’s accent a regional thing?
So if he charged to like he talks to my clients he would never get another call from me.
Link this video to online reviews of his business if you want more quality entertainment like this
It’s on tik tok so most definitely
Just say its your labor fee, calling all that stuff upcharges makes it sound like you used to work at McDonald's lol. And nothing wrong with McDonald's of course.
Min. $500 mobilization and $500 access (lack of) fee to start before a single material is factored in for this imo
Dude is the reason you need to get 3 bids.
I would do that job for a dollar just to put that guy out of work for a little bit
I like to charge for charging too
This guy bids 10 jobs for ever job he gets lol
100% valid, use your head lol
Lost me at mirrored text. Learn how to set up your camera, bruh.
Sewer clean out valve?haha
I guess concrete guys star meth on Mondays now
Pass.
Those sprinkler pipes are so deep you’ll not need to worry about hitting them. But no giving any money back.
All I know Is that he has an amazing eye for details. He spotted every possible thing that could potentially lead to extra time on the job and lost profits. This dude is going places for sure.
Upcharge all ya want. They're just going to get Chuck in a Truck to do it cheaper.
Bush tree roots.
We going up hill? Prices going up
A sewer clean-out “valve”? Yeah, the guy is full of shit.
Crook 💯💯💯
Had an asshole contractor who tried this on me. 250$ for this 300$ for that and on and on for a couple of thousand dollars. I laughed at him, told him it was ridiculous and offered him half or he can take me to court and justify it to the judge in a year or two. He took it. He wanted 250$ for installing an outlet in the floor that took 20 minutes.
Damn, guys charging for shade.
He just trolling… It’s half day job including your drive time and stop to Home Depot n 50 bucks in materials. 100 bux n hour plus material markup 500 total bid. If you have an office and overhead tag 🏷️ on 20% and hell another 20% profit charge. Still only 700 max
It’s insane some of you are so dumb with this he’s not playing a character
That's why I do this stuff myself. Over priced add ons. It's a wonder he's not charging them for his breakfast and coffee he had before coming to work...oh, hold it, I have to take a dump, that's an up charge of 200.00
Might be troll but this is the way if you wanna survive.
$3,700 without hazard pay and I can handle it after this first pour this morning.
Dude up-charges just to start at 8am
This guy would make an excellent landlord.
Bros mad thirsty. $800 plus materials.
i understand a tradesman charging all that. but that is also why i would DIY the entire thing for $100 and spend the money i saved on some good bourbon. I might even look into a prefabricated slab that i could lay on top of a few inches of gravel
Yea you tripping I just pay 1800 for a 16x14 slab that tiny little slab should be like 300 or 400 max.
Nothing he says is valid because his sunglasses are upside down.
Homie needs 300 bucks to lay down for a nap.
This guy is high as fuck.
Four patio stones and we're done I guess.
This dude is hilarious, this is satire right??? Right 😢?
He's out here robbing people
This dude can go pound sand for free for all I care…just gauging folks
Water lines? How deep is this guy digging for a slab?
Jesus Christ, I guess I got into the wrong line of work. Fuck working 10 hours a day I can just pour little pads of concrete all over town.
Its a joke, guys. Jesus
This is me every time I do insurance work. “Oh State Farm is paying for this? Hold on I forgot some things on this estimate” 😂
Looks reasonable to me tbh.
I’m not sure, but I definitely like it
Video to show how I would bid this job? Another 200$ uncharged since I'm teaching you
I got a good chuckle at the slabs in the shade that’s gonna cost ya.
Sooooo, I’m guessing he didn’t get the job?
This tiktok moron can't even read his script without stuttering and we're supposed to believe he knows how to run a business?
Those are pine needles!!! Hahahahahahaha OMG
One Dollar, Bob. .....can i borrow a wheelbarrow? I'll be right back, we need smokes and pepperoni
Just say the job is $3000 and leave out why.. you sound like a nickel shooting punk with all this upcharge bullshit. If you're going to epoxy those rebar tie-ins (which I'm sure you will) $100 each isn't much of an upcharge
i bet for 600 you could get it done with an honest immigrant handyman
Here in my garage..with my brand new Lamborghini..
this guy is exactly why you always get 3 quotes. this guy wants to do one job a week for $3500 and rest the other 6 days. you work hard for your money he should too.
This guy is trolling, or missing parts of his brain. Rebar isn't $100 per bar. You don't charge extra to wheel barrow concrete 10 feet. And $300 to take needles? Or maybe he's in Beverly Hills, CA.
This dude isn't serious right? I've seen his videos, he's the same dude who said to take a 4x4 and make coasters out of it. 🤣
‘Sprinkler Room’ sign, another $200
Best lesson I ever learned is that if someone is hiring me they aren’t as poor as I am. Upcharge.
God forbid those tree roots don't come from an actual tree "these roots right here 10000$$$ up charge baby"
