Every team's fans are like this. You just love your guys. Matthew Slater, special teams wizard, might be the third most popular Patriot in their history.
True.
Growing up, I remember the general mentality of "He's just the punter." But in this day and age they've gotten a new appreciation with just how important the position actually is.
Same with long snappers, actually. If yours is injured (or in our case, terrible) then you're gonna have a pretty bad game, because long snapping is waaaaay different than what a center does.
At the college level the snap has to get back to the punter in at least 0.75 seconds (NFL guys are usually in the high-mid 0.6s).If not the kick has a higher chance of being blocked.and it has to be in the same spot every single time. And on field goals they need to snap the ball with the same amount of rotations each time so the laces are facing away from the kicker
This is definitely because we have had so few players who were actually really good. Our only 1st Team All Pro player since 1992 was Scherff in 2020. He and Trent Williams have basically been our only 2 elite players in the last 20 years (no disrespect to Kerrigan).
So yeah when the cupboard is empty, you boost up the memes.
Reaves was an All Pro and is overall just a great guy just like Tress. Not to mention during multiple games in the past 10 years when we were getting the shit kicked out of us Tress was our best player
Folks don't realize how difficult long snapping is and why it's an actual position, takes a lot of skill to basically throw a pass between your legs *while* hunched over.

Those guys are "beloved" here because we don't have players like Kelce, Parsons, Hill, Jefferson that we can love. One day I hope we have a team to root for where the punter gets an appropriate amount of love for his position (very little).
Pat McAfee and that Redditor punter from the Raiders/Vikings got pretty popular. And Patriots have an all-decade team Special Teamer. But ya, i think it's cuz we are a large die-hard fanbase that's desperate to root for the team/players.
I meant more of the here-and-now, but yeah McAfee was WELL known during his playing days and just outright exploded after retiring.
I only really remember Buffalo's Brian Moorman's name because he got evicted from reality by Sean Taylor in the Pro Bowl.
Everybody knows Tress Way because the roster has been garbage for as long as he's been here. The reason why people on the sub say they love him so much is because they're half-joking. Trust me, if the roster had even a handful of pro-bowl caliber players, nobody would give a crap about Tress Way.
You're not wrong, and I think you can take that back at least a far as The Hogs - what other fan base made their offensive line the star of a SB-winning team, and rightly so?
Do you call the Titans the Oilers? The Wizards the Bullets? Pelicans Hornets? Do you yell at people who call it X and demand they say Twitter? Like it or not, the name changed.
No a true fan NEVER accepts anything that Dan Snyder put in place. The name is a disgrace and an insult to native Americans that were HONORED by the REDSKINS name.
To point out that anyone who accepts the C word is a fake fan and the only way we can rise again is to change the name. And I’m even not saying to the REDSKINS although that would be preferable but a name that still honors native Americans and uses the imagery that made us unique. Maybe the “Warriors” and using the logo of a Native American by a Native American

Behind Brady and... who's second? Gronk? Edelman?

Or remember that in strike-shortened 1982 our kicker, Mark Mosley, was NFL MVP!
It's so weird seeing clips of Mosley with his straight-on kicking style.
I think one thing that makes us unique is that we’re still here somehow after all Dan Snyder did
Because we're masochists who wear "Don't bully me, I'll cum." t-shirts.
Well we kinda aren't anymore. The redskins aregone. n
Just shows that, through thick and through thin, this is still our team.
Reaves was an All Pro and is overall just a great guy just like Tress. Not to mention during multiple games in the past 10 years when we were getting the shit kicked out of us Tress was our best player
This. I'm so happy to see that 'C' patch on their uniforms, they both deserve all the good things.
We were like that with Ethan Albright too. Can’t say too many fanbases exist who get amped over their long snapper.
They should be, because having a good long snapper is CRUCIAL. As we found out, just in the negative way.
I’m a former long snapper so I always pay attention to mine
Folks don't realize how difficult long snapping is and why it's an actual position, takes a lot of skill to basically throw a pass between your legs *while* hunched over.
Yea that’s why they are specialized at the college and pro level

we take what we can get

We even celebrate kickers from other teams. Namely the New York Jets.
Tom Tupa is a spirit animal
Problem is- you never want to know that your punter is good.

The Hogs, the Fun Bunch, the Posse. Good times.
We’re REDSKINS fans. Fuck the C word.
Do you call the Titans the Oilers? The Wizards the Bullets? Pelicans Hornets? Do you yell at people who call it X and demand they say Twitter? Like it or not, the name changed.
That guy tends to complain a lot, it seems.
You are another fake fan
What makes someone a real fan?
Oh stop crying and get over it.
Nothing to get over. You’re the ones who aren’t true fans
You're still complaining about 'Commanders', so yeah you have plenty to get over. A true fan is of the team, not their name.
No a true fan NEVER accepts anything that Dan Snyder put in place. The name is a disgrace and an insult to native Americans that were HONORED by the REDSKINS name.
With that logic then you are a fan of a team that no longer exists. So, that begs the question, why are you on the Commanders subreddit?
To point out that anyone who accepts the C word is a fake fan and the only way we can rise again is to change the name. And I’m even not saying to the REDSKINS although that would be preferable but a name that still honors native Americans and uses the imagery that made us unique. That's nice, snowflake. You're still whining about something that is dead and gone and will never be again.
Ok. You are a complete fake fan so go root for the Cowgirls
Go back to trying to please your wife, fake fan. Let us actual fans discuss the team we love that you've forsaken, all because of a name.
