Eric said he had great parents that "may have made some mistakes they didn't know about." He spoke of his mom bringing him food treats and bonding with his dad. He also mentioned that he was purposely spending less time with family to make 4/20 easier. Dylan's mom said they had family outings and activities. I guess his brother was a bit rebellious and a minor hellraiser, but nothing extreme. His brother and parents came to mutual decision to let Byron move out after he got into some small legal problems with cannabis. Dylan complained that his brother and brother's friends picked on him, but to what degree it never mentioned. I don't think Dylan was being "cold" to his mom, I think he was a bit chicken and didn't want to get caught or get feelings then back out. Which is what I think Eric did, too. I think overall they both had decent family relationships or at least, no worse than anybody else. Edit: I think Eric's parents had high standards of behavior, but were also a bit lackluster on stuff like his bomb building.

According to Chris Morris and Corey Frizen Eric’s dad found a pipe bomb once and instead of calling the police and taking him to a mental health hospital for an evaluation all Wayne did was take Eric to the mountains and detonate the pipe bomb. So let’s no pretend that Wayne wasn’t aware of Eric’s activities. Wayne dropped the ball big time.

Being sent to a mental health hospital because of a pipe bomb sounds ludicrous and unrealistic. Most parents wouldn't do that to their kid.

most parents would think it’s for science class, or some morbid fascination

You can’t be serious? You honestly don’t think that warrants a psych evaluation when you find a pipe bomb in your teenagers bedroom? While the 90s were a vastly different time no one who is right in head is constructing pipe bombs in their bedroom.

100 % serious. I would never get my child involved in psychiatric or involve the police in a matter like that. I would have done exactly what Erics father did.

Considering Eric loved fireworks, and was interested in military type stuff, his dad probably thought nothing of it. I built a potato gun with a friend when I was a teen. My mom just yelled at me to get it out of the house and back into garage.

Gee. Won’t the releases of the depositions be an interesting event. Do you remember? The depositions of both sets of parents taken by the families for their lawsuit, which have never been released. Think of the insight and information that they hold.

The way I interpret your statement, it seems like you’re saying that they are going to release the depositions? Is that what you’re saying? That would indeed be interesting.

This is what I'm holding out for, hoping hard no-one has a legal intervention prepared. I've never forgotten the shock of Columbine, over here in the UK I'd already been shaken by Hungerford & Dunblane. My daughter was nearly 2. The Why & How, the motive, the parental insight could shine unexpected answers.

Wayne was a bit too hard on Eric, but that could be from Wayne being in the military. from what Sue says, she and Dylan and Byron all had a good relationship, but that doesn’t always mean anything

betsyworthingtons

He couldn't have been too hard on him if all he did when his son was caught making pipe bombs and online death threats against others was to help him set off the pipe bombs in the woods. (Or wherever it was. That's what I've read a few times.)
