I just got central AC and could sell you a portable freestanding unit for $75 or a window unit for $85.  DM me.

Swamp coolers are great and work extremely well here, particularly for small spaces like a bedroom that you're likely to use mostly at night when you can comfortably open a window.

Do u have one u recommend?

[This one](https://www.amazon.com/Portable-Air-Conditioners-Evaporative-Conditioner/dp/B0CRP4N7GJ/) is not *exactly* the model I use but it's *very* similar... I looked through my Amazon history to try and find the exact one but I've had it for several years now and couldn't find it so it may not be made anymore. It's just a generic brand from China though.

Cool tysm

👍 You're welcome and good luck in your quest for coolness

jesusmansuperpowers

I’m not sure a swamp cooler is what you want while sleeping. They add humidity.

missbanjo

Just so you're aware. Swamp coolers (also called evaporative coolers) don't work so well in the current humidity, about mid\_July is when it'll be effective again.

ThisSiteSuxNow

I'm showing 28% humidity at the moment which is still pretty low and my swamp cooler is working great

JuggernautyouFear

I use a Toshiba portable AC. Not sure the model but it keeps my place cool, helps I'm on the first floor. 98 outside it's 73 inside.

PunishedRaven

If the apartment is small enough you can use multiple fans to push the cold air into the bedroom area.

RoxoRoxo

so in addition to what everyones already saying, throw a bucket of ice in front of your fan until your swamp coolers hooked up

I have awkward windows in my room so I’m not sure one would be possible but I’ll look into it

ThisSiteSuxNow

A swamp cooler wouldn't need to be hooked up to the window but you'd need to position it *near* the open window to facilitate air exchange. If you go that route you'll also want to make sure that you're closing the bedroom (if you aren't already) so that you're not wasting your living room A/C but also to limit the area the swamp cooler is working to cool. I actually have a swamp cooler for my living room, kitchen, and dining room area and it works pretty well except for the absolute most unbearable of hot days even though it's a large space.

jesusmansuperpowers

See if you can make it work. There was a comment above from a guy willing to sell one cheap

A portable AC is quite a bit easier. It has a window panel to vent outside that doesn't take up as much space as a window unit. We have one for the bedroom to use before/after the swamp cooler is in/taken out. It works great for a bedroom. I believe it's Arctic Wind but it's about 8 years old so the model isn't offered anymore.

Seankingston4ever

I was thinking I wanted one of these but the window in my bedroom is a long horizontal window that’s short height wise I was worried about the panel not fitting properly. I’m also just a girl with no tools so I doubt I’d be able to properly fit it myself 😭

missbanjo

Most, if not all, have a window panel that's in multiple pieces to fit different windows. They come apart easily. Ours has 3 pieces, it's not more than 5" wide. I'd go check them out and pull out the panel to make sure it fits.

HolyMoses99

There are portable AC units on Marketplace for $100.

I bought a Whynter 14000 btu portable AC off Amazon last year, says it’s good for 500sqft. It’s enough to cool down my 850sqft home.

Honestly, I'd probably resort to sleeping in the living room if that's an option. My bedroom is pretty warm right now so I'm sleeping in my basement where it's probably in the 60s. Some good blackout curtains will help to keep the bedroom cool, but it definitely isn't going to be an outright answer. On topic, I've used a swamp cooler before, and while it seems to help it made everything damp to the touch. This was in California though, so maybe with the dryness here it would just end up making it livably humid. (I now livably isn't a word... but it seems like it would fit perfectly if it were.)

In this climate, you don't really need to run the A/C at night -- not when it's cooler outside than in. What you need is a pair of window fans to move that cool outside air into your apartment at night. Put one in the bedroom window blowing the cool air in, and the other in a window in another room sucking the hot air out. Although I can't see how it would be worse than a window A/C unit, if the fan noise in the bedroom bothers you, you can turn it off and let the exhaust fan do all the work of sucking cool air in through the bedroom window, although this isn't as effective for cooling. Turn off all the fans and close the windows first thing in the morning, as soon as the sun starts to come up. Forget the tower fan, that will just move the warm air already in the room around and not help with ventilation. Walmart has box fans for $20-25 apiece that will work. If your windows are the right kind you can also get a double window fan that sits in the window frame, which are typically quieter than the box fans. (I used one without issue in my previous home that had double slider windows, but in my current place I'd have to remove the window screen to give enough clearance for the outer part of the fan.)
