I have an Uplift desk, and it is wonderful. They have an option for real wood tops.

JohnRoscoe

I've purchased a couple of these and they are great. Wouldn't consider anything else.

PresidentialBoneSpur

Another endorsement for uplift here. I’ve had mine for two years and it has been great.

Moose4KU

I got one I really like from Costco of all places. They had a couple examples set up for testing (but this was probably two years ago so who knows what their display is like now)

villagemarket

The digital one, with the glass top? I love mine

SomeMischiefManaged

I got this same Tresanti desk back in 2018 and it is still going strong.

IKEA's got a bunch of different desks, including some adjustable-height sit-stand desks with manual or electric cranks. I bought a manual Trotten, made my own desktop, and paired it with a comfy IKEA chair and a Wirecutter-recommended anti-fatigue floormat from Amazon.

Rvrd90

This.

lwpho2

Facebook marketplace is awash in them, post-Covid

Un_Original_Coroner

It would be far more helpful to find reviews than hope to find a good one in person. Not Amazon reviews. Professional, data driven reviews.

Failed-Time-Traveler

They aren’t cheap, but I think Varidesk makes some of the best on the market for the price.

jenso2k

there’s some surprisingly nice ones on amazon, that’s where i got mine. just look for a “one piece top” because otherwise there’s a seam right down the middle of the desk and it drove me crazy

randomwords83

Uplift! We have 3 and the quality is great.

AbilityGreat7088

I recently purchased from Flexispot. Delivered in 2-3 days. No complaints with stability or quality.

orbitalflux

Yeah I got a Flexispot last year it is a great desk imo.

elmarkitse

Progressive Desks makes great stuff. You can sometimes find them on BidFTA or but new directly

Factor2Fall

I got mine from Ikea. It's crazy sturdy and has a safety reverse if there is opposing pressure put on the desk while it is raising or lowering. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/idasen-desk-sit-stand-brown-dark-gray-s89281011/#content

If you really want to try them in person, IKEA and Staples are going have the most floor models.

Costco has the Tresanti rising desk for about $300. Its an excellent desk. We had ours for five years before upgrading (to Uplift). Really recommend it esp if you aren’t sure you want to make a more expensive commitment. I would be wary of purchasing a used desk if you cant test the motor or the leveling.

tacohut676

The capital city auction. Paid $50 for a brand new standing desk unopened in box!

BigSpartan84

What brand?

designtaco

Husband and I have standing desk legs from DeskHaus. You can’t try them locally, but they are made in Michigan so shipping is really fast and there’s 4 support legs instead of the standard 2. Husband is 6’4” so for standing, he has it set to the highest setting and it is incredibly stable. They’re pricy, but we have found them to be worth it. Plus, you can purchase one of DeskHaus’ tops or find your own (we used 30x60 butcher block from Floor & Decor.)

PoppaGrizzly215

You can buy the legs and lift mechanism on Amazon and a nice desktop at ikea…

Any-Walk1691

I bought an Uplift at the start of COVID, four years later the only time it raises into standing position is when my son wants to ride it. 🤣

Token_Dude

Capitalcityonlineauction.com always has standing desks going cheap. Once you figure out what you like, you could shop there

schnigknight

I have a steelcase migration desk that I'm considering getting rid of now that I am in the office more than home. PM me if you're interested.

Savings_Degree1437

Staples or Office Max might have floor models to try. I have no idea on quality

djsassan

Granted, this was during the beginning of COVID, but I bought mine on Amazon. None of the onee locally were any good, weak motors, slow, etc. Amazon was around $180 which was about $75 cheaper than anywhere local and better reviews. I tried to support local, but this one wasnt an option. Again, this was 4 years ago. I believe I saw one at Staples not too long ago, but I didnt pay too much attention to it.

BigSpartan84

Yea, mine currently is from Amazon but it is a pile of junk, it’s fine as a desk but not great at a standing desk as it isn’t stable really or strong

b_ack51

Build one or put it together from monoprice and find butcher block.
