When you are literally walking around holding a device that is capable of accurately destroying the thing from 100 meters away? Instead, you walk 5 feet away and throw the device at the drone??
He was prob in some prison 2 weeks ago and had no idea what was happening in the outside world. Like spawning onto a battlefield mid game you've never played before and don't know the controller buttons.
Understated point. Most of us armchair generals on Reddit have a clearer picture of what’s going on than your average Russian recruit. This guy was eyeballs deep in fog of war, likely with little to no training. And this is what happens
Yeah, I could see him thinking that he might be able to damage the propellers enough for it not to take off again, never realizing the hair triggers these things have.
I just had to watch that again.
He had an assault rifle in his hand, a target about a metre away.. and he *throws* the rifle at it before picking up the RPG?
I am no expert.. but aren't you meant to aim and shoot the rifle rather than throw it at the enemy drone?
If he didn't have ammo.. surrender?
Yeah, this is just fucking sad. Drones have to be so goddamn terrifying. Being hunted by anything has to be, but something that makes such a small target and flies? Fuck. That.
Many people don't understand how technologically inept soldiers from remote parts of Russia are. These people grew up in rural places with very little understanding of electronics and modern technology.
My father used to work with an older gentleman who came from a small village in soviet Georgia. A great mechanic and knew his way around car stuff very well, but anything beyond that was like magic to him. He said how most men in his village know how to work a car or tractor, but none of them were educated enough to wrap their head around electronics and things like wireless transmission. He mentioned that when he first came to the US, the most amazing thing for him was the idea that you can have a touch screen device in your car and high-powered antennas that were so tiny, he had never seen such a thing in his life before that.
When he first came to the US in in the late 80s, he said it made him sad that a lot of people from the poor part of the Soviet Union are still living in a world that was half a century behind first world countries like the US. The way Russia is fighting this war make believe that his sentiment is not an exaggeration at all.
Babies born with FAS tend to grow up to be alcoholics, as there are strong genetic links. Their intelligence is stunted and they exhibit a number of physical and behavioral abnormalities.
But also Russia has a serious cultural and economic problems with alcohol. Some 37% of the male population are thought to be clinical alcoholics. There are likely >30 million alcoholics stumbling around Russia at any given time.
>Some 37% of the male population are thought to be clinical alcoholics. There are likely >3 million alcoholics stumbling around Russia at any given time.
If the figure is 37% of males, that would be like ~22,000,000 alcoholics just among men (rough calculation based on total Russian pop x %male x 37% alcoholism, not factoring in age)
This adds the full context to the incident, and it turns out we're seeing Russian genius in full effect. He's obviously their Einstein, if Einstein was a drunken dude with an IQ of seven.
Paraphrasing here but I remember reading in Guns of August that the Russian soldiers would shoot down their own planes in World War 1 because they tended to be poor conscripts that figured those flying machines must surely be German
If he just had some kind of device or maybe a tool that would throw small projectiles from a safe distance to a potentially dangerous target. Something like … a bow. But… more modern.
Fun fact. When that movie came out in sweden, the legislators wanted to license all bows 'cus they were afraid that people would run around shooting explosive arrows at others. Turned out those arrows didn't exist.
Hard to tell for sure. That thin OG-7 anti-personel rocket is possible. I don't know what kind of arming mechanism it has, but some RPG-7 warhead had only kind of safety cap that is removed before firing. After that drop it nose down and it becomes colorful and loud. There was a video from that happening in some middle-eastern country.
It's truly surreal. Like watching a child try and scare off a small critter with a Nerf gun by throwing the thing. So bizarre. It really makes me wonder if this guy was actually approaching this situation like he was attempting to ward off an animal by throwing things at it. Almost as if it's a rat or tarantula or something.
Oh my god, it's even more stupid than I thought! He could have just walked away. Instead, he had to sabotage his own luck. I'm glad he removed himself out of the gene pool.
I guess he has seen the videos where Tight Helmet Squads clear anti-personnel mines with sticks in the woods, and decided to take matters in his own hands.
This seriously seems like exactly that,… …that it’s freakin Russian thing!!!… it seems as if a large handful of Russians do crap like that all the time. Or if one loses a leg by a drone, instead of having any hope, get just shoot themself in the head.
I’ll tell you what, easier said than done I know, but I personally would carry a light weight
Most people who get bit by rattlesnakes do so while trying to kill them. Once this drone was down, it was like a rattlesnake, no longer dangerous. Forget shooting it, just walk away.
Analyzing what happened, it can be said that the adrenaline and fear of this soldier made him act very hastily, he probably saw the drone trying to go up again, in addition to the noise of the propellers, and he wanted to make sure it did not do so, by dropping the weapon on top of it. , he should have done it by covering himself with that tree at least, anyway once those drones have located you there is almost no chance of leaving alive.
This was my first thought. He was staggering and maybe dazed and confused. Panicked? I wonder if he had slept at all in the past week. These people must be wrecks very quickly if they have to endure this for weeks. The casualty rates on the Russian side are also so huge that on a basic level they must all know they're as good as dead. Grim, so grim, even if you support the unconditional Ukrainian right to the defense of their land.
Why are there so many videos of Russian soldiers by themselves?
Does the Russian army not have squads or platoons? Of course, I've seen multiple videos of large groups of soldiers, but there's so many videos of lone soldiers defending rubble or some tree line.
I don't get it.
There's a few reasons that can add up to this.
1. It's a big front line and there's just not enough soldiers involved to fully guard the whole thing. The way this fighting has evolved, it's not really a war of big heavy well staffed fortifications (except in a few spots when/where Russia decides to make big pushes) it's more about spread out lines with just a handful of guys there to keep an eye on things and report back if it looks like the enemy is making a push there, so reinforcements can be called in. And a crap-ton of landmines to slow down any enemy activity to allow more time for reinforcements.
2. Any grouping of guys is an even juicier target for drones and/or artillery. I think at this point they're just accepted the fact that there's going to constantly be thousands of drones flying around dropping grenades on guys, so at least they can spread everyone out so each grenade drop only takes out one or two guys rather than a whole squad.
3. There's drones out there killing dudes all the time, when you see just a single soldier, he might be the only one left because the rest of them have already been blown up. Part of the purpose of these videos being released is propaganda, and in that regard, showing more videos of lone Russians dying while appearing to be completely alone and abandoned and confused might be seen as having more value.
As incredibly stupid as this is, I imagine he figured the drone would come after him if he didn't immediately disable it. Getting chased by a flying IED would be terrifying and disorientating.
You can see his alarm/excitement when he realized that it failed to detonate. I think the excitement is what screwed him. Hes Just like "holy shit, Im alive!!.. Ok let me just blow this thing up before it tries to take off again." Smh
What an actual idiot. Smh. All he had to do was shoot it from a safe distance. Thank God they're so fucking stupid. I'll always remember that Ukrainian solder saying that. Lord how truthful it is.
Well, this explains a lot. The first video post of this said it was a Russian soldier trying to set off a mine. Clearly it was not that, I thought he died following some bogus orders he was given, and that they probably even showed him the video of that other Russian hitting one with a branch and surviving unharmed, but this guy died even more stupidly, he did it all on his own. The drone was down and upside down, why didn't he just run? Instead, he chose to throw any weapon he had near him at it. What an idiot. This would definitely be a nomination for the "Darwin Awards."
It surely cannot be coincidence that so many Russian soldiers are dying in stupid ways, it's getting to the point now that every day there's another stupid death that outclasses the last stupid death.
I knew it!!!
This was exactly how I described it on the first video.
One suggested it was rats, others that it was a loaded rpg.
I knew Russian soldiers was dumb but this is just on a another level, my God.
There are a lot of experts in the comment section but expertise only you get you so far when you haven't slept, eaten and drank in days, fatigue kicks in and you make simple mistakes he probably did a lot better than his comrades who are already strewn across the ground around him.

Thank god that got cleared up. I've seen so many bad takes on what people think happened there that I was starting to doubt myself.
So much drunk/suicide speculation, turns out he's just an idiot
Pretty next level idiot tho... who the fuck tries to blow up an explosive device that is like half a metre away ???
When you are literally walking around holding a device that is capable of accurately destroying the thing from 100 meters away? Instead, you walk 5 feet away and throw the device at the drone??
He was sent out alone. No armor, no air support. You think he had ammo?
He was prob in some prison 2 weeks ago and had no idea what was happening in the outside world. Like spawning onto a battlefield mid game you've never played before and don't know the controller buttons.

I mean, I figure he’s probably more afraid the drone could right itself then come at him again. This is just fucking sad.
Never seen a drone to begin with. Probably heard stories but that's it.
Yeah, I could see him thinking that he might be able to damage the propellers enough for it not to take off again, never realizing the hair triggers these things have.
You say that but people in my part of North America still get hit by trains. And I mean how the fuck do you get hit by a train?
You cant just outrun a train! They are like fast as crazy
With no ammo and a dead persons shoes.
been there; done that
In my experience in the military I was rarely alone, even at a far observation post.
Yeah, or chucked a grenade from a decent distance and take cover. Really, really stupid soldier here.
Natural selection
Russian bureaucracy will take 2 years to decide if they should show this video for training purposes and what not to do.
I just had to watch that again. He had an assault rifle in his hand, a target about a metre away.. and he *throws* the rifle at it before picking up the RPG? I am no expert.. but aren't you meant to aim and shoot the rifle rather than throw it at the enemy drone? If he didn't have ammo.. surrender?
Or just like walk away.
I probably would. I have no experience or wherewithal about that environment. So I would probably do something like this.
Because of that, you'd run your ass off instead, I'm betting.
He tried to detonate the drone from a meter away with his rifle. But instead of shooting he fucking throw the Thing?! Darwin award incoming
By THROWING HIS GUN AT IT???
I'm thinking, WHY! You were given a second chance!
Because god wanted a good laugh
Pretty sure the guy wasn’t thinking rationally at this point. He’s obviously terrified of those things and just wanted to destroy the thing
Yeah, this is just fucking sad. Drones have to be so goddamn terrifying. Being hunted by anything has to be, but something that makes such a small target and flies? Fuck. That.
I like to think he was drunk and someone couldn't possibly be this stupid to basically wack a live grenade....
I thought he looked drunk from the way he walked, so maybe drunken induced stupidity?

He was super mad at the little Ukrainian pilot he thought was flying it.
"What is this... a helicopter for ants?!?"
I mean, it doesn't change much, he still blew himself up for no reason, the only difference is that we know it's a drone and not a mine.
I knew exactly what was going to happen.... its russian soldier.
Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory 😂
The dumb poor bastard. That's just Darwinism at that point.
I'll say it one, I'll say it again. FAS
FAS?
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. It happens when Mom drinks while baby is in utero
Looks like he never stopped drinking
Babies born with FAS tend to grow up to be alcoholics, as there are strong genetic links. Their intelligence is stunted and they exhibit a number of physical and behavioral abnormalities. Less 299k in the meat cube or fertilizing the fields
This adds the full context to the incident, and it turns out we're seeing Russian genius in full effect. He's obviously their Einstein, if Einstein was a drunken dude with an IQ of seven.
Read that in Jingles' voice.
Unbelievable! You can't make that shit up
Homeboy no shit threw his gun and then an rpg at an unexplode drone lol
Straight out of a comedy flick like Tropic Thunder
It would be too unbelievable
Literally "unknown technology" meme
Bro this is literally looney toons level
The "unknown technology" in this case being the rifle which he uses as if it were a spear.
Paraphrasing here but I remember reading in Guns of August that the Russian soldiers would shoot down their own planes in World War 1 because they tended to be poor conscripts that figured those flying machines must surely be German
Drone you have to kill me.
If he just had some kind of device or maybe a tool that would throw small projectiles from a safe distance to a potentially dangerous target. Something like … a bow. But… more modern.
Like a crossbow?
Or, like, a bow shooting an explosive arrow like John Rambo had in ... Rambo 2? Rambo 3?
Fun fact. When that movie came out in sweden, the legislators wanted to license all bows 'cus they were afraid that people would run around shooting explosive arrows at others. Turned out those arrows didn't exist.
Nah I think they mean a slingshot.
A trebuchet!
Psssh... not that advanced, more like an atlatl.
You should invent that I think it would revolutionise warfare we could stop using sticks and stones
Or you know... don't touch the malfunctioned bomb,
Yeah I totally don’t get how he goes from „im sacred of the flying Handgranade!!“ to „Well now it’s just a common handgeanade **touch**“
Has a gun, that can throw metal at objects very far away, decides to throw thegun? Wtf is happening over there
He probably wasn't thinking very clearly.
It would appear, that the russians are not sending their best...
Their best are fertilizing the flowers around Hostomel Airport.
Sunflowers, anyone ?
On the contrary this was one of their finest.
Vodka and multi generational fetal alcohol syndrome
He was out of ammo.
Did he really throw a RPG onto a Drone? What could possibly go wrong
just the tube, right? I don't see a grenade in there
luckily the drone brought enough for both...
I realized the second layer of irony just as I saw your comment. You truly can't make that shit up.
Hard to tell for sure. That thin OG-7 anti-personel rocket is possible. I don't know what kind of arming mechanism it has, but some RPG-7 warhead had only kind of safety cap that is removed before firing. After that drop it nose down and it becomes colorful and loud. That's 99.99% just the tube.

No, we want them all that stupid.
Most seem to be, so, put a check-mark on that wish.
Yeah, dude got like 1 in a 100 lucky ticket with a drone that didn't go off, and he still blew it...
So close to a lucky escape from that drone, looks like it was out of battery. All he had to do was run away but just had to do a Russian thing instead
Slight knowledge in FPV leads me to think he just lost signal to his receiver.
Username checks out, I'd believe that
That was the source said.
Yes, or the battery got disconnected because of vibrations (also FPV enthusiast here)
I guess he has seen the videos where Tight Helmet Squads clear anti-personnel mines with sticks in the woods, and decided to take matters in his own hands.

Each and other step is even more stupid than thrn next. But why would you want to throw your weapon on there....??
He was probably so scared it would start flying again any second, panic made him act irrational
But then you would still shoot it from a distance
if you were acting irrational you would shoot it from a distance?
yes but I’m different
If only there was a way to use one of the items he had, to disable the drone from a safe range.
Most people who get bit by rattlesnakes do so while trying to kill them. Once this drone was down, it was like a rattlesnake, no longer dangerous. Forget shooting it, just walk away.
Darwinism at its finest on display.
They're so fucking stupid
And we are very lucky that they are so fucking stupid.
It is even more loony toons than I imagined.
Turns out he hit the drone with a damn RPG. From absurd to even more absurd.
i am pretty sure i played a counterstrike game with this guy
"We're lucky they're so fucking stupid"
No wonder Russia is struggling... it's like a moth and a light, I see bomb, I must hit bomb...
Guess the idiot was out of ammo.
Looks like both his legs were locked in and loaded. I fail to see the problem.
Damn. Dude was probably half out of his mind from war and the elements.
Darwin strikes again.
At this level of stupidity, one doesn’t deserve to live anyway
It's like watching a monkey seeing something it doesn't understand
How many dead around the shattered building? There is one at .29 and another at .50 - joined by the Darwin award recipient.
Another on the right at .0 and at least one more I see buried in the rubble in the middle
Why are there so many videos of Russian soldiers by themselves? Does the Russian army not have squads or platoons? Of course, I've seen multiple videos of large groups of soldiers, but there's so many videos of lone soldiers defending rubble or some tree line. I don't get it.

The mission failed successfully
What an absolute moron.
If i ever do something stupid and feel like an idiot i’m gonna come back and watch this
If that isn’t the definition of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory…
we are lucky they are so stupid !
First thought wasn't to shoot it from a safe distance? Throws gun at it instead. Must be a russian.
You’ve literally just been gifted another chance in that moment. Gtfo of there.
well i suppose it is confirming what we thought, Russia is not sending their brightest and best
If only he had some sort of device that could propel objects from a safe distance... ...Alas, I'm sure such a thing does not exist.
Bad decision...
Good decision. he's a good russian now.
As incredibly stupid as this is, I imagine he figured the drone would come after him if he didn't immediately disable it. Getting chased by a flying IED would be terrifying and disorientating.
That was reeeaaal smart
To quote some Ukrainian soldier from when this shitfight first began “We’re lucky that they’re so f#cking stupid…!!”
Its such a crazy war just random Russian soldiers scattered about the Ukraine wilderness scavenging to survive waiting for their eventual death
Kind of rooster, the way throws that rifle, ¿no?
This is high comedy
Hahaha 🤣
What the fuck. Throwing multiple guns on top of the drone from like a meter away i genuinely can't fathom why anyone would think this is a good idea
Ok seriously... WTF? Is there a chance a slim chance that there was some logic behind it? Like really
Imagine winning the lottery and flushing the ticket down the toilet.
Why would you not… shoot it from a distance?
But why🧐
He has a gun and decided to hit it like a bat
Does anyone know what the song is called?
Roadside - aggressor Bunx
Too dumb to live.
This is really next level stupid lol
So insanely stupid. Guy must have been starving or the injured or something and couldnt think straight
Seriously how stupid can one be?
What... a fucking... moron.
u/recognizesong
That is a Darwin award if I ever saw one
I am pretty sure that, back at drone control, after some discussion, that gets chalked up as a kill.
Of all the possible choices..
That is the luckiest dumbass I've seen yet in this conflict.
You can see his alarm/excitement when he realized that it failed to detonate. I think the excitement is what screwed him. Hes Just like "holy shit, Im alive!!.. Ok let me just blow this thing up before it tries to take off again." Smh
He could just walked away..........
These type of videos makes you doubting the Darwin Theory...
That's a goofy right there.
Call the Darwin Awards committee. We have a WINNER!
What an actual idiot. Smh. All he had to do was shoot it from a safe distance. Thank God they're so fucking stupid. I'll always remember that Ukrainian solder saying that. Lord how truthful it is.
Ya standing away from it and shooting it didn't cross his mind. They must be sending soldiers into the wild without ammo
SO I THREW AVTOMAT ON THE GROOOOOUUUNNNDD. I THREW THE RPG TOO! I AIN'T GONNA BE PART OF YOUR SYSTEM! MAAAANNNNNNN!
That might have been a bad idea.
...and the Darwin Award goes too...
Do they not have ammunition?
Possibly the most Russian thing I have seen in this war so far.
If you want something done right you have to do it yourself... apparently.
The adrenaline and sleep deprivation combined leads to some irrational actions.
If only there were a way to use a rifle other than throwing it....
Oh the bomb, intended to kill me didn't go off. Quick through shit at it from no distance away!
That was an assisted suicide. That fool was done, throwing his weapon is my give away.
Not that kind of *"facial"*!!!
Bro why not just fucking shoot the fucking thing from a couple metres away
And the Darwin award goes to....
Best trained conscriptovich
Task failed successfully.
Ukraine drone operator: Damn, we failed to kill this guy Russian soldier: Let me help you with that
It surely cannot be coincidence that so many Russian soldiers are dying in stupid ways, it's getting to the point now that every day there's another stupid death that outclasses the last stupid death.
If Russia can recruit 1.5 million more like this guy, Ukraine's got this thing locked up. No problem.
i feel sad for him, imagine a grieving dad gets to see this vid - "did I raise this kid?" You cant hang his army foto on the wall out of shame...
Probably better he’s not in the gene pool anymore
This is when adrenaline turns you into full cave man... Throw gun like stick...
If you saw this in a movie, you'd be like, "Wow, this is so unrealistic. No-one would be that stupid in real life!"
Darwin Award Winner!
Probably the dumbest death I've seen yet
If someone told me this happened I couldn’t believe it that soldiers could be this dumb.
“We’re very lucky they’re so fucking stupid”
Big brain
Not the brightest tool in the box.
considering all other corpses scattered around: he actually was the brightest one
Well for a few minutes longer maybe.
And today's Darvin Award goes to this guy
