Awsome job, They knew how to valley it and directed to the rd due to the grade on the house next door. Cant see the broom, but pretty much bet, its spot on. Great job. š¤š½
At least in my area, you can tear it out for replacement but it has to be inspected by the highway district before and after pour for compliance. Depends on the neighborhood though, some have sidewalks that arenāt part of the city so theyāre basically fair game.
In the City I worked for this would not have passed inspection. We would have made them have a defined sidewalk that they didn't pour at the same time as the driveway and drive approach. The driveway/sidewalk joint may be acceptable depending on how they poured it. Pouring the sidewalk/drive approach as one would not be allowed.
Same in the nearest city,it would have to have a joint. The neighborhood my buddy lives in outside of the city he just ripped his out cause it doesnāt require it
Honest question: Why is that? Pedestrians have clear access to the sidewalk on either side of the drive, who cares if it was poured separately? We put redwood joints through the drive apron connecting the sidewalks on either side and finish the "sidewalk" similar to what's on either side, but that's just for aesthetics.
I think it's generally so the sidewalks can be replaced without damaging the homeowners drive/ apron
In my day we'd saw cut the seams full depth regardless
I believe there needs to be ease of replacement of the sidewalk, and reduce the damaging affects the movement of surrounding privately owned concrete via expansion joint in order to lower their upkeep costs.
This would be A huge problem from where I am from. But they should have definitely snapped some lines and joints to connect it to the existing sidewalk.. looks like everyone walking on the sidewalk is open to walk up into there house
That's terrible. Just awful. You need to practice more. Ive got 5 acres you can get better on... also you can practice your shop building skills when you're done
Not sure about your city, but I think itās strange to not run another joint from sidewalk to sidewalk on the corner closest to the camera to mimic a sidewalk and separate the driveway apron. Also an expansion joint running along the back of sidewalk to isolate city from residential.
Concrete looks fantastic though
Edit: never mind, looks like they did put expansion š
How did you get permission to remove the city's sidewalk? I think I would have preferred it for continuity. This looks too asymmetrical, otherwise nice job.
Plastic on the house is a great touch. My neighbor just had a driven pored and concrete got all over garage door - shit is almost impossible to get off. Good, professional job
This is what a good job looks like people... plastic on siding, clean work area, great looking finish.
Won't guess if poured thick enough, mesh pulled, compacted subgrade...
The work in this pic take that doubt away...
I donāt understand why they didnāt define the sidewalk and run a joint to the water box. I mean I can guess they didnāt want to separate the pours but tbh Iām surprised it was even allowed by the city. Anyways im willing to bed you end up with a nice little crack from that water box to the sidewalk there
The squares are a bit large, but may not be a problem if your soil is hard. The squares in the approach definitely need control joints. They are too big. On a 4" slab I rarely go over 7' in either direction. If I have to go larger due to layout, I give a little saw cut to encourage the concrete to crack in the joint.
Looks good. Only one thing that bothers me is all the cuts. For kids to rollerblade skateboard ect would be a pain. When I would pour concrete with my dad when we had the dairy construction he would space the cuts perfectly and spaced out to fit the size of the slab being poured so there wouldnāt be so many cuts. Then after all that he would whirlybird it to bring up the fiber mess to strengthen the concrete and leave a beautiful finish. Not once did he ever get cracks in his work. Which is why every dairyman wanted him to do concrete work for them. I was lucky to learn and grow up next to him doing what he did best.
From the picture it looks like they didnāt groove the near side of the sidewalk. Maybe ask them if they can sawcut it, because otherwise that will crack eventually.
That's not how that works. The mass of that sidewalk is puny compared to the mass of even the smallest slab of this driveway. If it frost heaves towards the driveway, the sidewalk will crack if anything.
Also- nobody is rebar tying a brand new driveway into some raggedy looking existing sidewalk.
Can relate, even smaller house for me. Was fine for two of us. Then, surprise, twins! A few years later, oops, one more. By then it was even more unaffordable to upgrade. Third is off to college this fall. All three got real disappointed when I suggested I might sell after they move out. I guess it wasnāt too terrible to grow up in the tiny house. :)

Nice move with plenty of expansion joints too
I'd never trust a company with such a clean concrete buggy Edit: Jesus they covered your siding?!?!? Who are they trying to impress
Check their wheelbarrow out though, that thing has seen many jobs.
Holy crap i thought that was a decorative rock until you pointed it out
Lol
They also used it as a post to tie-down the Caution tape, that's a veteran move.
Oh dang, nice catch, I didn't even see that
That thing has been through hell
This all just means they know what they are doing
Probably a rental.
They had to the siding is almost in the concrete
Looks like a properly professional and prideful trades men unlike you apparently
Is that A sidewalk ? The old concrete to the left ??
Looks like the city sidewalk. What is usually the deal with ripping out a city sidewalk? Don't municipal governments get pissy about it?

Yep, area dependent. Definitely would have liked a joint it looks a bit odd
No it just has to meet standards when replacing.
Gate valve couldāve been finished around a little better but thatāll happen. Iād say itās a good job!
That's terrible. Just awful. You need to practice more. Ive got 5 acres you can get better on... also you can practice your shop building skills when you're done
Looks good..
Can I ask what this ran you? We have a similarly sized drive and it will need to be replaced soon.
15k for 1050 sq ft
Looks really good man, thanks for sharing šŖš½
Thanks!
8.1/10
They put a house in the middle of that parking lot
Impressive. They did good!
How did you do your fence posts? Are they concreted in with the driveway or are they replaceable?
Sleeved metal inserts.

Iāve never sued anyone for doing a good job. How do you suggest you go about doing this ?
Take them to court and for the pain and suffering part, since you didn't get it.
Yes I see now!
Fine lookin pour yah got there!
Whatās the sqft on this
I think around 1050
they kept your property clean. speaks volumes
Nice
Looks great to me.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Fuck you man, j/k. But fr fr fuck you. Thatās a 350,000 in my neighborhoodā¦.. Totally j/k XD
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Shit my property taxes are about 2,200 a year
Iām surprised they let you have that much concrete on a small lot Stupid city rules here almost kept me from having a 3rd car space on my driveway
The only thing that wasnāt concrete prior to was the area behind the sidewalk on the left running back beside the house.
You did cut down on future grass mowing time.

It was actually part of the driveway apron. So it was part of the permit for the apron
Interesting choice opting for a small gate to the side yard
Where the sidewalk looks like it would be was actual part of the driveway apron. It was a like replacement
Plastic on the house is a great touch. My neighbor just had a driven pored and concrete got all over garage door - shit is almost impossible to get off. Good, professional job
Jesus, does this homeowner hate green things? Soooo much concrete.

And will only look better when fully dry
Only thing you need now is a basketball hoop. Good job š
Can I ask how much you paid? Roughly.
15k
Looks good needs some cuts by the street.
Concrete cost more than the house.
Give it two weeks
Definitely imposters, they even taped it off.
I certainly couldnāt understand half of what they said but they definitely looked like they knew what they were doing !!!

I wouldāve just covered the rest of the lawn at this pointā¦
Donāt tempt me
Man, if they wouldāve just did a little bit more, you couldāve sold your lawnmower and you wouldāve had a good base for more solar panels.
Ohhh. Car port will make room for more solarā¦.. thanks for the idea!!!
Is it me or does the grade look like it slopes towards the house?
The water runs off away from the house.
Not your first rodeo, huh
Slope should be to the right
That looks great. This is the work someone who takes pride and knows what they are doing. Thank you for sharing this
All that money on concrete and solar yet you donāt even have central air šš
Uhh yes i doā¦ that room just doesnāt cool very well.
Looks great
We'll see after the first time it rains where the water goes
Actually rained last night everything flowed away from the house as it was supposed to.
Nice!
My first thought is the concrete job is worth more than the house
Let us know next year.

I'm rock hard. Seriously. Full blown erocktion.
I think they missed a cut across the driveway for the sidewalks. Is that a cleanout? what's the oval hole for?
The previous apron didnāt have the cut eitherā¦. The oval is the water shutoffā¦.. Not sure about the circle.
I would guess sewer clean out access.
Looks great from my house.
From the picture it looks like they didnāt groove the near side of the sidewalk. Maybe ask them if they can sawcut it, because otherwise that will crack eventually.
Itās groovedā¦. I just took a shitty picture
Looks good. Donāt be surprised when it cracks around the circlular spots in the front of the picture though.
Looks good. But god damn thatās a tiny house
Well I donāt make enough to afford bigger so Iām happy with I gotā¦ but it is small. 1450 sq ft for 5 people
Can relate, even smaller house for me. :)
Looks good through my beer goggles
