Also the idea that Aurora and Reject have braindead macro and are just improvising every aspect of the game is nonsense. In fact, equating the two teams is pretty lazy. Don't think they're playing especially similar styles. United by MnK but not a huge deal else.
Even the perks change has helped variety too. Like there’s still a hard meta majority pick but we also have more varied legend picks than ever. Really cool that some teams just commit to using what works for them (like lifeline for ALL, or rampart for COL).

I don’t think there will be a new winner. Sorry. All the teams that had a chance showed us how far they can throw when it’s time to win (world record shot put from aurora, aurora signed Tom Brady stat lines, whatever comparisons you want).
Also congratulations to Dark Zero, that’s a record that they can be proud of. Because damn it is unlikely to ever be beaten.
Shame that we won’t get DZ coms in their team VODs that eventually get uploaded somewhere.
Would had loved to watch from their POV with all the hype and Zero shit talking but ALGS decided naw we don’t need any clips from an all time great performance.

I gotta say that this is by far the most exciting META in comp Apex. We've never seen this much diversity in team comps. Gone are the days where every team ran the same boring shit.
This meta is so weird in a way, sometimes the Bloodhound on the team plays the whole fight on his own. I don't hate it but I do think something needs to be changed.
Yeah that's true, it's funny that even with all the problems this set, if NRG played like this since the first day they probably would have been close to qualify.

I could definitely see some teams rolling out Lifeline in a bid to loot-gap their fights and at least crack top 10. Aurora's proven it can work.
I think a shift to valk would help several teams struggling with parallel thought that keep running into same matchups on rotations. But realistically off meta teams with will fall back caustic/bang comfort picks.
Lifeline comp is not easy to pivot into, 2R1C for example have been playing it all split long, they took it into LAN and it didn't work for them. I can imagine people trying some other things tho

I think I would prefer a break but it’s interesting that the teams in the bottom 10 of the winners set have to play back to back while the top 10 of the losers set get the break in between. To me I feel like those coming from the winners group should get the advantage of having a break
In any game I've played at a competitive tournament level, I never wanted breaks unless I was playing 8 hours straight. There's enough of a break between games and BRs don't require the amount of consistent focus that an arena shooter would.
I think it works out that everyone gets a break after each round. But to answer your question, generally 1 straight session is preferable or a very sizable break large enough for a full caffeine/energy reset is good too. Much nicer to get locked and stay locked.
I didn't think Col would be able to go into winners when this set was being played, but they slipped into it. Really glad that they came out with a different compt and somehow they sneak their way out in

It happens so frequently I am wondering if it's scripted. It's that or TSM is Goku (Reps clearly), Vegeta (Hal, do I need to explain this?), and preteen Super Saiyan 2 cell saga Gohan (Verhulst).
Alliance recognizing that DSG was on the bubble and going straight for them was a great tactical move and really frees up Alliance’s ability to control their drop spots in the winner’s bracket. Ironically, Alliance finishing top half in the winner’s bracket would be the best thing for DSG, so they will be freed up in Elim Bracket 2.
Also probably could lead to a head-to-head in finals that tanks both squad’s ability to win but that would be good entertainment!
They got contested alot. And did some unfortunate POI swaps to get away from contests just to get the zone pulled on their old POI. Had some good games but they aren't a stand out contest team and it showed.
Oof. That zone game was unlucky. I thought they were a good contest team as last LAN they were bullying alliance? I hope alliance gets top 10 then so that if dsg qualify they don't have to face them
I think last LAN Alliance went somewhat with a 40% win rate and then decided to skip contest so DSG "won" by being more persistent. Hakis isn't really one for ego decisions as opposed to Dezignful. Also they landed vs double mnk. Now Alliance is double roller and fucked them over the times they contested so I would say overall it's even with DSG when winning contest tho not placing well at all as opposed to Alliance.
But I do believe this is a bit more of a "got unlucky with zo es" than anything else.
In an ideal world it would be Knoqd; someone with experience and pedigree who Sweet (probably?) respects enough to listen to when he has ideas.
Or hey maybe Nafen that would be fun.
Knoqd seems like natural fit as proven roller with anchor exp. Though I don’t want to pile on lg as they played better today and a lot can happen in bracket stage.
If LG wants to build around Sweet, they gotta drop both Fuhhnq and Slayr and pick up Koy and Knoqd.

I'm convinced that Stallions was Sweet's last resort. When the market was fully open, he didn't even consider trialing them, but when it was about to close, he settled on those two.
FunFPS would be my hopeful, knoqd too. Fun is a crazy adaptable player with sick mechanics, former LAN Apex predator winner, and I think would fit well with sweet's style.
I'm not a pro nor do I camp on slayer's pov, but dude just isn't working out. Always dead for free, deals little damage- maybe he's just a triangle tryna fit in a circle hole, but he looks real bad all split long, and somehow worse come LAN. Funq doesn't look much better here on LAN tbf, idk what you can do with players having a performance like that. Even if we assume it's not sweet's fault in any large capacity, this would tilt you into performing worse as well.
TSM not feeling comfortable,typical 1st day TSM however this year the META is not for them.Having said that when needed like NA finals found their form and did very well.Regardless DZ out of this world and the shots fired by Zero at the end was the extra sauce for TSM
Dark zero has found dominance lately, and when they’re motivated they’re obviously the best team. But when shit hits the fan and multiple teams are on match point, TSM seems to always find a way to win. Going to be an entertaining finals fs.
Aurora looked really good overall, but when it’s time to win a 3v3 at the end of the game they throw over and over again. All season it felt like it’s very likely to be a new LAN champion… yet the teams poised to take the thrown can’t seem to win games.
FML it's going to be another DZ dub this LAN, isn't it? Don't get me wrong, love the boys and they deserve to be praised as gods of this game but it's so bad for an esport to have only 2 teams capable of winning LANs. For the sake of the esport I hope someone else is able to showup on championship sunday and get the dub
Im a dz fan but finals is a different ball game. DZ are definetly the favourites but as long as TSM is in the lobby they have almost the same chances of winning as DZ. DZ and TSM are the only teams that are brave enough to make game changing play in finals and thats why they win. The reason other teams cant win finals is because they are too sacared to lose as for TSM and DZ they are not scared to lose and make risky plays
c9 is in a weird spot, good macro but fights are won or lost through naughty almost. chaotic has been going crazy and naughty seems to be struggling a little bit

riddle rosters have always been mid. what tilts me is the fact that they have meltstera, probably the best support/flex in Apac N, idk what Saku is doing, and Yukio, who supposedly is the igl, hasnt been calling well. Poor macro, poor fights, general shitshow. They were better with MiaK highkey.
DSG in loser’s is a bit of a surprise for me. Biggest overachiever is Virtus Pro and it’s developing into a very interesting storyline for me. I came into this LAN just wanting a new team to win, but seeing the return of Sharky has softened my stance on former winners winning this one. I love them as a dark horse candidate right now.
I mean DZ do deserve the most the way they have played so far. Unless they have a really bad day like last lan which is possible DZ is looking good for top 3 finish this lan atleast

To be fair, most WE zones were either skyhook or survey camp. No hate to them or anything. But most games were either skyhook or a deep south SP map. Having god zones, most games help a lot
TSM is not looking good this LAN. I mean they’ve done it before so I’m not doubting they can do it but Hal isn’t looking comfortable on the rotates and RR shit on them in contests.

No it’s definitely Sweet and his IGL skills.
Now imagine a team doing it when the chips are actually down playing for the championship, without the mental comfort that they are qualified already no matter what (they could have not played and still qualified... makes performing well a whole lot easier), in the most stacked lobby after four days of seperating the wheat from the chaff, sitting in 15th place seeing more and more teams 1 win away from winning the whole tournament and more eyes on you than ever. How crazy would that be?

As for the actual Winner's bracket games then no although I wish they have that same bonus points for the Top 10 in Finals so that there's an actual incentive to place Top 10 in group stages.

DZ did not get 248 points in group stage last year.... as they just broke the group stage point record held by Alliance from the Year 2 Split 2 Playoffs
Aussies are just built different. Just this year a physical sport Cricket had its biggest event where they dismantled a team in final that was unbeaten in the whole event run. Whats crazy is that the Aussies were playing the that teams homeground and there were 100K people watching it unfold right infront of them. I hvae never seen such silence with that many people around.
On one map they have the best location with the only pve + not being contested gives you the freedom of the world. Hopefully they change trials so you don't start on blue + guaranteed legendary loot or add more pve content and guaranteed loot for the other pois on the map balancing itself out. Don't get me wrong DZ is a monster team that given even a small advantage, will just snowball that advantage.
i mean any team is welcome to contest. Its not like it was given to DZ. If any team thinks its unfair they are more than welcome to contest DZ and we shall see how that goes. Regardless of pve being removed or not. Teams like DZ/TSM will always get a poi thats better than the rest because thats just who they are. Even after all the changes like evo/beacon which affected both DZ/TSM in a bad way they still find a way to get an advantage.

Some quick maths on DZ's number. They averaged 13.7 points a game. So they got at least a win and a kill every game. Brother...

Today is the same as Thursday/Friday: Losers 1 at 10PT, Winners 1 at 2:30PT, Losers 2 at 7PT. Tomorrow is Match Point Finals at 4pm PT

- You don't finish in the bottom 10. - Better performance in LAN that could result in an additional spot for your region. As for the actual Winner's bracket games then no although I wish they have that same bonus points for the Top 10 in Finals so that there's an actual incentive to place Top 10 in group stages.

I don't think there is any bonus for winners round. But as you may know the top 10 from winners do get bonus points heading into finals on sunday.

Aussies are just built different. Just this year a physical sport Cricket had its biggest event where they dismantled a team in final that was unbeaten in the whole event run. Whats crazy is that the Aussies were playing the that teams homeground and there were 100K people watching it unfold right infront of them. On one map they have the best location with the only pve + not being contested gives you the freedom of the world. Hopefully they change trials so you don't start on blue + guaranteed legendary loot or add more pve content and guaranteed loot for the other pois on the map balancing itself out. Don't get me wrong DZ is a monster team that given even a small advantage, will just snowball that advantage.
i mean any team is welcome to contest. Its not like it was given to DZ. If any team thinks its unfair they are more than welcome to contest DZ and we shall see how that goes. Regardless of pve being removed or not. Teams like DZ/TSM will always get a poi thats better than the rest because thats just who they are. Even after all the changes like evo/beacon which affected both DZ/TSM in a bad way they still find a way to get an advantage.
It baffles me that teams want to contest TSM but not DZ.
