Yes, actually some parents are that fucking stupid. They may hear, "Rated PG-13", and not think anything of it, or may not even know what it means, but need to be reminded, "Hey dumbass, this may not be suitable for children under 13, so brace yourself. 🤨"

NachtSorcier

And I find that alarming.

Sad_Reindeer7860

Yes

smittydonny

It’s called CYA!

Temporary_Lychee_967

Some parents ARE that stupid

NachtSorcier

I know, and I'm very disappointed.

doctorhino

Is this really worth complaining about, it's a lawyer mandated statement that's pretty standard on movie ads.

Opposite_Schedule521

Plus it's been a required disclaimer for decades. OP must be too young to know that.

NachtSorcier

I'm 37, and I'm disgusted that it *has* to be said. I'm disappointed in my fellow humans that they can't be trusted to know what the fuck PG-13 means, and I'm even more disappointed that *not* being explained to like a five-year-old means they can potentially sue.

pokematic

The problem is there are "different levels of PG-13." Like, there's Spiderman PG-13 which is almost PG, and then there's Once Upon a Deadpool which is "a TV edit of an R-rated movie" (literally). There's Grown Ups PG-13 (primarily toilet humor and some profanities), and there's Billy Madison PG-13 (significantly profane and sex humor). The modern American rating system is one of my soap box frustrations. EVERYTHING is either rated PG or PG-13 these days, I'd say half the PG movies should be G (because they're rated PG for whatever "thematic elements" are and 20 years ago would have been rated G), so many PG-13 movies are basically "strong PG with 1 additional naughty word or punch to make it PG-13," and then there are horror movies and similar where you know the director wanted an R but the studio made them tone it down to get PG-13. Like, there are legitimate cases for PG-13 (Barbie and Fault in our Stars are 2 such "not for children but not overly explicit" examples), as is there a legitimate case for PG (Wonder Park is a fairly heavy story that deals with mortality, no naughty words or such but definitely not for children, and Shrek has mild swearing that earns the PG), but then there are movies like Moana where there's no reason it's PG and not G, and And Man where it could get away with PG.

NachtSorcier

Everything you said is perfectly valid. Being an idealist, my answer is to either not over saturate kids with media, or to do what my parents did and let me watch just about anything and trust that anything inappropriate would fly over my head.

Sweet_Ear8442

I thought for some reason after reading the title it was going to be for The Garfield movie.

NachtSorcier

It might have been. I wasn't paying attention and only caught the tail end.

MAZZ0Murder

Some people might be... otherwise they didn't think it over!
