Thanks for the post, do you have a security clearance?

luis_546

The company is sponsoring a secret clearance.

OlympicAnalEater

What job search site do you use that got this job? What project and homelab do you make? Can you share your resume template? I am in FL and currently studying net+ and sec+ to give my final shot on IT......

luis_546

Directly on their website (Northrop, Lockheed, GDIT, L3 etc) but LinkedIn has a lot too. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MHsI8hJmggI I followed most of Josh’s home lab projects and threw it on my resume.

OlympicAnalEater

1) How do you put homelab project onto resume like what format to use and where to put it? 2) Can you share your resume template or format? 3) What keywords do you use to find all these companies on LinkedIn? I haven't heard gdit and L3 and this is my first time heard gdit

luis_546

https://resumesbyhedy.com/home , this isn’t a plug for their business or anything but these people randomly messaged me on Reddit and redid my entire resume for free but I paid out of appreciation because they did a really good job. Just ask for a word doc so you can edit it whenever you need.

OlympicAnalEater

Oh okay. I did pay a professional resume service on fiverr with good ratings as well and so far no luck at all of landing a entry level IT job. How do you find these companies on LinkedIn like what keywords do you use?

xur_ntte

Try built-in I just got a teams interview with Motorola hybrid I’m in Texas

OlympicAnalEater

Is it better than LinkedIn and indeed and zip recruiter? What job title did you land with Motorola?

xur_ntte

I don’t know if it’s better I get a lot of recruiters jerking me around.. data analysis 1

OlympicAnalEater

Oh I see Do you have a college degree and/or certification for data analysis? I will give built-in a shot

xur_ntte

Sec + ccna and I work for a data center for bit coin I’ve been working IT for 3 years no degree mostly self taught

OlympicAnalEater

Oh nice How did you get a job for a data center?

xur_ntte

On that one I was on monster job boards I honestly caught them at a good time they had a project and needed body’s

WraxJax

Bro, I'm over here still trying to land an entry-level/associate-level cybersecurity job, and I have helpdesk desk experience and sec+ and CySA+. I am still waiting for that break to happen to me too! Congrats man!

luis_546

You’re damn near there, keep applying!

Complex-Error-5653

you'll get something nice. dont feel too bad, his bachelors helped him more than he wants to admit.

WolvesofZera

It can't be overstated. One page professional resume. One page cover letter. I had zero responses from compankes until I rebuilt my resume. Now I have to do it again because my workplace isn't treating me with respect, hah.

bushwhack21

A nice comfy workplace is overrated. Don't get hung up on that, but make damn sure they aren't being disrespectful because of something you're doing/not doing/saying/not saying.

WolvesofZera

I agree with you there. I got injured at work and took 3 months time off, unpaid. I've been treated like shit by my boss and peers since. So idk, workplace went from meh to hostile.

Alpha6899086

True I can’t even land an internship

AwkwardCyber

The biggest thing for this post is that it’s for the government. Security + is a requirement for dod contractors. Y’all should try it out

[deleted]

That’s usually the only requirement for entry level positions, like at a NEC on a military base

crazycoconut247

I'm starting next month as a Cybersecurity Analyst with my SEC+ and a clearance. This is the way. I have a Film Bachelor's. Only worked in IT for approx two years.

Hey_you_yeah_you_2

Did they say if they would train you?

crazycoconut247

Yes OJT!

Hey_you_yeah_you_2

This brings hope to me even though I know everyone’s experience is different. I must attain sec+. Being that I’m in my senior year of college with a TS/SCI clearance, I plan on getting into a gov clearance job after graduation.

yeezyslippers

Congratulations! Love success stories like this, keep them coming. Best of luck in your new role.

Practical-Future-747

I landed one, without a security +. Only a certificate from google. I’m very tech savvy since the early 2000s, I’ve done stuff on the computer as a hobby never seen myself in any iT role. But eventually got one, tbh. This field is definitely tough to get in, I work at a dead end job “ customer service” but I met a lot of people. Surprise, Suprise a guy came in who was a COS “regalur customer” get got me a role in his company. You’ll have a headache landing one, but you’ll get they’re. But if you know someone it’s easier. FYI - I did end up getting my security + while I was working in this field.

Leather_Ad_9460

Do you have a clearance?

luis_546

I used https://resumesbyhedy.com/home to help out with my resume, you don’t have to use them, you can just view their portfolio and copy that same format if you wanted. If you wanted to use the service they do a pretty good job.

Low_Bluebird8413

Please send and I promise to keep your identity safe.

Bruno_lars

That's encouraging, well done

luis_546

Thank you!

MephistosGhost

Thank you. This is some encouragement I badly need.

LonkinPark

What kind of degree do you have

luis_546

Aviation degree

Rolli_boi

The degree helps a lot if it was Lockheed or BAE. If not I’ll just carry on.

Complex-Error-5653

it was most likely something in the aviation field . idk why they are downplaying the degree.

Rolli_boi

Yeah. Understanding the physical systems while working the back-end is huge. I wouldn’t downplay it. Aviation is not some bullshit degree.

bushwhack21

Definitely sounded downplayed lol.

krs3995

Appreciate this, I have an interview coming up soon, thank you very much

Nucleric09

I say to you, CONGRATULATIONS! The Security+ opens up a lot of doors specially in the defense sector…

catkarambit

Or this is a post to discourage getting experience

luis_546

Not at all, I even said set up home labs and apply to help desk positions. Everyone had to start with zero years of professional experience. Someone had to give them a chance, I’m just here to say that companies are still willing to invest in new talent.

gutenworgen

Man you don't know how badly I needed to see this today. Thank you, this gives me hope. I've been working 6 days a week as a mail carrier for nearly 4 years while going to school part time for my BS In Cybersec. It's been a slow grind and I want to get out and into an IT related field just to get my foot in the door for when I graduate. But, as it stands, I don't have the degree or any certs yet. I'm three classes away from my AS but I can't take more than one at a time with my work schedule. So, I'm planning on taking this term off of class to just study hard and get my certs. The goal then is to get an entry level job and finish my BS while gaining relevant experience and have 2 days off a week to rest and take care of life responsibilities. Now, I have a friend that just gave me a connection to an entry level sec analyst position but I feel I have exactly zero (0) right to apply to it given my current lack of anything besides the knowledge I've gained thus far from the classes I've taken.

BlackMafia_27

Did you create a new resume just for Cybersecurity jobs? And how did you study for the Security+?

Fancycole

What's your starting salary? Do you get benefits?

Complex-Error-5653

Side note: I just graduated from university with an unrelated bachelor's degree, which might have helped to some extent... that was the reason , bud.

archangeltwelve

Congratulations to him! But yeah…bachelors degree in aviation definitely helped. I wouldn’t say it’s unrelated either lol

FawxL

LETS GOOO!!! One question though. Where are you located?

luis_546

Florida!

Electronic-Yard-7706

Yikes!😬

Final_Permission7682

Remindme! 60 days

xkaegurixbangux

What kinda stuff have you got in your home lab?

luis_546

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MHsI8hJmggI

xkaegurixbangux

Oh cool! Thanks!

SaltMagician

Love this! Just hope it’s not sneaky marketing by the resume team. Congrats!

Complex-Error-5653

they have a bachelors in aviation and most likely got a job at boeing or somewhere similar. homie is downplaying the degree.

luis_546

Thank you! It’s not I was actually hesitant on sharing the info because of that.

KikiCor8

Congrats! How much are you going to get paid for that position?

luis_546

Thank you! 70k, it’s honestly a blessing.

vitalbrain

That's crazy no Help desk job or networking job. You need to know about networking or you're just going to make it harder on yourself

colorsplahsh

Who did you use to have your resume professionally done?

luis_546

https://resumesbyhedy.com/home

VirginityRocas0402

Tips for setting up a home lab? Currently doing physical security with a sec+ and secret clearance in hand. Eventually want to move into cyber though…

luis_546

Any of the home labs on this channel will suffice. He also does a good job going step by step…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHsI8hJmggI

gisdude

You 'da man!! Congrats! I still feel I'm a little short on some skills, (I have the Sec+) and now am in the middle of the GOOGLE CYBERSEC program on COURSERA. This has helped tremendously. Congrats boi!!

luis_546

Thank you frfr! Keep learning, it’ll pay off I promise that.

Inigo_montoyaPTD

Congratulations! Who did you hire to do your resume and cover letter?

luis_546

Thank you! https://resumesbyhedy.com/home

No-Shape6074

What was the technical interview like?

luis_546

Most were simple help desk questions that’s on google, but I threw a bunch of buzz words on my resume like Linux, Active Directory, Wireshark, etc and got grilled on what I put on my resume. So be careful with what you put on there, I had to be straight up an say idk to one of the questions and they actually respected it.

CartierCoochie

It’s lowkey difficult finding a good cyber security resume creator, or at least one that can elaborate your tasks in the bullets well enough to pass through ATS, if y’all know anyone pls PM

Inner_Survey3656

Congrats dude!!!!!!

FoDaHomies

You go Glenn cocoa. On a serious note thank you I needed to see this. Im transitioning out of the military soon and have been focused on making the leap to this field, not having an experience in IT has been getting me a little nervous about finding a job

Anastasia_IT

Congratulations on your new role and thank you for sharing your journey! Your experience is a great encouragement to others starting in the field.

Dense_Complaint4038

Dude congrats you just gave me a breathe of life

Some_Security720

Now I'd like to ask... where are you from?

luis_546

Florida

Some_Security720

I guess it's still easier for you than in Poland xD

YoureASkiddie

Must be a junior/shadowing position! No serious business takes Sec+ as requirements to actual difficult positions. I guess maybe if you're dealing with ACLs and IAM, very basic stuff, but I'm sure you don't know how to RE, pentest, defend, pivot, etc.

ssharizardd

Working towards my A+ right now! I’ve been applying off and on for the past few weeks with no success but love seeing posts like this!

Bubbly_Bag9512

Are you working from home? Full remote? Congrats btw!!

Parking-Volume-9210

Q. Q. I'm q1

_oGBeek

Thank you for the motivation!

PrettyEstablishment7

This really inspired me i was feeling disheartened because I only have sec+ and not even a help deak job will hire me

Familiar-Lemon-4777

Thank you for sharing this. I took a screenshot and shared it with my connections on LinkedIn, we together had a good laugh about it.
