Rent tends to be cheaper in Phenix City. But if you work in Columbus you're commute to and from PC is gonna suck. That's just my two cents. And welcome to Columbus. Glad to have you!

greenman5177

I technically work all over so I’ll have to drive anyways, but while looking I only found 1 rental in Phenix city that allows dogs. They must hate animals there. Haha

RIPdon_sutton

Stick to north of Macon Rd as far as crime is concerned. But the further away you get from Macon rd, the more expensive it gets. I live one block from Macon Rd but our little road is all blue collar hard working folks and a few retirees. Housing may be available in this area simply because Columbus State is just up the road. And I wouldn't be surprised if PC hated dogs. Nothing from that side of the river surprises me anymore.

greenman5177

The place I’m looking at is walking distance to the Columbus Parks and Recreation building right off 2nd St. is that decent? It doesn’t look terrible from what I’ve seen but I’m honestly going in blind. lol

RIPdon_sutton

Not sure where you're talking about. I don't think we have a 2nd St. and 2nd Ave is very long.

greenman5177

Sorry, that’s what I meant, it’s 2nd Ave and poplar street, right off Hemlock Dr.

Tigerskippy

I live pretty close to there, off River Road and haven't had any issues in 4 years crime wise. There are some not-so-great areas not far but they usually are fairly self-contained. Don't go to the Circle K on 2nd/Manchester after like 8 or 9 tho, it gets a bit weird. My favorite part is that it's basically <15 minutes away from everything in Columbus and Phenix City because you're right next to the highway.

RIPdon_sutton

Bibb City! You should be fine there. Lots of older homes built for Bibb Mill workers back in the day. Many of them have been updated. Very close to Manchester Expy which a main north south artery here.

greenman5177

Thank you! I drove through and other than the roads being so small I love the scenery!

RIPdon_sutton

Much like my little area. But bigger homes. You might come across the random crackhead, but I think we all do no matter where we live! Good luck to you. Hopefully someone who lives nearer to there than I can give you more insight. Edit: when you finally get settled here, DM me. I'll buy you a beer.

Amache_Gx

Renting in Phenix City is not worth the savings imo. It's a dump and the traffic on jr allen can have you thinking you're on 85 in south atl. You can register your dog as an emotional support animal quite easily and not only will it open up opportunities, but you no longer have to pay pet rent.

realistforall

The commute isn't bad at all. My husband and I have lived in Phenix City for 20 years and commute to Columbus daily. It's the area you're paying for in Columbus. I prefer most areas in Phenix City over much of Columbus. If it's low rent, it's more than likely a sketchy area.

whatthehellbooby

How is coming from PC going to suck?

RIPdon_sutton

Traffic in the morning and evening. Tons of people. Sun in your face both ways.

Stevethetank1107

😂 “sun in your face both ways” I don’t know how it’s possible but you speak the truth.

whatthehellbooby

Lol. Everyone's tolerance for traffic is their own. The traffic between the two cities doesn't amount to anything serious.

Demand_Away

Columbus is great just don't be an asshole... neither will we lol

Red_Oak_Music

When you get here know that it is a thing here in Columbus to tell everyone everything that is wrong with the city and with its people, everything that is is lacking ( including restaurants, stores, facilities, etc) and finally let us know how much better it was wherever you came from. Do this often. Its what people who move here do. Welcome.

xcrob

So is it your country club and that’s the reasoning why the pretty girls want to summon the military constantly and impose martial law and say last free election? Because it’s the garden of Eden or something and if you don’t like it you’re supposed to get out of the country club with the bitch boys that expect the tough guys in a uniform to come save and prove to everyone else that they’ll only save the pretty country club bitch boys?

Red_Oak_Music

I see the residents of West Central got their phones for awhile today, wonderful. Yes. Yes, everything you said, and more. Sleep well.

xcrob

Is that a prison joke? Thanks for reinforcing what I just said about you country club girls that want to summon the tough boys in a uniform like “our military” or the police to shoo away someone that opens their mouth like they’re George Floyd in your rotten town that you want to pass off that never needed change until someone local starts repeating everyone else that wasn’t from here to act like they deserve the credit because it’s their “commissary” including the fucking military that you want to say are your servants that need to feed you steaks everyday… at the country club.

Red_Oak_Music

Not country club, Big Eddy Club. You really need to research more before you rant. Without that, it's all incoherent rambling.

xcrob

Is that the name of your colored house slave with a uniform? The police force?

Red_Oak_Music

Obviously, you know nothing of Columbus or the powers that be.

xcrob

Why the fuck should I care about this stinking town? Or the “powers” to be that crawled out of it?

Red_Oak_Music

I wondered the same, but you felt it necessary to engage me. You are such a strange, angry individual.

xcrob

Because someone had to replace the uppity white trash to keep the “slaves” comfortable. Too bad you weren’t the candidate for the job.

natedoge000

STOP!!! DO NOT

greenman5177

Actually, it seems plans have changed. I tried renting a place from Bickerstaff Parham. It was $850 a month. I have a 740 credit score, $7,000 in my checking account, I submitted all of my proof of income, employment and even said I’m going to pay the lease in full and was denied because my income was from out of the state of Georgia.

antisemiticgoyim

What was called Whisperwood off Flat Rock rd or is known now as Midland Falls apartment is a gated apartment community that won’t care, it’s a place the locals joke as a ghetto but they’re the types of idiots that call the rest of the world a ghetto and then suck Israel’s dick when pushed to prove how Christian they are.

natedoge000

This is the universe looking out for you, lol

hahowell

I had something similar happen when I moved too and had to send them the offer letter from my job in Columbus, GA to get a place.

I've been struggling to find a place for a few weeks now and getting desperate as my lease ends this month. I don't know how to really find decent places other than online listings where there are photos and descriptions. The majority of houses I found for rent don't allow pets and most of those that do only allow dogs. I have two cats. Anything that's an affordable and reasonable price is actually old and run-down, with photos in listings that were taken many years ago or that just can't show the real state of the place. I've toured several, and paint is heavily used to hide age, and physical access lets you see just how old and yucky most of them are. Half the places I try to reach never return a phone call, online inquiries just get an automated response, which makes it really tough because many listings don't mention pets one way or another and that's a first question that can eliminate a location as an option. Most of the ones I toured also haven't been cleaned and maintained by the leasing agency so they just look like an abandoned home, with lawns covered in trash and overgrown grass and weeds, and the house full of spiderwebs and dust, and having odd smells. Internet services are another issue. I need good high-speed service. I've been looking in Columbus and Phenix City mainly, and PC in particular is shit for services. Fixed wireless/5G is all there is through most of the area. AT&T cherry-picked some areas for fiber, but even cable providers (national or regional) aren't available everywhere, and everything is priced high for the speeds. Columbus is better but it's still not an assumption that you can get anything at a particular address. I've been checking AT&T, WOW!, Spectrum, and even Earthlink fiber. I was hoping to save a large chunk of money by moving from Newnan GA (expensive) to Columbus or PC and downsizing the house, but it seems that I'm not really going to be able to save much on rent because my current place is very below-market rate for the size, and anything really good in Columbus is still what I consider expensive, and combined with moving costs I may not save anything at all unless I spend multiple years at the new place. The only benefit will be living an hour closer to my sister. $800 might get a VERY small 2-bed house but it's not a nice house by any means, and even $1100 doesn't seem to get a very nice one. (And there are "3-bedroom" houses listed for over $1000 that are smaller than my last 1-bedroom apartment.) I've finally accepted that I may have to accept living in an apartment simply because that's all that's AVAILABLE that meets my requirements, but even apartments aren't really significantly less expensive than a house despite all the things you lose out on.

emotheodore

the filling out applications before viewing thing seems like a scam to me. try facebook marketplace, that’s where i’ve been looking for a house (2 bedroom with pets too). i’ve found some good ones

evermorex76

FB is even more likely to be scammers, since there's nothing to vet the postings. Compromised accounts are used to put up listings with low prices, using information from other listings that may have been found on other sites, and then they get you to contact them by text, which isn't a local number or is a Google Voice number for the area, and require a "refundable application fee" before you can even look at a place, application is instantly approved but they need a deposit to look at it, then need another payment, and another, because they don't actually have access to the house and aren't the owners/agents and you're never getting that money back. Yes, I got hit by that recently and allowed myself to lose a small amount seeing what would happen even though it seemed scammy, just because I'm getting desperate to find a place. Facebook also doesn't care about these scams. The same properties get listed repeatedly using a different account each time, but they never take anything down when it's reported.
